I work for an ambulance service. I am training as an emt. I do alot of inter-facilaty transfers. I do like 6 or 7 a day. Work 12 hour shifts. I love it. Can't wait for the upgrade. Best choice ever

Being an EMT is pretty much dialysis transfers. Hospital to nursing home transfers. Dr appointments. An occasional on scene MVA which most likely end up on a refusal. Don’t have high expectations.
I start next week, pretty excited especially after watching this! I'm debating between pursuing a career in the fire service or sticking to the premed route

@@ahmadjrmuhammad5277 Quite a bit. We are trained in CPR obviously, but there is much more and it varies by state. In my state we are trained to give EpiPens, Inhalers, O2, nitroglycerin, basic pain relief and Benadryl. We are taught to assist in a birth, how to interact with other first responders basic human anatomy. How the EMS system works. Cardiology and Airway basics. Obviously how to load a patient when they need restrained how to restrain them ect.. How to deal with terrorist attacks, car accidents, falls and how to counsel someone who has just lost a loved one. These are a few things we learned. Don't be overwhelmed though slow and steady and its all pretty understandable

Hi! I'm not sure what brand my boots were but they were like $40 on Amazon and they worked great! The pants were provided by AMR and as far as the pants I bought when I was going to EMT school and had to wear that type of pants.. I bought Under Armour pants and liked them a lot!

You don't have to email hospitals you can go to a community college and see if they have emt class and start doing that you might need a certificate tho to start some places require that you have one for probably highschool maybe

@DylanJ and obviously it’s personal opinion but not all AMR jobs are created equal. I have no doubt that some are really crappy because not all of them have a union. In my county we have a union so it’s not a terrible place to work unless you just despise the idea of staying in the rig for posting lol

Where I am most if not all medic schools require at least a year of experience as an EMT to even get looked at for medic school. And just talking like you are makes you sound unintelligent and like you think you're better than everyone. People use private EMS as a stepping stone into the service. Good for you you never had to go through the 1-year experience to become a medic kudos to you, but others have to do it. and private EMS for some is the only way.
I'm a pre med right now and just started working for an IFT ambulance company. Are there any benefits to doing 911 vs IFT? Also, will med schools/PA schools care that you did IFT or 911?
Hi. How do you go about registering for an EMT program? Does NREMT accept virtual/hybrid courses? Due to COVID-19, that is the only available option in my area.
I just looked for EMT schools for my area. As far as whether you can take the NREMT, I would ask the school about that. They should know and give you the best answer!
As far as I know, you don’t need a driver’s license to go to EMT school and get your NREMT certification, but you definitely need it to get hired and actually start working as an EMT

You don’t have to work as an EMT first, just depends on the person when/if they get their clinical experience
