    Just to help you clear it up - Königsmarck was the Swedish general besieging Prague even though he knew the peace treaty to end the war was being discussed. Basically tried to take the city so Sweden could get a better deal at the negotiating table.

    Today Bohemia is pretty much the Czech Republic, one of my Great Grandfathers came from there when it was still Bohemia.

    So, to clarify: the 30 Years War was messy to say the least, alliances were uneasy and armies changed sides multiple times, or attacked allied cities for ressources. This is the case for Prague, a protestant city (on the same side as Sweden) in the end of the war (years after Gustavus Adolphus death - Carolus Rex came a century later, it's kinda confusing because of the order of the tracks). No battles were fought anymore yet Königsmarck, commander of the Swedes, wanted to take Prague for Sweden to get better negotiations even though Prague was protestant like them, but the citizens of Prague managed to hold the city and defeat the Swedes on the Carl's Bridge (Karluv Most). So yeah, this song paints the Swedes as criminals and the citizens of Prague as heroes, unlike all other songs of the album.
    Extra fact: the Swedes managed to loot a lion from the Zoo, which they took to Sweden. The lion survived the journey and lived the rest of its life in Sweden.

    As a Bohemian I find this whole swedish plundering the most sad part of the war. Swedes were protestans fighting the catholics. Bohemians were also protestants but Prague was conquered by austrians (catholic) so they were forced to fight each other. So Swedes were plundering Bohemia, Prague and killing our citizens even though we started the war for the cause Swedes were fighting for. In ideal world we would be allies in this war.

      @cloudedreactions2578  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, it's insane to think that allies would turn on each other for resources etc. Just goes to show how far the world has come? I'm glad Sabaton did not shy away from telling this amazing tale!

      @@cloudedreactions2578 Agree. Also Swedes were victims of it all as well. As you heard in En livstig I krig. Anyway thanks to them we in Bohemia have a curiously high level of Nordic genes. Guess lots of them from rape but I heard many stories of Swedish soldiers just deciding to stay. So every evil is good for something in retrospective.

    To put it simply, Kingdom of Bohemia found in XII century was a Czech country made of land of modern Czechia and Silesia (South-West region of Poland), that became part of o Holy Roman Empire as an Elector and one of the 3 most powerfull countries in the Empire. But at a time of 30 Years War it was already ruled by Austrian house von Habsburg that also was at a time ruling all of the Empire (In theory because Emperor had very little power over countries in HRE).

    Bohemia is a historical landscape and former kingdom, now in the western Czech Republic. The capital of Bohemia, as well as of the Czech Republic, is Prague. Bohemia became a kingdom in 1198 and was part of the German-Roman Empire and later the Habsburg Empire.

      Indeed, even the translation is softening it, "to the bone" should be "to the (bone)marrow" and "Fire & death" ought to be "arson & murder", properly translated.
