🫀Myocardial Infarction “Heart Attack”🫀
👉What is a Myocardial Infarction? An MI is due to a BLOCKAGE of blood flow to the myocardial tissue of the heart muscle resulting in tissue death (necrosis).
⚠️NCLEX Tip: The main cause is due to Atherosclerosis. This is a buildup of plaques (fat, cholesterol) in the artery walls blocking blood flow.
🔥Hack for Symptoms: My heart ACHES
A: Anxiety
C: Chest Pain
H: Hypertension
E: Elevated HR
S: Sweating/Shortness of Breath
🔥Treatment: MONA
M: Morphine
O: Oxygen for O2 sats less than 90, respiratory distress, or hypoxemia
N: Nitro
A: Anticoagulants, Aspirin, Alteplase
The correct sequence in clinical guidelines is ONAM, but MONA is just easier to memorize.
🚨Note: The vitals on a SIM MANNEQUIN do not always accurately demonstrate clinical sx (ex vitals) since each pt can present differently.
