I think a good rule of thumb is this: We all know we got the text. It's not like we don't have have our phones on us 24/7. With that said, you must have been doing something and/or in the process of doing something at the moment the text came in. In that case, read the text, smile, then go back to what you were doing. Only when there's finally a legitimate break in the action of your day should you text back.
Example: You're working out at the gym and get a text. You could stop your workout and text back immediately . You could wait until you get a rest break in your workout then text back Or you could just go about your workout, then go get a smoothie afterwards, run a few errands, etc... (because those were all things on your planned list of things to do for the day). Only when you get home after your already planned day and have some free-time in which you would just tune into some Netflix should you text back since you don't have anything else planned and it's your downtime. And you can actually get away with saying you had a busy day! And who knows, you may have totally forgotten about the text and not get to it until the next day.
I know, sounds ridiculously elementary when it's broken down like that, but some of us are really that dense! It also gives you an inside view of what the other-side is probably doing as well. They are probably following the exact same protocol while the entire time you're mentally simping and wondering why she isn't responding. She's literally doing exactly what you're "supposed" to be doing.
Eventually, the two of you may start cutting down the time between texts and if she starts to respond quicker or even immediately, then you're on the right track. At that point, match her interest level.
