funny enough in mario kart speedruns that is a difference. intended cuts are not "shortcuts" for some records which require no shortcuts (basically no unintended skips)
@@Zalied they are called skips in mario kart though. But yeah, terminology from one game to another doesn't translate very well.
@@Karlyr_ true but the main point is that things like the jump through the cave in mario kart 64 is clearly a shortcut but is allowed in the no shortcut category. as you said its mainly terminology. the point i was making is her quote technically is true that spot would count differently than other kinds of shortcuts as it is intended.

I think the fundamental difficulty here is, Mario Kart tracks are made with the assumption that the karts reach top speed within a few seconds. Trackmania cars just _keep_ accelerating, so eventually you can't make turns and crash (or hit the brakes). Who needs blue shells, anyway?
Still though, those are really solid adaptations of MK tracks, I love the idea 👍
also mario kart turns a bit tighter at speed and can drift better when required.
Trackmania cars at speed just cant match that level of control without going a ton slower than possible.
Aren't there speed limit blocks in trackmania? Sprinkle them before corners. Either do them as intended or manage your speed yourself.
also you can jump into drifts^^ would be cool to have a button that gives you a tiny bumper jump ^^

There’s a tight turn that can only be made with the TM car after losing a lot of speed? An inside drift bike from Mario Kart does it at full speed and gets a boost with the mini-turbo lol

Fun fact that shortcut on “brushroom george” is actually a shortcut in mario kart wii’s mushroom gorge called the gap jump, where you clear the huge gap at the end, i think that it’s a very niche reference. i highly reccomend looking at the no-glitch world record for it!
EDIT: Yes it is niche. Niche doesn’t mean small. Niche means it’s very specific and needs to fit someone’s exact tastes. Just because a lot of players still play MKWii, doesn’t mean it’s not niche.

@@drakkono its a shortcut on one map of one version of a map in one racing game that came out almost 15 years ago lol, if you polled the general public less then one in a thousand people would have any idea what youre talking about, that seems pretty fuckin niche to me
@@nitewalker11 it was an incredibly popular game. This was one of the most played tracks. This was one of the easiest shortcuts to find. As far as shortcuts go this was not niche lol

Well Mario Kart is quite different and is a Nintendo exclusive and Trackmania is by far most popular on PC, so it makes sense.
@@justNexi It might be because I am too young, but we played the hell out of Mario Kart, on Wii, Gamecube and DS, before we got PCs.

2:56 its actually intended in TrackMania, but in Mario Kart Wii's Mushroom Gorge (the source track for "Brushroom George", the "gap jump" was unintentional. Therefore I think its a shortcut.

On Mario Kart DS there was a muddy short way between the market booths at delfino square where you only got through with mushrooms. Would be interesting whether it is also included here

My interest in this game has gone from 10 to 1000, now knowing it's possible to do more than just making a track using the simple track editor. I'm not the type that particularly likes to be competitive but I *love* it when games either include map editors, or there is mods/software for the game that allows you to do cool things.

@@YOEL_44 The lighting is a bit weird yeah, but the track itself looks empty because it's the DS version and not the MK7 version, and also because it doesn't have the moving trees. It's not a very busy track in general
