I work for the Dept of Transportation here in Tennessee and we hear this all the time" The 1975 bridge will be replaced soon", but there in the UK they have bridges 500 years old still going strong
I don’t know how you do it but you manage to find the most interesting unique places in the UK . Having lived in London for years on end I feel quite ashamed of myself for not exploring our rich and precious historical towns. Living in London is like living on a hamster wheel spinning around and going nowhere. Many thanks for this superb upload .
THANK YOU EVER EVER SO SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEOS... SO COMFORTING BEAUTIES OF OUR LOVELY ENGLAND... THE ENGLAND OF MY HEART AND MY SOUTH I SO MUCH LOVE, AND I EVEN MORE MISS. BLESS.
Gorgeous buildings and spaces. The single glazed timber windows are the major detail which keeps the town looking beautiful, replaced with upvc double glazing the place would be instantly uglified. Installing solar panels on those delightful clay tiled roofs would likewise be a hideous blemish. I congratulate the local council and conservation team on keeping the beauty of Sandwich.
Beauty of England is at another level... its beautiful, charming & interesting historical places..the houses of ages well preserved, churches so good maintained & food it makes me hungry... ur videos so wonderful & always high on hopes, thank u
I grew up in Sandwich and remember when it was a really busy town especially on Thursdays , Market day, it was an absolute nightmare trying to find a parking space, with traffic congestion throughout the town. An interesting walk is around the old town wall which takes in the "Rope Walk" where ships rigging was laid out in the days when it was a busy port, The "Butts" which is where the town cricket club plays but was where archery practice was conducted in medieval times. "Hangmans Field" which was as the name suggests, where wrong doers met their maker, paying their debt to society leads to a small nature reserve at gazen salts playing field, then along the river to the Quay. Walking around the town taking in this route takes about an hour, well used to take me that long when I was fit with the dog, now with arthritis of the knee I probably would struggle to complete one section. Great video though which brought back many memories.... Just one final thing I was the "Saturday Boy " at the shop opposite the Guild Hall from 1973 until 1987ish many happy years spent working there.
Thank you for the lovely comment and your memories. It was a very unplanned trip and would have loved to have seen more we did miss some of those walks but the light was failing so, another time. Thanks for sharing extra ideas of things to see. Were you at the ironmongers?
Visited Sandwich 5years ago on one of my visits back to UK.Yes a lovely historic town so pretty. Sorry you missed the Gertrude Jekyll garden in Sandwich designed by Lutyens,a delightful place to visit.Another excellent video, thank you.
I did not know about this garden, it was actually unplanned visit to the town and so I had not done any research and time was limited but I think it turned out ok.
What a Charming little Town!! I Would LOVE To live Somewhere like this, There's Nothing Like This Here in The USA. Must Be My British Roots Calling Me Home.
I'm a Yank.I lived in Harrogate, Yorkshire back in the 60s. I was in the US Army at Menwith Hill Station. I so enjoy your walking tours....It's like reliving the the good old days with an added perspective...your great sense of knowing just what to film and present in a very interesting and professional manner. It shows that you do research and much work on each of your presentations. I eagerly await your next work. Bob Strickland
Hello Bob, thank you for your kind words. It does take a lot of effort to make the videos and yes we try hard with the research to find out some interesting information. Glad that it all comes across and glad to have you watching. All the best!
Absolutely love the medieval look of this charming little village. The timber frame structures are my favorite. Thank you so much for another wonderful video! God bless.
These timber frame houses are probably the nicest I have ever seen. I like the German and French ones there near Alsace, but these are much prettier ! Thanks for sharing !
Your tours are wonderful! This one was special to me because my ancestor "Thomas the Settler" (some form of Dewey) left Sandwhich and sailed to America in 1672(?). I would love to go there and see it in person--but this was a special treat because it is a beautiful town!
Bellisimoo el lugar las casitas hermosas el bus antiguo es adorable gracias a sus videos estoy conociendo toda Inglaterra Sonia Guerrero desde Argentina💝💝💝💝🙋🙋🙋🙋
Thanks a lot ! Your channel is so exciting and interesting! It's so lovely when I see your excusion! My mood is always will be better. I think your channel is one of the best .
It's amazing that the timber structured buildings lasted so long! I guess that through the centuries, the owners/renovators gave them lots of of TLC. It's a beautiful little town. I can easily imagine myself as a child again, growing up there and enjoying walks through the town, looking into shop windows. I like the cheerful background music for this video, too.
What a beautiful place that is. Totally gorgeous. Love the history with it too. I’m so enjoying these. Thanks for taking me along. Please stay safe and take care
Beautiful film of a special and old place. The old and also different stones that were used for the construction of the houses and the churches give a special atmosphere. It seems as if you are looking far back in time. The informative commentary is always a pleasure to listen to. Fortunately, the music in the background is well arranged again, so that you can understand everything well even with poor hearing. Thank you for this film!
What a treat to have you take me through charming Sandwich as I eat my breakfast! I’m adding it to my “must visit” list. This video has so many wonderful shots, I think you could sell stills … especially of the churches and the wonderful row of houses across from the jail. Beautiful beautiful!!!
Another great stroll taking in the sights and sounds, l like the idea of the curfew bell still being rung at 8.00pm. Saying that l will also say goodnight. Thanks for posting 🦘🐨🦘🐨😷
I really enjoy your channel, all the places you have visited and the history of the place. I am Mexican and I hope to visit this country soon and your channel helps me to know what places to visit and what to look for. I'm glad I found your channel.
So enjoy seeing these beautiful old English villages and your informative commentary. I love the UK but living in Australia I don’t get the chance to visit much. I look forward to all your uploads, thank you for sharing them.
I have been waiting for a quiet few minutes to enjoy this! That was really interesting as well as simply delicious (groan!). The Holy Ghost Alley as well as a lot of other buildings really make me see the Saxons were there. And imagine living in that former boarding house! I bet it’s amazing. Just last night I could smell the quintessential German woodsmoke smell in a town I was in, and then you tell me it’s English, too! You have to come for a visit and compare. I loved your video, as usual. Always a treat.
Thank you for another lovely treat! Leaning brick and half-timbered buildings with those small-paned windows are so wonderful to see, still standing, in use to this day. I did wonder if there was a connection with the Earl of Sandwich. Julie Montagu has another version of the sandwich story, that she explains on her channel, American Viscountess. Her father-in-law is the current Earl of Sandwich. You mentioned this video was from a short stop-over, but the beautiful film work (especially the light through the church windows at the end) equals any of your others. Cheers from California on this beautiful spring day. :)
I think there are a number of different stories none of which can be confirmed, all good fun to come up with what might have happened! Yes it was a completely unplanned trip having been at Dover castle in the morning. Didn't have a whole lot of time but I think it came out ok.
This was just a delightfully magical little town. I’ve never heard of Sandwich. But it had so much to offer! Loved all the history! Just fascinating! Simon thank you so much. Sending love from California🍀🤟🏻😎🍀🇺🇸🇺🇦
Thank you for the video and narrative. Lovely places. I live in USA Pacific NW ( hrs from British Columbia, Canada). My state was founded in 1889! Seeing buildings dating from 1200s is amazing.
Delightful and very informative/interesting video! Much better than the touristy videos of most of the travel sites and shows. Beautiful and very pleasant buildings! What a wonderful place Sandwich is, the sort of place I could quite happily live in! Thank you again! 😊.
I absolutely love your videos, and am so grateful to see and learn about so many special, beautiful places; thank you! I also really love your narration of historical background, and as always, especially like your music accompaniment/choices…! Thank you for the time and work you both put into these wonderful productions. All the best from Atlanta, GA! 🙏🏼✨
No car's in some of the streets making great to be able to see the great old buildings, a more pleasant view for me anyway, well done, keep your good work up.
I've been to so many places in the area over the past 30 years and always seemed to bypass Sandwich for some reason or another. After watching your video I think I should explore the town myself.
Hello Alice, hope you do explore it was just lovely to wander around. We had not planned to visit, and was so surprised at how much there is to see. We really ran out of light and missed a few bits so do go and see this wonderful town.
Hello Veronica so pleased you enjoy our videos. It really is wonderful. We have another video coming up in a month or so from Rye on the southern coast. I think it might trump Sandwich with the old buildings. Not somewhere we had heard much about so I think you will enjoy that one too! All the best.
I grew up in this small town - left about 20 years ago. Not much has changed. Then again I don’t think much has changed in 200 years either. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I remember riding my bike through Holy Ghost Alley as a young kid.

I think this is one of the reasons why haven´t visited London yet.

Enjoy your videos, it is the closest I will get to visiting the UK.
Glad we can share with you. All the best.
My sister lives in Reading and close to train station. If I were her I’d be out and about every weekend 😂. There’s so much to see in UK.
Reading is pretty far from sandwich
So much history in so many little towns and villages. It's a delight and oozes life from the past. Thank you once again =-)

I might be waffling on about something off topic here, but I don't suppose you or anyone else remembers this shop that used to be on Harnett Street that sold dolls houses, dolls house accessories, porcelain dolls, vintage accessories such as china ornaments etc? I recall going in that shop in the early 2000's.
I THINK it may have been replaced with the Headturners salon but don't quote me on that.
