Cloud realises what’s happened and plays along and Red gives a heartfelt thanks. Worthy little trip. Watch it in the first half of this vid: m.th-cam.com/video/hctq68e-E5s/w-d-xo.html
They are so many question about nanaki that I hope the remake is going to answer like what exactly is the name of their race and where do they come from ? How did they learn to speak human language? What exactly is the reasoning behind their extended lifespan? Not sure if Deneh is canon but even if she is are they other of his kind still lingering somewhere ? Even the gi were not really explained that clear what exactly they are and where they come from and why they attacked Cosmo canyon hope remake gon make justice for him he is my second favorite character after cloud.
Same here. I really hope they expand drastically on his species and everything about them. I have a strong feeling they're related to the Cetras in some way though and how comfortable Aerith was with him in the Remake seems to point that way.
I don't know why, but hearing that all his friends died, hopefully finding happiness themselves, but Red was able to find happiness in a newfound family, passing on his history and knowledge makes me cry. It means all their sacrifice wasn't in vain...
Red XIII did get a great introduction in the remake. Hopefully in the next game of the remake we get more details for him from the compelation to make him more fleshed out.
I didn't know anything about Final Fantasy. Then I watched a friend play and saw Red XIII in her party. This was more than a decade ago. I was absolutely fascinated by him. It made me want to play the game. Years later, and I haven't yet, but not because I don't want to... but because, over time, it had been long forgotten about when I played many other RPGs. Now that I hear the remake is on PC, I'm going to finally get it and play it, all because of that immense curiosity I felt when looking at this character.
Such a beautiful analysis and tribute, I really hope they do his character justice in FF7R. I recently replayed FF7 and after the Cosmo Canyon scenes it is so difficult to not want to have him in your party everywhere. I struggle with not bringing him, Tifa, or Yuffie along everywhere.
thanks for this.Red 13 was my favorite character in ff and i learned a couple things I never noticed or maybe forgotten.Super excited to use him in later installments.Very powerful scenes he had in Cosmo Canyon and the ending.I feel like in the remake they will add more depth to him like they seemed to have done already for other characters.
That story about Seto in FFVII gets me every time! I still continue to get emotional during that scene! I love it! In FFVII Remake Part II, I hope they don't change anything about Red XIII, he's origin story is perfect! Thank you guys for another AMAZING Final Fantasy video! Keep it up you guys! 👍
I agree I played the original game for the first time after the remake was announced havent beaten the entire game yet want to wait until they get closer to the end but nanakis story was my favorite if anything I would love if they expanded more of his story but not change any of it
Love Nanaki! One of my favorite scenes in all of Final Fantasy is when he finds Seto and "The Great Warrior" plays. As some others have already suggested, strongly recommend covering Barret if you are still in an FF7 mood. If not, and you are choosing another game, may I suggest Kain from 4, Faris from 5, Celes from 6, Laguna from 8, Kuja from 9, Jecht from 10, Ashe from 12, Noel from the 13 Trilogy, Ignis from 15, or Delita from Tactics. If you really want to do something new with the Character Lore series, perhaps even venture into the realm of the MMO with some 14 characters, just like how you recently did your first non-mainline title character with Ramza? Some immediately popular choices would likely be Emet-Selch or Crystal Exarch building off of the Shadowbringers success and hype, or perhaps Y'shtola, Alphinaud, Alisaie, Estinien, Haurchefant, or Zenos?
That point in this game ... the way nanaki cries and Seto's tears.... from a kid til now, always brings a tear to my eye... doesnt help that the music was perfect lol. This is my emotional moment in this game. Other people have aerith, for me it's this.
Andy Smith One of the best lines in FF history however, they made him a giant D-bag in FFVIIR. In the original he was a jerk but a more considerate and stereotypical warrior-like jerk.
I'm still hoping they release a character update with a full move list for him to use in the game. If the next game comes out in 2 plus years, let us play around with him even if it doesn't make sense story wise
Great video, as always. He might not be that popular, but do Cait Sith. Have a little section about what may be done different or changed with the remake. It’d be really interesting.
Thank you for doing an origin on Nanaki. When I got my dog, I wanted to name her Nanaki, as an homage to Nanaki. I would challenge myself on FF7, which meant no Vincent and on those times, Nanaki was a main in my team
Nanaki is the reason I picked FF7 as a kid when I saved up enough to buy a used PlayStation. At the time, I thought all videos games were like Mario, or versus games (Pokémon being the most unique to me). I was so surprised by this game and the amount of story, exploration, and depth it had. And Nanaki was such a special character. I also had him in my party as much as possible. I can’t wait to see more of him in part 2! Can you someday do an origins on Zack Fair? Your videos are really nice to watch
It's kinda crazy that people don't know that he's a cat... It's been confirmed since the original game and there was a red xiii video released by square in 2020 that refers to him as "courageous feline" in the first few seconds
@@raven-19x well maybe troll wasn't the right word but I think they are having fun with it to see who can spot the cat who's acting like a dog. The creator of the character has gone on record in an interview with IGN stating that he's a feline. And then there is the appearances can be deceiving video that revealed red in 2020 that refers to him as courageous feline
Glad to see more on Nanaki. Finally get to see more of his backstory. Hopefully they funnel some of that into the rest of the FF7 Remake. Also saved me the trouble of trying to playing Before Crisis, which I never realized had been translated.
A beautiful story of Nanaki and I very much agree he was and always will be my favourite character in FFVII, so much so I have a full colour effigy of him tattooed on my left shoulder. Don’t regret it for a moment
My favorite character in the game by far! First time I've played FFVII he was always on my party! I loved him since his first appearance in Hojo's lab but then when the Cosmo Canyon scenes happened my mind was set... He is and will be one of my absolute favorite characters in the entire series.
Whilst I won’t share my full reasoning as it’s kinda personal, I will say I have a Red XIII tattoo. It was the second one I got (first being a memorial for a loved one) so it’s safe to say the character had an impact on me growing up.
I never understood why bugenhagen allowed the village to spread rumors about seto. Once the conflict was over, and the secrecy no longer necessary, he could have told everyone what happened. What's the reason? He just didn't know that people thought seto was a coward? I like the whole arc for red xiii but this one point always bugged me and felt weak.
His limits aren't great but he makes a great caster/healer. Its not obviously shown in the game but most his weapons give large bonuses to his Magic Stats. He's also the fastest character naturally and one of the sturdiest (second highest base hp and decent base defense). His limits being on the crappier side can easily be mitigated by having a dedicated Tank with good ones (usually Cloud Barret or Cid) by using the Cover Materia. Howling Moon is incredibly good in one situation though. In the battle arena, when grinding for the Champion's Belt, W-Summon and Omnislash. If you use it at the start it lasts for all 8 rounds, all you need is a Ribbon to cancel out the Berserk effect (you want to use one for the arena normally regardless of who you pick for it as Status are insanely annoying to deal with in it).
I know you've done Omega and Chaos already, but can you do a compilation video on all Gaia's forms? With the introduction of Whisper Harbinger as a new addition
At first I thought "oh, so he's one of the joke characters, like Umaro or something." NOPE, I balled my heart out after the seen with Red and his dad's petrified remains.
Final fantasy 7 was truly the best Final fantasy storyline when you include the story across all mediums. im kind of disappointed they didnt use the remake as a chance to compile the entire storyline with updated graphics. i.e. compile the entire story with consistent graphics and then end the story entirely to focus on future stories. after all they already have a solid foundation to work with using all the various games/media, but several are on lower end platforms. wont happen now but i can still dream cant i? perhaps i may still see a LOTD remake or remaster.
I wish I had Nanaki as a friend. He and I are both rather similar in quite a few ways. For years, I had a serious misconception about my birth father based on what others told me about him. But that’s all I’m going to say in regards to that.
I'm re-playing the classic game now and without a doubt Nanaki is the best character in the game. Approaching the end, he is a constant member of the group, and he will definitely be in the final fight against Saphroth. I like him so much that I adapt the Nanaki's species as a playable race in my 5th edition D&D homebrew campaign. Unfortunately, we do not have an official name for the species.
I know theres probably official size charts and whatnot, but man, he seem so small in the remake. Like not even wolf size, let alone lion size like he was in my minds eye as a kid
Red xiii is still technically a teen in the eyes of his race so he still have some time before he grows an actual adult form that why he seem bigger and bulkier in appearance 500 years later
Red XIII and Cosmo Canyon had a weird traditional Japanese/American West fusion thing going on, very unique in the FF series. Him and Cid were always my choices for an endgame party.
my party was ALWAYS(once they were all unlocked) Cloud, Red 13 and Cid...straight to the end with safer sephiroth. I was so disappointed we couldn't play him in the remake but I'm hopeful the next part will remedy that. He is my fave character in the original, and honest honestly my second fave character in all of final fantasy. he's a wolf... that talks, kicks ass and has a multilayered personality... if you DON't like him you have no imagination or vision XD
So after the war with the Gi was over, why did they have to keep Seto's actions a secret again? If it's to make sure no one finds out about the Gi cave, the war was only like 50 years ago. Not a single person in Cosmo Canyon remember there was a Gi cave there? There's literally a kid who's trying to get the door to the cave open, it's not very well hidden.
I always wondered that, too. Like apparently Seto's own son didn't deserve to know his dad wasn't a POS deserter over 50 years later. It feels like this whole scene should have rightfully happened so much earlier, lol.
Honestly I would love an ending to his arch where (be it dlc or part of the over all story) it’s possible to revive his father. I mean how awesome would that be? Instead of him being alone and having to grow alone after losing his grandfather he gets his father back, a piece of his life back and he can start seeing his friends for what they are, a experience worth embracing, and not the future heart arch he has had to grow accustomed too.
I cried so fucking hard when you found Nanakis father. To me, thay's still more impactfull then the death of A. The music is also so perfect. God I love that game, I wanna say "Nanaki is my favorite character!. Bur then i remember Tifa, Yuffie, Barett and I love them all so much.
I played this game for the first time last year in October. Red 13 is my favorite. His theme is also absolutely amazing and gives me Native American vibes. His story was so good I didn’t expect the game to have that much detail into him. Behind tifa, he was the second strongest in my party and he looks so damn amazing in the remake , I can’t wait to play him in the part 2 of the remake
This was a great video. One thing I’ve always wondered about Nanaki is why he’s the only party member the game lets you give the Black Material to for safekeeping in the Crater. And then he’s tricked by the illusion. Why Nanaki? I read a theory that it’s because he’d been injected with Jenova cells during Hojo’s experiments, so he’s the only one in the party other than Cloud that Jenova could easily manipulate. What do you think?
I'm 3 years late but actually you can only give it to Nanaki or Barret (unless one of them is in your party of 3), reason being they're the ones with Cloud since Midgar and therefore are the ones he trusts the most, while the rest (Cid, Cait Sith and co.) are too scared to take care of the materia
Well, I'm sure his grandfather would have told him on his 54th birthday... He is 48 years old which translates to 16 years old for his species which is why Aerith called him a child in the remake when you first meet him. which also means that cloud and the rest of the group should be arrested for child endangerment.....
Highly unlikely he'll be in the future of Remake. He's designed after Gackt, therefore it'd be like a breach of something to use his likeness again without a prior agreement.
@@yoloalchemist then let's hope there will be some kind of agreement to bring this character back into the story and give his tale a good conclusion as well as answer all the questions we have had after seeing that secret ending in Dirge of Cerberus.
What game did the scenes involving Deneh come from? That was all new to me and I would be interested in playing that game. Red XIII has always been my favorite Final Fantasy character. This video opened my eyes to more information than I ever knew of! Great video.
Hey Corey, thanks for commenting! Those scenes came from a game called Before Crisis, which was a Japanese exclusive mobile game. Fans have attempted to translate themselves though, so people in the West can play it.
We hope you guys enjoyed the video! Who else used Red XIII as one of their main three characters after he joined the party?

Lab rat dog is something else in the Remake, thanks in large part I believe to Max Mittleman. What a charming character.

Best side character in all the final fantasy games right there
Wow, thanks for this! I know Nanaki's back story now! Makes him even more lovable!
Great to see TPR getting some play as the background music here. His piano renditions of RPG music are beautiful.
I never thought greatly about Red, I didn't like or dislike him. Now because of you I appreciate him.
That point in this game ... the way nanaki cries and Seto's tears.... from a kid til now, always brings a tear to my eye... doesnt help that the music was perfect lol.
This is my emotional moment in this game. Other people have aerith, for me it's this.
‘Says the 300 pound sack of it’
- Red XIII
That was a good bit of dialogue, but it's very contextual, so if you use it as a quote, it doesn't make sense.
Andy Smith One of the best lines in FF history however, they made him a giant D-bag in FFVIIR. In the original he was a jerk but a more considerate and stereotypical warrior-like jerk.
AveryTubeHD you do realize he was in the very end of the game . I am sure they will flesh out he is character more in the next parts
@@danh-no8pt I unerstand but being in the being in the end of the game doesn't excuse weird writing.
Barrett: you see the piece of $&@# we're driving here.
Nanaki: Says the 300 pound sack of it.
Pretty sure Bugen Hagen passed away before they dealt with Sephiroth. That's how Red XIII was able to get his ultimate weapon. :/
Nanaki and Seto scene hits me in the feels, o man and that music. This is going to be incredible in the remake.
Love it, Red XIII is my favorite. So glad you guys did his origins. Thank you!
You're most welcome Brenda! :)
He is one of my all time favorite characters from 7 next to Vincent the seto scene damn near made me cry
One of the only gripes I had with the remake was that he was not playable! Travesty.
Yeah, but when you consider that he doesn't show up until the end of chapter 16 of 18, it makes sense that they'd save him for REMAKE part 2.
I'm still hoping they release a character update with a full move list for him to use in the game. If the next game comes out in 2 plus years, let us play around with him even if it doesn't make sense story wise
Nanaki is one of my favorite characters in ff7. He was my second best character beside Cloud. Next do Barret. He has a interesting origin.
And yet he acts very dog like in Rebirth lol. I'm not sure if SE is trolling us.
@@raven-19x well maybe troll wasn't the right word but I think they are having fun with it to see who can spot the cat who's acting like a dog. The creator of the character has gone on record in an interview with IGN stating that he's a feline. And then there is the appearances can be deceiving video that revealed red in 2020 that refers to him as courageous feline
bugenhagen didn't die suddenly. You can go back to Cosmo canyon and red 13 can have his final moments with bugenhagen as he dies
Glad to see more on Nanaki. Finally get to see more of his backstory. Hopefully they funnel some of that into the rest of the FF7 Remake.
Also saved me the trouble of trying to playing Before Crisis, which I never realized had been translated.
My team was always either Vincent and Yuffie Cloud, Or Tifa Red And Cloud. Sometimes Barrett. I’m very glad he’s getting love in Rebirth.
When Nanaki see's his father for the first time in the Remake its going to wreck me like the original did.
I always loved this character since I was a kid. My first RuneScape account was called “ iamredxiii “. I ALWAYS ran him in my party when I was young.
Red XIII always has a spot in my party.
He may not be the best character when it comes to damage output, but he is definitely the coolest.
Can you guys do the origins of Freya Crescent from FF9?
:) Lab Rat Dog! Thanks for an amazing video FFU!
Next up should be Laguna Loire!!
You're most welcome Walker and thanks for the suggestion :)
Love your stuff, keep em coming!! And thanks!!
I made the mistake of playing through this game again right after my dad died...got to that cosmo canyon scene...it recked me that time.
Red is one of my favorite characters. Do Barret Wallace next
I know you've done Omega and Chaos already, but can you do a compilation video on all Gaia's forms? With the introduction of Whisper Harbinger as a new addition
This
At first I thought "oh, so he's one of the joke characters, like Umaro or something." NOPE, I balled my heart out after the seen with Red and his dad's petrified remains.
Nanaki's story made you play sports?
Great video Red XIII is such a great character, for the suggestion I'd love to see the origins of Kuja
Just noticed that Lion King's form of Sora was heavily inspired in Nanaki's son design
Unfortunately, we do not have an official name for the species.
you can just listen to the song “Cosmo Canyon” by Random from the album “Black Materia”. it summarizes the whole story 😅
@@oggregster possibly.
Red XIII and Cosmo Canyon had a weird traditional Japanese/American West fusion thing going on, very unique in the FF series. Him and Cid were always my choices for an endgame party.
I've seen your videos every now and then.
This video makes me a subscriber and I actually clicked off another video to see this one asap
love the video! Nanaki used to be my favorite character. keep the amazing work up
Thank you very much!
no one knew how his voice sounded like
my party was ALWAYS(once they were all unlocked) Cloud, Red 13 and Cid...straight to the end with safer sephiroth.
Also, I love your content! I am so happy I subscribed!
I love Red X111!!!!! He's one of my favorite characters from the FF franchise ever!!! Please do Agrias Oaks from Tatics please!!!
Why his grandfather never told him about his dad’s sacrifice never made sense to me.
Well, I'm sure his grandfather would have told him on his 54th birthday... He is 48 years old which translates to 16 years old for his species which is why Aerith called him a child in the remake when you first meet him. which also means that cloud and the rest of the group should be arrested for child endangerment.....
One of these about Kuja or Ultemcia would be great
Nanaki is a top 10 character for me (in a final fantasy game). Cosmo Canyon is a top 10 ff city, and cosmo canyon theme is top 1 music for me.
Please do Genesis next because he has so much potential in this story if the fans will let him have a chance to shine.
Yes!! I wanted this origins so bad! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
No problem Halldor, glad you enjoyed it :) ~Darryl
Teared up remembering this.
