    Why is eveyone so shocked whenever they see a large percentage of European or indigenous/Native American. Remember how colonization and the slave trade worked.

    I mean, Hispanic isn't a race. It just means someone whose native language is Spanish, in a Spanish speaking country. Plus, the majority of Guatemalan's are Native American. Being Native American doesn't only apply to the U.S, it applies to all of the Americas. That's why your Native American percentage was so high😊

    Your Native American came from your father, who is Guatemalan. He is mostly Mayan Indian. I watched a video of a Mexican girl, and her DNA turned out to be 95% Native American, which means she was mostly Aztec in origin. She took a trip to Viet Nam, and most of the people there thought she was multi-racial, asking if her mother was Chinese or Filipino, as she looked rather Asian. I took Ancestry DNA test, and was pleased with my results. I've been researching my family history since 1978, and the test backed up my research 100%. I'm 64% English, 15% Scottish, 9% German, 8% Irish, 4% Welsh.

    I'm not surprised at all that you have such a high percentage of Native American :) Look at your father and his family, they appear very much Native American and they are from Guatemala, a country of indigenous peoples (aka Native Americans). They're dark skinned with thick black hair and strong features! Native people of the Americas may speak Spanish languages but that does not make them Spanish. Spanish people are European, white people. It took me a while to realize all of this myself lmao but this is so fascinating! I loved this video. I really wanna find my results now!!

      azure kite yes, there are people who are citizens of Spain and yet do not have ethnic origins in Spain. Spanish people, as an ethnic group, are European lol just as there are white people in South Africa who might consider themselves South African, but ethnically wise they are European white.

  • @heyitsgianna5487

    Just wanted to put out there you don’t have to be “mixed” to have the same type of hair or curl pattern as jewellianna

    • @sheshashaniki
      @sheshashaniki 7 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      hey its gianna oh stop it. There is nothing wrong in being mixed and you don’t know for sure unless you do a dna. You would be surprised how “mixed” we all are!

    • @sheshashaniki
      @sheshashaniki 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      God'sDaughter you just contradicted the OP’s comment. Please know that I am not being rude but Your maternal family is mixed and that explains your hair type..simple. I know a lot of girls followed jewelliana because they thought both her parents were black and felt they could achieve her curls too. I’m from Central America and have a similar mixture to hers, however my hair has much looser waves but my sister’s hair is more like jewliiana’s with tighter more defined curls, so yes I agree that the way genes show up in a person is interesting. But the bottom line is that you MUST have those genes present to show up in the first place!

    • @heyitsgianna5487
      @heyitsgianna5487 7 ปีที่แล้ว +104

      Shan Iki I never said there was anything wrong with being mixed. If you’re mixed, that’s ok, and if you’re not mixed, that’s ok. There are full black people with no mixed parents or grandparents with jewellianna’s hair type/type 3 hair. For example a youTuber named Nia Imani is fully black with type 3 hair.

    • @heyitsgianna5487
      @heyitsgianna5487 7 ปีที่แล้ว +67

      If you wanna believe that your parents or grandparents have to be mixed to have hair like hers than ok. Whatever floats your boat 🤷🏽‍♀️🚣.

    • @KadieBlue
      @KadieBlue 7 ปีที่แล้ว +81

      You would be hard pressed to find a non-mixed West African with hair like hers. African Americans are multi-generationally mixed. That's why some of us have 3c hair. Black Africans don't have type 3 hair unless they are mixed. Nia Imani doesn't know what she is until she takes a DNA test.

  • @katzmeow4
    @katzmeow4 7 ปีที่แล้ว +361

    If I'm not mistaken, most Latinos nowadays have a mix of European and Native American ancestry due to the Spanish settlers mingling with the Native Americans, which explains why you have that DNA. I haven't taken one of those tests yet, but my mom did a while back and she's 60% West African (mainly Nigerian, I think she said). I definitely want to do it also!

    My mother is Hispanic and my father is black. Since taking my Dna test, I’ve devoted an immense amount of time researching and learning about the histories and different types of “native” people. The Native American can also translate as meso American which are the central or southern Native American people. My family is from northern Mexico who migrated and own a large amount of land in south Texas. My ancestry is also Native American, but I know through tracing my family lineage back we come from conversing Jews who left Spain to settle in a new land a live out their Jewish lifestyle (which still didn’t work). So the European can also not only be from slave trade, but from your fathers side and makeup of Spanish European decent!
    There is so much to learn, and when one takes the time to learn, the better understanding we have of how we get to where we are today in our world. It also gives you a more compassionate heart towards people when you understand the different struggles and sacrifices that our ancestors made that provided us the lives we have today!

    Most ethnic groups in Central/South America are derived from Native American people Mayan, Aztec, Incan etc. It simply means the people who were indigenous to the America's. The names of countries like 'Guatemala' just came after European/Spaniard presence. Spaniards took over NATIVE American land and inserted their language. They aren't Spanish they are Native American. The same way Blacks are not English/from England. Lol, so it would make sense that you had a large portion of Native American being your father is from there.

      Someone Native americans come into a small percentage of black americans because of the hidden history. Native americans actually enslaved Africans too, Surprised yes i don't know why because native americans went threw slavery (enslaved by the white people) So why would you enslave someone if you know how it feels , but that really doesn't come threw peoples minds for some reason.

      I was also going to mention the high percentage of native American and Asian was due to her father's side NOT her mother's. The European and African was from her mother and most (not all) of the native and Asian from dad's Guatemalan ancestry. Still an interesting story and beautiful young lady. Mine is 69% African, 21% European/other (

      Keisha Actually, the indigenous people, which includes indigenous people of present day Guatemala, are the native people of the Americas. When they say Americas, they're referring to both continents (north and South America). Regardless of what tribe the indigenous people belonged to, they are the native people of the Americas

While I was traveling in Africa my mother found out that she was mostly Nigerian after taking a DNA kit; thought that was cool. She always thought there was some Native in the blood but she had "0%". Honestly your DNA breakdown probably should’ve been expected. Lol, you are black and Hispanic/Latino. Many black Americans have a 20-40% European in their blood because of slavery. As for Your Hispanic/Latino side, Hispanic means Spanish speaking and Latino means you are from Latin America, you can be one without the other and that’s kinda important to know before I move on. Most latinos are native Americans. They were native Americans before the Spanish (Spain AKA Europeans) came. Your Latino IS your Native American, that’s why it’s so high. Your European is high because when Spain colonized a lot of the countries in Latin America, it implanted its European roots into the native land, AND slavery/rape on Your Africa side. It’s always interesting to find out your genetic makeup, but knowing world history AND just finding out where your family comes from/what they are and using the two of those things together will help one figure it out.(For those who don’t want to pay). More of a surprise would’ve been Asian (not east, because they have direct ties to native Americans) or middle eastern and the countries it list

    • @sydneym.8306
      @sydneym.8306 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mike Davis it’s definitely higher than that. Lol. How do you explain so many light skin and lighter brown skinned blacks? We are not mixed. Many of us lighter ones come from families of all black on both sides. My whole dads side of the family is light skin, None are mixed. Many black people gave higher percentages that 5-15, and while it may not be 40 I clearly remember it being higher like 30 something. While there are people who are mostly African, the average African America is not more than 75%. And the average African American is also not mixed with anything but European and a very slim percent of native, if they have that.

    • @musingsof5534
      @musingsof5534 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've already done ancestryDNA, but I just had to buy 23andMe today also! They're having a black friday sale where you can save $30 on the ancestry report, and $50 on the ancestry and wellness report! I know my uncle used 23andMe, and was literally 99.7% ashkenazi jewish, and 0.2% Broadly European and the rest unassigned. I am only half Jewish, but come from an especially dark jewish father. I am applying to schools in Italy, Ireland, Scotland, and England, and my passion is the Israel-Palestine crisis. I hope to major in International Relations, and geneology and genetics are fascinating to me because they may interconnect. I'm interested to see the similarities between the services, and have an even richer understanding of who I am. I can't wait to show my primarily British/Irish/Western European mom how her influence conveys too! I hope to become even more knowledgable because I am often asked why I say being Jewish is an ethnicity above a religion. I only this fall changed my identity from Atheist to Secular Jewish after 8 years+. Love your hair, and this video. I was also wondering (naively) if people of African descent experience changes in their curls through the seasons... I haven't been able to get my usual jew curls since the weather got colder! My AncestryDNA results were 41% European Jewish, 19% Western Europe(Fr/Ger), 8% each of British and Irish/Scottish/Welsh, 7% Iberian, 5% each of Scandinavian/Europe South/Europe East, and 2% Finland/NW Russia!

      Tgore2 There are quite a few “Hispanics” who have neither indigenous or African ancestry and are entirely European.

    Girl lmao listen. It's obvious you are of African origin ok cool. You said your dad is Guatemalan ? Right . That is still considered Native American . His pale skin color comes from his Spain background which is in Europe which is why it showed you 15% When people think Native American they skip past Mexico central Latin America some Carribbean islands like Puerto Rico , Cuba, Dominican Republic etc, and South America too.

      Also there is a huge correlation between Native American and Eastern Asia too. Based on phenotype, well appearances

    According to 23andMe, I am 85.3% Sub-Saharan African (Nigerian, Ghanian, and Sierra Leonean, Congolese and East African), 11.3% European (French and German, British and Irish), 1.3% Western Asian and North African, 1.2% East Asian and Native American, 0.1% Central and South Asian, 0.8 unassigned, and Jamaican ancestry. I just find this out in July 2020, but it confirms what my family has told me all my life about being African-American, Jamaican, German, and Native American. For the health part, straight & wavy hair came up for me too, and my hair is similar to your curl pattern, and I had lots of newborn hair as a newborn too.

    I had this done about 5 days ago, and it was *extremely* surprising because im lighskinned, muslim, and speak a little over 7 languages. I don't know my father, and this is why it was really surprising. I love watching these videos (mostly mixed people like you and me) because I can relate to most of it. Love it!!! *(No hate i love everyone because everyone is unique and beautiful! Stay confident in your culture[s], babes!!)*
