I guarantee it probably wouldn't make a bit of difference. Mark has tested expensive shafts versus stock shafts, heavy versus light, all of it, and it all comes out to be the same. Not trying to knock custom fitting, but it's not magic dust or a silver bullet.
@@CosmicApe I know Mark doesn't think the shaft makes a difference but maybe if someone else fit him and he was open minded then at least it would make for a good video.
Just did a fitting of Mavrik against SIM. 20 handicapper and first ever custom fit. Before going was favouring Mavrik. Both were way more forgiving than my current driver (2015 - Callaway X-hot). However SIM was just a bit easier to hit and therefore overall performed better for me. Incidentally exactly the same happened in the irons (was Callaway x-series). So new full SIM bag on the way!!
I was a TM user from the old Ti Bubble 2 until last year when I went to a TS3. If I was to buy a new driver it would be one of the Mavrik variants. Love the colour, sound and performance!
My dad gave me the same driver, I just got into golf. That TI is pretty hard to hit well and not slice right got me. If I see a cheap opportunity for the maverick I’m going for it.
Why would you not consider almost a 2* dynamic lie change for the dispersion difference? Surely Callaway being more upright is helping you keep it up the left
I got fitted for a TS3 driver this year. I like the more rounded and classic look of a driver. I really love the sound and feel at impact with the TS3 driver.
You know! I just realized that since I found you on social media several years ago. You have helped open to the average golfer an enormous amount of game improving and changing information that really helps the average golfer tremendously. It's a very different golf world since the day back in early 2000 when I first started to learn to play the game. Thanks, Mark!
It’s getting harder for manufacturers.. technology on clubs has probably reached its limit... now its who can boast the best claims.!! Both clubs are lovely. Great vid guys xx
Like you guys said, it comes down to aesthetics and your preference of beauty. Personally prefer a sleeper and Ping is killing it the G710 and G400 Max.
A local pro/fitter tested me for both (along with other options) and found not a lot of difference between the two to be honest. Neither gave me the biggest numbers of the ones I tried, there wasn’t a lot in the dispersion, and no significant rise in speed either. In the end I went with SIM Max simply because I felt more comfortable and confident with it and preferred the look. Not particularly scientific but there it is. Both are good products. It’s the first TM driver I’ve ever owned so I’ll see how I go!
Tested the Mavrik yesterday. The importance of custom fitting is vital to get the most out of your game. Loved the looks, noise and feel of the Mavrik. There's just too much going on visually with the SIM for me.
I think testing heads with the same shaft provides some useful info and highlights the differences but testing the head and shaft combo that optimises performance from each is equally, if not more, valuable since that's the outcome we're all looking for. The later is also starting to show just how little difference there really is between optimised versions of each 'class' of driver head (low spin vs. low spin, max moi vs. max moi, etc.). It seems that performance (from a fitting) is becoming so similar that it is almost down to 'feel' as the deciding factor. It would be great to see you fit a couple of different golfers of varying swing speed and then do another head-to-head.
That bit sticking out the bottom of the Sim reminds me of the top of a Cylons head from the late 70's TV show Battlestar Galactica. Not a bad thing. loved that show as a kid.
I see a lot of other reviewers being a little critical of TM. It seems to be the thing to do now. Don’t matter I still need to test a bunch of drivers before I upgrade this year and both of these are on my list. 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
For me twist face is a mental thing for me. Makes me feel more confident on a heel strike which is my miss. But yes I know it barely does anything if it does anything at all. And knowing that I bought the SIM lol
love the flashy look of the TM SIM, however I would play the driver that gave me the best results from my fit. I use TXG for my fitting. was nice to see the collaboration you did with them
@@michaelbarnocki5668 Make a rather large difference with mine. Normal inside out with closed face and correct plane = nice draw. Lower that plane for more tow up and snap hook all day long!
Hahahaha..."that's their problem not mine"...pure gold...just slipped it right in there...honestly what were Callaway thinking when they took what is obviously and outstanding club and named it MavRIK and painted it burnt orange??? Good news is we'll be able to pick it up for super cheap next season. Keep up the good work guys!
I am a college player over in the states and have used the M5 Tour since I came back for the summer holidays last summer. I have the 9 degree model lofted down as far as it will go which opens the face massively and twist face makes the toe point miles right. My miss strikes are often toe and high toe, this has made me struggle with balls starting right and never drawing back. The face caved in last week and I'm using an epic flash which feels much better on my miss hits. Don't like twist face and have heard the tour players have models without it.
I prefer the look of the tm. Not keen on the colour of the maverik. But based on the stats I'd pick the callaway all day. Jusu get used to the colour or hope they do a custom shop for the colour. I'd live to hear more kn the beef with mark and TM. Great review again
I find it funny that you now agree with myself in this video about twist face, We had a wee disagreement when you first tested M5 & M6 saying twist doesn't work the ball doesn't come back and commented saying it not meant to come back it's to neutralise a toe hook or heel cut but in this video your seeing exactly there is no where near as much gear effect. 🤔
Wayne Trinier I went for a fitting and didn’t really consider the Cleveland but once I hit it it was so consistent and on average out performed everything but the odd one from sim or Mavrik was about 5 yards further but drop off on a bad hit was to much.
Every review I've seen, even if some don't love it (James that means you) get fantastic dispersion from the Mavrik. So I went and tried it..... Sprayed it about exactly the same as my old Ping K15. Bloody technology...🤬🤬
I played with a golfer with a fast swing who started to hook the ball out of the heel of a Taylormade with twist face. The flew low and at about 100-150 yards it broke to left at almost a 90 * angle. Never saw anything like it. He had stop using the driver.
I play an M4 (the first model with Twist Face) and I've always felt that the ball will fall further right when I'm hitting it on a simulator, once I go outside I dont see that result. This could be for a multitude of reasons, but just my personal experience
When I first saw it, I thought for sure the back portion of the SIM would be a long changeable weight similar to the Titleist sure fit system. A removable tube where one end is heavier and you could flip it to move CG forward or back. Maybe in the future, but if any driver has the build to do it it’s the SIM
Received my Mavrik Max 3 wood this morning, first outing with it tomorrow morning, I’m a 12 handicapper so would be great to hear your views on improved or differing forgiveness with the Max fairway and hybrid clubs as this is a key buying consideration for me, I’m currently looking at other fairway woods and the 4 and 5 hybrid options in the Callaway Mavriks. Your videos are great and really helpful filling in gaps as fitting where I live is limited to just one or two options.
Hi Mark you are right I have just got the sim max and cannot stop it slicing right and I gad it fitted not happy with it so I have got back to the callaway epic flash. But I am looking at the mavrik max. would love for you and matt to fit me .
You said it Mark, it's a mental thing for you with the TM driver. This speaking as someone who has an Epic Flash driver and doesn't have a TM club in the bag.
Mark for all the crap you get from the haters and certain companies or company! Your reviews are still some of the most objective! Thanks Brauh. Cheers from Norcal
Noticed the mavrik was delivered 2 degrees more “toe up” than the sim... was it in upright setting? Could that be a possible explanation for being more draw biased?
With the sim aerodynamics, what happens if your swing path doesn’t line up with the angle of the weight in the TM? Does that effect the ball? Block, hook, distance etc etc?
Since moving away from the M6 to the Turbo Launcher I can control draws and fades easier. Have to agree that twistface doesn't help the better player shape the ball.
100% favour the Callaway Maverick! Looks great! Personally think the TaylorMade looks tacky! Good video, well done for trying to stay impartial but was still obvious Mark much preferred the Maverick too!
Hi Mark. I game a M4 d type but don't like the twist face because if I hit it high toe, I want it to draw not leak right into the rough. But I love it when in hitting it out of the middle. I'd certainly go mavrik out of these 2
Regarding speed, it could well be the case that aero has greater affect at higher swing speeds. More resistance at higher speeds so therefore more potential to help
Okay, great overall review it’s still up to the player? I was fitted for both Maverick and Sim, results were similar and with all the technology and ability to fiddle with the club head I still will use the Cleveland hb turbo launcher driver. Less tech and marketing better driver for me!
I’ve heard so many reviews saying the Mavrik sounds great, and in the videos it doesn’t seem “pingy”. But i was watching some tournament highlights, can’t remember which Callaway staffer, maybe Mickelson, but when they were teeing off the Mavrik sounded like one of those older Ping drivers. Was loud. Maybe it sounds great if your swinging 105 or less, but whoever it was, was swinging 115-120 and it was very high pitched .
Great comparison information Mark, not a fan of the Mavrik look, but, that's something you can disregard if you hit it better than another and it plays better all around for you. As always, Thx for sharing your knowledge.... Get on a course Muppet Tour Pros, let's see your bag contents in action!!!
Hey Mark, I changed from an XR16 to an M6 d-type. 10 handicapper....... so I’m told 😂 I’ve always struggled with high fades but since changing, now hitting bombing draws. Never seen anything odd with twist face. Love love love love Twistface!! Sorry 🤔🤫🙄😩
With my m1 440cc I had issues with it. Took me over a year to figure it out. Closed toe hit would be a snap hook into someone's house. Could not use it below 10.5 degrees and learned to play a cut with it. Once I learned the cut I started hitting some bombs but took me forever. Head cracked. TM was solid and sent me a new m5 head and I added a shaft. Only hit it a couple of times since I got it but I think all the learning I did with the m1 has helped but if I have to hit a draw I just put it away and hit my Callaway 3 wood. We'll see how the TwistFace m5 works but the 2 drives I hit on Saturday ( one was a bomb ) were both solid. So far with the TM's I have learned to just hit high toe fades medium height and that seems to be the preferred shot. Does remove the left side of the course off the tee.
So the path on both drivers was exactly the same, the Taylormade was actually LESS closed to the path than the Callaway, but the Taylormade consistently finished significantly more right than the Callaway with a wider dispersion. Twist Face seems like a worse option if you ask me!
Would be interesting to see the common folk hit both. Imagine most of the higher MOI clubs would test similar, bet the G400 Max etc would give ball park numbers as well. The OEM arms race has nowhere to go with same set of limiting rules.
Have just had fitting Callaway “no maverick in store yet” Titleist TS2 my numbers were not good Came down to Ping G410 vs TM Sim and the numbers for Sim were best and with the colour scheme the head looked smaller (optical illusion) but the sound was the winner.
I think both companies have come up with great offerings that will appeal to players that haven't seen liked their last 3 or 4 releases. Unfortunately the stock shaft offerings are junk.
I'd like to see a Callaway Rogue vs. Mavrik demo for those of us who don't buy a driver every year. Tons of Epic vs. Mavrik and Rogue vs. Epic. None Rogue vs. Mavrik. Would be interesting to see a demo with a club from 2 years ago.
Hey Mark I actually think that's a Clone Trooper on top of the Ping? Maybe do a test between Stormtroopers and Clone Troopers and see which helmet is more aerodynamic?? Keep up thew great work!!
Good stuff guys, Where is Taylormade taking the volume from for the Inertia generator. It looks huge but the rest of the head doesn't look any smaller. I think the Cobra Speed Zone is better looking than both clubs and sounds better as well.
Tm looks ridiculous on the bottom , also totally agree the face at address is awful. However I prefer the cobra xtreme to both of those ... great video guys.. 😉🏌️♂️⛳️🍻
I have the tour M5 cos of the same issue mark has and I would say to mark try a smaller face I feel it's more game able for me and would love to see mark try it if taylormade release one
I tried both and went for the Cobra. It was close between Cobra and Taylormade but the Sim just seemed to throw in the occasional wild one that I didn’t get with the Cobra. That may have been down to fatigue but just really liked what I was getting from the Cobra. I didn’t like the look of the Mavrik behind the ball and this made me feel uncomfortable and therefore I don’t think I managed to get the best from it..
I start to know what the conclusion would be before I watch this type of comparison which isn't necessarily good. I hope you keep the neutralness though it is easy said than done. Keep up the good work!
Lovely review hands down. I'd go Sim, looks and sound, and just a tad more spin to my liking. I'd love to see them both in the course as well, see if the spin is an issue over there. Keep it up!
Love the videos but still think the tester should put their current stats of the club they use against the club they are testing. So if mark is testing a driver then put up the stats of his current driver next to the tested club
I have the same problem with the twist face, My natural shot shape is neutral but I tried this in the sim and on course and lost so many shots out to the right
Great vid. I wonder, if Taylormade are purchased from the asset management company, will they actively seek critical review? Isn’t that how ‘we’ get better at stuff???! Oh and please do your Tesco test.......but you’ll have to do it in Sainsbury’s, Asda, Iceland, morrisins, Lidl and Aldi. Different consumers after all. And you wouldn’t want to upset a supermarket too?!
Love the overlay of the computer image of the driving range, top notch editing Lockey
@Coach Lockey still a nifty little attention to detail that makes you guys great. That nice new office space had you away from the editing bay eh?

Toe up or down on a driver doesn't change much. The less loft you present, the less lie angle matters.

Would like to see a forgiving fairway shootout, mavrik max, speedzone, sim, g410 etc
Mavrik 100%. I like a more closed face look at a dress because I usually fade it.
Matt...... hmmmm. Love it ! Such a good sound... oh dear! The AI is so sweet. That was a fun compare.... good job M8s. Tnx!
Mark , I would go with Taylormade Max , tried it and Callaway but Taylormade have it ,
I have the tour M5 cos of the same issue mark has and I would say to mark try a smaller face I feel it's more game able for me and would love to see mark try it if taylormade release one
I love the overlay. Well done!
I found the same the same thing with twist face, too many balls left out to the right. I don't have that issue with other drivers.
Hey Mark loving the content as usual
Callaway all today long, taylormade are to gimmicky for me .that’s not say say they are not good drivers, just not for me. Another great review.👍
It's been a little while since I've done any custom fitting for myself I can't get my head around how del lofting the club opens the face
Working the ball left to right for me the twist face works. I don’t want to turn it over and that helps me prevent it. #TwistFaceArmy
Keep it up!
Great update on the craphics 👏🏼
You need the Sim D type Bruh. I have always had a high flight and problematic fade and the M6 D type is spot on for me
Love the videos but still think the tester should put their current stats of the club they use against the club they are testing.
