so for example: a copy editor would spot a typoe like "littering" and correct it when you obviously from the context meant "lottery" but were yet another victim of auto-correct.
Love this advice. A book takes a lot of editing and that's part of what makes it a never-ending project. Getting the right support can help put a deadline on it and make it professional and polished if not "perfect." Thank you, Julie!
I was so impressed with what a much better read the manuscript was after getting it back from the copy editor. And wow, the content editor helped me see that I should whip a bunch of anecdotes into a unified whole. What a difference! Thank you! Oh, and Oops, I think the links haven’t been added yet…
As an editor, when comparing content editing and copy editing, I think I prefer the latter option. Polishing a book for an author and catches typos is fun! Yes, I’m weird! But I’m okay with that. 😜😂 It’s also awesome to help bring the author’s vision to life through this stage of editing.
Thank you for breaking down the editing process. I’ve completed my rough draft and I’m working with my writing coach to polish each chapter before I move on to the next edit.
That's fantastic. The advantage of having a writing coach support you through this is that the content edit should be a lighter lift than if you hadn't had that guidance and support along the way!! Good luck! Cheering you on!!
Thank you. I figured out how I can remember the difference... n before p in the alphabet so co"n"tent before co"p"y. This helped the information to fall into place for me. Thanks, again. The video was helpful.
I don't really know how to answer that question ... print books have their value for certain things (like how do you autograph an ebook) but ebooks are portable and lower cost.
I learned so much from this one; thank you! I am still just beginning to learn about writing coaches; what is the writing coaches role in helping the author work through a copy at it? :-) 5:30
Great question. Our clients are paired with a writing coach to work through the content edit not the copy edit. The content edit is often requiring the author to move things around, add stories, explain things in more detail and it can be hard to navigate on your own. A writing coach can help guide the changes as well as provide some writing support. When a manuscript lacks clarity, a coach can be really valuable to talk it out and gain clarity.
Great info as always! Got to take a walk or decompress before looking at the reviews for sure. You do cold-plunging?? How's that going? Seen others do it but it's not something I'm willing try yet :D #NoBoringBooks #TH-camBestie fyi - sound volume was a little lower than usual in this video ;)
hmmm strange ... I'll have to see if something was adjusted somewhere in the process. Thanks for the heads up. And yes, I do cold plunging. I've been doing it since 2020 ... before it was all trendy. It's been AMAZING for my immune system and stress management. It's improved my sleep. I hate the cold but love the results.
Great insights, but needs spell checking! For example, at 2:03 the first bullet reads Well positioned to achive your goals. ACHIVE? Funny when a video about content editing needs content editing..... 😂🤣
haha there's another typo in that video I noticed after the fact too ... My video editor isn't a book editor and neither am I ... plus this one was running late soooo I'm just saying CONGRATS to anyone who finds the typos.

HAHAH this video has a typo in it too ... if I had an editor review my videos I'm sure they would have caught it when I missed it until it was live.

You should not pursue perfection -- but you should pursue excellence.
100%

HAHAH you're right! I totally forgot to do it. This video was late coming back from the editor ....I'll do that now. Thanks for letting me know. :)

It is where a book goes from good to great! :)

Excellent presentation, clarifies a lot!
I'm so glad!

That's great to hear!
What is the better book: traditional prints or e-prints?
