It looks like its cleaned up well . I have a friend with an old Toyota fork hoist with a leaky main ram. When you try lifting things the oil bypassing the main ram seals pops the dust seal out of the ram. I've had the mast at full extension and got on a step ladder and checked the shaft for rust or damage and its good so hopefully it will just need a seal kit fitted after a good clean. I've told him to stop using it before it blows the seal properly and drops by its self. Its just plain dangerous. I'll be a good friend and pull the ram and clean it strip it so he can send it into the local hydraulic shop and have it inspected and get a quote or estimate. Its funny you never know how many friends you have until you own a tandem car trailer or a 2 post clear floor hoist. LOL Nice repair job Alan.
Yeah no doubt, but fairly common to let your employees use it at least here in Europe. Would be a horrid work environment if you could not trust a person to behave while also expanding their knowledge

Hey Alan a trick I learned from a hydraulic mechanic was to lube the seal go on easier was to take a blue paper shop towel and make a pad then apply a thin film of hydraulic oil to the metal and inside of the seal if it is a hydraulic rod seal.
What's not to like? I click on like 'before' watching your videos. Keep doing what you do and giving us fans a little access to your problem-solving brain.
Wizards always on point! Helo-drone don't want that fat-paws fatal punch 👊! Nice work Allen, taking pride in what you do, puts ya in front row, that itself is a lost art these days...💪👍🤠
Allan, at 16:25 your right hand on that metal? See the tapered end? This is when you should have put the seals on, that's probably why that end was tapered. Would not have had to use screwdrivers imo.
You need a place for seals fast ,it’s called( o rings and thing’s )hydraulic shop, it right across the street on the east side of the California speedway in Fontana , they have everything for hydraulics, thanks BigAl California.
Man now that was a wrestling match for sure but you got it on and what a job. JB Cold Weld is a name from the past as used it on my car radiator when it leaked and did the job. Funny it did not work on my Mitsubishi rad as leaking through it. No idea if it goes off as was stiffer to mix and tried 2 places and no longer in stock. I love the way nothing fazes you Alan and keep on going and punching the drone was so funny. Keep it up M8 as there is only " The Wizard "
Can use a bit of fishing line or string to slip under a lubed ring seal. Tug it around and back to get em in. Schnazzy lookin Ram ya got there champski!
I just have to re-Enforce what others have said. Love listening to your description and your ability to actually do the job. Good of Heavy D to let you work in the shop and use the shop tools. Go Alan the Wizzard!
Next time try putting the big seals and backing rings on before you assemble the piston to the shaft since you can move the inner seal over the reduced diameter of the inner end of the piston.
Next time you need to stretch a seal around a ram. I suggest a "wilde hook tool" generally used for installing the rubber seal for truck windows. Good luck!
Alan I enjoyed this video, a suggestion if I may, I watch a machinist/welder over in Australia, Kurtis & Karen from "Cutting Edge Engineering," he rebuilds Rods, Pistons and Seal Kits almost every day, I've seen him installing the OD Seals & their Backups many times, he uses 'plenty of oil' and takes a smaller O-Ring placing it under the replacement seal then folds it over then slides his finger tip through the two loops pulling the replacement O-Ring over all the ridges sliding the looped O-Ring around the backup until it's in its place for its purpose 'eliminating the sharp edges of the screw drivers making it much less likely to tear the new seals,' I hope this helps you with this job the next time you rebuild a piston on a rod. BE & Stay Well my friend.
This video couldn't come at a better time as I am stuck in bed starting today with a cellulitis infection in my left calf. Drs orders elevate the leg and try not using it as much.
23:44 Can you use a length of thin wire or fishing line to pull the backing ring on? Or heat it up a bit, so that it will temporarily soften/deform, to make it much easier to install?
why i preheat seals in hot hydrolic fluid & put seals on b4 i put it on.. easier when put on from otherside b4 assembly brother.. but heating seals helps @max operating temp fluid.. for preheat seals
I want to see him to complete rebuild on John deer. Or couple of his miltary trucks an ambulance. And whip out paint ball gun an Wipeout the helicopter lol
Seal IDEA included: - Yes you can! You are "The Alan Master Tech Wizz". So ... sure you can at least fix it for a 100% or even improve stuff?!? I mean...you can do anything Alan. As long as you want it. You could even grow your own offspring from a bag man...you can do literally anything. ;) For the seals, could you have warmed them up in hot water from a watercooker? And than try them on with good suitable gloves ofc...but they wont stay hot for long btw.? So expanding hot to decreasing cold...the option? Just not with a direct flame, but hot water...
I really hate tight o-rings and hoses like that. You want to use plenty of silicone oil to make your life a little easier. Good job though, looks really good.
Allen u need to find a young kid to mentor. All ur knowledge can't go to waste. Ur a dying breed my friend.
i get so excited when i get a WIZARD alert.. ALLEN the LEGEND

Always interesting watching you problem solve!
Very generous of Sparks to allow use of the shop!
Yeah no doubt, but fairly common to let your employees use it at least here in Europe. Would be a horrid work environment if you could not trust a person to behave while also expanding their knowledge
It's good to be on Dave Sparks's tribe! Said it a million times😂!
This is a good bunch of Men.
free security was my excuse
My dad was a roofing contractor for over 50 years this new materials is awesome compared to how we did work with
nice custom mad wrench fore the end cap

More fun Alan. Looks good too. Been waiting for a new video so was glad to see this one pop up!
Good work Alan, you could try soaking the rings in warm oil before trying to fit them, it will make them stretch a little more easily over the piston.
Another masterpiece. Thank you, Sir. The video is much appreciated. I'll be looking forward to the next installment....
❤ I enjoy you do things.
Allen you are pretty quick . i love it Punch the copter

YES
I would have tried to put that backing ring and seal on from the back.
Then assembled and installed the front seal and backing ring.
With the big chamfer on the piston, obviously that would have been the piece-of-cake way to do it.
Good one brother hydraulics are a pain some times but ya got r done and didnt cut no corners great job
Great job Alan 👏, 👏.
Glad you were able to get the seals and install them. Nice catching the missing grease fittings.
always work to be done and not enough time that why every one needs a wizard great work

Go full mad max and put a new radiator outside ! Awesome work as always !!!
Can we get a short bio of "The Story of Allen the Wizards life"? Keep up the great knowledgable content!!
You building a Fortress. Can easily rebuild a ram😊
Good job on the ram, but that rad sounds like a real pain. Wish you luck with it Alan 👍
Man now that was a wrestling match for sure but you got it on and what a job.

HI ALAN YOU DO GOOD JOB WELL DONE I AM LEARING SO MUCH FROM THE THINGS YOU ARE DOING THANKS FOR THAT GREATINGS
5:42 ALSO?? The BESt way to keep track of which cylinders have been repaired! :)
Next time you have to add seals try putting them into some oil & heat them up (causing them to stretch) - they will go on easier.
Thanks I love seeing the meticulous mechanic work
21:40. Use a plastic gallon milk jug for a seal saver install tool.
Can use a bit of fishing line or string to slip under a lubed ring seal. Tug it around and back to get em in.
Schnazzy lookin Ram ya got there champski!
It may be the intention that the first seal is placed on the other side (piston side). Before you slide the pistoblock onto the piston 15:55
YES see that taper on the piston?
Nothing like a good customised tool 👌
Sound is good now!. Good progress!
I just have to re-Enforce what others have said. Love listening to your description and your ability to actually do the job. Good of Heavy D to let you work in the shop and use the shop tools. Go Alan the Wizzard!
You "Wizardized" that shaft!
Never was a fan of Hyd repair ! Thanks for sharing !
I noticed the inside vacuum seal was twisted, that's why it wasn't flush and flat but I am sure you noticed it Alan
Another informative video! I never thought I'd sit & watch this kind of content, it's fascinating!
Next time try putting the big seals and backing rings on before you assemble the piston to the shaft since you can move the inner seal over the reduced diameter of the inner end of the piston.
Try using brake fluid to clean radiator before epoxy.
Soak your wiper seal in really hot but not boiling water for a few mins. Backing ring pour the boiling kettle on it.
Great job, Allen! I'm looking forward to seeing you reinstall the hydraulic ram back on your John Deere excavator. You are a talented guy, my friend!
best is to boil the gaskets in hydraulic oil so they become softer Then they are easier to put on
Next time you need to stretch a seal around a ram. I suggest a "wilde hook tool" generally used for installing the rubber seal for truck windows. Good luck!
Keep up the great work God bless you and your crew and your families. In God bless the diesel Brothers
I've seen people put the seals it hot water to make them more malleable and they expand some
That first red seal took the scenic route when it could have taken the express way
We all love your Channel respect ❤
Allen , you always do a great job on everything you fabricate .You always amaze me .
very nice job ive had problems with older equipment before like that good luck
Great job,
Your skills and ingenuity are just endless… 👍
Great Job Alan!! Look forward to install
Alllen use some hydraulic oil on your seals as you are putting them on
admirable perseverance, our best Allan...full advance some more, bud!
YOU Have The Patience Of Job!!! ❤❤
Great work as always wizard! That'll look great back on the machine 👌 👏 💪😎
Clean the radiator with brake parts cleaner spray before you jb weld.
Thanks for feeding my brain Mr Wizard👊😁🙏🇺🇸😎
fluid on rings to help them slide ,screwdriver gonna stretch them out.
That took a lot of knowledgeable work!
Nice work Wizard
Always look forward to you videos 😀👍❤️❤️❤️

Outstanding tip indeed.
Ol boy has it figuerd!
HAHAHAHA that copter! GREAT video and GREAT crew as usual :)
Great video. Waiting for more.
Nicely done, Alan!
This video couldn't come at a better time as I am stuck in bed starting today with a cellulitis infection in my left calf. Drs orders elevate the leg and try not using it as much.
Next time heat up the seal in hydraulic oil. They will go on much easier!
Can you make a custom tool to remove the radiator bolts?
Nice work Alan
23:44 Can you use a length of thin wire or fishing line to pull the backing ring on? Or heat it up a bit, so that it will temporarily soften/deform, to make it much easier to install?
Good morning yes sir you can fix it
Copper pipe would make a crush ring.
For the o-ring, can't you use a string under it and just pull, maybe with some oil in it?
why i preheat seals in hot hydrolic fluid & put seals on b4 i put it on.. easier when put on from otherside b4 assembly brother.. but heating seals helps @max operating temp fluid.. for preheat seals
Should have warmed up some hydraulic fluid in a pan and soaked the seals in it to install them
thanks Alan
bend em 4' and weld em together. The mig will make short work of it.
fascinating. how much your knowledge inpires work arounds. hope along with the steel your looking for ya also get a blasting expert. God bless
GOOD JOB!
I would be a little nervous of dissimilar metal aluminum and steel. I’ve had experience with them.
You should have slipped the rings over some plastic pallet straps and used them to work the rings across..
Great job Allan.
Next time heat the ring enough to expand it a little but not too much to damage the seal.
Reach out to cornfield Customs for bending the 1/4 plate.
He might be able to help.
Question. Did you blow tack and static before paint
Put the stupid seals in warm on the hot side of oil they will stretch from the heat. No muss no fuss😅😅 ~~Cris h.😊😊
I want to see him to complete rebuild on John deer. Or couple of his miltary trucks an ambulance. And whip out paint ball gun an Wipeout the helicopter lol
Do it right, drop the counter weight!
Have you ever tried the string method to get a ring on? I've seen it online but never had a change to try it
Take care be safe 🙏.
Alan, we need a background video. What’s your story?
It would have been easier to put that inner/upper seal on before you put that end piece on.
Seals Fun!
i forgot what happened to your face on your right cheek looks like it is healing up good
Shoulda grabbed yer Backing ring stretcher ..
I'm confident that you have one? Idk
Might of got lost in the fire😢
