volume of cylinder is V = πr²h r=2.5415 ft h=6.75 ft V= 136.97 ft^3 Density of concrete ranges quite a lot it seems, but we'll go with 140-150 lb/ft^3 for "normal concrete" So probably weighs between 19175lbs - 20546 lbs.
The 4440 is a quad range transmission. A-B-C-D are the ranges with four forward and two reverse gears in each range. Stop to change between ranges and use the clutch to shift between the 2-3 shift. The 1-2, 3-4 and r1-r2 shifts can be made without clutching. Also when it is hard to start you can turn the wheel back and forth while cranking and it will relieve hydraulic pressure in the pump and make it easier to start.
Cleet, the 4440 is one of the all time greatest John Deeres ever made. It was the highest HP machine made by JD and still have a 540 PTO. Also, the 466T was one of the best engines ever made. You seriously have a classic on your hands.
I appreciate that Cleetus invited Mike to hangout with them trying to start the tractor. He always makes sure to be respectful to his elders, include them in his projects, and listen to their wisdom. Unfortunately that is something that is not very common anymore. Keep it up Cleet!
Most people take elders for granted. We can get most answers to any questions within seconds from our fingertips, but old timers have experience and wisdom that just can't be learned from some internet Google answer. I believe cleetus knows this as well. On top of that he has to be one of the most genuine, good hearted youtubers.
I am Commercial Multi Engine Instrument, Commercial Rotorcraft/Helicopter, Private Single Engine Seaplane Pilot from Oregon. Owned my house on a 2250' lighted grass strip which I shared with 23 other homeowners. Mowed the airstrip regularly with an old Massey Ferguson tractor. We had a steel roller, but nothing like your concrete roller. It does my heart good to see you out there loving the experience just as much as I did when I was younger. Im now 67 and not flying anymore but all my flying memories are the best memories! Keep it up!
you always find the old guys who want to hang out with you. You are cheering them up with the stuff you do and listening to their stories. Don't change Cleetus and cleetus crew.
Honestly one of my favourite parts of this channel, I love the cars and stuff, but the respect for their elders and letting them hang out just creates such a great vibe.
I just love jackstands involvement, always there to help, always supportive, and has always seemed to be by Cleets side, he was a massive part in going 7s and obviously Zach and Tye have come in since but jackstand still stands by cleets side in anything he needs help for, he plays such a massive part in the channel, and I always love to see him involved
As someone who collects and restores antique tractors I would absolutely love to see those two tractors restored as original as possible. They are such amazing pieces of machine history, it would be sweet to watch them both continue to be used on the airport looking and running like brand new! Also to note the 4440 was made from 1978-1982 and made roughly 112hp, and the 2440 was made from 1976-1982 and made roughly 50hp.
I had a 1948M JD and a 70s 1010 JD. Both gas. Used them here on my homestead for years. Got a diesel 4400 Ford loader and sold the old girls. Miss them.....
I was just driving a 4440 yesterday. They are 130 PTO HP/112 drawbar hp. My experience driving them is that, like many other tractors, they have lots of low-end torque and probably ~500 ft-lbs peak torque. Low gearing, weight on the drive wheels, and grip let you pull lots of weight like that. Cleet should probably driving in the B-range with that rig so he can get a reasonable amount of speed in B2 if he needs, but be able to start off in B1. No need to clutch between 1-2 or 3-4 makes it easy to keep going with that weight between shifts. He needs a second battery and new cables too. They originally came with a couple 6V batteries in series, one under the step on each side, and that gives you enough cranking amps to turn that big engine over properly. Those old tractors would also probably feel a lot better/use less fuel revving at 1800 rpm instead of rated engine speed, but I guess that's not why any of us watch Cleet either lol.
JD 4440 is great tractor one of the best . Do not forget to clean all that grass off that mower and keep it clean and do not leave that grass piled on it, it will cause it to rust faster, and grease it before every use if fittings do not take grease clean unclog or replace . If you get all fittings working and give it a pump see it move everytime before starting you will not have to worry and bearings will work and last a long time! With them sitting awhile you would benifit from having them all serviced oil change , filters oil ,fuel and hydralics and checked out, then you will know they are ready to go and you can get them on maintance schedule. That will make them start and run better and last longer. Also blow out the air screen and filter after every use, change when needed. If you do not blow them out filters will not last long and will not run as good and could cause issues. If you do not have to do not use either, once addicted they will require it to start . So try not to use it, except when air gets in fueline, filter change or a leak! I know I made allot of suggestions you probablly already know but you would be surprized how many people do not do it! If you want them to last forever maintance schedule and other suggestions will be a must!
I doubt those tractors will see any love in their future except if maybe one of the guys on the strip decides to do it themselves.. the money buddies got i doubt he’s worried at all about any maintenance or upkeep on those machines.. plus he’s got plenty of crap going on to keep the content goblins happy for a while so don’t think a video about overhauling old tractors is in the forecast.. so just pray the rust gods hold off on the things for the sake of tractor lovers who watch the channel..
Do not stand anywhere near those mowers when they are running. I have seen rocks being thrown out of them like cannonballs and broken blades are really nasty also.
So youve got 4 ranges A,B,Cand D and then park. Then R1-R2, 1-2, N, 3-4. R1 and R2 can be shifted between without clutching. Just move the leaver left and right. 1 and 2 can be shifted between without clutching and 3 and 4 can be shifted between without clutching. We never shifted ranges on the move so pick the one you need and go with it. But once in a range you can clutch and shift from the 1-2 to the 3-4 while on the run. The yellow lever on the left of the steering wheel is your pto. I grew up driving a 4055, 4440, 4640, and a 4750 those are some awesome tractors.
@@TheGrahamReaper21 Kinda, with that roller being 20k+ He's really a limit for that tractor. 3,400 ft. In 4 minutes is 9.5 mph. He really needs to be starting in B range to get that lower ratio starting off then shift up to 4th. He can do the same speed in C range in 3rd or 4th depending on RPM which isn't ideal.
It's been 40 years since I did any farm work with tractors but if I remember right, the bushhog takes more maintenance than the tractors. We were using 1930s tricycle front end farm tractors and we were mowing brush on 2nd, 3rd and 4th year sprouts, though. The rough terrain and brush was hard on the brushhogs. Maybe that airport runway is a lot easier on everything including the tractor, the mower and the operator.
I love your post but I just want to add to your tricycle comment. That's actually called a Row Crop it's designed for churning the dirt into a V like a small ditch and it keeps the rows straight. That's why the tires are on an angle.
Keep the RPMs of the JD 2440 at 2100 when cutting the grass to keep the PTO at the required 540 RPMs. That is a must! Additional, stay off the clutch on both tractors, don't rest your foot on it and don't rev the engine that high to get the tractor to move; use a lower gear to get moving or the clutch will not last long otherwise. Check the gear oil in the gearbox on the bush hog too. A lot of those leak and need to be refilled all the time. That is all. :) Mahindra 1526 HST 4WD & Mahindra 6075 PST 4WD in NW Alabama. My 6075 will drag a fully-loaded dump truck around in the mud like a Tonka toy.
Judging from the pool of oil under that mower it needs to be checked regularly. These guys need a grease gun too for both of those tractors and implements. Check oil, check coolant, grease all the fittings, THEN go have fun!
The mower tractor you have was a well known 2440 series. 1976-1982 generation years. What makes this one so cool is the rear orchard fenders. These fenders now days are pretty rare to find. They are sheet metal fairings that allowed branches to deflect and slide off rather than catch. The 2440 is well known in the fruit and vineyard history. Love ya cleet
I am an Ag Leader installation tech, i autosteer all these tractors for a living, this tractor is super easy to setup and get autosteering so we can snap some perfect lines up and down the runway and make sure no spot gets missed
Jackstand is such a key asset to the channel. Love the friendship and wisdom they have. Such a great group of guys and team which is what makes them so successful and running like a well oiled machine. Cleet totally hit the jackpot with being able to buy the airfield, it will provide so much exciting content while also being able to build his dream home. Surround yourself with the right people, make them feel appreciated, and be able to go to work with your best friends everyday while continuing to keep rising and killing it. So much excitement in the pipe, between the airfield, the Camaro build, Leroy body and Consuela!
I love seeing Jackstand in the videos 👍, every now and then he seems to take a back seat, but when he’s there he always brings the laughing gas, pun very much intended 😅
Yep! Jackstand will always give me a smile on my face when he appears. He is really passionate about racing also and knows so much. Whenever he shows his face on a boostedboiz video as well, you can just feel the enthousiasm for the 4 bangers
lolol thats exactly what I was thinking when the video was over, "cleet just tricked me into watching him mow the grass for 20 minutes" and I still enjoyed it
Sod farmer here. Rolling grass is a very slow painstaking process. You want to go slow, really slow. The slower the better, but obviously if you went 2 mph you wouldnt get anything done. So 5 to 10 is the best but 10 mph is borderline too fast. Have fun! Wishing you a flat smooth grass runway!
Slow and Smooth guys like they are saying. Gotta have the right moisture. I seen that roller bouncing and that's leaving dents you will feel with your plane. NEVER DRIVE across your runway. It's hard to get the dips back out once they are there. Tip of the day .. Don't fry bacon in your boxer shorts. LoVe the effort and motivation
I just watched you guys cut grass and compact dirt for 22 minutes and still enjoyed it. 🤣 The airport is sick. I can't wait until we see the house you guys build. You guys need to do a way over edited "Cribs" episode when it's done.
Love the 4440! If you need any dirt work done or runway expansions! We were the guys moving earth right next door for the new group of hangers next to Game comp during your visit! Hollar if you have any questions and we would be glad to help!💪😎
On that 2440, the "foot throttle" you found is the "goose button". You set your throttle with the main throttle control by the steering wheel, and use that if you need a short burst of more throttle to get yourself through some mud or up a hill or something like that. Also, on both of them, the two pedals to the right are your brakes. They're independent for each wheel to help you get tighter turns. That thing that connects the two helps you brake uniformly with both wheels.
@@cs-gj3yf goose button isn't the deere name either. It describes the function of the button. It's not meant to be used continually and it's near impossible to maintain a certain throttle level with it, especially on bumpy terrain.
@@martrg1 that's cause of deeres design for it, ford tractors are the same way, go order parts for one and you'll see its stated by deere to be a foot operated throttle
Am I the only one who wants to see the 4440 as a new project? That JD is an absolute Unit and deserves new life! My grandaddy had 2 back in TX and seeing her rumble to life in this video made me smile from ear to ear!
My neighbor got a 2240 that he bought from another neighbor I helped with farm work for 10 years. Was an absolute unit. Ran hard with little maintenance and rarely a issue. Still running strong.
The John Deere 4440 was apart of the Iron Horse series of tractors. 144 HP, it was extremely popular (and still is) as it is a beast of a unit! When people say "nothing runs like a deere" this is the tractor they are thinking of. It was made between 1978 and 1982. John Deere made two variants, one with a cab, and one without. The one with a cab is the most popular. The tag should be rivited somewhere on the back near the 3 point. The John Deere 4440 has a 16 speed semi-power shift transmission. 16 gears forward, and 6 gears in reverse. If properly maintained, that tractor will outlast your children. Take care of it, and it will continue to perform.
@@dougb27 Yes. The John Deere "Quad Range" transmission found in several of their tractors, including the 4440 is a semi-powershift or "partial" powershift transmission. Four gears (1-4) in four ranges (A-D). Power shift between pairs 1-2 and 3-4 in each range, with synchronized shift between 2-3. Two reverses in ranges A-C. Tractor must be stopped, and clutch used, to shift ranges. Power shift is provided by a hydraulically-controlled planetary that provides an overdrive to each gear. I don't mean to argue, as we are both right. But yeah, still a great tractor with a great transmission!
Biggest business inspiration to watch everyday. Cleet is doing it in a VERY unselfish way. He takes care of his people/ (probably why no one ever leaves)
@KnifeFiend you got to take care of your crew that's literally the only way it should be done. Easily one of the reasons he's so succefull besides his work ethic.
18500 lbs roughly. I am a quality control manager for a cement plant and the is roughly 5.1 yards of cement. Cement is roughly 3600lbs a yard, so it's roughly 18500lbs. That depends on the mix but it would be a good estimate.
worked at a summer camp around 2013.. it had a ford N-series tractor from the 30's or 40's.... still turned over like it was brand new every time. i felt like i watched a time capsule ever time the ground keeper used it. grounds keeper was 98ish when he passed.. he was older than the tractor by about 17 years-ish.. Bud was a great guy, went through multiple wars, including WW2, Korean war, and Vietnam. craziest/ nicest/ most "one off" guy iv ever met. ( still have that $2 bill you gave me Bud, RIP man)
Your guess of 10 tons was amazingly close. Take care of that 4440 do not forget to cover that exhaust. That's a real gem. Wish there was 12 months of freedom. Great video as usual keep em coming!
The heritage of that airfield needs to be told. I really hope you do a history oriented video series on everyone that worked on the creation of that field and the people who have worked there over the years, and continue to work there. You can tell there is some seriously rich history in Bald Eagle Airfield - can't wait to see the Bald Eagle Nest when its finally done!
Those tractors are minty, love 'em. The 4440 was made from 78 to 82 and they sold a bunch of them. They weigh about 12000 pounds, have about 110 hp at the drawbar and use 4-5 gallons an hour when working. That era was still peak John Deere before all the recent silliness of trying to stop people from owning their stuff. My dad's farm never had stuff that big or that new, but I personally loved anything with green paint. :)
Green & Yellow Tractors are the best! That bucket over the exhaust to keep the rain out is essential. We used to keep a coffee can in the toolbox on the old B Models and Super 60 we had... Whenever it was parked outside without us being there the coffee can was on...
Without knowing the exact composition of the concrete, it's difficult to say exactly how much it weighs. Density can be anywhere from 1.2 tons per cubic meter to 2.9, with about 2.4 being probably the most common. Roller is 2m by 1.55m cylinder, so 3.64m cubed; therefore roller is minimum 4.4 tons (9700lbs), maximum 10.5 tons (23,000lbs), most likely around 8.7 tons (19,000lbs). I reckon there's probably about 300 kilos (660lbs) of steel in there too, maybe more like 450kg (1000lbs). Difficult to guess without measurements but I reckon it's about 10m (33ft) of 10mm (3/8ths) I-beams, plus the tubes and stuff. So around 20,000lbs total...ish Cleeter and Squirrel restore the 4440? Would be hilarious to see a Project Prime wrap on that bad boy. Probably want some grass tires on her, so she don't tear up the runway as much as she flattens it.
I figure you are pretty close. Roughly 6x6x6, that’s around 8 yards of concrete, rounded off probably closer to 7 yards. Concrete weighs around 4k per yard dry, so 4x7= 28 thousand pounds, or 14 tons.
Based on the average of 150lbs per square foot. Finding the volume of the cylinder comes to 136.99 cubic feet. Multiply that and you get the 20548.5 pounds. The weight of the steel probably puts it close to 22000 pounds.
@@knight838_ Yeah, I mean, it all comes down to guessing the density of the concrete, which can be quite a wide range. I dunno about you but I reckon 22,000 is close enough to call it "about 20,000".
Love an old JD. But, as someone who mows with something similar. Please clear the grass off the deck when you’re done. That PTO gearbox gets HOT and can start a fire. Been there done that. On the flip side of that, when it rains and the clippings get wet they’ll hold moisture and cause the deck to rust out. So keep it clean and you don’t need to worry about either cause and affect.
Wow. Those are some solid old tractors. Your so fortunate to have those for your airfield. Please dont modify or change them. Just do a bit of restoration and maintain them and use them. I enjoyed seeing the old tractors working more than the other toys.
Mike and all the fellas at the field are going to LOVE the boys , and Cleet inviting them to come along . Those guys are living the dream you can see it in their faces.
Btw to add to my previous comment, I think you and the guys at the shop should give that old girl a makeover. Bring her back to her former glory. And that 2440 grove tractor is sweet too.
If you do a restoration, do it to factory specs. Good enough is perfection for that kind work vehicle. She's lasted this long and I'm guessing she'll last a good many more years.
Former airport maintenance and "Aerodrome reporting officer / Works Safety officer". There's a lot of detail in maintaining and owning an airport. The FAA should have a manual that lists all of the requirements in design and maintenance. You previously mentioned trimming the trees off the ends of the runway to get more usable length, but just as you have requirements for maximum allowed glide slope there are also requirements for obstacle heights off the sides of the runway. We had a surveyor do his thing and he noticed a radio antenna was too tall and infringed on the runways airspace. This was past a large grass area, past the large apron and at the back of the terminal building next to a large tree. It was only JUST over height and we added it to the airport obstacle chart. But that side slope was something i had to think about when we had major works happening. Things like parking the excavator with its boom layed down low or parked further away from the runway. I'd recommend replacing those old runway markers with proper cones. Then you can let the grass grow back around them and it will look so nice. I'd also stock up on taxiway and unserviceable cones. They will come in very handy when you are ready for a fly in. A trick with the cones that you can't or dont want to peg into the ground, fill a sandbag to ¼ full, cut a hole in the top of the cone and thread the sandbag up through it. Tie a big knot so the sandbag sits just above the ground. So easy to move about and works on sealed surfaces, of course the cones won't stack afterwards unless you remove the sandbag. And the sandbag is still frangible so won't hurt the prop any more than the fibreglass cone will. Definitely get some amber beacon lights for all the vehicles that work airside and PLEASE clean that grass off the mower. Aside from holsing moisture, its a major fire risk. The bearings and gearboxs can heat up and ignite the grass. It'll take some effort now, but a battery air blower should make easy work of it if you do it right after every time you finish mowing. Oh and maybe a longer term project, but look into subsoil and subsurface watering systems. Basically leaky pipes that deliver water directly to the roots. A couple of burried moisture sensors could then control them so you always have the best looking grass.
I have never been so engrossed in reading such a lengthy comment that had nearly nothing to do with my life. Lol That was super educational and fascinating even to me, who will never need that knowledge. Thanks for sharing! The community here is always so awesome. You're an awesome person for sharing!
Love to see Mike getting involved in helping Cleeter McSkeeter get things up and running! Love seeing these old heads getting the respect they deserve. 🫡
I think garret (cleeter mcskeeter) will go into history as the great humanitarian, not only does he revive old racetracks, cars, tractors, airports but he prolongs the lives of just about everyone he knows. Sam is the testament to that as #1 but mike is going to be #2 in that line. We also work 8 to ? hours a day but in our off time we watch other people work, what a fascinating time to be alive!!! Garret keep being you brother you are the king of man!!!
No lie Im 39 and back when I was about 10 my grandpa sat me on a 4640 which is very similar to what you have there. I ran a do all over every inch of our farm in it and it never ever gave a f. Thanks for bringing back suppressed child labor filled memories!!
Who else wants a live feed camera at The Bald Eagle Airfield for viewing pleasure 👌😎. Build a nice tower platform somewhere for viewing pleasure and maybe some R/C Plane flying 😝👏. Throw in an irrigation system and that place will be a dreamland 🥰
I have a soft spot for old deere tractors. In case you hadnt figured it out already they 4440 takes 2 batteries. Put 2 new ones on it and it will fire right up. Those things are solid and that is a nice bush hog. I bet you could pick up a multi gang reel mower like golf courses use to cut the runway when needed and it would look spectacular.
@@numlockkilla that's what I'm saying. Extra income, just for showing things that are gonna happen anyway. Pop a camera on the tractor, and do laps on the runway.
PLEASE as an old farmer from Idaho PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT EVER try to start while standing on the ground!!! Can't tell you how many people that have been run over while doing that. Just a little safety tip because I like you guys so much and care about your safety!!
Brings back memories, I can't tell you how many hours I spent driving a 4430, same as your 4440, with the quad shift. I absolutely love how reliable those old engines are!!!! By the looks of the oil filter, (right next to the dipstick) I would say its time for an oil change, too
Those tractors deserve some TLC. You are going to need them for some time to come. I can see the roller tractor (the 4440?) with a stars and stripes paint job and a big ass Bald Eagle on it! Go for it! I can't wait to see the transformation of that place with the house and all the stuff to follow...I'm excited for you.
The John Deere 4440 was made between 1978-82 in Waterloo, Iowa. It came in two variants, the 4440 and 4440 Hi-Crop. Powered by a 7.6l 6 cylinder diesel engine outputting 112hp (drawbar) and 130hp (PTO). You can get a better idea of the year depending on the serial number and axle size, 86mm for '79 and 92mm '79 onwards. The last serial number of the first year of production was 010329.
To say is in so many times I see is greatness in the works. Untimely dedication to this. It's your being to always to go do something right? Well young man you are in the realm. You have so many around you and truly you are in the wheelhouse of admiration and love. So many folks around you so dedicated in sharing their intelligence and being humble.
Just love how jackstand has hung with cleet these last few years and hasn’t tried to go off on his own to make his own channel like coop. Props to jackstand!! No hate to coop either just saying props to jackstand with the trust in cleet!
I agree with you but I don’t think Jackstand would be real interested in making his own channel. I’m sure he sees the hours cleet puts in and doesn’t envy that a whole lot having a family and racing on the side.
100% you should do a mini series on restoring the tractors. Those things are so cool. I really wish I was from the era where everything was about quality and not greed.
Cleet I am a field tech at a JD dealer up in Canada hit me up if you ever have any questions or if the guys ever need service info down the road. Also I highly recommend setting that unit up with an auto track system it will make whoever operates the tractor so much easier. Will let you track the tractor straight and set up your spacing so that you never miss any areas of the runway. Personally I’d recommend an ATU 300 and then you would also need a display and receiver the current models are G5 plus universal for the display and starfire 7000 receiver
I think it is one of three things: James either has a lot of faith in his own reaction time, a lack of concern for his own well-being, or he figures that if something happens it will get a lot of views. Besides, if he gets smooshed Cleet will rebuild him with a big block and twin turbskies.
Same here.. If they are doing that to get comments blowing up, I'm falling for it. Too many people died in the same situations. Hope they tighten up on that.
@@michaelkennedy2528I started out with an International BD414 when I was about 12 - 13 years old, 50 something years ago and that was the one and only thing I was given as a hard and fast rule…. Everything else was just advice. The eldest lad on the next door farm lost both legs doing exactly that about two years earlier, he’d survived but only just and plenty of good farmers have died that way over the years. The other thing that freaked me out was when the mower got spun up with at least the camera guy obviously right beside it. As far as I’m concerned I don’t want anyone within 50 yards, minimum, when rotating machines are running. I’ve seen too many rocks heading for the boundary, to say nothing about blade pivot bolts going awol or old blades cracked at the pivot eye, either way it’s a fast exit for a blade at ankle level. One last thing, it would pay them to get a grease gun on the PTO UJ’s pronto, again, they can get a bit too exciting when they let go and they’ve got no real idea of when they last saw lube. I give mine a pump about every 25 hrs and pull the shaft halves to lube the inner shaft about every 50 hrs.
I think everyone here would love to see some TLC given to those tractors. Nothing crazy but some fresh paint, fluid changes, some new parts, and a good clean I bet these things would look young again.
Never did I think I would be watching a video about property upkeep. and have a smile on my face the entire time. I'm looking forward to watching this place grow
Cleetus is an old man in a young man’s body. I respect the desire to keep long running traditions going with everything u do like the freedom factory, BE Airport, the cars etc. Have fun with the aiport cleetus, it deserved an owner who cares about its history and community
i dont think a more perfect channel exists for me. we started with cars, then we had planes and helicopters, now were running damn tractors! what a ride
I can't believe how much I am smiling during this video. Cleet and Jackstand mowing and rolling grass was great. Brings back many memories of life on our land brush hogging when I was a young lass.
The 2440 is a 50 hp john deere tractor and an excellent tractor. Owned one and kept a 25 acre pasture cut for my dad's horses. Used a bush hog behind it so I could clear brush and small trees and bushes in the woods. Great tractor.
Never have i ever thought that i'd see farming stuff on this channel. I'm DIGGING it soo much. Please make this once Monthly thing or something. Definintely would like to see more of that!
this is the progression i was waiting for, i started following this channel and im not a car guy, but cleet made me enjoy cars, but doing tractor work, out in the open field now this is the real deal hahaha. love it. i'll defintely buy a cleetus & jackstand john deere inspired merch.
Gotta have some drone shots of them tractor action. Also please do a full maintenance service on them. Replace all fluids, few battery cables, belts, all basic stuff. They are solid units.
You two guys were like little boys when you got the Deeres running……. Never seen you or Jackstand have so much fun and you two were all smiles….. that will be a treasured video in my book……😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love that he keeps the original people around!!!! They are so authentic and make the videos so much better!! The older gentleman probably has so much knowledge of how that place runs.
I've landed on dozens of grass runways in the US, and this is by far the flattest and best maintained one I've seen in Florida. Florida's real tough for keeping a good flat runway with all the rain.
Ole Vice Grip Derek is the resident tractor specialist. Hes a guru of all things JD Green, IH, New Holland, etc... great looking strip now!! The old 4440 is likely one of the best units a guy could ask for...
Based on the measurements in the video, the concrete calculator I use to estimate concrete jobs puts it at 6.74 cubic yards, 24,193.42 lbs. That’s not accounting for the steel bar going through it or the frame that’s just for a solid concrete cylinder.
Don’t forget he also has a staff of workers down the road at the freedom factory, and a lawn care nut friend to help with the maintenance. So they’re probably really happy about having a professional crew on it.
2440 has orchard/grove fenders and exhaust. Pretty rare options. 4440 not starting hot, it's going to need and injection pump rebuild. From the way it looks, its due. Healthy batteries and starters are a must for John Deere tractors. They like to be spun fast to start. Two great tractors though, they both deserve a paint job with real JD paint. You'll really be proud to own them then.
you need to get McFarland Fab putting together a water sprayer trailer for that poor grass, get a trash pump to fill it up from the lake next door and get to spraying.
I really hope to see a video of you guys restoring these two tractors! Those things are worth their weight and gold look at the cost of new ones worth keeping forever!
Love how anything with a motor gets these guys wound up. I too would be like a kid at Christmas with that tractor. Now to complete the airport they need an old rubber tire backhoe to dig up some stuff with. Fun all day !!
can confirm, my neighbor across the street uses it for moving his bale trailer that will make a DOT officer sweat from how overloaded it is, then my neighbor to the south uses his to turn his 15’ bush hog for his cow pasture. both upgraded to something newer and more comfortable for actually working their crops, but theres not a shortage of people still using them for crops
Still run a 4440 and 4850. That 4440 looks like a quad range. ABCD is range from low to high. Second lever 1234 is gears for each range. 1-2 no clutch needed and 3-4 no clutch. Clutch 2-3. Small pedal between clutch and LR brakes is the diff lock. That’s was 2 6 volts in series. Looks like a 12v conversion. Probably will never use it on the flat ground. Great tractor and have fun!
Get that seed off the top of the mower. It will hold moisture and make it rust oit faster. Also make sure to checkntje gearbox oil on the mower as well.

Hell yeah brother!🇺🇸
20,550 (approximate) weight for the concrete cylinder
The density of that specofic concrete is a factor... but that's a good approximation.
volume of cylinder is V = πr²h r=2.5415 ft h=6.75 ft
V= 136.97 ft^3
Density of concrete ranges quite a lot it seems, but we'll go with 140-150 lb/ft^3 for "normal concrete"
So probably weighs between 19175lbs - 20546 lbs.
The hero we needed
That’s nearly dead on with his guess of 10 tons
So cleetus was about right, about 10 tons
Cleets saviour
Ha, I used the same density. 19178lbs
Now we're talking!! Those old 4440s are solid

@@Matt-vg1fp maybe a 4440 could rip some crazy burnouts with the correct engine 🤔
Barney Rubble comin atcha!...... POW!!!
You know it, those old Deere's are great!
I was going to say the same about rocking the steering wheel. Beat me to it LOL. Great job on explaining the gearing too 👍🏽
These old rigs are so cool, I guess that's why they're called the Power Shift. They definitely don't make them like they used to.
@@Mdudeman13 it's a Quad range. The powershift transmission will shift through all gears without clutch.

Cleet, the 4440 is one of the all time greatest John Deeres ever made. It was the highest HP machine made by JD and still have a 540 PTO. Also, the 466T was one of the best engines ever made. You seriously have a classic on your hands.
I grew up pulling a bean drill with one. It got refurbished let’s say 7 years ago after I left home. Great machines.

Hell it's even an open station 4440 without the soundgard cab
How much torque does the 4440 make to pull that massive concrete roller
If you want them to last forever maintance schedule and other suggestions will be a must!
you don't have to grease before every use - there should be a grease schedule in the manual for each fitting usually its like every 10 hours or so
You don't have to but grease is cheaper than bearings mate.@@littlepondfarm3488

Yeah they think race cars have hard clutch jobs, wait until they gotta split that 4440 in half.
That thing that connects the two helps you brake uniformly with both wheels.
its a foot throttle, deeres fancy names mean nothing
At least a quick respray and general service. It looks pretty decently maintained but it sure needs some lovin

My neighbor got a 2240 that he bought from another neighbor I helped with farm work for 10 years. Was an absolute unit. Ran hard with little maintenance and rarely a issue. Still running strong.
No ur not the only one
We all want it
The John Deere 4440 was apart of the Iron Horse series of tractors.
It’s not a powershift. It’s a quad range.
4440s are amazing tractors. It would also help if you had both batteries in.

18500 lbs roughly. I am a quality control manager for a cement plant and the is roughly 5.1 yards of cement. Cement is roughly 3600lbs a yard, so it's roughly 18500lbs. That depends on the mix but it would be a good estimate.
3600 yall doing them boys dirty son
I would expect there's some steel reinforcement in that thing, too. That would up the effective average density of the roller.

Your guess of 10 tons was amazingly close. Take care of that 4440 do not forget to cover that exhaust. That's a real gem. Wish there was 12 months of freedom. Great video as usual keep em coming!
I come up with 21,000 pounds. That's concrete at 4,050 pounds per cubic yard and the beams are about 8 pounds per foot. Cleet pretty much nailed it.
So around 20,000lbs total...ish
Cleeter and Squirrel restore the 4440? Would be hilarious to see a Project Prime wrap on that bad boy. Probably want some grass tires on her, so she don't tear up the runway as much as she flattens it.
I figure you are pretty close. Roughly 6x6x6, that’s around 8 yards of concrete, rounded off probably closer to 7 yards. Concrete weighs around 4k per yard dry, so 4x7= 28 thousand pounds, or 14 tons.
Aye, 6x6x6ft equates to 6m cubed, at 14 tons gives a density of 2.3 tons to a cubic meter, so same ballpark.
My mowing experience is using a push mower for my yard, but seeing the pile of clippings on that mower deck was driving me nuts.
Well said...im overly OCD and pull my deck every run to fully clean with a pressure washer. Original JD deck from '03, and she literally looks new.
Is it my imagination, but does Jackstand have the voice of Randy Travis? Wonder if he can sing.
Pretty rich voice.

@@yt45204 that's exactly what *ISN'T* needed. (And if that was _supposed_ to be a joke, then your sense of humor needs an overhaul.)

Maybe we can do some security in shifts as well 😄
I have a soft spot for old deere tractors.
Who would have thought in the early days of this channel, you'd ever see Cleetus and Jackstand mowin and rollin their own airprot? Amazing.
i know.... i started watching right before leroy was supercharged, weve come a LONG way
its mind blowing.
I like to see how you've been so friendly with the older established guys at the airport you bought!
Yes. You can tell Cleetus was raised right, and was taught to respect others. We need A LOT more like him in this world.
the cleetus2 channel should be filled with b-roll stuff like this. I'd watch the hell out of it and i'm probably not alone.
YES
Just keep it simple and keep everything on the main channel.
After Month of Freedom is over, the 2nd channel could become like Cleeter's version of VGG's "Vice Grip Lodge" channel. If he wanted it to.
Complete 2nd input stream like Colin furze
@@numlockkilla that's what I'm saying. Extra income, just for showing things that are gonna happen anyway. Pop a camera on the tractor, and do laps on the runway.
PLEASE as an old farmer from Idaho PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT EVER try to start while standing on the ground!!! Can't tell you how many people that have been run over while doing that. Just a little safety tip because I like you guys so much and care about your safety!!
They know what there doing u can to be on the ground lol
@@IssacVandenhurk-gl9vd screw around and find out lol
@@bullnoseferd3851 just saying they started right up they know what there doing
Yep. It happened down here in Western Australia only last year.
Farming equip.ent needs to be respected !
My Uncle may have helped make it. :D
Facts bro facts coop doesn't have the same breed of dawg in him comes of comes off as the don't eat in my car type
Cooper was bought out and “retired,” bub.
Wasn't what happened with Cooper 😂😂
Cooper sucks d for cash
I agree with you but I don’t think Jackstand would be real interested in making his own channel. I’m sure he sees the hours cleet puts in and doesn’t envy that a whole lot having a family and racing on the side.
100% you should do a mini series on restoring the tractors. Those things are so cool. I really wish I was from the era where everything was about quality and not greed.
2 grown men, around cool stuff all day long. As soon as the tractors come out the smiles are next level. We’re all big kids 🤣
Cleetus is the typa guy to put a 5 series monitor on a 4440 lol
James standing right in front of the tires while cleetus is just pushing pedals and levers got my anxiety shooting through the roof
or when he reached in to try and start it standing in front of the tire with no one in the cab.
@@turbo2ltr I have a CAse 580CK, pretty big girl too and that was the first piece of advise I got, do not start outside the cab in front of the tire.
I like all the dynamics, but something nice about a good ole Jackstand and Cleeter vid, just doing work like the early days
Cleetus buying an old run down airfield with a bunch of old guys in it gives the same vibes as lighting McQueen in radiator springs
Mike is such a cool guy, I am glad he is willing to be in the videos and likes to hang out.
With concrete averaging at around 150 pounds per cubic foot, this should weight about 20,535 pounds! So Cleet was almost spot on at 10 tons!
That's a square number not cylindrical object
It may well have been sold as a ten tonne roller then
Cleetus is an old man in a young man’s body. I respect the desire to keep long running traditions going with everything u do like the freedom factory, BE Airport, the cars etc. Have fun with the aiport cleetus, it deserved an owner who cares about its history and community
I love the fact that these guys at the airport are willing to participate in the videos. Its totally awesome!
i dont think a more perfect channel exists for me. we started with cars, then we had planes and helicopters, now were running damn tractors! what a ride
Don't forget the boats...Cleet is a winner in Sprint Boat racing as well.
@burgessschnitzius4987 and boats! Even better that is he was racing a boat built in New zealand by a company in my home town 🤙🏼
and hovercraft
Cleetus is really only into tractors. He's been running a long con to sucker us in.
Not gonna lie I love you involving the old timers and treating them just like they are young men again.
100% , everyone gets to be a kid having fun in Cleetss videos !
JD 4440 is probably the best tractor ever built.
4020 changed it all
I’m a Farmall man but the 4440 and 4020 are probably the best.
@@TaintScratchno, 4320 was better than a 4020 in absolutely every way

Yep, I see tractor pulls coming to the Freedom Factory now. Be sure and clean that mower off so that it can dry off. Great job on the field.
Man, Mike is such a legend. Seems like such a nice guy, would love to hear more about his time and adventures in aviation.
Never have i ever thought that i'd see farming stuff on this channel.
I'm DIGGING it soo much.
Please make this once Monthly thing or something. Definintely would like to see more of that!
These Old Guys are solid gold, brilliant characters you surround yourself with.
Great to watch wholesome stuff.
Mikes a staple of the air strip .. man’s prob happy as a clam to have you all as a friend
this is the progression i was waiting for, i started following this channel and im not a car guy, but cleet made me enjoy cars, but doing tractor work, out in the open field now this is the real deal hahaha. love it. i'll defintely buy a cleetus & jackstand john deere inspired merch.
Gotta have some drone shots of them tractor action. Also please do a full maintenance service on them. Replace all fluids, few battery cables, belts, all basic stuff. They are solid units.
Need Marty T from New Zealand
I love seeing the community you are building, from drag racing to aviation
I'm looking for him to chime in
I was thinking the same thing. Derek appreciates tractors 🚜.
My grandpa was a JD collector so I grew up playing with old crusty John Deeres. This video gave me the warm fuzzies.
Based on the measurements in the video, the concrete calculator I use to estimate concrete jobs puts it at 6.74 cubic yards, 24,193.42 lbs. That’s not accounting for the steel bar going through it or the frame that’s just for a solid concrete cylinder.
How am I enjoying a video of two cool guys mowing and flattening the ground.
The guys already on that property are so lucky Cleetus bought it. He'll respect them and their planes.
Don’t forget he also has a staff of workers down the road at the freedom factory, and a lawn care nut friend to help with the maintenance. So they’re probably really happy about having a professional crew on it.
I vote for a rebuild series on the ole 4440!
I’ve always enjoyed how cleetus is so into the little things. Lawnmowers. Grass or bleachers he is man for sure.
you need to get McFarland Fab putting together a water sprayer trailer for that poor grass, get a trash pump to fill it up from the lake next door and get to spraying.
Fun all day !!
the 4440 was one of the best tractors ever built. lots of those tractors still working the fields in Alabama.
can confirm, my neighbor across the street uses it for moving his bale trailer that will make a DOT officer sweat from how overloaded it is, then my neighbor to the south uses his to turn his 15’ bush hog for his cow pasture. both upgraded to something newer and more comfortable for actually working their crops, but theres not a shortage of people still using them for crops
all the toys in the world the tractor has made him smile the biggest
just something abt a good tractor brings out the kid in everyone
