YOU sir saved another e36. The shop has been sitting on my car for nearly a month. I coded out the EWS and since my car has already had 11 keys issued, BMW will not give me a new cylinder. I've worked around the EWS and now you've given me the information to fix the ignition issue. Beers on me brother!
Hey Sarah I have a 99 Z3 that I have done everything with an even tried to hook up a push button like you did and for some reason now I have not even crank with the button I'm not sure what it is any ideas
Hello, What did you do for ignition steering lock, what I did on my Porsche was take the key out of remote and leave it in ignition switch with it in the on/unlocked position and just mounted button over the ignition key with strong Velcro, It looks and works like factory and all I have to do if unit fails is pull button off and use key
Hey man not sure if you’re still on here, but technically wouldn’t you be able to wire an actual switch for the accessory/vehicle power, to bypass the mechanical ignition switch entirely?
WHEN YOU SWITCH IT TO THAT BUTTON DO YOU STILL NEED TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL KEY IN THE IGNITION TO START THE CAR OR WILL IT START WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION???
First off: thanks for making this! I was messing around with this project last night and your video series was a great reference that I kept going back to. I've got everything rigged up and it works! I just need to tidy up and tuck everything away - maybe clean up some of the connections. But now, have you had any trouble long term with this ignition? Any electrical problems or catastrophes? I've seen some other tutorials and people used automative relays. Your set up here doesn't have one. Should I be worried by not having these switches run through a relay before hitting the ignition switch wiring? Thanks again.
I had no problems related to the ignition. However, I did have a problem with the engine security locking. I think that was from problems with the door and lock sensors though. Thanks for watching
I will try this for my sons 1995 BMW 325i, his ignition just spins around 360 degree the ignition barrel tab must be broken? is there a way to wire up a toggle switch next to the start button so you don't have to stick a screw driver in that part?
Definitely not the barrel of you take the barrel out and look at the actuator pin you will find a piece is broken from the square tip. New one will set you back about 30 notes. Very simple to replace
From my experience... It worked without the chip but it did end up breaking a couple months later due to a dme or ews problem. If you want to do it right I would do the full ews chip but electrically it's possible to do it without it.
I would look on the forms to be sure. Your car is definitely old enough where the ews might not be a problem. Mine was the ews"2" and would need a new ecu. Good Luck

Your a freaking life saver dude! Question any probs with the steering lock?
Drill out the steering lock spring. Google where the exact spot to drill is on your car.

Gracias Amigo , good video God Bless You.

Will this work if the original igniter broke off already?

If it has EWS then you need key

did u try to turn the wheel and turn the key
If i were to do this, do i have to get the ews chip as mentioned below? or can i use the stock ecu chip and just install the push button?
From my experience... It worked without the chip but it did end up breaking a couple months later due to a dme or ews problem. If you want to do it right I would do the full ews chip but electrically it's possible to do it without it.
I have a 1993 325i e36 and it seems to have a ews1 and my key doesnt seem to have a chip in it so im wondering if i dont need to do the ews delete?

what year is your e36 if u do an EWS delete you won't need the key but you need a red label 413 ECU
yeah, one year too late
I also bought this exact switch panel. It came witha relay. Did you use the relay?
The panel I used was made from scratch. I didn't use any relays but they were high current switches, like 10-20 amps.
What e36 318i ind rigt steer, its same color wire ignition function?
