2nd Coming of Jesus Christ Timeline - LDS Last Days

- This video describes the events surrounding the various appearances of Jesus Christ at the 2nd coming. While many people feel the 2nd coming is a singular event, the scriptures talk about 3 appearances that we often combine and confuse. This video explains the myths and traditional beliefs that have us confused and demystifies the timeline and events.
Ezra Taft Benson describes the three appearances of Christ in the last days in a 1982 New Era article. Many other books including Mormon Doctrine and His Return describe similar approaches.
The first appearance is to the saints living in Zion in Missouri.
The second appearance is when Christ saves the Jews after Armageddon.
The third and main appearance is when he comes in glory with all the holy angels, the morning of the first resurrection occurs, and the righteous are lifted up and the wicked burned.
We often combine the events of these three separate events. This video explains how the 2nd coming last days events are different and shows the scriptural references to that effect.
This video also walks through the signs of the times surrounding the second coming in sequential order to make sure everyone understands the events that need to transpire before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord when every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is the Christ.

@@yeshalloween I don't know about the 'speedily' comment but I do know that in April 2019 in his talk, "Come Follow Me" he stated, "Time is running out." I remember because it scared me to death then. Boy, how a year can change an attitude.

Hopefully we are different than the Nephite church of Christ two hundred years after His visit to the Americas; less worldly, less after fine apparel and fancy, spacious buildings, less desires to seek after honors of men to exalt us above others, pride and less intent to seek after the manner of the god of this world, selling religion for money and with money buying great power and the armies and navies of the world to rule over the nations of this world causing great horror and persecution over the inhabitants of the earth….

Him also saying last year “the time to prepare us now.” It seemed more of an urgency with how he said it, which doesn’t make the second coming seem longer than earlier. But, we still need the 2x3.5 years before He comes. Are we going to know who the two prophets with the Jews are and when that starts exactly? Or can it be done without our knowledge?
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I testify this is true. D&C are true. The Book of Mormon is true and the Pearl of Great Price is true. The Church is true. The authorities of the Church are all true because they follow the will of God.

Thank you again for your insights. I have a sweet neighbor who gave me a video warning me about the “rapture.” Surprisingly, most of it focused on scriptures. I have nothing but respect for the sincere faith she has.
However, the video depicted things as though people are just going to suddenly disappear. Like it could happen tomorrow and millions would just be gone while the earth suffers for 7 years. I’m praying to understand how to respond. I feel like I have fumbled discussing the gospel many other times. I want her to know that we have modern prophets and that Elijah returned already as was foretold.
Anyway, the somewhat cheesy but sincere and honest video from her brought me back to your videos to see what I could share. Maybe I’m not the only one wondering what being “caught up” will actually be like. I think the underlying discrepancy between my neighbor and I is the timeframe of things. That’s where most people disagree. Some evangelicals think the rapture happens before the 7 years of tribulation while others think it’s half way through that.
Any thoughts are welcome and appreciated

Agreed. How can anyone not listening to Pres Eyring tell the sisters in Oct 2020: "You sisters, your daughters, your granddaughters, and the women you have nurtured will be at the heart of creating that society of people who will join in glorious association with the Savior." I understand "Gospel Lessons" talking about LDS (and it's NOT just LDS but many Christians) think the 2nd coming is imminent...But define imminent. This year? Next year? 3-5 years? I truly believe we are 10 years or LESS. For Gospel Lessons to say "not in my lifetime" is really unbelievable.

@@sarahpeacock9686 Amen! That number is in my head as well, 10 years or less. There have been rainbows this year, so it won't be until at least 2022 :P Haha. I think the brethren have been VERY clear, though. With President Eyring's talk and Elder Rasband...they've basically flat out said, "it's you. You're the people." Not sure how people are missing that.
October 2021 General conference in president Nelson’s first talk he uses the word “speedily” to refer to the Lord’s second coming. Our kids could live to see it or we could. He did say we have front row seats to see all this happen in 2020. Nelson said we are the people Nephi saw. I just try to live my day like it’s my last and I’m off for judgment.
It's amazing to me how many people are ignoring those words. I get that the bad stuff before the second coming is scary, but we can't ignore it away. They've all but said that He's coming back while we're here.

2000.Anniversary Ascension = 2033 AD.

One of the missionaries I served with in ‘97 said his Patriarichal Blessing said during his mortality he’ll be serving in the Lord’s Kingdom during the Millennium.

Great presentation! I love the interactive timeline too. Have you ever considered leading something like an open source effort to create an interactive timeline (which is "directionally correct and sequentially accurate") to depict these events?

Thank you for your videos. I live in Missouri, and we are constantly are seeing families moving to this area from different parts of the US and almost every family when you ask them why they moved here their response is always “we felt inspired to move here” what do you think about that?
You are blessed to be in Missouri already. We are in Sydney Australia so this would be a significant move which would also mean getting visa's to live in the USA. If I was there I'd be visiting Spring Hill and all the significant sites often. Enjoy Missouri.
I think people should wait for Missouri to be cleansed first.
If these people really felt inspired to move to Missouri, they may end up serving people to help them escape before it becomes completely cleansed, or for other reasons that we may never know about. It's always important to listen to the Spirit and for personal revelation.
@@ritakus9871 as someone who also lives in Missouri, there are so many families moving here all the time, we moved here for that reason. I would say also that anyone who moves here that is LDS for any reason other than being led, they leave quite quickly. Some people are genuinely meant to be here. There is definitely work to be done. So yeah, people shouldn't move here for fun, but if you felt led, don't put it off for fear of a cleansing. We don't really know what that even means.

@@lisajex7585 To me, advanced humans are those becoming like unto Heavenly Father and Christ.
Ether 4:13-19 is written, about the lesser portion, however if you liken that scripture unto you, and then liken it in its opposite form, that’s where you with an open heart and mind begin to desire and receive the Spirit’s revelations. The Spirit teaches you deeper truths as you give more time of yourself to the Lord; less self service and more serving others.
An example of the lesser portion is the orthodox context of family; where you only care for those only whose DNA is related to you or by marriage, and view all others as strangers.
What would be the greater portion? To love and see everyone as your DNA brothers and sisters because they indeed are your brothers and sisters and you would want to serve them as the Savior did; Matthew 25:31-46.

I’m so thankful for your hard work and research. I do my own, but the videos you present ring true and are a great help. While I believe as you do in regards to how bad it will get before the 2nd coming, Pres. Nelson certainly raised a voice of warning in this last Gen Conf for all to prepare spiritually as persecution begins to ramp up. I believe that once it gets rolling in full force, it will increase exponentially. Anyway, thanks again for your dedication. Looking forward to the completed timeline as a study help. 😊👍🏼

I just yesterday had a conversation with my son about this very topic. He moved his family home from Missouri last year after finishing a Doctorate at Wash U. He has studied a lot more than I have (at University as well as scriptures, which I am most proud of him.)
My question comes from imagining what it will be like when the earth is burned and also about receiving Paradisiacal Glory and the timeline of these events???
Pay special attention to when the word "and" is used. That does not mean it has to be in sequence, but can also mean "in conjunction with" or "at the same time as".
Like, I went to the store and my wife went to the bank. It can mean it happened sequentially, but it may also mean that both happened at, or near, the same time.

It's similar to having a child. You know the baby is coming, you prepare, then all of a sudden it happens. Then all of sudden you're a grandparent, and then a great grandparent. I think it's more like this example.

Actually, the Lord will not come THREE (3), but FOUR (4), times, because the Lord will be at the gathering at Adam-Ondi-Ahman as well. Also, regarding the NEW temple to be built In Jerusalem, what about the abomination of desolation in it spoken of by Daniel I believe?
I too wondered about Adam-Ondi-Ahman., that gathering being the 4th visit by The Lord. I know there is speculation that this event has actually taken place because of an obscure comment by Wendy Nelson, the prophet’s wife. The Last Day’s Frenzy began in our family at around 2008- improving our temporal preparedness was the focus. We’ve felt burnt out after the many years of preparing and listening to those that have declared we are in the Tribulation. I absolutely believe we are not. I’m in my early 60’s and never imagined I’d be alive at the final event but the various comments by GA’s gave me hope sort of but realizing much of their comment is being interpreted to fit the timelines they have created. Now our preparedness is on spiritual improvement. No more “Prepping” just living. Worn out.

Thank you for your thoughtful videos, I enjoy the insights that you provide. I have a question about the old Jerusalem temple. In a TH-cam video of a speech by Cleon Skousen, "Old Testament Predicts Our Day by Cleon Skousen from Favorite Speeches Vol 1," at 55:00-55:30, he implies that the old Jerusalem temple will have already been built when the armies of Gog and Magog invade Jerusalem. He doesn't mention which Jeremiah scripture he bases that statement on. At 15:00-15:30 in this video, I think I'm hearing that the old Jerusalem temple will be built after Jesus delivers the Jews from Gog and Magog. I'm interested in figuring out which is it, if we can even know for sure. Can you shed any more light on the subject or point me to another video which elaborates on this further?
Hey just stumbling upon this and I wanted to reply to your 1 yr old comment- so you might have found this info already:). The Jews have raised the $ to build the temple. There is debate at where the actual temple is. Really cool videos on TH-cam about this. Some believe it is on the Temple Mount obviously- which they do not have access to. But there are some really compelling arguments that the current Temple Mount is actually the Roman fortification and that the temple was just below it on the mount. Since Christ said that not one stone would be left unturned and the area would become a filed plowed and harvested, it is odd that the west wall still stands- and there is no field. However, a selected area just below fits the description AND underneath this selected field is remnants of what many beleive to be Solomon’s temple. Herod’s temple was built over Solomon’s which was covered underground, just like this one. If you find a video of it- watch for some familiar markings in the ground of what they believe to be Solomon’s temple. Beyond that- the appearance missed in this video is the temple appearance before that on the Holy mount- when the Jews offer the sacrifice of the 3rd red heiffer. There are amazing videos about this as well- they have the cows ready to go and they are officially of age. The sacrifice does not need to be down in the temple, but overlooking the temple grounds. The mount of Olives (owned by a particular Jewish family). Is the perfect site and they are making preparations. It is said the sacrifice and appearance would be after blood running coincidental with some other signs- sorry I forget the specifics. But last Easter aligned with Passover and there was blood spilled on the Holy mount. The sacrifice is supposed to occur on Passover this April- right before the second eclipse. Maybe you have come across all that- but if not, there’s a lot of fun research for you:)

Thank you for this presentation. I have been studying the second coming lately, and have realized the timeline may be a little different, based on the events in D&C 88:95-99, and D&C 45:45-51. When the half hour of silence ends, there is a quickened and caught up event for the Saints who are alive, and a resurrection as mentioned in section 88:96-98. This is the first resurrection. Now when does this happen? At the end of the half hour of silence. When is that? Well, if you read D&C 45:45 it also describes a resurrection as the same event as in section 88 because footnote c references to 88:96. Then in section 45:48 it says Christ sets his foot on the mount after this resurrection. This means the silence in heaven must end before He sets his foot on the mount. And we know that this appearance is not the second coming because section 88:99 says after all the previous events, a second trump will sound and those who were in spirit prison and received the Gospel will be redeemed at Christ's coming. Footnote a in verse 99 references to the topical guide Jesus Christ, Second Coming. There is a space of time in between the events of 88:96-98, and the events of verse 99 separated by two trumps.
My feelings are, based on these scriptures, is that the half hour of silence could end when the two witnesses in Jerusalem are resurrected and caught up to meet Christ as he descends to the Mount of Olives, and the Saints who are quickened and those who are resurrected in section 88 are caught up at this time to descend with Christ to the mount. And if those who accept the Gospel are freed from prison to be redeemed at Christ's second coming in glory, then all the work for the dead has to be completed before Christ comes in glory. I have always understood that all the work for the dead would be completed during the millennium when we will have access to the records and knowledge necessary to complete that work.

You forgot to mention His appearance at Adam-ondi-Ahmen as one of his final appearances or do you not consider that appearance as one of the second coming event?

I often get confused of the language used. The revelations in D&C seem to jump around a lot. Specifically in D&C45 the revelation jumps from the final event of the second coming to the 2nd event when Christ visits the news, then to the first event when Christ visits zion. I read President Bensons new era article but I can't help but wonder why no one else has specifically talked about the key differences of the 3 appearances

This is a good attempt at a timeline but I find may things that are not consistent with current teachings by the Brethren and scriptural evidence.
1. The persecution of the Saints is mentioned in the opening of the 6th seal and it has reference to the martyrs in the first 3 centuries of Christianity. It is not a new thing but a continuation of what has been happening since the Gospel was first preached.
2. A return to Missouri may not be in our future. Missouri was the place designated as Zion and the gathering place for the Saints in the 1830's but we lost that due to our wickedness and inability to live like a Zion society. The Lord has now designated all of the stakes of Zion as the gathering place for the Saints. I don't see a return to Missouri mentioned by any contemporary Church leader. The reference in D&C 133 is specific for the Saints in Joseph Smith's day, not ours.
3. The 10 Lost Tribes were led by Ephraim. Ephraim has been found and gathered as well as Manasseh. The return of the 10 tribes is not an event but a process.
4. The half hour of silence in the heavens is taken from Revelation 8:1. As we know, the author of the book of Revelation makes it very clear in the first chapter that this book is highly symbolic and that it should not be taken literal. The theme of silence in the heavens has been much studied and not many agree on its definition. Let's be careful about taking it literal. We may already be living in the 7th seal.
5. The three and 1/2 years are also symbolic. Don't get caught up in numerology. It comes from a book that is highly symbolic.
6. The First Resurrection began with the resurrection of Christ and will continue until the last righteous person is resurrected, which could be a thousand years after the Millennium starts. Once again, not an event but a process.
We need to be careful in speculating. The Lord's timeline is fluid and the events are to be interpreted according to His will and not ours. I'm not comfortable with this author and his videos. I've watched them and cannot endorse them, they contain way too much speculation.

I love your comment! This video was very unsettling to me, I had to stop watching because it just felt wrong. Also, I don't think a lot of people realize it, but they should read D&C 124:49-51. People are thinking too literally. I am from the tribe of Ephraim...I am literally a member of one of the lost tribes and have been found. It's a process, not necessarily one event. Doctrine of Troy here, only my thoughts. The 10th article of faith talks about
a gathering of the tribes. Then it talks about the restoration of tribes. As I have studied I feel like its two separate things. Gathering is what I did on my mission a long time ago. A restoration is to me more like a return. I think the lost tribes that the Lord took are probably with the cities of Enoch & Melchizedek. The return of the lost tribes are to be a greater event then when G-d
parted the Red Sea through Moses. I think its one of the reasons Nephi includes many of the Isaiah chapters in 2Nephi that talk about the return of the tribes. Its has been awhile since I studied up on this topic.
Isaiah says that Lord gathers them (lost tribes) from the four corners of heaven. I would have to look up the exact chapter and verse, and of course I'm paraphrasing. 3Nephi 21 also talks about the return being an event. Anyway im rambling on.
As for the time-line, it was okay, i just feel differently. I think when the Palmyra Temple was dedicated it started the 30 or so minutes of silence in the heavens. Its only my opinion but that 30 or so minutes breaks down to about 20-21 years before things start to getting bad.

The 7th Seal was opened in the year 2000 which can be found in the church website but the Battle of Armageddon, Desolation and the building of the New Jerusalem will take time before Christ comes in glory to receive the New Jerusalem which the saints should live the principles of the law of the celestial kingdom. If we base our calendar from the Hebrew calendar which is more accurate we are still on the 6th Seal. The Timeline for all the future events will not be enough if we base our calendar on the Gregorian calendar which had a big error. I calculated the 2nd coming of Christ in glory base on the Hebrew calendar which is more accurate that's why we are still on the 6th seal according to the Hebrew calendar.

It's quite clear that Armageddon happens after the opening of the 7th seal. Rev 8, beginning the chapters about trumpets sounding in heaven to proclaim seven desolations, starts by not sounding the trumpets, AKA silence in heaven for half an hour. Then seven trumpets proclaiming seven desolations. Then we get into some non-sequential stuff. Now to Rev 15:1, seven vials causing the seven "last plagues" which are described in chapter 16. Then Armageddon.
How accurate is the Gregorian calendar?
If we base our calendar on Gregorian calendar the 7th Seal was opened in the year 2,000 from the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints website. There will be many events prophesied from the scriptures that will be missing like the Battle of Armageddon, Desolation and the building of the New Jerusalem in Jackson County, Missouri which will take time including the saints at that time in the New Jerusalem to live the principles of the law of the celestial kingdom for Christ to receive it when he comes in glory.
"And Zion cannot be built up unless it is by the principles of the law of the celestial kingdom; otherwise I cannot receive her unto myself." D&C 105:5
If we base our calendar from the Hebrew calendar which is more accurate we are still on the 6th Seal of Revelation and the 7th Seal will open in the year 6,000 of the Hebrew calendar.
After the 7th Seal was opened in the year 6,000 there will be a half hour silence in heaven approximately 21 years. The Second Coming of Christ in glory would be the year 6,021 and when we convert that to Gregorian calendar the Second Coming of Christ in glory will be the year 2260 which shows a big error in the Gregorian calendar.

I have long considered that event to be the first of four appearances of Christ, the remaining three being the ones you mention here. When we read of Christ coming as a thief in the night, I think of those scriptures referring to Adam Ondi Ahman.
You are correct, It will be a while. There has to be a temple in Zion for the Lord to appear at in his first appearance of the second coming.
Before that can happen there has to be a people humble enough to go to Zion and build it. A people who are righteous enough to live the law of consecration. Look around at current members of the church. Do you see a people ready to build Zion? I don't personally know a single person who is ready. The Lord humbles people through affliction. I suspect that we will have to go through many years of severe persecution before we are ready as a people.

All His appearances are in glory, but to a growing group of people. First just to the keys holders in Adam Ondi Aman, then to Zion in the New Jerusalem, then to the Jews, then the whole world. He never comes as just a man without glory. Micah from The II LDS Archives explains this well.
Perhaps, but I think theres a difference to appearing in glory from being the Son of God to the two Jerusalems and the glory from being God when God gives his Son full reign over earth becoming God.

The silence before the sounding of the trumpets is not on earth, it is in heaven (Rev. 8:1). So man's time is out. The lord's time is given in 2 Peter 3:8 "one day with the Lord is as a thousand years." Which would make half an hour roughly 21 years to us mortals.

Here’s a crazy thought. Could the New Jerusalem already be here? And we are so blind we don’t see it happening before our eyes? Because we have gotten caught up in a few scriptures? The Lord made it clear to Joseph Smith after the expulsion of Missouri that if His servants try with all their might to do his will and wicked men prevent them from doing his work, that He doesn’t require that work anymore. What was the work? To establish the New Jerusalem in Missouri. But the people of that state prevented it from happening. It’s reported that when Brigham Young entered the Salt Lake valley he said “This is now the New Jerusalem”. Look at what the church is doing around the salt lake temple. Beautify everything. Purchasing all the area. Could this possibly be the New Jerusalem? I’m not sure but it’s intriguing to consider!

I know a lot of people still cling to Missouri because of what someone said (one of the former brethren, can't remember who) but the scriptures are clear and sometimes people are merely sharing opinion.

Agreed - that's a big one! It was eye-opening to me (again, apparently, since I've taught this same material before!) teaching seminary on section 116 this past week to read these quotes that show 1) the meeting at Adam-ondi-Ahman is going to be HUGE! 2) It will include respected beings, and 3) it will *precede* the destruction of the wicked. Hard to imagine what the political and social environment will be like to facilitate that!
President Joseph Fielding Smith taught about the time when Adam will come to visit his people:
“This gathering of the children of Adam, where the thousands, and the tens of thousands are assembled in the judgment, *will be one of the greatest events this troubled earth has ever seen.* At this conference, or council, all who have held keys of dispensations will render a report of their stewardship. Adam will do likewise, and then he will surrender to Christ all authority. Hi Carolyn ,this is what he spoke what he stated:the rising generation is the one that has just begun . Thus technically speaking , children born on April 6th, 1843 would be the first members of the rising generation, and all children born, however many years later to the same parents would still be members of that same rising generation. It is not unreasonable to suppose that many young men had babies at that time of the prophecy and also had other children as much as 50 or 70 years later , assuming for instance that they were married again to younger women. This very probable assumption would bring the date up to to the second decade in the 20th century- and the children so born would be members of that same rising generation of which the prophet spoke. Now if these children lived to the normal age of men they. Would be alive well past the year 200ad this reasoning takes on added significance when considered in connection with revelation which states categorically that Christ will come in the beginning of the seventh thousand years of the temporal existence of the earth We of course do not know exactly how many years elapsed between Adam and the birth of Christ but suppose it was 4004yrs nor can we be sure from historical sources how many years have passed since. But reading these inspired statements in connection with the signs of the times which we can interpret, it is clear that the day of the coming of the son of man is not to far distant,! Christ's appearance at Kirtland temple and at Adam-ondi-Ahmen are bookends to the restoration to prepare his people in to be his bride at the marriage supper, which is Adam-ondi-Ahmen. Adam-ondi-Ahmen will take place on a Palm Sunday. The appearance of Christ to the Jews will happen on Passover Sabbath. Think about this Palm Sunday on April 6, 2036 is also General Conference. Passover Sabbath in 2036 is on April 12th. The meteor Apophis could strike the Earth on April 13, 2036. So time-line Isaiah 24 is fulfilled and the Saints are freed from their persecution by plagues that kill the wicked. The surviving saints make their way to Adam-ondi-Ahmen and the remaining temples. The Savior is crowned LORD of Lords and KING of Kings on Palm Sunday. Then the following Saturday Christ appears to the Jews and T-ups the Earth for major continental shifting when Apophis strikes the Earth on Easter Sunday. The five faithful Virgins are spared from destruction. The USA ceases to exist as a Nation. And the saints settle and gather in Jackson County, MO. They establish a new nation, the United States of Zion. Approximately 20 years pass (silence in heaven for the space of a half hour). Then the Lord suddenly appears in His temple. Then final destruction of the wicked and rapture of the righteous. So if Apophis is 2036 then Christ's second coming to all the world would be some time in 2050s.

And I'm interpreting the half hour of silence in heaven as the time between the opening of the 7th seal and Christ's return to all the world. Christ didn't say you can't know anything regarding the lead up to his return. Rather he said that just as you see the seasons change you know what weather is coming and when to plant and when to harvest. The righteous will know and recognize the signs and times. The wicked will be deceived and say he delays.

He also said the second coming of Christ would come as a thief in the night to those who aren't paying attention, but children of light (those watching the signs) will not be surprised. I'm of the opinion that He will come again in my life time (I'm in my early 30's,) but whether that's through my mortal death or I happen to still be alive on the earth, He will come again.

Thanks for producing this! I would suggest adding The Restoration of Israel in 1948/1967 somewhere to the left. Maybe this is what you are referring to in the section labeled The Gathering of Israel. Also when the Jews begin to believe in Christ as the Messiah. These two events/circumstances seem to be a big part of the timeline and are interconnected with other signs. See 2 Ne 9:2, 2 Ne 10:7, 2 Ne 25:16-18, 30:7-8, Zach 12:10, Romans 11:25-26
i agree with this. The State of Israel was freed from gentile rule, at the time the British, on May 14, 1948. That is when the Time of Gentiles ended.
If 1000 years equals 1 day to God, 30 min in heaven = almost 21 years on earth (from the time Christ sets his foot on the mount), which seems about the amount of time required to rebuild Jerusalem and build the temple. We definitely have a ways to go. Soon to God isn't necessarily soon to us. Soon in the overall scheme of things? Yes.
