Honestly I’ve already started in a way…I have bought like 10 games for my pro the past year or so and everyone of them was released at least like 5 years ago with the exception of re village and dmc5. So in the Japanese script one of the party members is like: "Can you go ask her is she's a boy or a girl so we dont get into any arguments later?" And in the American script it's changed too: "Can you go ask for their pronouns so we dont get into any arguments later?" That kind of thing, nothing that completely changes the plot but still is annoying.

In Japan male/female secondary characteristics are less obvious (both biologically and linguistically) so thwe question 'is that a man or a woman' and 'do i refer to them as a man or a woman' works pretty much the same. I remember when I was a kid there was this game called oblivion. Everytime you jumped, you level up your acrobatics making you jump higher, running leveled up your speed making you walk faster. Love how a game 15 years ago could introduce such a detailed rpg experience, yet a game in last 10 years hasn't even come close to something like that.
I think the closest that's come to that recently is Dying Light, to be honest. Running increases acrobatics XP, living though long periods of time increases survivor XP, and so on.

The 7th gen was an amazing time for gaming. Games were being made in HD, gameplay mechanics were evolving to be more engaging, writing was starting to become more “sophisticated” and not held back by wokeism and the games had an insane amount of detail. We had banger after banger.
Don't count on the industry to do that. Even if they did they'll find a way to fuck it up. You've only to look to GTA Remastered as the most recent example. You'll have to do it yourself. Hook up your old consoles and portables, and reinstall your old games.
Being someone who's autistic but finds forced diversity cringe, I've lived an amazing life,I've been on radio, met awesome people and went in fantastic places even though a small time beforehand i was a shy autistic man but I pushed myself to improve and be happy and have fun. But this forced diversity in the media to me feels like as if on every one of those trips, some guy every 5 minutes went up to me and said "hey man, i know you're autistic and we care, just want you to know that" I mean yeah I'm happy the world's become more accepting but after a while if someone was constantly reminding me I'm great coz I'm autistic, I'd probably after about 15 minutes, be in jail for GBH. It's so fucking annoying that it INFESTS so much media I enjoy.

Looking at the this I’ve come to a realization, we’ve lost. Gaming is absolutely dry and the games we once loved are now on strings connected to massive corporations, only being used to drag the nostalgic feeling of a good time out of us. I suppose it’s only a matter of time, though I wasn’t expecting these drastic changes to happen so fast. I also feel as if the people pulling the strings are trying to forcefully clear the gaming community’s name, trying to make it known for diversity and whatever other bullshit that most of the gaming community doesn’t even care about, rather than the original sort of Mountain Dew and Doritos and violent fun sort of thing from the earlier 2010’s. I guess that’s kind of required for these people to mold the gaming community into their own little corporate gold mine I guess. TLDR: The gaming community is so utterly fucked it’s not even funny.

I miss the good old days when i was watching a movie or playing a game with a strong female character they were written that way without literally telling me shes a strong female character. Like The Boss from MGS 3 will never be topped. Sad that this is the state of the industry this is why I love older games even ones I was too young to play like morrowind, I have been playing that game so much this year and it truly represents why I miss the 6th gen of gaming . It was awesome truly with the amount of original properties came out that are a dead horse today.
Nothing will ever beat the 6th gen. Creativity was through the roof and the only thing we had to worry about was if a game was bad. Now we have to look at monetization, forced politics, forced censorship and a sea of remasters/remakes in a desperate attempt from the industry to keep us invested along with their new casual audiences.

The only gameplay one I have is a magica regen overhaul , and I use the birthsign the steed to go fast plus I'm playing it on my phone because my PC can't run morrowind without lag because of windows 10 bs

I read today that Bungie has over 40% women working in high paid positions, now I'm not saying women have no place or any of that trash but I do strongly feel like women don't know what gamers want and I find it troubling why a product has to suffer for this to be overcome, I was watching old Halo documentaries last night and you could really tell that it being a mainly boys club brought out the very best of imagination because some of these men were very cynical about games and used that to go to the most visceral ways to create entertainment for mainly other men. I feel like women are going to take so long to really understand what that kind of imagination is when you're under a lot of pressure and a deadline just like the way women aren't very successful with comedy. Modern gaming is generally a waste of time. Apart from a very few exceptions now and then Indie games and retro games is the only thing of worth in the video games industry. What is supposed to be the pinnacale of video games and what the medium is capable of is only devolving and is a complete dumpsterfire of digital overpriced happy meal toys.
Great recent games on my list (most of recent years): Unsighted, Sekiro, Risk of Rain 2, GhostRunner, Katana Zero, It takes two, Dead Cells (constant updates) I think those were awesome to play. Perhaps you are looking in the wrong places?

Unsighted, Risk of Rain 2, It takes two (despite being published by EA), and Dead Cells are indie or sidelined titles developed by smaller studios, not AAA. And the others are the exceptions. There are a ton of amazing games out there including new ones. But most of them are indie games or developed by somewhat smaller studios and publishers. Not in the AAA sphere. I'm talking about the Assassins creed sequel nr 14 digital deluxe permium pre order gold edt, Far Cry copied and pasted but slightly worse what the previous 3 games did with a different coat of paint. And Dragon Age: the suckers are going to buy it day one because its a recognisable brand. Those are the type of games that unfortunately represent the gaming industry and is the face of the modern gaming industry. Those are the games and the industry of which I'm talking about in this instance. Not passionate developers breaking new ground with a smaller budget and make generally fun and interesting games:)

As a female gamer, this embarrasses me. Stop forcing women, minorities and sexually confused people upon us! The reason why games like Tomb Raider are so iconic, is because the whole story wasn't about Lara being a woman and oppressed by some phantom force. She was badass and highly capable, sexy yet powerful. I'm sure most long-time female gamers would agree. I think they're just trying to appease the insecure Gen Z kids.
Even on the Matrix Unreal Engine 5 demo game, you play as a random black girl, like why can’t we just play as Neo or someone from the actual game? It’s just forced diversity over and over again. Another thing that gets to me is how cringe the dialogues are becoming in games as well. Rarely are they badass anymore, it’s just more of the same egoistic spoiled brat one liners.
The funny part is coming from a small town in the Midwest there is far more LGBTQ, female, and black representation than there are characteristics who represent me. Name some blond haired blue eyed straight white males from the Midwest represented in media and I'll name far more gay characters despite there being more people like me in the world than them. They want 50/50 representation despite only being like 10% of the population. Stop identifying yourselves by one aspect of who you are and you'll stop being misrepresented. @@squarepickle after doing some research, naturally you are wrong. After 5 years of a steady 10.2% representation of lgbtq+ people in mainstream media, it has decreased to 9.1% this year. So it's literally gotten smaller. Also 9.1%, does that seem common to you? I'm sure you'd love to read an article saying why video games can help lgbtq+ people feel like themselves. With poc it is atleast more prevalent, primarily for black people. 20.9 percent of shows, had atleast a single black person. But Latinos only have 5.5% representation in shows. And for indigenous people, it is literally 0.1%. But yes we have too much representation. So yes, while representation has improved, it is not this insane amount you think it is, to the point that it is more prevalent than straight white people.
I mean it usually is, this year was no different. I only watched some of the highlights, no way I’m wasting 4 hours of my life on picks made by “journalists”. You would think people would get the memo with how last years event went. Deathloop is probably the most irrelevant and forgotten AAA game in recent history. Even bad games still get some attention, lol. And what's worse is that it's coming from a studio that has (or had) a really good reputation.
I've bowed out of newer games years ago due to not having a powerful enough PC, and other than some Nintendo releases there's not too much to look forward to in the major, western gaming market. Indie devs on the other hand and re-releases of niche titles on the other hand are where it's at for me. Love me some Monster Rancher, or Crimzon Clover. Only trailers that enticed me were The Sonic ones and KOFXV due to an obscure character returning. I'm all about Fighters, Shmups, and Niche Titles nowadays anyway, but I do like Halo in general. My point is, we don't need these awards or AAA titles, we'll be fine and probably better off without them.

100%, games have been having lead female protagonists for decades, Lara croft as maybe the biggest example. But they are definitely trying to balance out the female to male protagonist ratio but as you say, if the game is good, who cares

James Bond and Ghostbusters women remakes recently come to mind. why try to put a woman into a male role (circle peg in a square hole)? writers need to create strong female roles.
The problem is that journalists push their agenda. And the gamers elect what is in. That's the reason why Halo Infinite was the player's choice: the free multiplayer drop who saw millions of consecutive players. Most people don't know how to judge how good something is. As journalists are easily "bought".
I can't agree with everything you've said here. But before getting into that, I do agree with the overall point here. There is too much virtue signaling and less of a focus on the game itself nowadays and this neglect in appreciating the game in itself is harming the industry. Some of the examples used to support your point is just super weak or actually incorrect. I know you haven't played Hellblade and likely don't know much about it, but the first game did not have a UI. That game aimed to be as immersive as possible both to serve its narrative and to give an overwhelming feel to its gameplay. It's an experience you can't get with other games. I agree with it being vertical sliced, but the original game manages to seamlessly weave its cinematics with gameplay several times. I can't write off the trailer as a complete 100% lie because of that. Besides, Hellblade is developed by a middleware team, they're not some AAA studio trying to virtue signal and be political, they genuinely want to create a unique experience. I do agree that many companies use women solely as a means of virtue signaling and marketing, but it doesn't mean every example of a female protagonist in a game crosses that line. The situation is much more nuanced than that. Female protagonists can be in a game without the purpose of making a statement. I know you're not prejudiced towards women you just care about game, but the WAHMEN counter really doesn't support your point. Virtue signaling on its own would have been enough. Also, while yes, the nominees chosen for the Game Awards are hella rigged, the gaming community as a whole do at least have the say on the winner chosen out of the nominees. Using who wins to support your point just doesn't work. Did the gaming community vote for Maggie just because "female diverisity?" Did gamers choose Metroid Dread just because Samus is a woman? (Maybe you used them as examples as a joke but if that's the case clearly that joke didn't reach me.) And finally, you say that the audience wearing masks is virtue signaling. It's easily the worst take in the whole video. Wearing a mask is a serious precaution. Do you think the safety precaution should be ignored? Should everyone's lives be at risk for some integrity? It's either that, or you don't think it's real and that this global issue is just some media propaganda. In that case, I beg for your own sake that you do some proper research with medical resources and not what some random person on the internet said. This is an actual serious matter. TL:DR I agree with the video, there are just several arguments made that are cringe. Side note: It Takes Two is genuinely a really great game and deserved the win. That game does not ignore gameplay in the slightest.

Everyone was becoming immune so the virus just failed to thrive. New variants happen because of hotspots where people are still infected so the virus mutates there and spreads again. The point of vaccine is to prevent this from happening. The only common side effect should be a feeling a tiredness for 1 or 2 days after being vaccinated. Any other side effects happen due to someone's immune system already being bad. (Which anyone should check with their doctor if they're worried about that) You can be as healthy as possible, but without proper treatments you'll lose your sense of smell and have a damaged immune system. I respect your opinion that you care about gameplay more than the story, I on the other hand care about both story and gameplay. The story, mainly because I want to know what's going on and which characters are worth rooting for to emotionally invest on. While the gameplay is arguably part of the story, it represents the world of that game in its respectful series. You can't remove story from gameplay and neither vice versa, they both NEED to work together to make a masterpiece of a game worth playing for more than ten years! But...to each his own. I do agree that the gaming industry is dying and the gaming community is being more catered to casual masses rather than the real gamers that made the community so great, oh how the mighty had fallen.
I agree. I think it also depends on which genre of game you like the most. If you're a rpg guy like me you really do care about the story and characters a lot because you want to immerse yourself in a fictional world where something interesting is happen and that has something to tell and mean. If a game has a great story, you will always remember it and come back to play it again once in a while, after years. If you're a shooter or multiplayer or action guy you could value gameplay much more importantly than story and characters because you just want to "play" and don't care about what's happening and why it's happening. I think there has to be a very good balance between the two components because if the story is good but the gameplay is bad or boring you just end up watching someone else playing or stop caring eventually And If the gameplay is good but the story and characters are forgettable and uninteresting you won't really remember that game and once you have played it once, you won't play it again (especially when the sequel comes out and the gameplay becomes better than previous game). This might vary on which types of people play games in general, but I also care about the story just as much as gameplay even when I play action games like DMC5, old Spider-Man games from Activision, GTA V, Max Payne 3 and Ninja Gaiden Master Collection. Action-RPGs are supposed to be more immersive than action games, take the soulslike games and the Witcher series for example, they have depth in both setting and gameplay that makes players feel as if they're actually within that world but action games don't have that depth despite them struggling to be taken seriously nowadays with the rise of open world action-RPGs. Multiplayer games are increasing each year, and this worries most gamers who want to have a single player experience (myself included), it's good for the companies and studios that make and update them constantly, it's faster and easier for them to make expansions, they make more money out of MMOs, battle royale and live services. There's story in them but they feel unfinished and underwhelming to me. Thank you for your time and as far as I'm concerned, this wokeness had gone too far. Now, I don't have ANY problem with freedom of speech but magnifying and virtue signaling will only make people feel enforced to think and speak like the certain group, not only it'll suppress one's confidence and self-esteem but also one's freedom of creativity. Are there solutions for this? Yes, you just have to have your own group with the same mindset and keep that entertainment fun and alive for yourself and those around you. Hey, not every game with a female protagonist is a wahmen thing. Tomb Raider (at least not the new ones), Ender Lilies with the little girl protagonist, etc. don't really count because the female protagonist isn't female just for inclusion or whatever. Lara Croft is a badass character that just happens to be a woman, and being a little girl in Ender Lilies has to do with the fact that it's about facing your fears and they needed a protagonist that appears fragile but overcomes the challenge. That being said, I'll also say that 90% of female protagonists are female just for the hell of it.

I don't see anything wrong with having female protagonists in games as long as the fact that they're female doesn't keep getting brought up. It shouldn't matter what gender the protagonist is. it shouldn't be a good thing or a bad thing. It's just a creative decision by the writer.

"Can you go ask her is she's a boy or a girl so we dont get into any arguments later?"
And in the American script it's changed too:
"Can you go ask for their pronouns so we dont get into any arguments later?" That kind of thing, nothing that completely changes the plot but still is annoying.

I remember when I was a kid there was this game called oblivion. Everytime you jumped, you level up your acrobatics making you jump higher, running leveled up your speed making you walk faster. Love how a game 15 years ago could introduce such a detailed rpg experience, yet a game in last 10 years hasn't even come close to something like that.

Looking at the this I’ve come to a realization, we’ve lost. Gaming is absolutely dry and the games we once loved are now on strings connected to massive corporations, only being used to drag the nostalgic feeling of a good time out of us. I suppose it’s only a matter of time, though I wasn’t expecting these drastic changes to happen so fast. I also feel as if the people pulling the strings are trying to forcefully clear the gaming community’s name, trying to make it known for diversity and whatever other bullshit that most of the gaming community doesn’t even care about, rather than the original sort of Mountain Dew and Doritos and violent fun sort of thing from the earlier 2010’s. I guess that’s kind of required for these people to mold the gaming community into their own little corporate gold mine I guess.

I miss the good old days when i was watching a movie or playing a game with a strong female character they were written that way without literally telling me shes a strong female character. Like The Boss from MGS 3 will never be topped. I read today that Bungie has over 40% women working in high paid positions, now I'm not saying women have no place or any of that trash but I do strongly feel like women don't know what gamers want and I find it troubling why a product has to suffer for this to be overcome, I was watching old Halo documentaries last night and you could really tell that it being a mainly boys club brought out the very best of imagination because some of these men were very cynical about games and used that to go to the most visceral ways to create entertainment for mainly other men.

Unsighted, Risk of Rain 2, It takes two (despite being published by EA), and Dead Cells are indie or sidelined titles developed by smaller studios, not AAA. And the others are the exceptions. There are a ton of amazing games out there including new ones. But most of them are indie games or developed by somewhat smaller studios and publishers. Not in the AAA sphere.
I'm talking about the Assassins creed sequel nr 14 digital deluxe permium pre order gold edt, Far Cry copied and pasted but slightly worse what the previous 3 games did with a different coat of paint. And Dragon Age: the suckers are going to buy it day one because its a recognisable brand.
Those are the type of games that unfortunately represent the gaming industry and is the face of the modern gaming industry. Those are the games and the industry of which I'm talking about in this instance. Not passionate developers breaking new ground with a smaller budget and make generally fun and interesting games:)

The reason why games like Tomb Raider are so iconic, is because the whole story wasn't about Lara being a woman and oppressed by some phantom force. With poc it is atleast more prevalent, primarily for black people. 20.9 percent of shows, had atleast a single black person. But Latinos only have 5.5% representation in shows. And for indigenous people, it is literally 0.1%. But yes we have too much representation.
So yes, while representation has improved, it is not this insane amount you think it is, to the point that it is more prevalent than straight white people.

I've bowed out of newer games years ago due to not having a powerful enough PC, and other than some Nintendo releases there's not too much to look forward to in the major, western gaming market.
Indie devs on the other hand and re-releases of niche titles on the other hand are where it's at for me. Love me some Monster Rancher, or Crimzon Clover. Only trailers that enticed me were The Sonic ones and KOFXV due to an obscure character returning.
I'm all about Fighters, Shmups, and Niche Titles nowadays anyway, but I do like Halo in general.

100%, games have been having lead female protagonists for decades, Lara croft as maybe the biggest example. But they are definitely trying to balance out the female to male protagonist ratio but as you say, if the game is good, who cares
thats what we all say, problem is when this thing is shoved in ppl faces it clearly shows that their priorities are aligned elsewhere, and as it has shown time n again this misalignment leads to real bad games being pushed out in the market
I’m with ya. Nier, RE, Tomb Raider, and Horizons had me liking female protagonists just as much as the male ones as long as they’re written well.

James Bond and Ghostbusters women remakes recently come to mind. why try to put a woman into a male role (circle peg in a square hole)? writers need to create strong female roles.
FemShep is one of my favorite female protagonist in gaming. But it wasn't forced AT ALL. I found out on my 3rd playthrough.

I can't agree with everything you've said here. But before getting into that, I do agree with the overall point here. There is too much virtue signaling and less of a focus on the game itself nowadays and this neglect in appreciating the game in itself is harming the industry.
Some of the examples used to support your point is just super weak or actually incorrect.
I know you haven't played Hellblade and likely don't know much about it, but the first game did not have a UI. That game aimed to be as immersive as possible both to serve its narrative and to give an overwhelming feel to its gameplay. It's an experience you can't get with other games. I agree with it being vertical sliced, but the original game manages to seamlessly weave its cinematics with gameplay several times. I can't write off the trailer as a complete 100% lie because of that. Besides, Hellblade is developed by a middleware team, they're not some AAA studio trying to virtue signal and be political, they genuinely want to create a unique experience.
I do agree that many companies use women solely as a means of virtue signaling and marketing, but it doesn't mean every example of a female protagonist in a game crosses that line. The situation is much more nuanced than that. Female protagonists can be in a game without the purpose of making a statement. I know you're not prejudiced towards women you just care about game, but the WAHMEN counter really doesn't support your point. Virtue signaling on its own would have been enough.
Also, while yes, the nominees chosen for the Game Awards are hella rigged, the gaming community as a whole do at least have the say on the winner chosen out of the nominees. Using who wins to support your point just doesn't work. Did the gaming community vote for Maggie just because "female diverisity?" Did gamers choose Metroid Dread just because Samus is a woman? (Maybe you used them as examples as a joke but if that's the case clearly that joke didn't reach me.)
And finally, you say that the audience wearing masks is virtue signaling. It's easily the worst take in the whole video. Wearing a mask is a serious precaution. Do you think the safety precaution should be ignored? Should everyone's lives be at risk for some integrity? It's either that, or you don't think it's real and that this global issue is just some media propaganda. In that case, I beg for your own sake that you do some proper research with medical resources and not what some random person on the internet said. This is an actual serious matter.
TL:DR I agree with the video, there are just several arguments made that are cringe.
Side note: It Takes Two is genuinely a really great game and deserved the win. That game does not ignore gameplay in the slightest.

The same way media is calling us anti-Vaxxers just because we are not willing to get this single shot. Everyone was becoming immune so the virus just failed to thrive. New variants happen because of hotspots where people are still infected so the virus mutates there and spreads again. The point of vaccine is to prevent this from happening.
The only common side effect should be a feeling a tiredness for 1 or 2 days after being vaccinated. Any other side effects happen due to someone's immune system already being bad. (Which anyone should check with their doctor if they're worried about that)
You can be as healthy as possible, but without proper treatments you'll lose your sense of smell and have a damaged immune system. That happened to a friend of mine.
If your area has no covid issues then yeah, you're more likely to be fine. If you already knew all this then my bad.

That's just the most common proxy, If you've watched his reviews he has no problem with female protagonists(not that there's a problem if anyone does) he has a problem with the side-by-side portrayal of men vs. women.
To put it concisely he has no problem with(most) the characters it's the production it self trying to show themselves as good "allies" to (insert "oppressed" group here).

I respect your opinion that you care about gameplay more than the story, I on the other hand care about both story and gameplay. The story, mainly because I want to know what's going on and which characters are worth rooting for to emotionally invest on. While the gameplay is arguably part of the story, it represents the world of that game in its respectful series. You can't remove story from gameplay and neither vice versa, they both NEED to work together to make a masterpiece of a game worth playing for more than ten years! But...to each his own. I do agree that the gaming industry is dying and the gaming community is being more catered to casual masses rather than the real gamers that made the community so great, oh how the mighty had fallen.

I agree. I think it also depends on which genre of game you like the most. If you're a rpg guy like me you really do care about the story and characters a lot because you want to immerse yourself in a fictional world where something interesting is happen and that has something to tell and mean. If a game has a great story, you will always remember it and come back to play it again once in a while, after years.
If you're a shooter or multiplayer or action guy you could value gameplay much more importantly than story and characters because you just want to "play" and don't care about what's happening and why it's happening.
I think there has to be a very good balance between the two components because if the story is good but the gameplay is bad or boring you just end up watching someone else playing or stop caring eventually

If the gameplay is good but the story and characters are forgettable and uninteresting you won't really remember that game and once you have played it once, you won't play it again (especially when the sequel comes out and the gameplay becomes better than previous game).

@@Manudyne I'm an action guy myself and sometimes play action-RPGs if the story catches my attention. This might vary on which types of people play games in general, but I also care about the story just as much as gameplay even when I play action games like DMC5, old Spider-Man games from Activision, GTA V, Max Payne 3 and Ninja Gaiden Master Collection.
Action-RPGs are supposed to be more immersive than action games, take the soulslike games and the Witcher series for example, they have depth in both setting and gameplay that makes players feel as if they're actually within that world but action games don't have that depth despite them struggling to be taken seriously nowadays with the rise of open world action-RPGs.
Multiplayer games are increasing each year, and this worries most gamers who want to have a single player experience (myself included), it's good for the companies and studios that make and update them constantly, it's faster and easier for them to make expansions, they make more money out of MMOs, battle royale and live services. There's story in them but they feel unfinished and underwhelming to me.
Thank you for your time and as far as I'm concerned, this wokeness had gone too far. Now, I don't have ANY problem with freedom of speech but magnifying and virtue signaling will only make people feel enforced to think and speak like the certain group, not only it'll suppress one's confidence and self-esteem but also one's freedom of creativity. Are there solutions for this? Yes, you just have to have your own group with the same mindset and keep that entertainment fun and alive for yourself and those around you. Encourage them that creativity is limitless and is NOT meant to be controlled by people that don't understand nor deserve it.

Hey, not every game with a female protagonist is a wahmen thing. Tomb Raider (at least not the new ones), Ender Lilies with the little girl protagonist, etc. don't really count because the female protagonist isn't female just for inclusion or whatever. Lara Croft is a badass character that just happens to be a woman, and being a little girl in Ender Lilies has to do with the fact that it's about facing your fears and they needed a protagonist that appears fragile but overcomes the challenge. That being said, I'll also say that 90% of female protagonists are female just for the hell of it.

I agree with a lot of the points in this video, but what's with the woman counter? I don't see anything wrong with having female protagonists in games as long as the fact that they're female doesn't keep getting brought up. It shouldn't matter what gender the protagonist is. it shouldn't be a good thing or a bad thing. It's just a creative decision by the writer.
The thing is tho is that a lot of female main characters in Video Games today are poorly-written, lacking personality, and not attractive anymore due to being “Over-sexualized” especially in the western-made games. Take Bayonetta for example, a female video game character done right imo.
