I can't believe I've been hiking around the state of MN and around the U.S. all these years, and I never understood the damage of going off trail.
I was just at Bryce Canyon last week, and used a person-made trail to go up a boulder. I've also before taken a non-trail path shortcut on a switchback.
You talked about the switchback shortcuts on a recent TikTok. And you went deeper here into why it's important we stick to the trails being managed by the park officials.
Thank you for your content and education! You've changed the behaviors of a one hiker here. :)
Also, great and impactful words about where we are, following last week's election. Thank you for putting yourself out there and speaking up. To help me move forward, I'm using my privilege to be even more focused on philanthropy and volunteerism than I've already been. I've already been a person actively dedicated to supporting work against injustices and work for marginalized communities. The votes of so many in this country just crushed me, but then motivated me. I'll work that much harder. Anyway, I again thank you for using your privilege and platform!

Mary, thank you SO much for this. I hope you know I have a special folder on my phone and my computer that's just "nice things" and I literally screenshot lovely comments like this to save forever. It means the absolute world to me! THANK YOU
