    Great review and great book. One really needs to read multiple WW1 memoirs to get the full picture of what it was like to fight in the trenches. Graves, Jünger, Remarque and Barthas are the four necessary ones for the western front in my view.

      @@MereMortalsBookReviews It's slightly different than these, as it's mostly composed of wartime journal entries, but from what I've read, the best account of the war from a french perspective. You can find it with the title: Poilu: The World War I Notebooks of Corporal Louis Barthas
