    I remember less each day
    Your laugh
    Your smile
    Your gentle way.
    I search my brain
    Then entertain
    The thought of you
    With me again.
    And for a while
    I wear a smile
    But then once more
    You start to fade.
    I try and try
    To only find
    That you’re not here
    And I remain.

Like a broken record, you just repeat.
    Missing lines, skipping beats
    Your notes are random
    Your meaning blurred
You sing a song to me
But I don’t hear any words.
I've seen your heart, I’ve felt the beat
With each note you play, you draw me in
    Enticing strings call my name
Distorted chords you wrote in pain
    They harmonize in sweet accord
And combine to form a perfect melody.
The song you sing cries out to me
    Distorted chords in harmony
Composed from pain; a melodic sympathy
    Perfect symmetry; vivid imagery
    Forged in fire; my affinity
You are my song; a beautiful eccentricity

His eyes were like a kaleidoscope,
Changing colors when he was happy,
    Or when he was sad.
    Changing colours when he cried,
    Or when he smiled.
    They danced between shades,
    And I could never decide
    What colour they really were.
But one day, I found out.
    They were blank,
    Staring up at the sky
    One last time
    With nothing left in them.
    The sparkle was gone,
    And so was he.

I fell in love with you after you died
Into deep brown Mona Lisa eyes
That followed us around the room
From the last taken portrait of you
I held your sister as she cried
    Dressed in your favourite clothes
The liveliest of your household now silenced
And drifting through rooms as a ghost
I listened to your mother as she tried
Tried to thank me for coming to - to -
"He would've liked that you're here
I'm sure he really liked you."
I flinched when your father lied
He smiled, said he was fine
He played us your favourite song
    But... didn't sing along.

My first poem ever, ballad, wrote it when i was 13,
Ever since she drew her last breath,
    She took away my soul.
And forgot to gave me back my heart,
And parts of me she stole.
I asked her just the day before,
    Am i forgiven yet?
With makeup running down her eyes,
    I just cannot forget.
    I should've begged,
    I should've cried,
    Shouldn't have let her go,
    Without atleast, a goodbye hug.
I was as cold as snow.
How dare you leave me all alone?
    How dare you walk away?
I lost my excuse for living,
    Congrats, you made me pay.

Professor Tysdal taught my POETRY 101/INTRODUCTION class. The man was a true gem who really tried his best to bring poetry to life for us. He made class entertaining while still teaching real lessons. I've been blessed with amazing teacher my entire life, but Tysdal is easily a top 5...and I had him in UNI, not high school!
I went to his office hours once for an assignment proposal, and he was so impressed by my idea that he said he would grade the paper himself rather than his T.A...only after being a high school teacher for a few years did I realize that he tricked me. He wasn't impressed by my idea. But he knew that the personalized attention he gave me would make me work harder on the paper, and I did.
Things like that are what make this man a treasure. That, and so, so much more!

    Leonora
    I remember the way
The sun lights up your eyes
    As we laugh, cry, listen
    Sigh under summer skies
    You make my day.
    The light breeze breathes
    Upon your hair
    And your fair face.
    Now I lay down
    On the meadow
    Smiling, laughing
    Crying and sighing
    But all alone
    You are just another memory
    Just another rose
But alas, the rose is plucked
    And laid on a stone.

Thank you so much Daniel 💫💫
Follwoing is a poem that i have written and it gives me pleasure to think that so many people can read it through this comment ,inshaALLAH!❣❣❣
"My thoughts knock at my mind
I know they won't let me sleep
So I yield to their might and
    Break away from the bed
Fireflies and I am running behind
In the thick forest that boggles my mind
And where do they take me?
To a golden tree ,to angelic street
Is it you sawing the trees?
The twirl and the blue eyes
And I'm diving into this ocean bright
Is this the real or just my fantasy
Am I lost in you or you dwell my mind
Can you feel butterflies fluttering inside
Or is it me enamoured by your sight
You are no stranger to me
i cherish you like a childhood tale
    But you elude me everytime
    like a forgotten old play
You pass by me as if i am ghost
untouched ,impassive ,like a cold storm
But I sit in your way watching the clock tick
waiting for you to shine your rays
And in friends ,when you tell the joke
I collapse into gales of laughter
even before you hit the punchline,so
its not real just my fantasy
i am lost in you and you dwell my mind
You cant feel the butterflies fluttering inside
Cz its just me enamoured by your sight
    Memoona Aaqil"
I would love to hear your thoughts on my poem .

Despite knowing the truth I fought to stay
Just so I know you loved my scent everyday
Now everytime I taste your favourite ice-cream
Bittersweet tears roll down my face
Your touched me like my favourite blanket on a rainy night

Here is my amateur poetry even if this video is years old
    You call yourself useless
Not needed in a world like this
    you just never really listened
To the people who're glad you exist
    You dont know their perspective
Of how you saved their life
That in their room of darkness
You came by and stayed as light
    You came to their wasteland
and made flowers grow and bloom
    You never really knew
Their world needed someone like you

Very raw but I am open to criticism. As long as it will help. please be kinda I've never done this before.
    "So Long Love Song"
Your touch was soft like a light wave on the beach
your blonde hair was as golden as the sunset skyline.
My hand is empty like the desert after a sandstorm
    dry, empty, and lonely.
Like a safe with no content my hand is bare.
The warmth of your touch brought chills down my body
a soft fire during winter bringing me comfort.
Now cold to the touch bringing feelings of pain and sorrow.
The haunting image of my tears on your shoulder brings salty streams down my cheek.
Our last hug, our last kiss, our last goodbye, frozen in time.
The lasting memories leaving a feeling of longing inside.

This is my first poem, I’m 14 and only wrote it the other day- I’m becoming interested in poetry:
Every night I lay in bed,
A storm begins to grow inside my head,
Crashing against the walls of my brain,
My thoughts are the thunder and life is the rain.
The illusion of time decides to pass,
as lightning strikes my world: from the sky to the grass,
starting destructive yet beautiful fires of anger and sadness,
I realise that again I am alone with my mind and its madness.
Every single water droplet becomes heavier,
as I reflect over the terrible day that has come to an end,
I think about the people who have agrivated me and stirred up my hate,
the storm is becoming devastating- suffocating the animals that represent my hope
    Is it really worth it?
    Why do I bother?
Why do I get up and deal with the pain of life,
    When I could stay here,
In a world of my own.

    for the first time
    in a long time
    i felt happy.
    laughter echoed against empty fields
only the four of us there to hear it.
pure utter happiness revealed itself to me
as i saw my friends dance,
and look up at the stars,
    and roll down hills.
we all fell into a pile
    and watched the sunset,
exhausted and inspired at the same time.

Also my first attempt of a poem:
    Empty:
    Without thought
    exiled from passion
    days spent distraught
    living with a life-less fashion
    It doesn't burn
I don't know what is real
Life doesnt always take the right turn
    It lacks the right feel
The cold seeping through the window sill
Oh the burn in my fingers, do it I cry
Or just take a damn pill,
When people say their okay, its really just a bitter lie.

Leap onto me with all you’ve got
Don’t make me wait for tomorrow
Find me a cage to shed my anger
    To lose my insanity
And make the wolves look for me
    In this foreign society
    Where everybody loses their mind
    Go flee and run
    Throughout the jungle of worry
    Grasp my soul so tightly
Where your hands grip and slide
With a burn echoing through skin and bones
Hold in your envy and spite
    Until the currents wave back
And crash by the ocean base
During the glistening night of stars
    Cheers to the hollow moon
    Witness of war and heroism
    Once present every night
During the wrong and the right

Lost my dad a few months ago. Been playing the guitar more and learning some songs he liked and used to play. He liked Mr. Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan, so while learning this song and the lyrics, I got to experience the poetry of Dylan's lyrics which has inspired me to write better. Here's the poem I created while watching this talk, recalling a memory of my dad playing guitar quietly in the morning so as not to wake me up.
    Sonrise
Soft strumming in the summers morning.
Like a roosters scream but silenced and somber.
No sleeping eyes can stay so still.
Succumb to the sequence of the subdued sounds.
Song only to the sun, and his slumbering son.

You are the reason I can't sleep.

You are the reason I can't sleep

Great, this is one I made that might fit the you're the reason:
      You're the worst of traitors
Since you came by my side
You came up like a friend
But now you torture me at night
      You're made me forget everything
Or skip anything I used to do
also I still cut me up
And you're the reason for that too
      I now never accept invites
Because I lost the trust in people
      They just always backstab me
So my heart became a hole
      I've had enough I'm not a fighter
So for now I'll say goodbye
I've lost my love and interests
Now I only want to die

How my heart was drawn in
Yet beat faster in your absence
    Obsession became a friend
    And distrust became a habit
My eyes could never meet yours
My words could never reach you
The mirror spoke to me with the image of you staring
Thinking of every picture led closer to the glass shattering
Inevitability took refuge in my thoughts
And went away along with you

    My little sister always cries
When she finds out our daddy's little lies
He says "I'm sorry" and "it's ok"
But again and again he fades away
    The disappointment in her eyes
The lack of readiness towered by surprise
I wish to wipe away these feelings from her mind
She doesn't know he all but loves
That our mothers stories aren't made up
And when she does it will ubrupt
This maturity and this nothing less gain
And she'll wonder why she wailed with pain
Over a man she simply entertained
Over a man who was never there
Over a man that always vanished

a splendid talk. as with literature, poetry suffers because of the air of superiority associated with it, the idea that only a handful of people (all dead, of course) can make good poems, the 'exclusivity' of it -- but all poems are made simply of letters, and of feelings, and of expression. a hat tip to Daniel for breaking down the oft-opaque walls of poetry

Not one second shall pass through the day
    According to the natural way,
Tired and lonely an aged willow weeps
Under the gray sky the soul is weak,
Running from shadows the animal stumbles
A soft hum of a creek so shallow,
Loud with silence and rich with sorrow
In the woods a sad wail of a sparrow
Sharp the crimson colors of fall remain,
May they ever see their struggle’s fade?

My first proper poem I've written, age 16.
(intended to be read/sang like a lullaby)
She’s been heading for the sky
He’ll blatantly just keep her down
Upon the clouds she will fly
He’ll chase her dream but fall and drown
She easily saw past his eyes
He failed to see, became a clown
But when the time came for goodbyes
    Expressed emotion without sound
    Such catharsis he would find
    Contained entirely on the ground
    Forced apart by waking eyes
He wished they never opened now
Her words were betrayed by her eyes
And the scratches he had found
Although he’s glad to see her fly
    My fantasy you stayed around.

A door once opened but now closed
Just like our hearts they stay unknown
Consume my illness but not my soul
Don't be afraid just come close
Darling I know anxiety it takes control
But I promise you I won't let go

ooh I really like this, the continual use of fruit related imagery. The poem really shows how a traumatic event can taint something that used to feel untouched and new.

Gorgeous, vivid, underrated.. reminds me of halseys poetry, who also uses fruit imagery.

I started writing poetry a few years ago, but fell out of it for a time. I'm trying to write some more now, whenever I get an idea. Here's a new one that I'm proud of:
    Roses are red
Sprouting another head in spring's flower bed
    Looking up at the sky
    A clear blue
Watch birds fly away like they fear you
Spot a grazing herd and stop to watch the deer chew
All in memories made as this time's career flew
It's been a whole year too
That I now peer through with the lens of a rear-view
    Twenty-twenty, pure hue
See them all but hear few
Wish I could still hear you
In a memory that appears new
But all I have is this season's grass
    Coated in my tear's dew

    *The Nokia Poem*
    You don’t need an
    iPhone XS,

    Some random text,
    Not so costly
    With little specs,
    Nokia
    Is just few bucks.

I’m 14 and have always liked to write, and since ppl are putting poems they wrote I thought I’d drop this here :D
I wish people could see me how I see me.
Outside I’m loud, quiet sometimes, unremarkable.
But I find, if pulled back,
I am much greater than my persona.
I am forced behind a great wall, hidden from view.
Those who poke or prod climb it.
Peel back the bricks of seeming content and coolness.
And you’ll see the pain, my kingdom, my Atlantis of beauty.
My tears carving ponds and oceans with each drop.
My laughter causing flowers to fill meadows.
A palace built by one’s concern and pure emotion, it shall never fall.
For this place is raw, purposeful and sweet.
Every color a brushstroke, every bud a new interest.
Those outside don’t realize how much they mock.
For this land is beautiful, ever changing and moving.
Its impurities sculpted into statues molded gracefully.
    Pillars, an acropolis of thought.
    Simplicity cherished, love nourished.
If people visited this home of mine, they’d see just how precious it is.
    Ever changing and moving.

im a beginner..i havnt written anything before so this is what i came up with....there is no specific topic for this but temme what you guys think...
    "Sacrifices she made
    Mistakes she forgave
Your love was all she wanted
But you were just too bonded
She left her passions she left her dreams
Just to see how your eyes gleam
She stayed by your side, alone you never cried
Her love was too much her love was too wide
She was a fool, she trusted you
A big mistake that was she never knew
She bore the pain she took the blame
But you were just never the same".

I listened to this talk and then wrote this poem about my middle school guitar teacher who passed away suddenly when I was 12. I’ve kept playing and I’m 20 now:
unrequited buzz of the e string
lays rampant from my tender youth
    technique swift as autumns breeze
to be entranced in the force of your melody
    fleeting notes,
    passive chord switches between us
    feels like a deep breath
    sighing....
    your music becomes mine

    Love this. Mighty helpful.
Interesting that the last point made, was about a frozen lake. It's exactly how the block in my heart, chest, and belly feels.
During inner journeying, I've seen the lake; it's in my forest kingdom.
Will write some poems and songs in the hope that the lake inside will restart to flow like the Great Flow of life's river - one day soon.

And in silence I searched my head, looking for a word, that best describes what I feel as I stare into her smiling, innocently she laughed at my silly jokes and I couldn't pull my eyes away from her face.
The desire to save her number from the company file she just filled. But yet again I delayed, waited till the dark emerges again, and by morning I have found a thousand reasons to deny myself this love

I often replay scenes from the film I have already seen dozens of times
Taking bits and pieces of each picture
    And lying on the ground
reminiscing the scenes worth recalling for my own enjoyment
    It’s comforting
Makes me feel a sense of blissfulness, yet
    Lonesome
I often get lost in a maze full of those bits and pieces that are now prickly thorns and tangled vines
    I’m scared
Why don’t I remember how to escape this maze?
    I’ve seen this film before
    Take me back
I wish I never seen this film that now brings me agonizing torture, yet
    It’s comforting

This speaks to me. I'm a movie geek and just this morning whilst having a morning smoke and coffee I was just saying lines from An American Werewolf in London to myself lol
"and what do you think they'd say? They'd think us mad!"
"Perhaps they'll be safe in the rain"
"You hear that?" "I heard nothin" "nor I"
I love The Slaughtered Lamb scene if you've watched it?
And I wish I could watch my favorite films with fresh eyes again

    No one thinks about me
    As I am alone
    No one trust me
    As I was not wrong
    No one thinks that
    I was not mistaken
    No one thinks that
    As what I have taken
    No one thinks that
What type of problems I have face
    No one thinks that
What I was felling during this case ...
    No one trust me
When I screamed through my heart
    No one with me
When I was crying through my heart
    As yesterday I was alone
    As today I am alone
    Seriously now I didn't want anyone ......
    I want be alone

    Amazed to see how everyone
finds a way to comment section,
    To discover their true reflection.
    Soul searching for a connection.
Born in new body after resurrection.
    Words tie us close
    They tear us apart.
    Thats why we write prose
And fill words into our cart.
Cause they find way to our heart.
    If you like this poem
    It wont cost a cent.
    Now i will vent.
    Now this is the end.

(This is my first time writing poetry. Idk how to at all so I hope this even counts--)
    People surround me
    Hearts full of love
    Smiles full of harmony
I sit here, turning my head to them
    The misery cannot spread
    The void cannot grow
If I stay here forever I will be the only one to know
If I reach for the stars
If I open up to love
    “Will it ever reach them?”
    Is a thought to rest
When I fall below the stars
When I reach the ground when I was already so high
    “Running away”
    Is what they say
    What do I run from?
What is there to run from?
    Questions silenced
    Sirens louder
    I lay here alone
    The floor so cold
    The heart I hold
It all leaves me as I fall below the ground
Covered in a warm embrace of death itself
Then I realise before my eyes shut
    “This was my home”
    The end.

    Your handwritten letter
Is like the morning chirps of birds in spring.
    I recite every word
and let them burn me purposely as a form of punishment.
The pictures that covered every surface of your home
help me recall that familiar warmth that used to hug me.
Everything you were, now reduced to the size of something,
    I store away in boxes.

I know we both felt the same thing
Even though we didn't say it out loud
My naive heart kept falling for you
All my wit was in vain
But little did I know, it was our fate so all I could do was to wait ❤

Your thoughts welcomed me once again
Then I looked for you in all faces again
Your presence lacks and my heart cracks
    But the love remains intact
I never knew emotions were too fragile
Until one day I saw a teary pile
I climbed up the hill again just to see you in a chaotic maze
I felt dizzy too as there was a haze
But I am not complaining just observing my growth
As invisioning a future without you is becoming a reality
I know, I just know it hurts and the heart breaks
But to heal this is what it takes
