I was watching an old Massad video. While mentioning the top shooters of the time, he mentioned this young guy coming up the ranks that they should all be looking out for. Some kid named Michael Seaklander.
Thank you. This type of content is exactly the kind of thing that I am looking for on this platform. I'm currently in the process of trying to sharpen my sword, so to speak. More importantly. I have 3 sons, and am always looking for ways to teach marksmanship, macro/micro tactics, and combat mindset. This content is so valuable to someone like me because it simplifies physical tweaks that aren't so easy to effect for new shooters (and aging ones also).
Definitely going to try this soon I have put so much into my pistol shooting over the last few years that I haven't worked on anything else and has been great for pistol shooting but crap for my rifle. Great job
EXCELLENT video (as always with Mike); thank you. I also suggest that these recommendations apply to any rifle (bolt, lever, slide), not only to semiautomatics such as AR’s. Please left me know if I’m mistaken. Thanks, again.
Great tips. I think high mounts are so popular right now because shooters aren’t mounting the buttstock high enough. They know not to bring the head down, but instead of shouldering higher they’re raising the optic with high mounts and ruining any chance of a proper cheek weld and the accuracy that goes with it.
I recently put a Brownell's A2 length stock (with rifle extension and buffer) on my 16" mid-length aero, just for the hell of it, to see if it would work. Not only does it cycle fine, but I'm so much more consistent with a solid stock as opposed to an adjustable one.
I prefer an A1 length stock, but that depends upon your body size (I have a 32" sleeve length). If you are under 6' tall, an A1 length might work better than A2. YMMV.
I'm glad to see you bringing these points up! I have to think of puppies and kittens for about 10 seconds every time I see someone significantly blade off with a low recoil long gun or carbine, or drop their head down to their iron sights or optic. I often ask people if they drop their head down to their arm when they point with their finger at a distant object. NO! You bring your hand and finger up into your line of sight. That's the natural way to aim. Bring the optic to your eye, not vise versa. This is great stuff for beginners or great refresher training for those with more experience.
I will try these tips because I just bought a IWI ZION 15 and I cant hit center or a target at 25 yards. I know that this rifle is a tack driver so it has to be me. Thank you for the valuble information!
Great Video!!! I'm an "Old Marine Corps" shooter. I do not like the "off hand forward" position on the handguards. Tried it and did not like it. I see it a lot nowadays and I guess it works for some? Not sure when it became fashionable.
Thanks for sharing your experience. IMO, it would have been more enlightening to have observed A vs B comparisons between dissimilar stances/holds, and with .223 and .308 cartridges from the AR platform, not the 9mm powder-puff load.
Both 9mm carbines and 5.56 rifles have very little recoil. Stance, grip, sight picture doesn’t change just because you are shooting a different caliber. Body mechanics matter far more than rifle caliber when talking about shooter accuracy.
Those are some awesome tips. I'm going to try that shoulder mounting style with my .300 Win mag elk rifle or my 7mm mag BAR truck gun. Yes sir, put the stock right on your collar bone.......lol
Agree, mostly pistol shooter here too, but some rifle and shotgun for work... and a little martial arts. Center / square to target tought for all of them
This was extremely useful. The government Covid policies have devastated the supply chain ruining my industry . I can’t afford a carbine class. Thank you for giving me something to practice dry fire or live fire.
Keeping my elbow in tight is the biggest issue I have with my movement. Im good standing still but when I stat moving my elbow works out to about 6"-8" off my side and I don't even notice till im done. But im still pretty new so 🤷
For an AR-9, 9mm JHP +P, Speer, Hornaday, Federal, Winchester. They all have good options. 5.56, any of them really. If you want expansion or are concerned with over penetration, soft points or tumble on impact.
Tip #2 is great, but that raises a question. What about stock mounting challenges for women of a larger bust line? Not everyone is the same so everyone can't utilize the socially acceptable "standards".
My AR15 isn't nearly as fun. I think the stock trigger is just way too heavy. What's the pull weight on your AR? You are easily able to pull the trigger so quickly. Mine just refuses to run that fast. I'm not enjoying its clunkiness.
I have not found a single position or technique that works for every shooter and every firearm. I teach students the basics and let them experiment to determine what suits them best.
Great instruction. Chicken wing sticking out, butt on point of shoulder and straining neck to get cheek weld all play to bad technique and results in to much time to engage.
Not a good lesson. A GREAT LESSON. I shot my m16 for the first time in 1977 Body Armour? Whats that. Anyway learned more great info in these minutes. I was taught boxers stance and meat of shoulder (pocket) but your last tip was golden! Thank you, yes keep it coming!
?? Are handguns that come with one magazine worth buying??. Dont wanna buy extra mags. I want the magazines to hold majority of the box of ammo. May trade my 1911 for a carbine.
I am old school and disagree with both of your first two examples. I feel as though you have created the poor body position that cause the unnecessary weak conditions. If one is not square with the target but facing nearly 90 degrees away from the target and leaning toward the target this results in the shoulder being in a natural rear most position and cannot be pushed any farther back. It also aligns the shoulder, firearm and leg, bracing/anchoring the entire line of fire, from the muzzle all the way to the ground. The squared off stance is also bad form, in my opinion. Just look at anyone shooting a heavy caliber gun. There is no way anyone is going to take a square stance. They will be on there butt is blink of an eye. One has much more control from a traditional stance. Just my 2 cents and 50 plus years of shooting. To each his own.
The recoil on a 9mm carbine is almost non existent. I agree with most of your lessons, but if you're going to teach AR recoil control you should probably use the full size cartridge for your example.
This good content and everything works! However, as an instructor myself, Mike (and/or curricula creators) need to work on not alienating the audience/students. When you tell someone they’re doing it WRONG you turn them off. There are more appropriate ways to modify behavior by educating people. Just my two cents, carry on!
LOL I'd like to see that, a government tried that in 1776,the people didn't stand for it. What's best for the kids is to learn how to use firearms as young as possible!
You're not going to see much of anything. At best you'll see the age limit raised to 21 for an AR and Senate funding for Red Flag laws in states that opt to do so. You're not even going to see a tax on AR purchases in an election year with several Democrats in "Purple" states like mine. This is something they don't want right now as the Democrats are heavily favored to lose the House and probably Senate seats as well which you can thank Biden, CA and NY Far-left Democrats for. "The People" have seen enough of this lunacy.
This is the stupidest thing I think I’ve ever read the Internet and that’s saying a lot. What’s best for the kids is to protect them and not leave them exposed like we do but you’re clearly too stupid to realize that
We want to hear from you too! Are you going to give these 3 keys a try? Do you want to see more Mike Seeklander tips?
Always welcome!
Heck yeah please
Yes also with pistols
Useful tips, thanks for posting!
Yes Mike is great - I’m trying these tips out this week on my shooting practice day
Mike I loved The Best Defense series
These videos with Mike are outstanding! We want more of these!
I was watching an old Massad video. While mentioning the top shooters of the time, he mentioned this young guy coming up the ranks that they should all be looking out for. Some kid named Michael Seaklander.
These are some of the most straightforward and informational videos on TH-cam. Great job.
good to see that this man knows his stuff, he is old school. very good, I congratulate you.
Thanks for listening

Yes we want to see more of Mike! A sight picture video as a follow up to the pistol trigger control video would be awesome!
Definitely going to try this soon I have put so much into my pistol shooting over the last few years that I haven't worked on anything else and has been great for pistol shooting but crap for my rifle. Great job

I like all of WC videos. Keep them coming !
And stay prayed up 🙏🏻 everybody! ✝️😍
Thanks guys. Your site adds a lot to our shooting.
“Every time you fire, your gun is telling you something, you need to learn how to understand what it’s telling you” fantastic line!

Great simplistic tips and drills to conduct. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great tips from Mike!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Helping me to do the basics and do them WELL.
If I can do that, I'm a happy camper...
Great Video!!! I'm an "Old Marine Corps" shooter. I do not like the "off hand forward" position on the handguards. Tried it and did not like it. I see it a lot nowadays and I guess it works for some? Not sure when it became fashionable.
This.....was fantastic. Thank you very much!
Wilson is about the 1911 platform,a dated platform ,I have shot several and can appreciate the quality though, and a good investment.
Great video boyz. Need more like this.
More to come!
Good advice for new AR owners and even some old ones!
Some how I've managed to live past my 70th birthday. Still shooting, and still learning! Range time is nice... even now.
Great tips; more please!
More to come!
Great Video Gents! Thank-you!
🤠👮🏻♂️🇺🇸👍👏👏👏🧐👋
Thanks for the great tips.
Thanks for the 411! Saved for future reference.
Outstanding job 👍🏼
These are great videos, keep them coming. But I can't help but notice that you're using a pistol caliber carbine while demonstrating recoil control.
Some really good content I greatly appreciate it
Awesome info thanks Wilson Combat.
No problem 👍
Thank You sir always good information 👍🇺🇸
Right on
Mike, are you running frangible bullets? What was the distance?
Awesome practical advice, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I liked it, yes more Mike Seeklander is always good!
Good info. Thank you Sir.
Very welcome
Great tips Mike...Thanks!
You bet!
Thanks for sharing your experience. IMO, it would have been more enlightening to have observed A vs B comparisons between dissimilar stances/holds, and with .223 and .308 cartridges from the AR platform, not the 9mm powder-puff load.
9mm carbines are typically straight blow-back, and as a result have more felt recoil than you might expect.
Both 9mm carbines and 5.56 rifles have very little recoil. Stance, grip, sight picture doesn’t change just because you are shooting a different caliber. Body mechanics matter far more than rifle caliber when talking about shooter accuracy.
Three very good recommendations. I need to try it.
Please do!
Great instruction. Thank you!
Great video, I never get the stock that centered, it appears I have some work to do!
Great job.
It's good advice from a great team.
Thank you!
Thank you. Subscribed
Will definitely try these. Really good video. Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Great video/training for responsible firearm owners.
Good stuff to work on. Thanks!
Great Video.
Thanks
great tips, will give them a try soon
Those are some awesome tips. I'm going to try that shoulder mounting style with my .300 Win mag elk rifle or my 7mm mag BAR truck gun. Yes sir, put the stock right on your collar bone.......lol
These videos are amazing
Good stuff Mike !
I'm 99.99 percent a pistol shooter. The squared-up stance is really important there too. Great video, thank you.
Agree, mostly pistol shooter here too, but some rifle and shotgun for work... and a little martial arts. Center / square to target tought for all of them
Awesome. Thanks
You bet!
This was extremely useful. The government Covid policies have devastated the supply chain ruining my industry . I can’t afford a carbine class. Thank you for giving me something to practice dry fire or live fire.
Thanks!
Would love to have 2 hours one on one if you do that tell me how to schedule it whatever you charge would be well worth it. Thank you again
Very good tips!
Keeping my elbow in tight is the biggest issue I have with my movement.
Im good standing still but when I stat moving my elbow works out to about 6"-8" off my side and I don't even notice till im done.

really helpful, thanks so much
You're welcome!
Love it.
Wow I had no idea. Thanks .
Happy to help
Great tips. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Good info. Thank you!!!👍😊🇺🇸
Our pleasure!
Really excellent advice
Glad it was helpful!
This is a great video. Thank you for putting it out. Taught me something u was doing wrong
Glad we could help
Awesome!
Thanks!
Nice
What are good bullet(projectile) choices for short range in 9mm and 5.56? Thanks!
For an AR-9, 9mm JHP +P, Speer, Hornaday, Federal, Winchester. They all have good options.
5.56, any of them really. If you want expansion or are concerned with over penetration, soft points or tumble on impact.
Great vid.. what predominantly are the targets here? People?
We should of let the Japanese crush your island and take your women.
Looks like steel plates to me.
Tip #2 is great, but that raises a question. What about stock mounting challenges for women of a larger bust line? Not everyone is the same so everyone can't utilize the socially acceptable "standards".
I can sum up any tips that Mike gives as “Need to Heed”!
From a body math stand point it makes good since.
My AR15 isn't nearly as fun. I think the stock trigger is just way too heavy. What's the pull weight on your AR?
You are easily able to pull the trigger so quickly. Mine just refuses to run that fast. I'm not enjoying its clunkiness.
Great tips. If you are not seeing the dot after the shot, your shooting scared.
Hi all.
What rifle, and caliber was he using in this video?
Wilson Combat AR9 9mm
I have not found a single position or technique that works for every shooter and every firearm. I teach students the basics and let them experiment to determine what suits them best.
These skills will really be required to effectively control the wrath and *fury* of 6.8x51mm military pressure ammunition.
I have my ar9 to protect my ar15.
I have the same but in reverse. My AR15 protects my AR9. But my AR10, protects them all.
Great instruction. Chicken wing sticking out, butt on point of shoulder and straining neck to get cheek weld all play to bad technique and results in to much time to engage.
Where is your hat? you need to cover that head man,,, it is Shining !
No Chicken wing?
Good tips
Thanks, great tips!

try this crap with a .458 Winch Mag and Good Night!
Sell and get a bolt gun. Twice as accurate third of the price
Sell? Having both is twice the fun!
And 1/4 the speed.
The recoil on a 9mm carbine is almost non existent. I agree with most of your lessons, but if you're going to teach AR recoil control you should probably use the full size cartridge for your example.
Odd he would use a 9mm,then he says AR type, why not put that in the title?
@@paulscountry456 It makes for quick, easy, and accurate follow up shots.
Eliminate the music playing under the instructions.
Pistol carbines don’t make sense to me.
Shot a AR at staring range of 100mt out to 500mt ... anything under 50 is pistol range 🤪

well interesting choice of posting given all the school shootings recently, might we say politically stone deaf?
Scrap it.
Please stop the background music.
The G-MAN is gonna take your toy away...so enjoy for a little longer....sorry its best for the kids.....
You can try
🤣
