I’ve watched countless grip technique videos over the years. This is literally the only video anyone ever needs to watch. By explaining what not to do and showing what you should do at the same time, this covers everything perfectly and promptly. Great stuff.

all grip technique videos need to be prefaced with "do chin ups and deadlifts to develop your grip" because you need a minimum level of grip strength to perform these techniques

    • @m4rvinmartian
      @m4rvinmartian ปีที่แล้ว

ACTUALLY... everything about it is wrong. And I am amazed that this keeps going.
VERY SIMPLE PHYSICS EQUATIONS show that all "grip mastering techniques" are utter bullsh.
At this point I am very convinced that there is a plot to have everyone have the worst possible grip on pistols, so if things ever kick off, everyone will be disarmed immediately.
Everyone else's grip, I can take a gun away from you in 5s.
With MY grip, lol... I can pull you onto the ground with my gun. Almost a judo move.

You are the best teacher i have ever had. I noticed with years of doing one shot accuracy, I don't grip the pistol as hard as I should. I also lose sight picture when I have more muzzle flip. I'm going to go back to shooting one shot drills and watching my sight picture. If I lose sight picture, I know I ruined my grip.

When I use to attend Government Schools
    or firearm schools that
    my supervisors wanted
me to attend I had one
philosophy. Now that was after 25+ years of service.
It was very simple I may have had more or less experience
    than the instructor. But I
could always learn something from the class.
    I found that always true
    as a government employee,
    a firearms instructor, both
    for military & police &
    as an instructor pilot.
To the persons making the video thank you!!!👍😊🇺🇸

Mike, sometime ago I watched a video here with Mr. Wilson and. Ayoob on the low thumb grip much like the revolver grip. And I have been using it for almost a year now and I have to say I’m very satisfied with my results. Plus I also like the fact that it’s a grip that I can use with pistol, revolver and if I have to shoot with one hand it’s more secure grip on the weapon. Thanks for sharing.

Fine vid Sir! I am ancient and have a badly crippled left hand that I must be careful with do to my continuing work as a guitarist (not real big on being a “cripple” as true with most people who deal with a handicap….we adapt and move forward) so my grip is pretty messed up. I can still deal with a 1911 but pressing both hands together even close to as tightly as you show is just not possible. I use a modified weaver stance and make adjustments there to mitigate recoil. This was a superb vid. I will be conscious regarding the high strong (right) hand grip. I bet I can improve with that. Thanks

Really good stuff. I discovered your steps as I finally got my health and got back on the range after three strokes. Also, I just switched to a red dot reflex sight (not co-presenting with the front sight) on my Steyr L9A1. It was almost like starting over, even though I have been shooting since I was a young kid and I am now 56.... The high grip, along with the tight pressure on the weapon actually made me look like I knew what I was doing after 300-400 rounds downrange. Thanks man.

Mike, just saw this. Though I've had your "Your Defensive Handgun Training Program" for about a week, this video is a fantastic companion to the book and absolutely the best instructional piece I've seen anywhere on developing a good grip. I've shot well over a thousand rounds already with my 3 month old M&P 9 M2.0 Metal, but have not been able to get rid of either the recoil anticipation problem (though that has gotten a little less bad) or other gun movement issues. After watching this video several times I think I know why.
I am eager to get out to the range today to begin working on my grip in accordance with the absolutely clear and spot on instructions you have provided to us novices in this great video. Thanks much for all you do. (I've watched several other of your videos and they are all good. But this one ranks up there as one of the best, IMO.)

I'm SOOOO glad he cleared that up for me about rotating your left hand and palm down. Lots of people teach that but it's just NOT right and doesn't feel natural. I should have known better

Great lesson.. I used to teach safety classes with handguns and how to use it to shoot good enough and the too low of a grip with strong hand happened almost always.. It was so hard to get people to grip high enough, especially if they didn't have a gun with a beaver tail.
    Love this channel.
    Thanks so much..

Great presentation! On my compact pistols I use a finger around the trigger guard. For me, at 70 years young, my upper body strength isn't what it was 20 years ago. This method, in conjunction with your points help me control muzzle flip! I do see the dynamics of your system being great for people just starting to shoot as well as is old geezers! By this I mean that if a young shooter starts the "correct" way he will be a solid shooter hopefully? 5 decades ago we didn't have you- tube, LOL!
    Best to us',,,,!

Hi Walter. I'm an instructor with my states wildlife commission and I concentrate mostly on brand new shooters. With the recent developments in our ever changing world I have been quite busy as you can probably imagine. I have many older shooters (and I'm not that far behind you) that are buying guns and getting training, and I see the gripping around the trigger guard quite a bit. If it's working for you and you aren't losing contact and having to readjust then I say to keep doing it along with the great tips Mike laid out in this very good video. One thing I have been incorporating into the platform is to lock your support arm and leave a bit of slack in your strong arm. This was suggested by a federal LEO trainer buddy of mine when discussing those of us who are losing hand strength. It sends the bulk of the energy into your non dominant shoulder allowing you to remain on target and not having to re grip. Hope it helps. Great to know you guys are still hitting the range. I sleep better knowing good men are training at every age. Be well and God bless.

@@bennettprice3968 First Thank-you for your reply. I see a lot of competion shooters as well as SPEC-OP's guys doing videos on the proper pistol grip. Mike's video is one that is just to the point. Now, I was watching Jerry Mikulek's daughter Lena shooting and she used two fingers around the trigger guard. Then Massad Ayoob's "Wedge Grip". Rob Leatham and Ken Hackathorn has videos as well. So there is an abundance of information out there.
30 years ago I could shoot the cent out of a playing card at 15 yards with a plain jane Colt Military issued pistol. Today I concentrate on getting a good hand size group at 15 yards or more.
Now, you being just a little younger that me will remember that unless a person was military or L.E. you were pretty much on your own developing your skills. Plus, the selection of handguns was almost nothing compared to today! The problems many younger shooters face now is getting a "Solid" person who really knows what they are doing to give them proper training. A reliance solely on You-Tube isn't a great educational diet. People have to research and really Vette the people they are going to listen to.
      Be Blessed!
      Best to ya',,,,!
