I’m a high school sophomore, and I have a teacher who keeps a giant roll of toilet paper in his room because like he just gets them for free at the school. He has it in place of Kleenexes and paper towels. If students (or himself even) want food, we have to rip off toilet paper from the roll, and quickly open our snack and take it out and put it on the toilet paper. Even if we have a granola bar or something, we have to take it out the wrapper. He hates the constant sound of the chip bags and stuff all the time. Another thing - my 6th sense isn’t like candy or chips or anything… my 6th sense is donuts. I know when there are donuts around because I can smell them. I work at dunkin so I’m used to donuts and coffee 😂😂.
Michigan passed a bill this year that all kids at public schools get free food for the whole school year! I don't have kids but I think this should be the standard across all public schools. No kid should feel bad about lunch
TAKIS!! 🤣 the kids at my school drive me NUTS with takis. Always sharing with their friends, bringing the biggest bag they can, their taki fingers everywhere. Haha. They tried to get me to bring takis for the whole school for the last day of school! Told them there was no way I was buying takis for 500+ students 😂
Me and my science teacher don't trust the blue Takis! We're both like "Why the heck are these things blue?" Also, teenagers are stupid sometimes lol. They don't understand that a fellow teenager does not have the funds to buy over 500 bags of Takis 🤣🙄like, we do not have 1,500 dollars! Where do you think we are getting this money!? You'd have to babysit a LOT of children for that 🤣 also, I am not purchasing snacks for over 400 people I do not know!
@@stereotypea123 🤣 sometimes, yes! I’m in elementary and they always eat the blue heat ones at breakfast so a lot of us teachers have said we get assignments back with blue fingerprints in the morning way too often! I like spicy food, but not that early in the day!! Haha
The thing about carrying school lunch back to your classroom and feeling embarrassed--for me, it's a reminder of the few times I had to stay in the classroom at lunch because I didn't finish work or my teacher wanted to talk to me. It's the anxiety about being in trouble plus the pain/fomo of being separated from friends.
I’m working as an educator at a private school in Mississippi and I would absolutely love to hear Brie talk more about working at a public school in the south
the district i teach in has free breakfast and lunch. the food is really good too. the district my kids go to does not participate in any school food funding and my senior spends about $10 a day. he goes for double bacon cheeseburgers and french fries most days. they have sushi day, taco day with real tacos, and wing day as specials. they also have a full on coffee shop that’s basically a starbucks.
Salt and Vinegar chips and black licorice. Both so good! I recently found Finnish (and Icelandic ) black licorice covered in chocolate, and I’m hooked!
How is it that the school district right next to each other can be so different. The healthy lunch in some districts are over cooked and over frozen microwave meals are we really teaching them that this over processed food is good for them.
That intro is fabulous! Tell is EVERYTHING! This Philly born and raised gurl approves of the Phillies fit. You all snacking during the video = hilarious😂
In middle school we would buy fries Or Mr Gatti’s pizza. Go to high school in 2002-all fried foods-banned, no candy but chocolate was ok. No caffeinated drinks 🙄 but we would order pizza and Chinese, and have it delivered when lunch period started lol
Pizzelle are not just an Ohio thing. They are an Italian wafer cookie that is usually flavored with anise, a spice that tastes like licorice. Don't worry Loren, you aren't crazy.
When I was in school they took my tray away because they couldn't find me in the system. Even though I went to school there and I just had to go without food that day. So I feel so bad for students that have to deal with that all the time. Especially some of my friends I went to school with always had their trays taken away from them.
I grew up in Ohio and I always loved the No-bake cookies!! To this day my brother and I talk about them and it has been over 25 years since I was in highschool. I also now make them regularly for my kids.
For my middle school Chef's Choice pizza was the worst. It was that rectangular pizza with thousand island dressing instead of tomato sauce, cheese, and french fries on top. It was so nasty. I just didn't eat lunch those days
Our school is so against giving any kind of sugar to kids that one day a parent brought in cupcakes for a birthday, and the teachers scraped the icing off before they handed them out to the kids.
Speaking of allergy’s I’m allergic to butterscotch. I will literally break out in hives. Also I live in Mississippi and can confirm that the cafeteria food could be literally used as a punishment
Coffee is actually both a stimulant and a depressant. The initial metabolic response is as a stimulant, then it has a delayed, countering depression in your brain as it compensates from the preceeding up. Was a cool contradiction I learned about in my psych graduate work, learning how immune system and brain chem changes affect behaviour. It why chronic or excessive coffee makes people feel dragged out a lot.
Back when I was in high school we were so broke that I would just mix random condiments from the condiment bar and eat that for lunch. I liked to mix the pickles and carrots or jalapeños and pineapple. 😂
My school had an ice cream machine. So everyday you could buy some for $2 or for your birthday you could get some for free. We also had strawberry and vanilla milk along with the chocolate and regular milk
We are not allowed to buy school lunch. All the food needs to go to the kids, I tried to buy lunch and the wonderful lunch ladies said they were not allowed to sell teachers food.
Those cookies that we could but at lunch was the best!! I wonder if, like most snacks from our younger years, they would still taste good. They were undercooked and delicious!! 😊
Especially at my high school the teachers would comment on the kids mostly girls ghat would have Starbucks every morning . My favorite time of the week was when we in elementary school would either get dominoes pizza or papa Johns and all so the different flavors of milk like one my school would get was root beer float flavored. In high school in California we had multiple carts we could purchase chips, candy , fresh baked cookies, ect from and they have personal sized pizzas in them then we also had vending machines with chips, candy , big Texas cinnamon rolls ,ect and then there was a program called JROTC and they had a store they sold cup of noodles, ice cream , chocolate, Gatorade , honey buns iced or glazed, ect . And my favorite lunch lady was named Mary but everyone called her mrs moo
Hi Bree, I’m from Oklahoma, our school lunches are nasty. They are made in some huge factory and reheated. Our cafeteria workers do a great job but when you have crap to serve like “is that cat or what ?” yeah
😂 we just took red dyes out of our kids diet lmao. They currently don't like us... I remember eating the sugar covered orange slice gummies with my grandpa and then he always had the cans of cashews. Those are my faves. I appreciate my kids school so much because if they don't finish breakfast quick enough so they can bring them to class. My biggest thing is thinking my kids are hungry. They will grab a granola bar before we leave but they like school breakfast so I'm like just hurt and don't dilly dally.
When I was in elementary school, let's not talk about how long ago that was, the school I went to made their own bread and buns, so when it was cheeseburger day, it was the best. My job was to sell the milk during our lunch and the super sweet ladies in the kitchen would save me a cinnamon roll because they would sell out so quickly. I haven't thought about that in years.
Having been a teachers side myself and worked in 3 different schools, I warned my sister, whose oldest child, my niece, started kindergarten this 24-25 year, that she will be secretly judged on what she sends to school for my niece to eat, whether it be a snack or lunch. She was like “what do I send” and I gave suggestions on things to send.
Vt kids eat breakfast and lunch free. Have for several years. During the pandemic the school district I was in also delivered breakfast and lunch to everyone that wanted it - teachers/ staff rode the school bus and went on the normal routes to deliver the food.
