"So....Uh When thing's go South...You can atleast avoid, East....or West." The above is a great example of why I find Mr. ShortGames videos so entertaining. I like that he doesn't edit out incomplete thoughts or commentary that doesn't go exactly as planned. He's refreshingly unpretentious! Plus, I learn & see new stuff! I believe Mr. ShortGame may be the only Golf Related content that I watch regularly, that doesn't have an English accent? 🇺🇸
Conduct your own informal study at he first tee of your next round and note how many slice, cut or hit the ball to the right, for RH golfers that is. 90% may not be completely right but it can't be far off. I watched 4 groups tee off in front of me and my group yesterday and all but 1 player hit to the right.
Wow! I bought the alignment sticks and used your method! I finally stopped hooking left and my shots got a lot straighter! Finally broke 90 and also almost broke 80. I shot an 84 but should’ve broke 80, I played the last two holes while getting dark with an LED glow ball lol. Thanks for the great tips! I watch your videos all the time! Thanks again! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I love #2! At first I said: "What?" Play my Driver in the center??? That's Ludicrous!!!" but then the Tilt! Middle Set-up & TILT" into the proper address position. Well that's an excellent, easy way to get into the proper position, yet I've never heard it explained so succinctly! Great Tip & Video!
Went to the range on Saturday with your tips..omg keeping that elbow in helps so much. I remember learning this years ago but lost it along the way thanks heaps.
Hi from Scotland love your videos and go back to ones ive watched in the past when i pick up bad habits your my go to guy for tips.keep up the good gold and the great videos
Thanks Matt! Just ot done with 9 today in light rain. First drive was a bomb down the center for just under 300yds. I kept pulling in my club for the remainder of my drives at the last second causing my drives to aggressively hook. I knew what I was doing, but it was mainly a mechanical alignment issue that I couldn't mentally compensate for. Looking forward to watching this again and getting it right on the range. There's nothing like looking like a decent golfer on paper only to see you screw up a whole 9 holes.
Last of those tips I needed. I love my draw flight. Especially here in Texas. But man when it turns over to much, it’s gone. Can’t wait to practice that last one.
Going left is primarily from coming over the top. Most amateurs come over the top and swing left. So now you get a pull or a pull slice or a pull hook depending on the face angle at impact. I agree with everything MSG is saying but fix the over the top first and foremost. There are tons of instructions out there to fix it. Find one that works for you. MSG mentioned it briefly if you listen carefully. Keeping that elbow in is one way. Great video. Alignment is certainly a super fundamental. Enjoyed it. I enjoy all your stuff and the podcasts are great too.
Thanks for this informative video. Two tips - setting hands back at address and club to target/feet slightly left - are different than other tips I've gotten. Will try them out. My irons are fine but I get that occasional pull with my driver that is a game breaker. Question: I've had 2 back surgeries (L5/S1) so I've had to shorten my swing which also creates issued with a pull. Any advise with those of us who have to have a shorter backswing?
A couple of years late to the party but this is exactly what I need! I’ve recently changed my driver setup and I’m striking the ball a lot better, but have started pulling a lot of shots left… think steps 3 and 5 could be the keys for me! Defo will give a go at the range tonight! 👍🏻🏌🏻⛳️
I always find your tips very useful to me. Now i am heading to where i used to be ... breaking 80. Thank you so much for all your effort to teach us. Respect and greeting from Indonesia.
Thank you. Awesome tips. I look back at how many times I tried to hit right to avoid left and my swing just fell apart after this. I look forward to using this on the course.
Dear Mr. Short Game Thank you, for all your tips they've really been helping my game, so much so I'm finally beating my buddies. If you could, please do a video on how to help me talk trash, to my friends who I am now dominating
Good advice. I had my right ankle replaced. For 8 yrs. I couldnt put a lot of weight on that ankle. It was already folded to the right. Hard to transfer my weight. Anyway.. I now can transfer my weight. Then I pulled all my shots. Got my irons bent 1 degree flat. That helped. I saw a pic of my swing. My right elbow wasnt tucked in. just out a little. My right shoulder looked like it was coming over the top. Pull... My driver the same way. My left arm wasnt straight at contact. Could you do a video or you may have. i will check. With the arm tucked and the shoulder overt the top. I went from a 6 hcp to a 20. Missing every thing left. Big draws to pulls. Going to stop playing.
Matt, if I want to play a draw , will keeping my right elbow in tight allow me to draw the ball.Have trouble at times controlling the amount of draw. How do I just want a baby draw not big hook.
I get the elbow with irons and my problem is not with irons going left. I go left with the driver. Making solid contact but left. Does the elbow tucked in work with the driver too?
I thought I was always square with the club face until the day I put a small rod with a magnet at one end. Put it on the club face. Found the club face was pointing a little to the left. Fixed what I thought were pulls instead of misalignment.
I stopped aiming right and made sure my toe wasn’t off the ground. Making sure the whole club was flat on the ground made me stand a little taller and felt weird at first but I struck the ball much better today and fixed a lot of my misses to the left . I still missed left but not near as much plus I actually missed a couple of times to the right which never happens.
I was driving the ball so well but now that I’m a good iron player I suck at driving but I know what I’m doing wrong bc of this video thanks mr short game with my long game lol
Matt - to start the downswing do you turn the chest, dragging passive arms down into the ball, or do you mostly pull the left arm with left shoulder? Reason I ask is that I have been practicing to crank up my swing speed by swinging arms faster and my left shoulder is getting sore. This can't be the right way.
As far as alignments I agree with you, but one little problem. If the ball alignment stick is aimed to the middle of the fairway and the feet alignment stick is perfectly parallel, then the feet alignment stick is actually aimed 3 feet left of the center of the fairway.
Great reminder tips! I did notice that the iron that you are using in the video is a Ben Hogan PTX Pro. Did you just put a set of these in your bag, or are you gaming the Titleist T200's that you did a previous video about?
@@MrShortGame How do you like the feel of the Hogan's vs. the Titleist T200? I'm in the market for new irons and I've hit the Hogan's and recently the Titleist T200's, as well as Mizuno, Callaway, and TaylorMade. I think the Hogan PTX Pro irons feel the best of all the other clubs I've hit. How did you decide to game these?
Your fifth tip had to do with keeping your right elbow close to your body. You were using an iron when you explained this. Does this tip apply when hitting a driver?
Great tips, especially the hand placement! I have my hands too far forward. Also, tried to buy your practice stick cover but not available on Amazon. Where do I get it now? Thanks and keep it up!
Now I've to check my hand position because this off season I implemented a Long & Mid Iron Ball Striking "Pro" Tip that puts my hands in a much more pronounced, forward position, to the point where the club is delofted by 25-30%. The Lesson/Pro Tip claims that the best ball strikers on Tour, deloft their long and middle irons by 25-30%. It seems to be working well, from a contact pov, but I've only been able to do it into my little in-house net set-up, so the only feedback I get is from the feel at impact (solid or otherwise) and to a lesser degree, how the ball is launched in the first 3 or 4 yards. I must admit, after seeing this video, I am a bit worried! I hope this new "Pro Move" doesn't equal FAR LEFT!!! :(
I must be wierd coz you said if I aim right I’m gonna come over the top well that makes me slice it. Then if I push my hands forward it doesn’t make me pick up quicker and pull it left, I push it right.
Fore left is the bane of my existence! I think with driver it’s my feet. With irons it’s my hands to far forward. I will practice these tips when I tee off in 2 hours 🏌️♂️
Left is dead on atleast 12 holes on my home course. I have been known to aim more right and snap hook it, now I just align a little left and hit it straight or fade
90 plus percent of recreational players go right, going left is not the primary issue. A large percentage of better (single digit or less) players are the ones who have the left issue, but then its usually a two way miss for most of these players
Dicks golf rep said i go left because my clubs are too long. I've noticed in my last round when I choke up on all my clubs I hit the ball better. Should I spend the money for a club fitter.
All that you say makes sense but I disagree with the shaft being in line with your shirt buttons. I've never seen a golf instructor NOT emphasize foreward shaft lean with the ironss in order to pinch the ball. You can have a lower right shoulder and still have varying degrees of foreward shaft lean. What am I missing?
Finally someone that does a tip on fixing the hooks and not the slices
I know right
I've spent years pulling the ball left.
Love the slight tilt and right elbow tucked in.
Spent along time opening the club face
"So....Uh When thing's go South...You can atleast avoid, East....or West."

Many techniques are quite helpful, especially pinching the right elbow in
Thanks Matt. I really feel my issue is alignment and club face squaring. Going to work on this
Tucking the right elbow made a big difference, thank you!
Absolutely brilliant. I could watch all day, thank you.

Not necesarily. Having an inside out swing path, aiming right, or with closed stance is a recipe for snap hooks.
tip # 2 saved mi life, tried it out today, it finally fixed my shot to the left after sveral years
Thank you!!!
Thank you for another great video. Good stuff and not over complicated!

This is EXACTLY what I needed. Great lesson........especially tip #5
Thanks Matt.Your instruction is always top shelf. Cheers!
Thank you very good explain. Will try out next time 👍🏻
Great stuff. I also find help with the swing thought of finishing high instead of hard and left.
Without having attempted your 5 steps to avoid hitting left....you've solved my problem. Much appreciated.
Thanks for the tips coz I have pulling it left. I will try out these fixes at the range tomorrow. Great stuff
Excellent

Can’t wait to implement

Solid shit here my man... not one shot went left today... couple of pushes, but nothing to bad. Keep it up playa
Love the videos and appreciate the southpaw reference !!! Great instruction and cannot wait to practice and use all your tips !

Why does this remind me of Blues Clues?!
Good video !!
Thank you for the Tips of how Not to go Left. Love it... keep it coming
Best info I have heard on keeping it straight and not going left thx!

Tip 2 is a beauty
Can an unfitted club with improper lie angle cause a constant left drive?
97 EVO TXG tour experience golf. Go check their videos out on lie angle. Very helpful and transparent.
You make some awesome videos.
CANT WAIT TO TRY THIS OUT
Great video...I tell people to visualize railroad tracks for their alignment.
Great vid. Really starting to love your instruction.

Ps. You need to say "no bueno" i find that hilarious.

The Ben Hogan swing!!!

I mean....get a shipment anytime soon? Hit the buttons too soon!

Awesome 👊🇺🇸
Nice blue golf bag.

Great. thx.

They may go right bust most slice from left to right. Just watch where the ball starts. Usually left with slice spin. Reason? Over the top.
as a draw/hooker of the ball, nice to have something that will help me . not the usual how to fix slice, thanks for the vid.
If you hook a ball you want to probably work on your swing path going more out to in. Not in to out
