You published a video that suggested pushing the club out as you turn your torso…that really was magic for me…hit the ball great…in this one you suggest keeping the hands close to the body….I like pushing the club out as you turn…I think it promotes good things to happen in the entire swing…full swing and short game shots…anyway pushing the club out while turning is what I’m sticking with… The video I’m referring to was “Don’t Hinge The Wrists In The Backswing”…the tip of “Push and Turn” was great…for me. Love your channel…glad I found it.
Hey Buddy This is the first time I have ever commented on TH-cam. I have watched your videos for a couple months now and have enjoyed them very much. You sound like an average guy that I would golf with, except you have a lot of knowledge and a “blue collar” way of delivering your message. Trackman etc is good to refine someone’s numbers I think, but first you have to have the basics. Your instruction is perfect for this. I have golfed for about 30 years... don’t keep an official handicap, but 83-95 on most courses is me. My point: your talk of keeping the right hand looking down on the backswing is GOLD. Just a subtle down feeling... I am in Ontario cooped up with this virus thing, so I went to the garage, started a fire, hung up tarps etc and started chipping based on some of your other videos. It has turned into full iron shots. Right hand down feeling is gold. What a feeling of compression. Thanks again.
You just showed me all the faults I've ever made. This one vid is the best help I've ever seen in one place. If only I was taught this stuff as a kid. Thank you. You are a brilliant teacher. I've just recently fixed all that on my own but it took me 50 years. And now here you are showing everybody. Love on ya man! Not hyperbaly; you're the best instructor I've ever seen.
Great video again Matt. 2nd tip is Gold. So much instruction about each part: Start from the ground, then the hips, then the shoulders , then the arms, etc... never thought about moving everything at once. This tip totally frees up the backswing.
One of the best instructional videos I have ever seen. Combined with brilliant humour this video has been stored for future reference on my computer whenever need to find answers when things go wrong. Thanks a bundle.
The concept of keeping my hands quiet has helped my short game SO much. And it makes perfect sense. The wider, longer, more handsy the swing, the more potential for making poor contact- just too many moving parts! Quiet hands? Beautiful thought. I used to worry about chunking, chili dipping, blading my chips. Now? I am honestly thinking about making them! ( I don't, but at least that is now my swing thought- and one of these days I WILL make some!) Thanks Matt! Great golf coach!
Thanks for your great instruction Matt. Chip and Slide was a game changer and these backswing tips are gold. My game suffered from the “death move” on the backswing (rolling hands open, low and too far inside) for too many years. Enjoying golf a lot more these days.
Thanks Matt, that was a great video which is so easy to emulate. Just proves that keeping it simple is usually best. Cheers and look forward to many more.
Great advice on keeping your hands close to your body. That was the other thing the Pro told me I was not doing correctly.. Like you example better than what I got at the PGA SuperStore in Woodstock GA.
Interesting take on being cautious with taking the club back too low. I have a tendency to get caught up with my initial backswing position. Focusing on #2 & #5 should simplify things and get me on track for a repetitive and natural motion. Thanks Mr. SG
Good info. Had my first lesson this past weekend and one of the things I was told was my Backswing incorrect and why I was not getting the distant I should be getting. I slow my swing down after I make contact with ball and don't finish..
I just finished 2 drills you showed that helped me so much. The first one was holding your elbow down and swinging a 1000 times with a pitching wedge. the second one was chipping a 1000 times with the driver. I actu ally used my 5 wood which is my favorite club. awesome Sir....What part of the golf ball do YOU actually look at when you strike all of your clubs.
Great advice. I've dropped three strokes after watching your videos for two weeks. Thank you. Can you tell the viewers which course you happen to be playing on given videos? The courses all look inviting.
Confidence is crucial to maintaining good form. I have possessed an insecure feeling about getting back squared to the ball. But as you illustrate I am never opening the club head on the backswing. My coiling my body is why the club head doesn’t remain square to the ball. If I were a machine then I think the club head could throughout the backswing be square to the ball. Maybe the reason for the flying right elbow is the amateur trying to keep the club head square to the ball. Thanks I’m planning to possess confidence on the first tee. Without a practice putting green or in my case also no irons only driving range it is difficult to get warmed up.
The last tip is my thing. I’m always most effective when I focus on my swing plane. I take it back vertically then horizontally to remind me of what not to do and then I can easily see the mid-line or in-between of these two extremes and that is the path I want.
Another great video Matt, thanks! I recently discovered that for me the key to success is to feel like I'm flexing my left wrist down, towards the inside of my left forearm, ala Dustin Johnson at the top...at the start of transition. It adds a lot of speed and helps me stay connected much better through impact. Thoughts?
Some great tips there. The trigger is something I've been playing around with lately and like it. Mathew Wolf is the most extreme case and it really works for him. Just wanted to be sure I understand your 5 stroke challenge, that video is from 2018, is that the one?
I like the idea of swing trigger then full orchestrated movement. Better not to think the way Ben Hogan illustrated. The swing is more about feeling. But then orderly movement. I think Hogan was trying to create the impression that he was there helping me swing the clubs. Your videos Matt in some way is your how to book. Hogan had to feel remote while trying to help.
Have you ever covered the pros and cons of using a yardage book for course management? I sell the golf yardage book do it yourself template on eBay for $2.99 and have been selling a few.
The more technique videos I watch, the more aware I am of how some of the advice might be misconstrued by people like me. Today, tip 5 jumped out at me. I've been thinking "shallow" lately. But if it's disrupting my body's natural motion, I'm probably erring too far on the opposite end of what the "shallow swing" advice is intended to address. I'm thinking back to "don't hit down" - advice that is necessary because maybe someone took a good concept and misstated it. It's true you want to keep the low point of an iron swing from bottoming out before the ball, but that might get exaggerated.
I practiced your tips and increased my driver club head speed by 10 from 90 to 100. Fantastic and hit with more accuracy. My question is this. I've watched the teachers expound on the swing made popular by Now Norman, and the hands are way way away from the body. Any comments would be appreciated
am i right or not that i sometimes thin my wedge shots say 40/50 yards by taking my club back low and return it at impact low and catch the ball middle i then realize what i'm doing and change my take away
You literally said in another video to push your hands out and now you're saying to keep your hands connected? How can you possibly do both (but still not take it back too far inside)?
My trigger is my ass gets tight and I don’t even have to think about it😂 To many swing thoughts clutters my brain matter. Maybe I should take up a sport that has no thought process😩 Don’t forget to turn the screw. Love ya man!
Hey Matt I’m new to the channel and I’m also fairly to golfing (8 months). I’m looking to take my game to the next level and I’m really liking the lessons so far I’ve seen from you. Can I send you a video of myself and have you give me some pointers please ? It would mean a lot thanks Matt .
Dude, you seriously have a gift. Something about the way you present, just makes things click that I've tried to grasp for years.
It's bcz he's not so uptight about it, I think. Presents it all as common sense solutions
I’ve watched a lot of golf videos but Matt your’s are excellent. You simplify things. Well done.
You published a video that suggested pushing the club out as you turn your torso…that really was magic for me…hit the ball great…in this one you suggest keeping the hands close to the body….I like pushing the club out as you turn…I think it promotes good things to happen in the entire swing…full swing and short game shots…anyway pushing the club out while turning is what I’m sticking with…

Neil McKenny thanks a lot glad you like the vids

This is the best golf channel on youtube.
This guy is the most interesting and practical golf instructor on TH-cam. He’s making me believe I might actually have a chance to get better at golf.
Love these videos. He explains things very well and is entertaining
One of the best instructional videos I have ever seen. Combined with brilliant humour this video has been stored for future reference on my computer whenever need to find answers when things go wrong. Thanks a bundle.
You're one of the best teachers I had seen on you tube,so clear explanations thank you
Probably,we’ll atleast for me,one of best instructional videos. Thankyou ! Great job!
Matt, I luv yah man! You are so funny and make learning to golf fun. God bless you.

This makes more sense than anyone else on the internet!
More awesome tips. Again, many thanks! TKM
Great explanation of staying "connected" and making it simple to understand. Thanks for a great site.
Thanks for your great instruction Matt. Chip and Slide was a game changer and these backswing tips are gold. My game suffered from the “death move” on the backswing (rolling hands open, low and too far inside) for too many years. Enjoying golf a lot more these days.
You are so correct!! I love how simple you make golf. Fantastic!!! Thank you!! Love you too man!!
Yes it did! Thank you for all your great energy and instructions.
Thanks Matt, that was a great video which is so easy to emulate. Just proves that keeping it simple is usually best. Cheers and look forward to many more.
Matt, you have a fan base. Keep bringing it.
Great advice on keeping your hands close to your body. That was the other thing the Pro told me I was not doing correctly.. Like you example better than what I got at the PGA SuperStore in Woodstock GA.
Great vid!! Rematch soon, Matt?
Let's do it.
@@MrShortGame I vote YES! on this one! Crossovers FTW
Wow, how many Matts are there on YT Golf Channels?
i like the first tip ,, never thought about a trigger to start the swing before but i have no doubt i need this for consistency .
Hands close to the body in the back swing is one of the best tips ever I'd say
Love the teaching style, simple and fun, just how golf should be. Good job!!
Great advice! Thanks!
Thanks Matt, your videos are often a confirmation to me as to what I am doing right :)
Thanks for the video, I am taking lessons but needed this help right now for just the basics.
This video really helped my game yesterday. Great info. thanks
Matt just played a round and at the same time filmed tips for us. Awesome!! 👍🏻
Interesting take on being cautious with taking the club back too low. I have a tendency to get caught up with my initial backswing position. Focusing on #2 & #5 should simplify things and get me on track for a repetitive and natural motion. Thanks Mr. SG
Another great video that makes it's way into my "golf practice/drill" playlist! Thanks!
Excellent. Thanks 🙏
Great help Mr. Shortgame! I played today and had 7 pars. Slowing seeing results. Thanks!
Best 5 tips ever! Specially the trigger and stay connected.
Good info. Had my first lesson this past weekend and one of the things I was told was my Backswing incorrect and why I was not getting the distant I should be getting. I slow my swing down after I make contact with ball and don't finish..
I love this guy man
great tips... I have made all of those mistakes trying to find my swing... thank you! thank you!
Awesome advice!!!
Hands close to the body. Great tip. Great video!
Pretty good tips.
A1 as usual!
Great tips Matt thanks
"It will ruin your life, on and off the course." That line slayed me. Enjoying the content.
thanks Mr short game easy to understand back swig advise
Great Vid!
Cool! I just practiced that in front of the mirror and opened up more than I realized. Thanks! Now gotta practice the correct takeaway 👍
You are the man.
Love your energy, thank you for helping my game so much , l have gone from 27hcp to 17hcp in 4mths.
Ive just started playing at 57, im determined to get to single handicap.
I just finished 2 drills you showed that helped me so much. The first one was holding your elbow down and swinging a 1000 times with a pitching wedge. the second one was chipping a 1000 times with the driver. Great tips.
I like your videos, especially the 'ballet exercise' of hitting a fairway metal. I'd like to hear your comments on the Moe Norman single axis swing.🐈
Great video, just subbed
Thanks man for the great tips, sweet!
Great content. What glove are you wearing?
As always a great video, thanks.
100 % agree with staying connected...nothing more important....use the towel drill/towel under armpits
Dude, i just found you.. you’re amazing! 🤘
Confidence is crucial to maintaining good form. I have possessed an insecure feeling about getting back squared to the ball. But as you illustrate I am never opening the club head on the backswing. Without a practice putting green or in my case also no irons only driving range it is difficult to get warmed up.
Great ideas.
I’ve been taught and follow the mantra of “lose control in order to gain control.” Stay loose and let the club follow where your body takes it.
Awesome tips. I’ll have to make an effort keeping my arms close to my body.
I normally look to the heavens and mutter "please lord" 😂
The last tip is my thing. I’m always most effective when I focus on my swing plane. I take it back vertically then horizontally to remind me of what not to do and then I can easily see the mid-line or in-between of these two extremes and that is the path I want.

Just wanted to be sure I understand your 5 stroke challenge, that video is from 2018, is that the one?
I take it back low in the backswing when hitting the wedges only like you said and it works.
Love it 👌
Great
Hey Budy, out of context from this Vid. I watched your vid on changing grip and I did it my self last week. Save a few bucks. Tks
Thank you, You have a great way of expressing the swing, .
My stupid golf rule.
Hitting out of someone else's divoit, how's that fair..
If I have a hand press right before I swing is it bad or Does it count as a trigger?
The more technique videos I watch, the more aware I am of how some of the advice might be misconstrued by people like me.
Today, tip 5 jumped out at me. I've been thinking "shallow" lately. But if it's disrupting my body's natural motion, I'm probably erring too far on the opposite end of what the "shallow swing" advice is intended to address.
I'm thinking back to "don't hit down" - advice that is necessary because maybe someone took a good concept and misstated it. It's true you want to keep the low point of an iron swing from bottoming out before the ball, but that might get exaggerated.
Trigger a must even with the putting stroke.
Can you please make a video on topping the ball? Thanks
Is a slight forward press a trigger?
Yes
I like the trigger thing. It reminds me of Matthew Wolff
I practiced your tips and increased my driver club head speed by 10 from 90 to 100. Fantastic and hit with more accuracy. My question is this. I've watched the teachers expound on the swing made popular by Now Norman, and the hands are way way away from the body. Any comments would be appreciated
I can't thank you enough. Now I can stop thinking about my back swing while I'm trying to back swing lol.
I’m confused because in another more recent video on hinging the wrist you explain to push out on the back swing.
Do you have any stretches for a person with tight hips? I have suffered from flat feet for my 23 years alive and my hips have been very tight for that
What belt you wearing? I've been looking something similar.
Loving your Channel Matt, is it always Sunny in SOCAL ? You wouldn’t believe the rain we get in Europe, it’s biblical ....
Your videos have taken my game from mid 80's to mid 70's. I'm 72 years old. Maybe I'll shoot my age some day. Thanks
I have a question about breathing in the backswing. Does one breathe in on the backswing and hold your breathe on your downswing?
What about Matthew Wolfe? That trigger is unique.
am i right or not that i sometimes thin my wedge shots say 40/50 yards by taking my club back low and return it at impact low and catch the ball middle i then realize what i'm doing and change my take away
Stay connected... !!!
Just love this no sh"£ tips. So simple and great if you begin to suffer whilst on the course.
Love you videos but 15 clubs in your bag?
Trigger. Never had one, do now. Thanks MATT!
I feel like you made this for me.
