How to unlock the GameCube for $6 with the SD2SP2 Pro | No solder mod

  • I recently purchased the SD2SP2 GameCube accessory that plugs into the GameCube Serial Port 2 under the console - can I get it to work though? If I can I can use it to play GameCube backup files, homebrew, emulators, and more without a mod chip!

    Extract the folder and copy the contents of the "ActionReplay" folder to your old SD card for the memory card adapter

      I hear you - the thinking is that I wanted to add an action replay and a memory card adapter to my collection anyway for other uses, so the SD2SP2 was the only "net expense". Another commentor mentioned that if you have a modded Wii and want to move a cracked save file onto an actual GC memory card you could launch some custom code as well, so let me know if you're curious to see how that potentially cheaper method would look (which wouldn't require an AR or mem adapter)

      exactly.
      i knew something was off by the fact it needed a disk to boot into the device.
      furthermore, this was a rabbit hole i have no patience for.
      still would like a serial socket to sd card converter, but i know for a fact nothing boots from that socket, needs a redirect ala that disk or another means that looks retail to the cube.

      It's not that hard, just pick up a $10 copy of James Bond, install the save exploit on the memory card, and it'll boot into Swiss right away. You can avoid the whole SD card adapters for the memory card and it takes less than a minute to boot into it. The process in this video is overly complicated lol.

    Just want to point out, you absolutely do not need the memory card adapter or older SD cards or an Action Replay at all. My setup was only $15 total and I use a 128 gigabyte Micro SD card. I use a save game exploit with a $5 copy of James Bond that allows me to boot into Swiss off the SD2SP2. You need a way to put the save file on the memory card like a modded Wii, but it is a much faster and cheaper process. There's also many games that are able to run an exploit too, so someone may have one in their collection already.

    You didn't even need the Action replay disc or sd memory card adapter! With a modded Wii you can transfer a hacked game save to a game cube memory card with will let that game act as a launcher for Swiss! A little less convinent, but cheaper and you probably already had one of the games you needed!

    Question: I have basically the exact same setup as you do in the video here, but Swiss isn't even loading up. So I'm wondering on what it is you did to get it work. other than that me thinking the GC2SD i got would be bad

    • @CoulterPeterson
      @CoulterPeterson  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I did notice I sometimes had to jiggle the GC2SD adapter so it would be properly read every now and again, but as far as Swiss not booting up, I would double check that the SD card is old enough, and possibly trying it in the other memory card slot. Good luck!

      @@CoulterPeterson the thing is though is that it IS seeing the GC2SD because it shows up as "Not Useable" in the GC menu. And I even got basically the same card as you, with it being 1 GB. I even got a Sandisck 1 GB as an extra measure, formatted to FAT and got nothing. I was more wondering if it could be the files?

    Why not just get a used Wii.
    If you don't have the game boy advance player, there is literally no downside to a modded Wii.
    The Wii has better 480p cables from hyperkin. Work perfectly to HDMI.

    Neat, thanks. I have an old action replay disc, (as well as a separate Freeloader disc I got to use with a Panasonic Q a long time ago). I'm not sure if I can use these yet as they aren't specifically labeled as SD Media launchers, but now that I know the process I can try it out pretty cheaply given what I already have.
    As a bonus, it looks like it's possible to use it to update the firmware on my EON GCHD MKII as well! (also requires a universal IR remote [Wii U Gamepad has one] for some menu navigation). I've needed to do this because mine has some audio glitches resolved in later FW. Cool :D

    • @CoulterPeterson
      @CoulterPeterson  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nice! Yea I was surprised that some action replay disks had the SD media reading secretly present - much more useful now 😁

    • @pheria
      @pheria 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CoulterPeterson It took a bit for some of the pieces to come in, but they finally did and yep it all worked out! (except for updating my EON GCHD MKII Firmware through a DOL file - mine apparently has so old of a firmware that it doesn't have an 'update firmware' option in its menus, unfortunately).
      Turns out my old Action Replay disc (v 1.2) does have the ability to launch from SD cards with an adapter even though it wasn't labeled SD Media Launcher or anything, it just isn't listed on menus. But if the SD card is there, compatible, and formatted FAT16, it'll do it when it boots. I also specifically grabbed one of the clouddisk SD cards you mentioned and it worked great.
      Getting an Action Replay is the expensive piece for this method, but if you already happen to have one like I did, it was indeed cheap and easy. Thanks!

  • @InF3XioN

    • @CoulterPeterson
      @CoulterPeterson  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The trick I ran into was once the SD card was big enough, Windows didn't offer FAT32 formatting, so to do it properly I had to use the special sequence mentioned. Glad you got to save some headache though!

    • @NottJoeyOfficial
      @NottJoeyOfficial 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is specifically for the Action Replay as they are not designed for anything newer than SD (no SDHC) which is limited to cards 2 gigabytes and smaller in size. Some Wii games like Smash Bros also have this issue, and it's hard coded into the program. The SD2SP2 will accept any size as long as it is FAT32, but older programs like the GameCube media loaders will not.
