the sponsor isn't the worst though I suppose, at least it's not an outright scam from my quick glance. not a product I would buy necessarily but it's a cool if a little pointless piece of tech (just stick with the glasstron tho /s)
You gotta love these retro developers. They keep pushing the limits and coming up with amazing technology for these old systems. My favourite is still the Satiator for Saturn but I'll definitely be getting this one for one of my JP Gamecubes.
Fallback essentially means RAW Read mode, like Clean Rip does, which also reads out the dummy sectors that only consist of zeros. Fast mode is basically trimming, where only the program data is read and the dummy sectors are omitted. So a game that is only around 200MB in size is only read out like that and not the almost 1.5GB that a whole disc can hold.
I have two GameCubes sitting in my closet waiting for these flippy drives. As soon as they're commercially available I'm sold. I don't want to buy anything off of Kickstarter.
As of now, Crowdsupply is the platform where it’s commercially available. It’s the only selling platform that would cooperate with them how they needed.
This does change everything. I can't believe we have the technology to put a tiny screen with the gamecube logo on some kind of a chip. We keep getting bigger and bigger screen. So, it is time to go back to the gameboy micro days.
That does look like fun. I just finished my two day project of soft modding my ps3 to perfection. A bit of a noob here. Just glad my ps3 and myself survived the process.
See, I don't like that you call a modded console "Perfection" that makes me with my stock consoles feel like crap, like I'm not a real gamer or something
@ESHIELDS It was quite challenging for me and I was using a fat ps3. I guess the process is different for the slim. I would do so ome research first. Regardless, it is a blast when you finish.
Very cool! I remember back in 2007 I bought the network adapter for my gamecube solely so I could stream games to it from my PC. It worked really well and didn't require any modifications.
@@Procedurallydegeneratedjohn I understand that it's a thing, but it doesn't change that the gamecube situation IS crazy. Look at all the mods that are available for it and all those that got developped recently, it's getting a LOT of attention
You should do a colab with MachoNacho…his video from a couple of weeks ago shows an SD Card extension from Laser Bear Industries that makes it easy to have the microSD card at the edge of the optical drive lid & LED power light & the Ethernet port at the back. I already have a couple of GameCubes modified with the GC loader, but I keep a third GameCube 100% OEM stock, so I can use my GC discs every so often - love the fact that the flippy drive mod doesn’t require the complete removal of the optical drive to get the ODE in there….and anything that doesn’t require soldering is a major win in my book.
The laserbear SD extension ribbon is already unnecessary. One of the first updates will allow you to use the flippy drives wifi chip to access the micro SD wirelessly. That and Bluetooth controller support should be in the first update before the first units are shipped.
After doing the Picco boot and being confident in my solder technique, it is wonderful to see a continual evolution on the Game Cube. I have a few Game Cubs I did the Picco Boot in my purple one I will do the Flippy in my black one.
Have a Flippydrive from the beta drop a few months back, its an incredible device and I can say that its easily the best mod for a gamecube, in its current state its solid already but the planned features that are already in testing such as FTP, Wifi game loading, and bluetooth controller support, its going to be the best mod out there for the gamecube by far
Does the hardware in the current Flippydrive support bluetooth and we only need a software update? I am thinking of picking one up but don't want to have to re-buy it.
Been waiting for a Spawn Wave video about this. I’ve been following Flippy Drive development for a while and I’m surprised how few people are talking about it. Already put my order in and can’t wait to get it. I’m mostly excited to revive my Gameboy Player which has been missing the startup disc for years.
The fact that you can use it to make backups is a big thing in my opinion. Because I had not used an optical disc drive in my main PC for at least like 15 years now. To rip discs I used an old thinkpad.
I have a Twin Snakes GameCube and have been wanting to hook it up and play on it, it’s region locked and I really didn’t want to risk messing it up with soldering. This would absolutely make me want to play with it
8:07 This is the type of mod I want for the OG Xbox. I love the clean UI of the original Xbox and to be able to keep it and launch games off that Ui would be amazing!
Deluxe Kit Ordered. I saw Macho Nacho video on this awhile back but it wasn't available at the time. Glad you reminded me about it!! Got a Black DOL-001 with a GB player I'm looking to make the ultimate Game cube. Need to go get that controller port upgrade as well.
I'm definitely gonna get myself one of these, no questions asked! It's so simple and pretty affordable (except it's too bad that the international shipping cost is a bit much and Value Added Tax will be added on top of that, so it's not as cheap to us Europeans as it is in the USA).
I LOVE the CubeLoader look. The more authentic the OS the better. Thats one big nit-pick of mine, I NEED an OEM+ like feel to the OS. OG XBOX modding scene NEEDS better dashboards. (Same with freeMcBoot)
I've got a nice list of mods i'm throwing into a gamecube i bought and this is one of them. I've got the bluetooth controller faceboard that Lazerbear designed (BlueRetro i think it was called) installed, next will be the Flippy, and then whenever a dedicated HDMI output board becomes available for the Gamecube, it'll be going in there too.
I already went into my GameCube and installed a new modified controller board so I can easily switch out the rtc battery without soldering. This is definitely interesting to me as someone who knows nothing about soldering and doesn’t have the money to replace an entire GameCube if I were to mess up.
I'm surprised you don't like getting down and dirty into hard mods. Soldering is actually pretty satisfying. It's kinda soothing like doing a puzzle (as long as you can work at your own pace) You're definitely way smarter than me; I'm sure you'd be a modding beast if you tried
I felt as though the installation for the Pico Boot method was a lot easier than the Xeno chip especially since you had to apply the potentiometer tweak as well
Although I'm pretty happy with using an SD gecko and an SD2SP2 adapter, I might actually check the Flippy drive out once it's available for purchase. Looks like a neat implementation. I could solder everything to the GC mobo, but I really don't want to. That's where the flippy drive absolutely shines, imo.
A) ANY AND ALL of the glasses are truly amazing. Excpet the Rokids. LOL blurry mess. I've tried all, but stick with my original Nreal Air 1's (Now Xreal) .. cleanest picture by far over ALL of them. And B) if you're wondering what a 200" display is.. lol. It all depends on where you believe the display is. If it's at moon distance, the screen is 2259999 miles wide. If it's laptop distance, it's 27". Still incredibly impressive.
Honestly, these Pi powered projects are the future of modding. I got my hands on a Game Boy flash cart powered by the same microcontroller. While it's not perfect, it's REALLY good. The microcontrollers are going to be changing the retro modding scene for the better for quite some time to come.
It's easier to use a softmodded Wii to load GameCube ROMs, but since the Wii has pretty crappy component video output, and the GameCube DOL-001 model has a digital port that can convert to HDMI, I definitely see the appeal.
We need these made for every disc based console! If they could do this for Saturn & Dreamcast, I'd be in heaven! So does it support over the air updates?

Will this replace the retro blue wireless controller mod? Or can you only sync one controller via wifi with the flippy drive or can the flippy drive straight up do all 4 controllers wirelessly at the same time?
