Are we sewing machines!? We have ups and downs (the needle) ins and outs (sewing the fabric) difficulties (thread or fabric getting caught, needle breaks, fabric jams etc). I think I’m a sewing machine!

The sewing machine struggle was REAL this week my fishes! 😅 I'll pin my fave comment about today's video! 💖

The noises you made trying out the new machine for the first time were so funny because they're SO relatable 😂

Awe man this was a juicy video!! I don’t sew nearly as often as you, BUT I also did not know you’re supposed to clean your machine that often 😳 I don’t think I’ve ever done mine 😅

I felt like such a dummy. I almost didn't want to post the video. I just wanted to pretend the whole thing didn't happen... haha!

When you clean your machines, also oil them (a drop) wherever the instructions say to. And with as much as you sew, you do need a heavy duty, or even industrial machine. The plastic parts in modern machines wear out. I tend to like older all metal machines, because they are indestructible. But all machines need cleaning, oiling, and tuning up from time to time. They do slow down eventually, too, because of the way the electronics wear in. As you said, it's just part of having a sewing business. But yeah. Do have backups. I actually have 19 machines currently... and no, I don't need that many. LOL

I didn't know for years that I was supposed to clean out my machine, and now that I have started my machine squeaks every couple projects I do as a reminder that I need to be on top of that

You can have your sewing machine serviced if you don't want to deal with cleaning it out yourself! Its obviously a tradeoff between extra cost or extra time, but i figured i might as well mention it just in case :)

I feel the struggle, I got a new sewing machine last year.
And oh my… I have never thought I would love a sewing machine so much. It does everything.
(I have the Pfaff quilt Expression 720)
But at least you now have a instant backup, if something actually goes wrong.

I guess you have a backup machine now, which might come in handy! I had no idea there's a part somewhere that has to be cleaned out? Looking forward to that video

Hehe, I didn't know I was supposed to clean my machine either & didn't clean it for like 6 years. When my stitches weren't catching I unscrewed the feed plate & there was like a 3 mm thick layer of dust under it. Cleaned that off & it went like a dream. But I'm mostly self taught so I blame that.

i hope you love your singer! as a cosplayer my main machine for years was a singer 4423 heavy duty and it was a beast before i upgraded to a babylock simply because i wanted embroidery. however, i kept the singer as a backup because it just works that well. i think you'll have great luck with your new machine pal! but i know what you mean, i also get emotionally attached to my machines and when i upgraded mine i cried, haha.

Oh Courtney I really super hope that singer machine works out better for you than it did me and my students. I recently taught a sewing class with four of those guys(Provided by the school, I would not have chosen them myself due to a history of bad experiences with Singers in college) and they were nothing but trouble. I'm glad you figured out what the trouble was with the other machine though!

i rlly like the singer machine- be carful turning the wheel thing on the back of the machine backwards, cus i believe it can mess up the alignment of the stitches- thus breaking the machine... im prtty sure thats partially why my heavy duty singer broke on me so i felt like i should give a head up

Well, at least on the bright side if your old sewing machine breaks down like actually breaks down you have a brand new one already.
