Vault 101 Jewel of the Wastes. For 200 years, Vault 101 has faithfully served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Though the global atomic war of 2077 left the US all but destroyed, the residents of Vault 101 enjoy a life free from the constant stress of the outside world. Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers, and yes, even Super Mutants are all no match for superior Vault-Tec(R) engineering. Yet one fateful morning, you awake to find that your father has defied the Overseer and left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you've ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father, and the truth.

New Vegas is without a doubt the superior game. I've played them all, DLC and platinum the ones that had. The only demerit of NV is the lack of post-game content, I would have loved to see the world with the Legion/NCR taken down (the DLC doesn't count). It already had a massive amount of content and updates though, so it's reasonable for there not to be any post-game content.

Back when Fallout 3 first came out I legitimately did most if not 100% of the game on a Good Karma route and most of it again in a bad Karma route. But I was college age, had way too much free time and there weren't nearly as many games deserving of your time being released (not to mention just not having the money to buy them at that age) and it just fit into that special time in my life where I could be bothered to do it. I doubt that precise set of circumstances will ever happen for a game this expansive ever again. And going back I've definitely experienced the "Fallout fatigue" because I know as fun as the game is I've not only seen it before but there are not only many more new games to experience but I just don't have that amount of time to put into one game and enjoy everything it has to offer.

It was a good idea, but poorly executed. Revelation 21:6 features heavily in the game. Aside from it being the inspiration to build the water purifier, it applies to the player as well, as you play through your characters Beginning/Birth to their End/Death.
Bethesda could've made the final mission have a point where you're separated from your companion somehow, so that it really boils down to sacrificing yourself or Lyons.

I think its just a matter of what you want and what you can do. The possibilities were limitless in the style of the Obsidian games. They were basically as expansive lore-wise as a book. But going 3D sacrificed so much considering Fallout 3 was released in 2008. Fallout Van Buren was the prototype from Obsidian Bethesda would recycle and the content from that alone was so promising. Bethesda trapped themselves with their engine, the stories and designs you could pull off with a completely redone engine could rival Obsidian's work. I know they redid Gamebryo but just starting from scratch (although expensive and time consuming) could solve so much. If you dont believe me look at Fallout 4 concept art.

There’s just no depth to fallout 3. Creetosis has made fantastic videos explaining why fallout 3 and 4 were awful games. They absolutely shit on the lore and worldbuilding of the previous entries. Bethesda simply didn’t put any effort into understanding the complexity of Fallout’s world and it shows. It blows my mind that some people call it one of the best games of all time. IMO it’s painfully mediocre at best but the fact that it fails as an RPG and disrespects its source material makes it utter trash.

Were you purposefully mispronouncing "ingot"? Also, instead of doing three full playthroughs to do each karma, you could just save before reaching the level requirements and grinding out karma for each achievement. It's tedious, but probably less tedious than doing full playthroughs of each. Same for trying out the good/bad result for each quest. Just save before the decision and try both.

Fallout 3 was one of those games I was obsessed with as a teenager. I did everything in that game twice over. Having grown a bit and gone back to play Fallout 1 and 2 I do have to admit my opinion of F3 has soured a bit. There are a lot of quests and locations that felt very same-y on further reflection. I never found an npc I loved as much as ZAX or a location that felt as cool as Vault City. But that’s not to say there weren’t great things in Fallout 3, the medic power armour that screams at you is bloody hilarious, the fort anchor dlc was so fun and twisted and showed such a toxic side of American propaganda and of course the quest to find the violin is so god damn heartfelt.
All in all I still like the game, but I don’t think I could ever go back to it and complete it again, there just isn’t enough there to keep me hooked as an adult.

Fallout 3 is amazing, seriously, fallout new vegas is truly a masterpiece, not only because of the various in depth RPG mechanics and characters, but also its insane development time. But Fallout 3 in my opinion, is just as good as New Vegas. Yes, the RPG mechanics are no where near as in depth, and the story is not as captivating. But fallout 3 not only has fantastic gameplay sessions (Like Tranquility lane) but in my opinion, a far better and more fun world to explore and discover than New vegas. The characters (most of them) are extremely memorable, (like mayor Mccready and Fawkes). So I think Fallout 3 is truly amazing and set a fantastic foundation for new vegas to build upon and reach even better hights in some regards.

Speaking as a fan that's been playing this series since the '97 demo, most of the anger against Bethesda was born of their sneaky contract manipulation rather than how they handled the game.
See, Bethesda agreed to let Black Isle make the 3rd game with Bethesda as the publisher and partial rights holder.
When Van Buren was nearly finished, Bethesda was like "Whoa, you can't use OUR IP details in your new game", sued the already sinking Black Isle studio, forcing them to relinquish what little of the IP they still owned.
Fallout 3 is an excellent game, but fuck Bethesda for how they went about obtaining the rights.

@@benevans7564 That made me laugh, but seriously it's worth bringing up for anyone who doesn't know, Bethesda wouldn't give Obsidian royalties or bonuses on the game unless they got an 85 on Metacritic. They got an 84, and the game sold very well, estimated 12 million worldwide, which is really close to the same amount of copies Fallout 3 sold, if you're wondering. So Obsidian, the company that MADE the game, got none of the royalties from that. They got a "straight payment" for the game, and that's it. Bethesda is not really a very good company, to put it lightly.
And that's not even to mention, New Vegas is a legitimately better RPG than Fallout 3, like in every way.

Van Buren never made it much farther than the tech demo stage. It was cancelled in 2003 because of lack of funding, the developers (Black Isle) shut down the same year, and a lot of staff went on to form Obsidian. No one went back to development on the game.
Bethesda sued Interplay, the original publishers, 6 years later. Interplay had licensed the Fallout name for a game; Bethesda already owned the IP. They were still the bad guys, though. They sued Interplay and it failed. They sued the new developer and it also failed. But Interplay and Bethesda ended up settling out of court and Interplay lost the Fallout Online name. They continued development under a different name, but still cancelled it.

i mean you didn't have to do 3 playthroughs to get the achievements, you can use perks for a max lvl character to max out your karma to 1 side or the other and create a save to swap to the others so you can essentially reduce the total play time for a completion run by two thirds. Having played this game to completion myself and also building out a path that gives 10 in every stat there is a lot you can do to reduce the play time. Im obsessed tho obviously so kinda irrelevant. also despite blowing up megaton you can do plenty other evil things that are just as bad if not worse like becoming a slaver and subjecting people to things that even the modern devs don't condone even being in there. also you CAN blow up megaton and still manage good karma to get the good ending

I'll never get why that ending is so impactful. I got there with a ghoul partner(been a sec since I've played it so i forget) and all I coule think was
"Uum, why not just send them in? Why do I have to die? This is stupid." It was baffling lol
I'm fairly certain there are other reasons that I've forgotten but I sure the DLC exists BECAUSE of the ending.

When I first played the game I never got close to the ending. Only long after getting all the DLC did I complete it. It seemed only obvious to send Fawkes in since there was a scene barely an hour ago where he went through a radiation filled area to grab something important. Then I got treated to the narrator calling me a coward for not wanting to kill myself pointlessly. Playing a bethesda game almost makes me wish for Obsidian to make a sequel to New Vegas.

Completed this game years ago and loved every second, even having go back to previous saves to do the Karma Achievements
