- A DIY auto mechanic describes must-have tips for replacing a Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve on 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, and 2017 KIA Sportage with 2.4L engines.
The most obvious symptom of a bad PCV valve is the performance of your vehicle will gradually decrease. This can be exhibited by a buildup of pressure in the exhaust or the engine could stall out. The bad PCV valve may not close all the way and allow gas to flow into the piston combustion chamber causing excessive oil consumption or white smoke from the tailpipe. A stuck or closed valve may cause leaks around oil seals or gaskets producing multiple pools of oil beneath the vehicle, moisture and sludge buildup inside the engine, and higher idle speeds. A new or clean functioning valve will rattle sharply when shaken.

I took mine out of my 17 sporty 2.4l and it still rattled but much quieter than the new valve. I had no codes, just paranoid about the gdi engine. The old one was also dirty and heavy. Switched it anyway at 35k and man, she has her acceleration back and she is quieter at idle . 10 bucks and 2 minutes. Awesome.
35k.is excessive. I changed mine at 80k and it still rattled a little bit but definitely not like the new one. Definitely a good idle.

Thank you for the video my Kia shortage was burning about 2 quarts of oil and now all of it but I looked underneath the floor and no spots or leaks so I’m going to replace this

Newer KIA/HYUNDAI engines no longer use a PCV valve. They use a Positive Crankcase Regulator (PCR) which sits on top of the valve cover and looks kinda like an oil cap. Can you do a video on that?

2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid. It has the 1.6L turbo gdi. This setup is used in many Kia and Hyundai models from 2021 and newer
