Totally 100% true that exercise will cure/prevent Dysmenorrhea (aka severe period pain)!!! I nearly pass out too. Doctor advised me that I need to exercise but I thought I was quite active then, I swim twice a week. What I discovered later is that normal exercise is not enough. Later, in the past years I had been maintaining intensive exercise (min 4 days high intensity workout per week) in order to keep fit and guess what? the pain actually went away. Amazing. Nowadays I hardly experience cramps anymore, just occasion slight discomfort. When I know I missed a day or two workout, I will use a heat pack/hot water bottle. It's like cheat thing. The day before period, place it at the lower tummy hot and long enough (hours as long as u can) and drink hot water. The point is to "melt" clogged blood in the uterus by using external and internal heat. If you do it right, u will notice your blood will flow out more fluid instead of blood solids. The pain will reduce significantly. Just sharing my personal experience how to handle the pain when desperate and too late for workout. :) Because this the cheat works, I suspect work out increases blood flow and also increases body temperature that prevents blood clogging in the uterus and hence no/less pain during period. Just saying maybe, I'm not doctor so just logic thinking here. ^_^

Hi Joanna, you're absolutely right about exercise reducing severe cramps. I was a gymnast for 11 years and during my early teenage years I've never experienced any pain or cramps. Then when I stopped practicing the sport, the pain started and it was almost unbearable, most times I was on pain killers. Then after a few years I got into fitness and pole dance and I noticed if I exercised regularly and especially in the days before my period started, there was absolutely no pain or just mild cramps. What helps me the most is stretching the lower body muscles and the core muscles; doing lunges, squats and splits is key for me. Cheers :)

Hi Joanna. Great video. It's really great to see a relatable, reasonable fitness trainer. I have extreme period pains and symptoms as well, and one thing I do notice is when I don't feel well, I don't drink enough water, and the symptoms are worse where I can't exercise. For me, I have to be aware to drink enough throughout the day.

+Imu Chandra. During the period, the metabolism goes higher and that is why we get hungrier Some people burn an extra 100 to 300 calories a day during the 5 to 7 days of their periods! I do not exercise for at least the first 3 days.

Wow, perfect timing since I am on my period now. I've been very lucky that I never had to deal with severe cramps, and I barely get any now since I had my daughter in 2014 (though that might be because of the exercising too!). I push through my workout and a clean diet definitely helps. It helps me feel better over all :)

I too used to have really bad pain during my periods the first days but fortunately the past months I have not had any pain due to the fact that I workout a little, even though I work out very little it still has helped me a lot. I didn't actually think that it was due to the exercise but thankfully you made me more aware and now I will continue workout more in the future:) Thank you again!

This is SO TRUE! I've noticed the past few months that if I just keep working out normally without worrying about my period, I experience way less uncomfortable stomach pains and cramps. My flow has also lessened its craziness and I really only have to worry about the first full day. Now that I know that this is indeed the reason why, I'm going to try my best to stick to this routine.
I was on my high school tennis team for all four years and was in the best shape of my life, then in college I only exercised sparingly yet still maintained a decent weight nonetheless. After I graduated two years ago I tried to work out more, but lately it's been easier to get back in that flow. I feel so much better than I did during college! So glad to be hopefully back on the road to my high school strength.

On the first day of my period, I used to scream, rolling in my bed, and sometimes I had to go to clinic to get a shot because of severe pain. But when I eat healthy and exercise, it gets better every month. I still feel the pain on the first day but less than before. I used to be lazy working out. But since August, I start joining the gym and attend regular classes like Zumba, boot camp, body strength. And I feel the result after a few months. For example, excuse me, I used to have hard time going to restroom before. But a few months after working out regularly, I feel like a normal person now lol. For 2016, I decide to eat healthier and found your videos. Thanks for all the tips! U r awesome! Happy New Year!

Joanna, you are the reason I started exercising. About a year ago I got out of the shower and caught a glimpse of my profile in the mirror. I was appalled at how bad my weight had becoem. I immediately ran to my kitchen to discard any and all junk food, then began scavenging the internet for "quick fixes", or 1200 calorie meal plans. I hated exercise and I was determined to lose the weight from diet alone. I came across your channel, particularly your meal plan for the 90 day weight loss challenge, and I was hooked. My mind changed about not exercising, even though I didn't want to do it. I did the 90 day weight loss challenge, the 8 week bikini body challenge, and the 4 week ab challenge, all in a row. Then I signed up for the gym, and started weight training. In the process of all of that, I learned about Freelee the Banana Girl, quickly transitioned into a vegan diet, and never looked back. I can proudly say that because of your videos to motivate me through the hardest part (pushing myself until I started seeing results and enjoying exercise), I would not have lost 30lbs, been able to run two 5K races in a year, start WEIGHT TRAINING, or go from a pants size 13 to 5 in 12 months. I still have a little bit longer to go, but I really owe my journey to your channel. Thank you for always being a positive force in the lives of your viewers!
