My dad is from English speaking family and my mum is from mandarin speaking family, my mum was looked down, however I’m bilingual, good in both languages, who could look down on me? Honestly I don’t care even if they are family members. Everyone values life differently. I married to my hubby who is a simple man and his family is also very simple and humble. I’m a go getter since he is simple. You guys will make it! 敬而远之也是一种生活方式

TERRENCE: YOU know how successful you are obviously you are a kind and supportive person. Keep your head held high and lean on Joanna. Her mom should be MORE proud of you and what you have accomplished BECAUSE you did it IN SPITE of coming from a less fortunate background. Also, you, your family, your father - AREN’T lesser people because of divorce or money. People have what they have and if you do the best you can and are a kind person, it’s all that counts. There are plenty of people who came from “money” and had a “good upbringing” who are hateful and terrible people. Upbringing doesn’t matter. Who YOU are is all that matters. Keep being awesome! If someone doesn’t like or support you, it’s THEIR LOSS and says more about them than you!
JOANNA - you are lovely and inspiring I’m so glad you both have each other! Thanks for sharing these heartfelt moments with us.

The fact that you two were able to share your most personal issues about your lives on social media takes guts. My heart ached when you two were crying. Thank you both Joanna and Terrance ❤ for sharing this with us. Meanwhile Rusty was chilling the entire duration of the video lol.

Oh wow! The topic about Joanna's parents is just intense.
But I love how Terrence said, as parents, they just want what is best for their children. It is great that he does not hold any grudges. And it is great that he is standing his ground. You are right, remain true to yourself. If people cannot accept you for who you are, it is their loss. Although I understand it would be very nice if you and Joanna's parents get along, but what can we do if they are not willing to know you. The important thing right now is that you two compliment each other. Let the love continue to grow! You too are doing great! Thanks for sharing this,

I hope you both will read this. You only get 1 life. I am 53 and my husband 56 and we wasted most of our lives trying to please our families on both sides, and all they ever tried to do was destroy us. Even after we were married and had our daughter. It wasn't until we decided to move to another state, which our families had a fit over, it wasn't until then we felt free. Never ever let your parents tell you who you should love. You love each other? Then that's what matters. No matter how much you have people will always look down their nose at you. Live for yourselves, each other, and God. Be blessed. 💙

Never knew that my fav fitness instructor shares same story as mine. But one thing i can say Joanna, stay together no matter what and with time, your parents will see through both of your commitment. Wish you very best. As for me, we are now married for last 2 years but my mother never wanted this to happen. Things haven't changed drastically but i think someday she will come to terms with this. ❤️

Bravo for being so honest and raw. Your parents brought you up to be educated and strong, and that's where you are today! An educated, strong woman who thinks for herself, knows right from wrong and makes her own decisions. They obviously love you very much. Give them time to come around. T seems like a genuine, loving person, so all is good!

Unfortunatly Confucianism still is strong in many aspects of the society in China, Singapore South Korea or Japan (to mention a few). Particularly the family structure the husband figure must provide for the family and be financially successful and have a good family background with stable proper job in a good big company.
Family is one of those things you are not able to choose but once the individual is a fully grow up person is up to him or her drive and talent to be successful.
I feel sorry for Joanna 's parents who aren't able to see how beautiful, driven, hard working and caring person her partner is.
    Keep in good light
    🤍 both of you.

I've always known you as a fitness coach who has tired-as-hell work-out sessions and is quite strict with your diet/ lifestyle - in a sense that you're so perfect, making it's hard to feel relatable even though I'm an OG followers and still watch your videos for my workouts.
But today seeing you opened up and show your vulnerabilty helped me feel much more relatable, as an sister rather than some online fitness coach. Yes your love will surely show, we just don't know when but God has his plan for us.
My dad didn't receive love and respect from my maternal side at first as well because he was poor and required my mom to convert to his religion for marriage. When my mom went thru multiple surgery and almost lost her life, my dad put everything behind, stayed by her side and helped her recover. He slowly but surely proved to my grandparents his love to his mom. And now he's my grand-dad favorite in law despite my mom has 8 siblings.
Or in my case, although my parents love and respect my boyfriend, they would not grant their bleessings until he agree to convert into my religion. But problem is his parents also want me to convert into theirs. We also just celebrate our 4th anni and still haven't figure it out yet.
May my story help strenghthen your faith. All parents always want the best for their kids, they just express it in different ways, sometimes too extreme that we can't see it straight.

Even this morning my day started with a sweet smile from you and your bootcamp workout. When I see you in tears in this video with Terrance I can't help myself but cry with you. You will always be the Goddess of fitness and health for me. Stay strong and keep inspiring more people like me :)

Thank you soooo much Joanna and Terrence for sharing your family life and goals with us! I really appreciate your honesty and welcome it with open arms. You're a great example for us all. I heard that sunlight is the best antiseptic.. meaning: bringing these deeper issues into the light and not being afraid to say what you really feel or think about something can help you to heal. I'm finally trying to do this and now I'm 30. I really admire you both. Your connection and support of eachother is very noticeable. I think being raised the way both of you were gives you a look at the flip side and will help you to be more balanced when it comes to your own relationship and family. You can provide a nourishing and loving environment, like a greenhouse where everyone can flourish and grow and find their path without harsh expectations. I wish you both love and growth.

I have had a long journey and I know that all that really matters is love and trust and honesty and kindness. It does not matter what your parents had or what education you have had. I cannot imagine anyone not being happy that their daughter has a man that loves her like Terrance loves you Joanna. He is a fine man that is responsible and hard working and good and kind. He is a blessing and a love and I believe you are both very fortunate to have each other. I have respect and kindness toward each of you and both of you together ... you will each do well no matter what. You have what it takes !!! Much love.

I think I speak for the entire community here: you are great the way you are and you are lucky to have found your own little happiness together. Families have different shapes and compositions, so please enjoy your own little family with Rusty and your other animals. I know it hurts emotionally when your family doesn't accept your partner or your choice of lifestyle. Don't let that be an obstacle to your own happiness! Only the best of you! Love your workouts joanna! I've seen this vid for months but wasn't interested tbh but now I'm glad i watched it. It's very hard to be vulnerable and honest especially when loved ones are involved. The most undisputed important reminder is you're measured by your character - how you treat others, commitment, hard work, and resiliency towards yours dreams and not with fancy titles which no one gives you the authority to belittle others btw. Lasty come back Joanna!

Dearest Joaanna and Terrence, thank you for sharing this with your followers. To you Joanna, Terrence is such a beautiful soul and you are both blessed to have each other. I am a Malaysian too and I know the way our culture is, families can be very intrusive sometimes. I live abroad now and I have learnt how to let go of family members who bring me pain and tears. Not saying that you must do that to your mum but love her, she is your mum but at the same time where Terrence is concerned do not let anyone dis-respect him. Keep supporting each other the way you do. You are both each others future. Love and light to you both and Rusty and your other pets.

I can understand the whole thing about parents not being accepting of your partner. It's really hard, especially when you've been together a long time. People say it doesn't matter but they're family, it really does matter unless you plan on cutting them out of your life. I understand most of where your mum's judgements about Terrence come from but the broken family thing is odd. There are plenty of married couples that have terrible relationships and would be better off divorced. It's actually better for the child in that situation. I agree that parents should teach their kids how to love and maintain healthy relationships and the thing is, they already do that. They do it in one way or another by modelling their relationships with each other and the other people in their lives. If they have an unhealthy relationship with each other, they're modelling that to their kids. I'm glad that you and Terrence have stayed together despite how your mum feels about him. A lot of people end relationships under the pressure of their family. I'd have a tough time managing my relationship with my mum if she looked down on my partner

It's nice to watch your love story. I am a Filipino and same culture w8th Joanna. Parents looked down on partners that are less fortunate. But when the partner is rich and a middle class they treat them well. Just like my husband my family doesn't really give my husband some importance but if it is my bro in law my mom would treat him well. The only thing is that in this interview i hope Joanna's mom will not be upset telling publicly that she doesn't like or support their relationship. And hope she'll come to realize that her daughter's partner is a good man...we don't need riches in this world. It's love what we all need

Terrence cares for you and makes you happy. That’s so important in a relationship. Blindly conservative parents will do anything to ‘protect’ their children because they ❤️ their children so much. It is sad and hurtful but Joanne, hang in there. Your parents will accept Terrence eventually realise their ‘judgements’ are reactive. Having a supportive partner is much better than someone highly educated, some CEO but hurts you and betrays you etc.

When I watched your video, I felt very emotional when you talked about your caring and concern for your partner, and how you shared to us a personal vulnerability about your Mum's opinion regsrding the person you share your life with.
I am going through the same thing with my partner (we have been together for 3 years, Mom considering he is from a broken place and not being more secure for myself) and the struggle is one of life's challenge. But I hang in there.
Please keep on being strong, keep sharing about it to people who care about you, because you are giving so much to the world, and to those special people around you. You deserve love

Hey.. Jo mam.. Hw r u.. It is not today or yesterday or an year before.. U r from 10+ years with us.. Motivating.. Explaining each and every workout.. How to do.. Why to do.. It is really awesome.. In this video we people really felt hard to see u crying.. Like a little baby.. Terrence sir is really good.. Even though his past life and urs is different.. Both are connected to each other by heart, by intentions, motto.. Way of thinking.. Terrence sir is nit responsible for his past happenings..he is matured..i don't know his language but he has great thinking, concern about future and family..Hope for the better future.. Situations some times be very bitter.. But.. Ur parents are also important.. Try to explain them.. In a convincing way.. If u get a partner who very well educated and has every good quality that ur family likes.. Ask ur parents that they can assure if that guy will be or take care like Terrence sir.. It is not completely the education that matters but the understanding person to be a partner.. Wishing you both good luck.. Keep smiling jo mam...

    Watched this .
    Here’s my two cents.
Parents come from a different age .
    A different mindset .
It’s difficult to get them to support something beyond them . But what you guys could do is to gain full control over the family. Over the elders . There should be no room for disrespect . I did this in my home , and now I’m the Bible truth .
In the end , as long as it’s right for you both , it feels good , and it is not a crime , then it’s all good ! My best regards to you , Terrence and The amazing furkid . You guys keep striving and do what makes you whole and happy .

Hey Joanna. Randomly remembered you from years ago. This totally happens in many relationships when parents don’t support the relationship. I am Vietnamese. My fiancé is Chinese but born in Vietnam. My fiancé’s mom dislikes all Vietnamese women. She’s also Chinese and talks bad about other Vietnamese women poorly. The ironic thing is all her sons got with a Vietnamese girl. She was hoping her youngest son (my fiancé) would finally be the one to get with a Chinese woman but instead, he ended choosing me.
Early on, she told him I would steal from him, I’m not to be trusted. She’d sneer at me, gossip about me, treat me very poorly. I just politely smile and stay quiet. It’s already 8 years and she has grown more accustomed. At the end of the day, you know what is right in your heart so it don’t matter what your parents say. It’s not fun but Terrance and you have the moral high ground on this. Parents will eventually accept; if they don’t, they lose years of happiness. Don’t let them pull you and Terrance down

Sorry to hear JSoh about situation with parents. You 2 seem to be evenly matched. All parents want their child to marry the dream rich person but that is their dream and not your reality. You need to live your life and meet your needs. Eventually your parents will come around. Stay strong and push forward 💪

My family is like Terrence’s family. Very simple. I thankfully had no problem with my parents or in-laws they both accepted us with open arms, but my brother is like Joanna’s mom he is vey judgmental of my spouse and looks down on my husband. I would rather not speak to my brother because he is even judgmental of me! but do so for my mother’s sake. I love how simple my parents are but like Terrence said I do wish I had gotten a bit more structure from them growing up, so now I’m determined to give my kids a better balance of both structure and freedom. Joanna and Terrence stay strong because love always prevails!

Great video. I think that anyone who makes your kid smile is the right one for your kid. If your kid finds someone who loves and respects them, what a blessing. Anyone who carries himself or herself with love and respect came from the right background. from there, life's ups and downs will just be bumps in the road.

I am also Asian, married to american. Somehow, i experienced some judgement at the start of our relationship, not from my family, but from the people who didn't know us well. But, we shrugged it off! ...keep the faith in your relationship, as long as the trust, loyalty and love is there, you will surpass all the trials and challenges!

Love each other well, be each other's biggest champion and remember that you are both on the same team no matter others' negative and unsupportive voices. In time, your parents will see through all the fluff and come to appreciate the most important thing of all in any relationship, is that you can both weather good times and stormy days and come out triumphantly together. My parents were once very against my relationship but all is well now and we will be celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary next month. God bless and take care of yourself and each other.
