One of the most anticipated releases from Fishman! Today I look at the Signature Fluence set for Mick Thomson of Slipknot. These might easily be the most complete and well-rounded set they have made to date. The voicings on this pickup are more reminiscent of the early days of active pickups (think EMG 81) but have the modern texture that Fishman brings to the table.

Gotta love editing oversights! A few Spots it says “Bridge” when it should say “Neck”… but I am sure you get the point of what is going on! 😂
You should be demonstrating the bass boost with different tunings like mick explains in his videos. There is a noticeable diffrence. There are no visible diffrences except the flat black but under the hood is a never before used magnetic configuration that's one of a kind! Great review though
Whatever the magnet configuration is, it is working for my ears! I will re-ground the purple wire and mess with the tuning to see what I can hear. I definitely saw a difference on the graph in the low end, but drop B might not be the right set up for it. Thanks for making great products!

Is this new configuration of magnets what is affecting the low end of voice 2?
Thing about the single coil inner/outer selection is if you leave the curcuit open and dont ground either side you get almost a Parallel Humbucker sound with more output but still retains the chimy bell sound you can get with coil spitting.

That would be an interesting comparison! I like the Adler Passive voice alot. It is a bit meaner than some of the other models if I remember correctly, but still has a decent bottom end.

The inner/outer thing is pretty cool!! I need a set. Might have to pull the Townsend’s out of the ec1000 for these. They sound really good in this video!
Right now I think these are their best featured set and I think it has the best active voice for my taste. Buy this set and then convince yourself you need to buy a new guitar to put them in! 😂

Emg pickups have done this for 20 years with the 89 reverse wound and their tw series
All of the New Modern 3 voice have these now.
My tip is wire it up so you can select the inner or outer coil but also make it so you can leave both circuits open.
This results in an almost parallel humbucker tone.
I feel the same about the bass boost for this set on my guitar as well.
Should have kept my order for them as they were on backorder.
Ended up settling for the Modern 3 voice.
Still a solid set. I had an open core version for a while in a guitar I ended up selling!
are they only putting these out in black right now?
Only flat black. No other color options currently.
What do you say voice two on these pickups is probably the best compatible with a boost pedal?
Voice 2 on these would mesh well with almost any boost. Voice 1 is also smooth enough to handle a boost, but voice 2 seems built for it. I initially ran these with a boss SD1 into a 5150III and it was killer on voice 2.
@@BaritoneGoatStudio finally a fishman voice that actually sounds passive huh LOL. Because to me, the other passive voices don't actually sound passive. They just sound like a lower output active basically like a EMG 707

@@barrygomez5968 it is as close as I think they will get. The KSE set is also close, but doesn’t have the bottom end these do. The open core classic PAF voice is a decent passive sound, but is also very bright and scooped like a PAF. Not super great for modern metal.
@@BaritoneGoatStudio yeah, I have heard the fishman classics in action but never played them for myself I did want to try them. They don't come stock in many guitars aside from a series of Jackson guitars the dinky line pro series I think DK modern I think they come with either fishman classic or bare knuckle

It’s possible. The studio tones are always fair game for different amps. And many of the bigger studios have access to SLO-100s. I think they were using Rivera stuff back then, but JR might have been experimenting with orange back then too.
