Really great to see a local Massachusetts company still doing it all in house. The fact that Larry is able to tell Mick in so much detail about so many of the processes is a real testament to how he must be as a owner/CEO. I can't imagine too many in his position are invested in the minutiae as much as he appears to be.
Mick Looks good and seems healthy. Glad these guys have overcome the beautiful darkness that gave us Iowa and are still kicking ass. Not really my thing anymore tbh but seeing this guys interview and working on gear makes me so happy.
@@veganskeletons4131 You must not understand that Mick (and Jim) have influenced A LOT of players to pick up a guitar. That alone is a high achievement. Also, away from Slipknot, his playing is INSANE!
Mick Thompson is by far my favorite guitar player of all time!!!! He is like the undertaker at this point! A person who rarely did interviews but now is doing them all the time!!!! lets get a slipknot podcast shall we!
Go over to the West Des Moines area and you can come across him pretty easily when there not touring. Mick and Sid still live in Iowa. Last I knew Sid was in the Urbandale area.
Very impressed with the knowledge of Mr. Fishman. I know the amount of time it took (and continues to take) to get these work centers operating as I have experience as an EE designing hardware and software to test US military avionics. I salute you Mr. Fishman!
I'm frankly a little surprised fishman hasn't ventured into High-gain amps yet. Larry seams to be really cool, and I bet he and his team could come up with something that is as game changing for amps, as the fluence line was for pickups.
Mick nailed it with Fishman having to make stuff in order to make stuff. When you're out there on the bleeding edge of development, there is little that is "off the shelf". I come from a plastics background and them making their own piezoelectric sheets blew my mind. It also makes me weirdly happy that they use a Parker Fly to test the amps with.
I never got into fishman, but my best friend, and long time band member loves to play fishman pickups, all types, inside sound boxes, holes, under bridges, saddles, whatever.
I dont usually want to talk about apperance, but Mike lost some weight? He looks good! I love these technical stuff! The minds behind smart technology how much r&d it takes too put it to the next level.
Fairly recently became a Fishman convert after years and years of being frustrated with the inconsitencies between identical models of other well known brand pickups across the price ranges. I bought a Solar with some Fishman Moderns and thought they were a little too busy sounding for me but was close to the right direction so took a punt on a pair of Classics and they're literally perfect. The exact sort of tone I've been chasing for years. I've got them in 3 of my main guitars now and another one has a Devin Townsend set.. Cannot speak any more highly of these guys, their products and their attention to tonal detail.
When i watch videos like this about how much thought, work, and detail are actually put into not only making guitars/pickups/amps but to make sure that they stay working is crazy. It honestly makes me respect and love guitars even more just by the sure amount of work and care that goes into it. It also makes me wonder that how do some of these Lutherans(I believe is the name of them) feel when they put all that hard work and dedication into creating something like that only to watch diva celebrities smash said work on stage just for sh*ts and or giggles lol. Like I know a lot either don't care or don't even know. But I know that there are some out there who do though. But this can also be said about other things as well though.
If I toured the factory myself I would swipe that big machine on the floor at 1:37 or maybe those Thinkpads sitting on the self at 18:03, the guy in the same room has a nice Thinkpad model too.
Just bought an Ibanez RGD61 with the fishman pickups and holy fucking shit these pickups are beyond anything I've EVER touched before in my life. I can never go back.
I bet you could hybridize your wiring with EMG components, as the power cables that plug into the pickups use the same connectors. Probably no way to integrate the Fishman switching with it though
It’s cool, to see things so more precise. And the whole organic kinda thing is cool, but they are making sure everything works and sounds the same as intended. I dig it ver very much. It’s cool to go and do things by hand, but I would get really upset paying a lot for something that doesn’t sound or feel good. Love it. Bought my first set of pick ups from them for a crappy feels good tele I was making into a Frankenstein. Got the Greg pick ups on there, wooo! They rock man, even use em for metal. Dumb to put more expensive pickups in a guitar that cost less, right?😂 idk. It’s one of my favorites, and has to do with those pickups.
I always found this stuff to be deeply interesting but I wasn't aloud to take craft and design in school (class sizes). I did all my own work on my basses up to current day but never found an open in a company like this in Scotland. Sad
mick is doing more interviews this year than in the past 20 years
Completely side quests now
