These two guys are probably my two favorite players in the league. I see Giddey budding into a full star, while Caruso was on the brink of becoming one before injury, including some of the best ‘on-ball’ defense in the league! Both teams will be ok with this trade so long as they both stay healthy!
2 years ago Giddey averaged 17/8/6 in only 31 minutes per game. In James Harden's last season with OKC he averaged 17/4/4 also playing 31 minutes. I'm not saying that Giddey is going to end up becoming what Harden did because he obviously isn't as talented but this shows us the potential that he has. He is a poor man's white Magic Johnson. He might average a triple double next year. OKC just made a MASSIVE mistake trading him and Caruso isn't even as good as Wiggins so the trade makes absolutely no sense. They will regret it.
I like giddey for the bulls 3 guard lineups. White/Zach are scoring guards so giddey can feed them. At 6'8 so he can matchup 2-4 size wise since most 4's are his size. Pat Williams can defend the best swingman or big 4. Against big teams chi can play zone. They need to move Vuc for a rim runner defender and when/if Lavine gets moved he can play in the back court. If balls healthy he can defend 1-3 and slot in zach spot
I'm grateful for Giddy and what he did here in OkC. He a really good player and will be a great teammate. OkC is going through changes and the chemistry was starting to fade especially in the playoffs, and this trade was a breath of fresh air for both sides, a restart, which I know Giddy and Chicago can use to get things back on track. I'll be keeping an eye on him and hope nothing but the best for this young man. 🧡Thunder Up💙
Its a win/win trade. OKC got what they needed. Bulls got what they needed. Both will flourish with their new roles. Josh Giddey would have never reached his full potential with the thunder because he doesnt fit the system. Going to the bulls to share the rock with coby will do him wonders
my only concern is what happens when that system fails? we're pretty much all-in with shai creating and everybody else spacing. the thunder used to have a great motion offense with guys cutting behind the defense, which is very much a playstyle for giddey. but shai's monster season seemed to move them away from that and when the shooting went cold against dallas, they packed the paint and made life rough for shai. there was no counter, they just played the numbers game and figured shots would eventually fall. they didn't.
@@miles6910 "made life rough for Shai" 32 pts, 8 reb, 7 ast on 50% FG doesn't sound rough to me. I know they did crowd the paint and it kinda worked? Shai got whatever he wanted but no one else could score. You can attribute that to the fact that everyone that played besides Shai and Dort having basically zero playoff experience. I'm confident in the system and I'm not worried about losing giddey for a few reasons. For the 5 out system we acquired the best possible player for said system in Caruso. This system will work against the vast majority of teams who don't have a size advantage. For when the 5 out isn't working we acquired hartenstein to help Chet against size heavy teams(Dallas, Minnesota, Denver, Etc.) the team is very versatile and the lineup can fit however they wanna play on a game to game basis. Shai will be consistent no matter what and if for some divine reason he isn't we have Jdub/Chet to take over. Chet was only a rookie and Jdub a sophomore getting meaningful playoff experience they will only get better. As for losing giddey I'm not worried because of 3 things. Shai, Cason Wallace, and Nikola Topic. Shai has been steadily improving as a playmaker year after year. His AST averages went up every year while his turnover averages went down at the same time. Cason Wallace is OKCs hidden gem. His main calling is defense but he's a surprisingly good playmaker in transition as a rookie. He can improve in the half court which I'm sure he will. Now for Topic he's our giddey replacement. Easily the best playmaker and driver in his class which fits the team perfectly and is basically all that giddey did for us last year. He was supposed to be picked top 5 before he tore his ACL which led him to fall to OKC. He will have a redshirt season with zero pressure to get back quickly like he would with other teams. The only concern is his 3 point shooting and semi lackluster defense (just like giddey) but I'm not worried as we have the best shooting coach in the league with Chip Engelland. If you don't know who he is he helped kawhi and Tony Parker become great shooters with the spurs. He left the spurs for OKC and is major reason why OKC was the best 3 point shooting team in the league last year. For his defense he gives effort and his timing is okay so he won't ever be a massive liability. The biggest factor for him is that he will come off the bench and run the 2nd unit which is exactly what OKC wanted giddey to do but he didn't want that so they traded him. I have zero doubts about this team because even if anyone of these guys don't work or if someone wants out we have the ability to just trade for someone that does with how much assets OKC possesses. They're the team to beat in the west for the next decade if you ask me.
@@miles6910 Shai is a monster they did everything they could to stop him and he still got whatever he wanted. Plus they added hartenstein and Caruso which gives a lot of versatility against both small and big teams alike. The system will change on a night to night basis depending on who they play. If something isn't working you can always make adjustments which is made easy with the new roster. Shooting was bad because giddey and Hayward got a lot of minutes they shouldn't have had because they're terrible shooters. Jdub and Chet were also in their first playoffs they'll be better next season. I'm not worried about losing giddey because Shai has been steadily improving as a playmaker year after year. OKC also drafted topic who basically plays the same as giddey so we didn't really lose much trading him.
@@miles6910 not to mention if none of this works like it's supposed to they can just ship away the treasure trove of assets for a few stars. Backup plans within backup plans which I'm confident will lead to at least one championship
Josh will be fine in Chicago if he stays there. Not sure if he is a star but he could be an All Star some day and is still 21. That the Bulls front office couldn’t get a pick from OKC is due to the fact that they just have an awful GM. And Caruso was entering a contract year and was to be moved anyway. Why not trade him for one of the most promising guards in the league? If he develops a consistent shot and starts adding actual moves and countermoves while attacking he will blossom. He jumps to early on straight drives and is relatively easy to defend this way cause he has limited lift to his game. That should be addressed even more than his shooting and the passing will be very much missed in OKC. Make no mistake, it’s up to him to grow into this and for sure he works very hard and is a realist about his flaws. I’m very impressed how he handled the whole last year after his off court drama. Much respect for him and wish him nothing but the best!!!
It was just a matter of time anyhow. Soon as Giddey came up for FA he'd surely wanted to bail so long as he had to play backup to Shai or out of position. His shot isn't terrible by no means. This is not a Simmons situation. He can definitely improve that over the next few years I bet. OKC acquired a potential win/now situation and will just have to consider it a few years down the line once Caruso has outlived his usefulness. And the stat for Giddey in Top 3 under 20 yo to have stats like that next to Magic and Luka is impressive. At such a young age, Giddey should have plenty of ceiling based on that testimonial alone. And Lonzo is a lame duck at this point looks like. I do wish him to recover and would love to see him play again because I liked his playmaking abilities. But that being what it is, they sure could use Giddey.
Great analysis, those stats on defence really make me feel more at ease with him on the defensive end. With his high IQ passing and Vuc's high IQ passing form the post we in for some more team basketball, more ball movement, which they lacked too.
thanks mate. For sure the team basketball part is gonna be fun to watch.. Imagine Lonzo getting healthy and him running alongside Giddey and White in 3-guard lineups.. all plus-sized playmakers who could easily complement each other
@@riroballs Oh yeah, not to mention the mentorship from Zo... Could do wonders for Giddey's development. Billy Donovan, Wes Unseld Jr, Dan Craig, Peter Patton (Bulls shooting coach) too. If you think about all that, PLUS the increase in protagonism he'll have from last szn to this one, he might very well be a way too early candidate for MIP this szn.
I wish we kept giddy, I think if we changed how we played him he could have really been a good asset. I wish him the best in Chicago and I am now a part Chicago fan!
Unfortunately it’s extremely hard to have 2 great PG on same team especially when SGA is super ball dominant. Kings had same issue when they had Haliburton & Fox. One would have to change their game in order for it to work & that’s the issue 💯
Can only have so many players on the team. Lots of young developing guards under contract for several years on the thunder and giddey will need to be renewed soon at probably $20-25 million a year. It just wouldn’t have been worth paying that much to keep him on a roster where his talents aren’t even going to be maximized
OKC is playing 4D chess they’re set for the next 10 years in terms of draft picks and they have the best scouts in the NBA, as a thunder fan it brings me joy knowing that our great program is finally paying off with the restructuring.
I’m a fan of the Thunder, and you make a good point. But this trade is far riskier for them than it appears. Gifdey will likely be a star this season… on the other side, Caruso has about a 50% chance of being health for the playoffs. He’s injury prone and not getting younger. If he stays healthy the Thunder are the favourites to win, if he doesn’t, they’ll be similar to last year.
If this was 10 years ago I think they would have a dynasty on their hands. It will be interesting to see how they maximize their future within this new CBA.
It's depends on the coach and his know how to Mixs and Match the players at hand in instead of playing old school Values)/ sleepers may sleep if we let them as We weep🤓*
The uniqueness about Josh and also Chet are their mental toughness and drive to be great. I always said about Chet as he progressed in putting on weight, his shot and his handle, is that he was right on schedule. Just look at his very recent run playing. Josh won’t be a Rajon Rondo as he will be driven to be great.
@@riroballs I can’t blame Sam as Josh was out of position but we saw last year in the World Cup and again this year that he embraces the big stage. I’ll miss him but I really like Buzelis, and I hope Lonzo can recover so I can root for the Bulls as a second team.
@@riroballs Riro, when I watched some early tape of Buzelis one thing stood out-his aggressiveness to loose balls and rebounds. There is a large difference between 6’3 guards and long forwards. I feel he might be the best player but I like Knecht and as a late pick Furphy.
Brother, I love your channel but "The NBA Lied about...." has to be one of the cringiest clickbait title you can choose. Who is "The NBA" anyway? You don't need that because your content is fantastic.
I think giddey has the potential to be great, that being said it was still the right idea to trade him. He will never achieve his potential on the thunder, he will only continue to get worse on the thunder, in order to shine he needs to the ball, this is shown when he was getting triples doubles at the end of the season because the stars were resting for the playoffs. He’s also not that useful defensively, so he is quite literally ball dependent, and he can’t play that style in OKC
I always thought it was a really balanced trade. Giddeys got mad upside, it really wouldn't surprise me if he pops and I'd be stoked for him even though I'm an OKC homer. He had a hard year, and could have had a great future but this changes everything for us and for him. His stoppage plays are insane. In saying all this, for Caruso to return to the prairie is epic, can't wait to see how the new lads fit in. We need to bring back Stevo too. That would be insane front line options.
Agreed, given giddey’s contract status and the thunder’s stockpile of picks and developing guards, both teams got what they needed. OKC renewing his contract at the $20-25 million he’ll probably require just wouldn’t have made sense.
its a good trade, but i think most critics were saying if the bulls had just committed to rebuilding earlier in the season and traded caruso a few months earlier they could have gotten 1st round pics
OKC are a team that will churn through great players forever as they have done since their inception. They are a very small market team. Presti is great at picking awesome young talent that's why he has so many future picks. Okc will not hang on to the great players they have. Get rid of Josh and bring in more players and you'll piss off the stars they already have with less court time and lower contracts. They can't afford to keep everyone. It's happened constantly. Having a thousand picks is not good for current players, their value is diminished. Josh was smart to get out. Who will be next? J Will. Is my pick.
Josh will take a big leap next season. He was just used poorly by us last season because Chet came in and J Dub took a leap and those two plus SGA have great playmaking skills and that just reduced Josh to being that forth or fifth guy on the team. And all that competitive team's need from the forth and fifth guys are defense and three point shooting and those aren't his strong points so he came off looking very rough. But I've been saying since his rookie year that he was one of the best playmakers in the league. He has that natural high basketball IQ that cant be taught and if he is given the keys to an offence then he will be one of the most fun players in the league to watch. I don't want to compare him to Harden because he wont be that good. But I think it will be a similar situation. Harden was one of the best players in the NBA, even at OKC. Literal months after the 2012 finals he put up 37, 12 and 6 in his Rockets debut and then scored 45 in his second game and was basically the James Harden we all know now ever since. He was that guy with us, we just never gave him the opportunity to show it. Giddey will be like that too. Once he gets the opportunity to play in a system that utilizes his strengths to the maximum he will become a very nice player.
Yah..... no... thats silly. He did/does not fit OKC and unlike other people, ive had no delusions as to how good he is and what he could become. If he runs the offense 70-80% of the game, dude should develop into an amazing floor general. Which is not what OKC needed or even could use. For the last 2 seasons, tgere has not been a single line up with Giddey, that was in the positive. Because their offense makes everyone a point guard with each individual having a more traditional secondary skill set/role. In Giddeys case, they needed his second role to be a 3D guy, which is not at all the skill set hes been developing his whole life. OKC got what they needed. The Bulls got what they needed.
Sam already said it, if he would have been ok with going to the bench he'd still be there but they all know he's a star at lead guard but they got 2 already he's not a star at the 3
I got ridiculed for saying that OKC deserved at least five extra picks from the Bulls (whilst everyone else asked OKC to give picks to the Bulls). Josh Giddey already is infinitely better than Caruso has ever been at his peak. And he's only 21yo and he's been playing in an off-position at OKC
Not thinking about whatever happened off the court, he has a lot of promise even tho he is not prospected to be as good as we thought a couple years ago he still has upside while Alex is going to regress sooner rather than later. It’s not the rout I would of taken from the bulls POV and josh Griddey had a horrible second half to the season last year including the playoffs when they needed him the most and he was so bad he got benched but he still has a decent amount of upside as a young player. If I was a bulls fan I would be mad they didn’t go after 1-2 picks but seeing how so many players are getting traded for a couple second rounders or lower value firsts like klay and Murray they probably couldn’t get a lot of value from 99% of the teams in picks, pretty much every team other than okc wouldn’t give up picks and okc didn’t either so maybe they didn’t were not going to either. 🤷♂️
If that was the trade, the Lakers would have to trade DLO n Hui For Zach, i would still do it, tho. Now, the next question would be Does DLO come off the bench because it's now the Coby show but would be the worst defensive guard combo in the league
Thus kid can play and has a very high ceiling. As a thunder fan I like the trade for Caruso. We are in win now mode, and Caruso will help more than giddey.
not much high ceiling talent out there that ppl r willing to move and which fits yr team on a semi rebuild, and then u have a high demand champ piece like caruso. to me the trade is a no brainer.
honestly if he gets good and get to play thats all that matters, the stupid drama where he's the victim took away so much from him, he'll be made fun of for life but hopefully he'll stay strong
We loved Giddy on our team, but he did not match our game and his defense is not as good as you make it out to be. Getting Caruso is a huge step forward for OKC. Thunder are Juggernauts in defense.
yeah it's definitely about the potential on defense for Giddey right now but the tools are there and he's a better defender than given credit for. Caruso definitely gives Okc what the team needs atm
To the Bulls, just be ready for Giddy to be a liability on defense and he needs to be a ball hog in order to be effective. Plus, his shooting of 3s is abysmal so teams will just leave him open. Be ready, Bulls!
As long as he's not expected to make 250 threes a year he will be a great player and the poor mans frans wagner minus any sort of a jumpshot! But yes if 15 pts \8 ast \8-10 rebounds average should be close to his average in chi is that a star?
The thing is… I love Caruso. But he’s so injury prone… and when you need him he’s hurt. But hopefully he has a healthy year and contributes. I don’t like Giddey or his game.
As a Chicago fan i think its a bit complicated but the gist of why its not a good feeling trade is because Caruso was legit the most watchable player in the Bulls, while giddey has his off the court issues so along with OKC having all the picks in the world i feel like getting like a single second round pick would have made the trade more palpable for the fans. Not to mention the Bulls arent really in a time crunch while OKC has like 3 years b4 all those meaty contracts push some players out so its OKC who is in a time frame. So its not about if its even but just it looks bad. Its like trading a freshly printed 100 dollar bill for 100 dollars worth of old quarters that need to be washed.
Nothing has changed about Josh Giddey, he just has the ball more for Australia and can create his own stuff which he couldn't do his last year in OKC, he still has a terrible jumpshot that looks like hes tryna clap mid shot and can't play defence at 6.8 (that has always baffiled me). He'll have great box score numbers in Chicago, but obviously it won't lead to winning. Josh was the face of my country last year, but his reputation is in ruins and I'm so glad hes out of my OKC.
What most Giddey stans fail to understand is the Thunder traded Josh to win now. The Thunder are not a vehicle for Giddey's development. He and Caruso are way different players and the Thunder lost nothing by trading Giddey and bringing in AC and iHart. That will be painfully obvious for Giddey stans next season. The Thunder are years away from Josh and the Bulls. Its not even close. I'm a Bulls fan as well as Okc. They'll be no regrets on either side. But the Bulls are rebuilding. The Thunder are built. Yeah for sure. Bulls 3-guard lineups are gonna be fun to watch especially if Lonzo Ball stays healthy. He can play great defense as well
I'm grateful for Giddy and what he did here in OkC.
Going to the bulls to share the rock with coby will do him wonders
facts
my only concern is what happens when that system fails? we're pretty much all-in with shai creating and everybody else spacing. the thunder used to have a great motion offense with guys cutting behind the defense, which is very much a playstyle for giddey. but shai's monster season seemed to move them away from that and when the shooting went cold against dallas, they packed the paint and made life rough for shai. there was no counter, they just played the numbers game and figured shots would eventually fall. they didn't.
Much respect for him and wish him nothing but the best!!!
solid analysis especially with his defense... so excited for Giddey with the bulls
Giddey is the better player now, that's why no draft picks were exchanged. Caruso is a better fit for OKC though.
Josh Giddey was BALLIN
#THEPREDATOR
Initially, I also felt like we got fleeced too, but I did want alex to get traded because he is overvalued by other teams. Seems like an even trade.
Definitely agree man. Josh is probably gonna be Rondo on roids with much better shot making
@@riroballs I can’t blame Sam as Josh was out of position but we saw last year in the World Cup and again this year that he embraces the big stage. I’ll miss him but I really like Buzelis, and I hope Lonzo can recover so I can root for the Bulls as a second team.
true..he just looks like a totally different player with the ball in his hands. Buzelis is a star
@@riroballs Riro, when I watched some early tape of Buzelis one thing stood out-his aggressiveness to loose balls and rebounds. There is a large difference between 6’3 guards and long forwards. I feel he might be the best player but I like Knecht and as a late pick Furphy.
Yeah i mean Buzelis and Giddey could be special together..although we got a steal in Topic
Brother, I love your channel but "The NBA Lied about...." has to be one of the cringiest clickbait title you can choose. Who is "The NBA" anyway? You don't need that because your content is fantastic.
will keep that in mind brother.. thanks!!
Lets be truthful the bulls have improved without Major Moves👍🤓*
Giddey is a star. Let him cook on the bulls.
💪
Looking at this closer, it does look like a potentially mutually beneficial trade.
Giddey is good money… can’t wait to see him play where MJ did 😊
But okc fans said this was crazy no one listened
Giddey is basically a tall John Stockton, which is scary. Will be an excellent NBA player.
true!
Stockton was a better shooter and more efficient but giddey is taller and can be better switching
@@Cory-zn5mq Obviously they are still different humans but yes Giddey has high potential to be excellent.
its a good trade, but i think most critics were saying if the bulls had just committed to rebuilding earlier in the season and traded caruso a few months earlier they could have gotten 1st round pics
For a thirty year old ‘very’ injury prone player. Delusion.
Once he gets the opportunity to play in a system that utilizes his strengths to the maximum he will become a very nice player.
another great analysis
thanks man!
Nice video. Got me thinking!
thanks mate!
Same as the James Harden situation, Giddey is gonna be a star and OKC will regret giving up on him.. too bad
Yah..... no... thats silly.
Fit is the most important thing. I hope Giddey shines and earns a max extension. There was just not room for him. Thunder fan wishing him well.
Giddey doesn’t fit the thunder play style it’s not like he’s bad but he doesn’t fit
Sam already said it, if he would have been ok with going to the bench he'd still be there but they all know he's a star at lead guard but they got 2 already he's not a star at the 3
That’s not happening
Just magic and luca? Did Jason Kidd's stat line fly over your head or something!
Jason Kidd averaged 16 9 and 6 at age 22.. only Magic Luka and Giddey put up those numbers aged 20 or younger
Giddey is a better basketball player than role player Caruso… people don’t understand ball
I have no doubts about that
I’m Giddey over Josh!
So what of Coby White?
Too bad OKC doesn't have the VW-CP3 connection. 45+ wins this season.
If that was the trade, the Lakers would have to trade DLO n Hui
For Zach, i would still do it, tho.
Now, the next question would be
Does DLO come off the bench because it's now the Coby show but would be the worst defensive guard combo in the league
Thus kid can play and has a very high ceiling. As a thunder fan I like the trade for Caruso. We are in win now mode, and Caruso will help more than giddey.
Now all the bulls need is cooper flagg.
Don't sleep on Rocco Zirkasky 😉
The team he played for was in the playoffs. They felt they were better with out that guy! Literally
not much high ceiling talent out there that ppl r willing to move and which fits yr team on a semi rebuild, and then u have a high demand champ piece like caruso. to me the trade is a no brainer.
Spurs have the lottery pick of the Bulls (top 10 protected). Spurs could have four lottery chances for Cooper Flagg.
honestly if he gets good and get to play thats all that matters, the stupid drama where he's the victim took away so much from him, he'll be made fun of for life but hopefully he'll stay strong
Giddey will get that max extension which shows why the Bulls lost that trade 😂
To the Bulls, just be ready for Giddy to be a liability on defense and he needs to be a ball hog in order to be effective. Plus, his shooting of 3s is abysmal so teams will just leave him open. Be ready, Bulls!
As long as he's not expected to make 250 threes a year he will be a great player and the poor mans frans wagner minus any sort of a jumpshot! But yes if 15 pts \8 ast \8-10 rebounds average should be close to his average in chi is that a star?
Giggity Giggity Kiddy Diddler Diddy Giddey
Giddey will do well in Chicago as long as they find a way to dump LaVine and give him some real opportunity
Wide open 3s under 35%.... He is not a good 3p shooter so it doenst help Bulls that much... The paint will be crowded
Win win means okc win twice? Lol
The thing is… I love Caruso. But he’s so injury prone… and when you need him he’s hurt. But hopefully he has a healthy year and contributes. I don’t like Giddey or his game.
The thing is, no one cares who you “like,” Miss Social Media 😂

As a Chicago fan i think its a bit complicated but the gist of why its not a good feeling trade is because Caruso was legit the most watchable player in the Bulls, while giddey has his off the court issues so along with OKC having all the picks in the world i feel like getting like a single second round pick would have made the trade more palpable for the fans. Not to mention the Bulls arent really in a time crunch while OKC has like 3 years b4 all those meaty contracts push some players out so its OKC who is in a time frame. So its not about if its even but just it looks bad. Its like trading a freshly printed 100 dollar bill for 100 dollars worth of old quarters that need to be washed.
you guys will love Giddey a hundred percent
Nothing has changed about Josh Giddey, he just has the ball more for Australia and can create his own stuff which he couldn't do his last year in OKC, he still has a terrible jumpshot that looks like hes tryna clap mid shot and can't play defence at 6.8 (that has always baffiled me). He'll have great box score numbers in Chicago, but obviously it won't lead to winning. Josh was the face of my country last year, but his reputation is in ruins and I'm so glad hes out of my OKC.
None of it matters with Billy still being the coach! He sucks!!!!
And the OkCarushow merch is on the way.
