    My thermostat housing exploded today on my 2017 with 153K done. I knew you'd probably have a video on how to replace it and watched this while waiting for the tow truck. Thanks to you I checked the bleed pipe while waiting and sure enough it broke too. Dealer has a new housing already in stock but had to order the bleed pipe. I would have been out of action a few days longer only for your video as I'd have had no replacement bleed pipe. Tackling this job tomorrow once I have the parts. Thank you so much for taking the time to upload these videos, they make these jobs so much easier for us. Proper gent.

    The Thermostat housing for the Ford Galaxy 2.0 TDCI 2016-2019 is the exact same part so this video is a great help. The thermostat had failed closed on my Galaxy and the coolant overtemp warning came on. The expansion tank had bubbling water right to the top and the thin return pipe was hot. The pipe to the radiator was cold.
    I sprayed WD40 into the expansion tank pipe connector on the housing and got it out without breaking it by twisting it a bit while pulling very slowly. Also make sure you buy the 2 o-rings for the rear pipe (cost £12 each from dealers). The existing o-rings can get damaged when pulling the housing off.

    Hi. Fitst of all: Great videos!
    I have the following problem: My temp gauge will rise if I use webasto to preheat the car before starting. But as soon as I start the temp will drop dramatically. It will start to rise slightly if I don't drive but as soon I start driving the gauge will drop to minimun. For me it sounds like thermostat stuck open but not sure. Just trial&error for a 300e part sounds costly. What do you think?

    Thanks for the video.....mine was loosing coolant but couldn't see any tell tales of water pooling anywhere on the gearbox housing, I recently purchased my car so no idea of full history but it does have dealer stamps in the book and receipts for the timing belt / water pump done at 139K miles and there is evidence of thermostat related bits sat under the expansion tank (spring and O rings) so guessing it could be on it's 3rd thermostat now as it's at 142k miles and could have been done at the same time as the belt and water pump. Upon watching this video it would seem that the thermostat housing looks to be relatively new but the return pipe to the expansion tank on mine is a normal piece of 1 inch rubber tube that is jubilee clipped in place rather than the smaller pipe. (the jubilee clips are still shiny !!) I'm not convinced that jubilee clips will do the job here as there's not much for it to grip with the type of union so have just ordered that part for now and see if this cures the issue. I discovered the coolant loss issue when my heater stopped blowing warm air so popped the bonnet and as a lot of coolant had been lost I did note a bit of steam coming from around the expansion tank area so panicked and turned the engine off quickly. It hadn't overheated and the temp gauge were normal at that stage so no damage. I've no other symptoms that leads me to believe it's a head gasket issue at this stage so I were very puzzled at the water loss.....Thanks for such an informative video Alan...really appreciated, hopefully it's just the pipe!

    HI, After removing everything else, stuck on the very last part before disconnecting the thermostat. After loosening the rear bracket, the thermostat doesn't seem to want to come off the rear hose. It doesn't want to twist and wriggling it up and down doesn't help. When I pull it towards me something is stopping it, making a banging noise when I try to pull it towards me but can't find anything obstructing it. Is there anything I'm missing? Have a 2017 galaxy. Also can you advise on any types of sprays to loosen this as both the rear pipe and the part that it connects to on the thermostat (where the clamp is) are both hard plastic. THANKS!

    When I drove out of motorway appeared the key notification and after a few meters I accelerated but the car didnt want to accelerate anymore. I hold on and switch the engine off and it never started again!
    I think it can be bloke sealing or EGR!

    I had not a common situation with my thermostat. It didn't leak and the top hose wasn't so much hot as I thought it would be, the only not good sign was that the car was warming up very slowly. I had to drive about 12miles to get the engine hot. I wasn't sure if the thermostat was wrong or maybe something else, because usually when a thermostat doesn't close, the top hose is getting hot quickly but in my situation it wasn't even much warm to think it can be this issue with constant open. I took a risk and I've replaced my thermostat. It turned out that it was the fault of the thermostat. Now, I need 6miles to get the engine hot in a winter weather about 0 outside. I drive with AC on for the whole year, so it was taking very long to get the engine hot. I think I would not know on summer that I have broken thermostat.

      Turns out it was a leaking thermostat, just like you said. The expansion tank was actually filled to slightly over max, but when I removed the cap, there was a whooshing noise, and all the coolant disappeared into the pipes. I guess the intermittent temperature was due to pockets of air in the system. Just as well I didn't drive far like that!

      Let me help you out here...maybe too late BUT
      EGR valve and pipe to exhaust manifold need cleaned every 50k kilometers, also need to check operation, most of the time the electric motor that deals with it is totally fine, but its worth checking operation to see if anything is worn.
      Make sure there is no cracking around the exhaust manifold, usually It'll happen around the EGR pipe.
      DPF and fuel vaporiser need cleaned every 50k kilometers. Probably even the intake manifold needs cleaned out by 75-80k kilometers, I know every one I've seen has needed to be cleaned out IME.
      You can prevent a lot of this headache with a GOOD QUALITY oil/air separator, one that has a 1 micron coalescing filter. Drain every service and replace filter every 40k kilometers.
      An example unit for reference, that I use, is the RCC351K kit from Ryco in Australia. Otherwise a popular well known unit is PROVENT. The ryco unit has basically copied its design.
      Happy Diesel driving!

    Thank you so much for another helpful video. I'm no mechanic but do find myself fixing my car myself just because I enjoy it. I actually have a Peugeot traveller but it's the same engine and need a bit more help if possible. The heater pipe that come out the back of the thermostat housing has a special clip and mines broke and I can't get a hold of another pipe from Peugeot since it's on back order with an unknown ETA. I've removed the clip of the old heater pipe and plan on using a reducer coupler or reducer pipe with spring type clamps, do you think that's a safe option. I only ask because I'm not sure if spring clamps would be strong enough to hold the pipe since Peugeot didn't use them for whatever reason. If you have the part number for that heater pipe it would really help so maybe I can source a used one even though the Ford pipe is slightly different I can try work with it. Also the pipe with 2 O rings, where does that go? Sorry about my massive question lol

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  ปีที่แล้ว

      i take it the clip is the one that holds the heater pipe from the heater matrix connection on the baulkhead to the thermostat housing..the clip holds the pipe onto the housing, i have spare clips..i can put one on ebay for you tomorrow and message you.
      the pipe with the 2 o rings goes around the back of the engine behind the dpf and into the rear of the engine casing which the water pump fits into..you dont want to disturb that if you can help it

      @TheAriiiiii ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alan4x Thanks that would be great but I would like to replace the o rings also if you have them also. • @TheAriiiiii
      @TheAriiiiii ปีที่แล้ว

      @Alan Howatt Hi Again, it's actually the clip for the pipe that goes to the water pump I believe. The heater matrix pipe has the 2 -O- rings on the peugeot. Anyways, out of 2 pipes 1 has a bolt clip and one has a clip, I need that clip.

      if you are losing that amount of coolant there must be a pretty obvious leak ,,,the common places for leaking coolant on those engines are the thermostat housing, the egr valve, the water pump and the main radiator

My Thermostat housing failed and I lost the coolant, heater stopped working but engine ok. The repair cost AUS$1395. My question is can the thermostat be replaced separately to the housing or are they one complete assembly?
    I ask this as the car has an extended warranty that specificall mentions the thermostat as included in the warranty. If the housing cannot be separated from the housing then I think I can and should claim this as a warranty repair. Cheers
