Great review of the Chevy Silverado 2500. I am a fan of Diesel engines but I do like having options. But people need to stop hating and griping on those who want to buy a diesel. If someone can afford either that’s their business. As long they take care of it and get good use for what they need it for that’s all that matters. At least Chevrolet has put the 10 speed transmission behind the gas engines. It gives the driver more gearing and better mileage.

With the 10 speeds and these upgraded engines Ford and Chevy are really reducing the use cases where you actually do need the diesel. Even for larger 5th wheels now as RV miles has been demonstrating. Would've been even better if Chevy would come out with the big block 454 again and have 500hp or more. I LOVE chrome on vehicles. Just makes it look so much better. Even chrome dual exhaust tips'.I like the turn signals near the hood because it reminds me of the 1961 Chevy truck.

Thanks for making this video, I have been waiting for TFL to make an MPG test with the new 10speed mated to the 6.6l Gasser, to see if there is an improvement from the 6-speed. I had been watching the other guy's channel since he had a lot of info and testing using his newly purchased Silverado. I was kind of hoping you guys would do a collab, like "dude I love or hate my truck" kind of thing since he lives in the area. Too bad there was a miscommunication, maybe he can still reach out and things can get sorted out still.

I take immaculate care of my 2012 2500HD Silverado Ext Cab, 32k miles, and I love it! I upgraded from my 2009 after they changed the running gear in 2011 to use the 3500HD type on both. I added a bed rug, matching Leer glass cap w/all options, wheel well flairs, rear wheel well liners, full cab Westin boards and window shades. The truck is an LT, and optioned with about everything but leather. I did install leather seat covers. About 1 1/2 years ago, when you couldn't buy an HD truck, a stranger pulled into my driveway and started looking at my truck. He asked about the mileage, I said 32k why!?? He then offered me $45,000 cash for it!! 10 years old, and I paid $42,000 for it, before bolt on options!! About 2 weeks later the local Chevy dealer drove in with the part runner truck. He looks it all over, and offered me $17,000 cash for it. No bueno. It has the 6.0L LS gas engine, 3.71 w/plow pkg/locking rear end and Allison 6 speed. w/360hp 360tq it gets right down the road. We parked our 5th wheel at a seasonal site the year I bought the truck, it's never towed/pulled anything. It's my keeper!! 8) --gary

@@nocturnalspecialties642 I never knew for sure, but I was told by a mechanic that it is the Allison 1000. They got the design when GM owned Allison, and its the same one they put in the diesel trucks. All GM made even after they sold Allison. It was in the sales agreement!?. It works great, and just like Allison's I've driven. I've been very happy with that and the 6.0 LS iron block, either way. 8) --gary

@gtr1952 The only allison 1000 behind a gas burner was with the 8.1L engine.

Many ambulances and 1 ton small fire/rescue trucks in my area have switched to gas burners. It was due to several things. Issues with the diesel emissions systems. And budget/cost. With all the increased maintenance acquisition cost, DEF, and fuel costs. They estimated they can replace the gas engine if needed twice and break even.

Need a tow test / mileage review vs Diesel not just a first impression. Ironically the gasser has more towing capability than the diesel in certain configurations i.e, hitch vs 5th wheel. Seems it only really makes sense to get the Duramax if you tow daily or very often.

More ratio is such a positive when it comes to towing. My GMT800 Yukon Denali car had the engine to tow, but the 4 speed transmission could only shift between "calm and collected" and "OMG the engine is going to RPM itself into a pile of piston mcnuggets". No in-between.
Now if only I could have this 10 speed in that car.....

Did chevy get rid of the cylinder deactivation on the HD gas? If so, I would now consider them a viable option, especially with the venerable Alison tranny. I chose a 22 ford with 7.3 gas and 10 speed as it was the best option at the time. Ram remains 3 laps down in a 10 lap race with their pathetic torque numbers at 1500 rpm.

Of course what you talk during the driving is interesting info but the outside view while driving would be a good touch for the video.

When you increase the radius of a tire, it now requires more torque from your driveline to turn that larger tire. This generally does not have much of a negative effect on the engine components themselves, although it will now require the engine to work harder to maintain the same speed as before.
