Enjoyed your video. I have the same truck (AT4 trim), had 1.5yrs and 23k miles. Love it. Tows/drives/functions perfectly. I learned things about the tailgate watching your video. Had the same bolt come loose under the hood. No oil consumption. Added Bilstein shocks and made a big difference. Agreed about the gear indication. My truck doesn’t tell if tailgate is opened.
Youve got a heck of a truck. I wish I could option a 40/20/40 bench on those because I have a family of 6. Seems there are fewer and fewer options from all the manufacturers when it comes to higher trims that have a front bench.
I have a 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 with a 6.6 gas engine and 6-speed transmission. It has been my daily driver and official vacation vehicle for four years. It now has around 130,000 miles on the clock. So far, the only non-consumable I have had to replace was a $12 cap on the top of the windshield washer bottle. The dealer has always done maintenance, and I pay for the more detailed "severe" service schedule. Oil consumption is consistently, one quart every 5,000 miles. The original brakes are at 68% front and 79% rear. I never tow and my fuel mileage is around 12 mpg in town and 17 mpg on long trips. I live in Florida and the truck has no rust and an a/c unit that makes life bearable in the summer. To this day, this truck is the best vehicle I have ever owned.
@@jimmyneutron3055 Plugs and wires will get replaced every 100,000 miles. Transmission gets flushed every 50,000 miles. Front, rear, and center diferentals get new fluid every 50,000 also.
@@jimmyneutron3055 I am now at 139K with the truck. Transmission gets flushed every 50K. Plugs and wires get changed every 100K. All the other fluids, F, R & Center 4x4 differential are serviced every 50K. A little over the top but I would rather pay for a fluid change than a damaged bearing in the middle of nowhere.
The noise is gone👍🏻 thank you for figuring it out! What are the chances and also is that an assembly line flaw? Who knows. Thanks again my truck is super quiet now🤙
My dad purchased the 24 at4 HD gas and after a month or so we noticed the same rattle sound but could never find the source. A couple months later i purchased the 24 zr2 HD gas and ITS GOT THE SAME RATTLE! I will be checking this bolt on both our trucks and see if that is our issue as well!
I have 2023 Silverado with baby duramax . When lease up going with 2500 hd with bucket seats , the interior what sold getting Chevy love what Gm did to refresh truck great review Tim
My FIL has a '20 6.6 over in TN. Tows his 13k travel travel all over the U.S with it. About 90,000 miles so far. No issues. I got a chance to drive it. I was impressed. It compares well to my 7.3 gasser. Which suprised me given how much smaller it is. Definitely gets better fuel economy. I scored 19 mpg during my time with it. My 7.3 averaged 13. My all time best was 15 but extremely difficult to do. Im a conservative driver. Those 4.30s and 35s dont help with mpg
24' 2500 Silverado crew standard bed. L8T . Custom BEST TRUCK EVER ...... added a catch can to help the valves. Solid engine and trans. I gravitate towards the gauges and work dashboard . Can't imagine being on the highway and getting trouble with your dash. Will trust analog over digital for reliability. However, very few people had that problem.
@glennmiller1183 oil catch "oil separator." Small cylinder with a metal mesh filter inside and connected in the return line (air) to the intake, so catch the oil before reaching your valves, due to Direct Injection and not Port Injection, you get many carbon building in the back of the valves. Valves can be clean by maintenance, but the catch can help to prevent build up. Brand J&L
@@MIIIB I just ordered one for my 2024 2500-HD L8T and I am hearing that they may void the warranty if these are installed on them. I may just take it off if it has to go in if that's the case. Your thoughts?
I also own a 2024 Chevy 2500HD and I had the same exact rattle and it was the coolant bottle and I just tightened it down and I have not had the problem since. Awesome video...
Thanks for all the great content on the L8T. I think the SLE or silverado LT trim levels are really good values. Seems like a major oversight to not have 12V power but you could always add that in custom.
I have a 2024 Chevy 2500HD Custom 6.6l gasser with no oil consumption issues. No problems with the truck at all. I like how you stated it's not a race truck. Solid though.
I have this engine and transmission in a 24 GMC dually. I pull a 15,600 pound 41 foot rv with it and the truck does great. Never burns oil even when pulling. Had trouble with the trailer brakes this past summer. GM replaced a part in the rear of the truck over the spare tire, part of a recall. Only 5500 miles on it. Only used for pulling the RV. Did 3000 miles pulling the RV this past summer. Great truck so far..
Nice review. I love my 2022 2500 LT Silverado. Coming up on 54,000 miles. So far I’ve had no issues. It’s on trips back to the dealer was to let them complete some of their add ons (interior protectant, paint sealant) and then for a recall. I took delivery on the same day the truck came in and so I actually wanted them to do the interior protectant that they do so we scheduled it for a week or so after I took delivery and then the recall was for installing the correct front shocks. My truck is a Z71 and has the HD Front Springs/Camper package. So instead of getting the Ranchos on the front it had the standard GM shocks. Mine is also my favorite truck that I’ve had. My only regret is messing up on the order and not getting the power fold mirrors with the auxiliary lighting. And then a do over for me would be getting bucket seats instead of the bench.
You're truck looks awesome! I have a '24 chev, white, ltz, same config., gas. I really really like it. IMO, the 10 speed trans. totally makes it. I just lucked out by waiting for the '24 and getting the 10 speed, didn't realize it would be this good. I love the multi tailgate too and really wouldn't have ordered it but mine came with it. I don't have a huge trailer and it pulls it like it's not there.
My Xmas gift is a 2025 Chevy 2500 HD LTZ 6.6L L8T Gas Truck, love it. Tough to get over all the electronics from my 2013 2500HD 6.0, which my son now has.
Ive had my truck 5 months now, almost exactly same as yours, but its a 3500 chevy LT. My start button is the same, sometimes it takes a little more effort. I wish it had a little more storage on the dash or in the seat console. I don’t feel like there is a very good spot for my phone when its plugged in. Other than that, ive been very happy with it.
I probably would've gotten an SLT or AT4 if it weren't for those concrete seats. Super Duty seats are the most comfortable I've ever been in. That and a few other things (stronger engine, big fuel tank with the long bed, massaging seats in a trim down from the top one, pano sunroof, tailgate down camera and sensors, etc.) put me in a Ford. Not married to it though. GM comes through on some of that stuff in 5 years I'll be giving them another look for sure.
We just bought a 2025 Chevrolet 2500HD with the gas engine. Love everything about it so far! I REALLY wanted to go for the MultiPro tailgate, but the issues with it running into the receiver hitch was a deal breaker for me. I have a Shocker Hitch, so taking that off and on all the time is not realistic.
I hear you! Great point. Always a give and take there. I am super cautious about remembering to lockout the inner tailgate when I tow cause I know I'll forget one of these days. Thank you for the comment.
@@domfalson1561 Not going to pay for a feature I can’t use. We use our hitch so frequently, it rarely comes off. This is just one situation where the Ford step tailgate is superior.
Oh wow, that's crazy. I think you're the 3rd one to comment on the same exact bolt rattling. I was beside myself, especially after going to lenghts to take the door panel off!
I agree that GMC has really stepped it up. I would like to see the gear as well and my air compressor runs on the old 12volt plug. All valid points. A software update for the gear would be great. I actually got the 3500 diesel Denali but I still watch your channel because I was really torn on which one to get. I was able to get a 24’ diesel for the price of the 25’gas. Though the leather seats look nice the clothes seats were more comfortable. I did a 200 mile test with no load driving country back roads and some 70 mph highways and got 20 mpg. I’m very impressed with those numbers and the power but I know it comes at a slight bit more maintenance cost. Thanks for the video. Keep em coming. 👍🏻
Great review! I currently have a 1500 Elevation and maybe soon looking at the same truck you have. To pick up on your comment about no PRNDL display on the dash display it in plan site just below the drive mode. I believe you had yours displaying the “normal” mode. When recording your video it display “P” for park. Later you must of had your truck in drive as it was showing a “D”. Simple fix…😊
Coming off of 14 years of owning a Toyota Sequoia and having literally zero issues other than wear and tear until the first minor electrical wear out this month in 14 years in... I was REALLLLY hoping you were going to point out more faults with this thing! Because God is this truck (AT4 Black on Black) calling my name! The HD's in general are just the best looking trucks ever made and the black on black AT4 is just extra powdered sugar on the icing for the looks... But man are they expensive! I'm not even a truck guy..... have no need for a truck or towing above what I can do with my Sequoia at all... its just the looks... so I was definitely weary of jumping into a GM with all the issues they have had in the past... and the fact I have been completely trouble free on my Toyota for nearly 1.5 decades makes me cautious about swapping to GM... But the tundras just look like silly toys compared to these beasts...
I have a 1500 Crew Cab and I’m thinking about replacing it with a 2500 gas just for that engine. No start stop, no turbo, no cylinder cut off. A normal iron block engine.
I have a 2024 Chevy 2500hd and I really like the engine and transmission. I bought it new in November 2023 and have put 23,000 miles on it without a single issue. My only complaint are the terribly uncomfortable front seats. A complete idiot made those seats! I had rather sit on concrete in a parking lot!
The recalls should resolve your 7 pin concerns - i had them done and i have no issues with my 2023 TT. Also there is a toggle in the android auto setup that allows you to start up in android auto on the truck.
I have a 2018 chevy 1500 with the 327 engine it has 135,000 miles on it and I pull a 30 foot camper with it ,it has never used 1 drop of oil.My brother has a 2018 Ford with a 5.0 it has used oil after he put 50,000 miles on it,he has also had to rebuild the transmission at 102,000.
I totally agree on wishing there was a gear indication. I am actually going to mount a scan guage to indicate it. Also wish there was a digital indication of engine coolant temp. On Ford trucks, you can use Forscan to add the numbers to the dash. Wish GM allowed something similar.
Hi Justin. Omgosh, I’ve had the same rattle (I believe) and also took the door off and found nothing. I can’t wait to see if that’s it. And I’m with you on the gear indicator. That should be included for sure. Thanks bro.
@@AdventureRockssure enough. That bolt was loose so I tightened. No more rattle. I can’t believe that noise was traveling that far into the cab. Thx Justin.
@@prettybadboylagerberg6385I'm surprised how many have mentioned the same rattle source. Glad it's easy to get to at least. Mine hasn't returned yet after 9ish months.
I have a '24 chevy custom trim and it has a 12v, USB, USB-c, and a 110v outlet in the dash and USB's at rear seat. I think the dealer didn't order them options with that trim
Thank you for the comment. Basically on the 2024 trims that feature the previous interior, they still get the 12V port, so GM Pro trim too. Just not on SLE and higher. It's crazy how they just aren't on the new refrshed trim. Hopefully they'll get added back in future.
that silver is beautiful and that wheel pkg is perfect for stock truck...GM has best overall HD imo though not perfect....almost nabbed one but was a lil to far away, really hard to find a gasser when I was shopping....was in between 24s being mostly sold and 25s still coming in it is actually amazing the ratio of diesels to gas produced in this segment...... the multipro is a gamechanger...same as you didnt think much but then had it on half ton, went to a 3/4 without and missed having it so much it was a big reason I got another one, especially how tall these trucks are...tthey make a special hitch for it and you can lock the gate so it wont function if needed. great truck should last you along time, obviously with the computers they are bound to have glitches....mine has been really good so far aside from the first week of ownership......
OMG! Such insignificant issues most of which are directed at screens that have nothing to do with safe driving. My 2024 Chevy HD 2500 is 13 months old and yes only has 5500 miles on it but the 10 speed is awesome, no auto stop/start or cylinder deactivation. The LT has this beautiful dash with so many useless features that only distract a driver from the one thing they should be focused on. Call me old school but navigating a 3 ton vehicle should require ones full attention forward. The truck? EXCELLENT!
I had the same rattle on my 2022, only it was a loose heatshield behind the driver side dash. My rattle sounded like the dash. Shop figured it out pretty quickly, but i was also going into the dash.
I appreciate your review. Comparable Silverado 2500 HD with 703 miles in 2 months. Still trying to sort out the furrion camera issue. 12 volt adapter from Amazon to USB C powers the monitor, but not enough to keep monitor constantly on. 8 watt, 2amp. Should work. That's my biggest beef with a truck that's designed to tow. Have called Lippert (Furion camera systems) and it appears the space and time continuum is disrupted by the flux capacitor, as you mentioned. $70.00 pigtail between the 7way connection might rectify. On my survey response to GM I mentioned the lack of 12v. Outlet as my biggest disappointment. Maybe they'll listen to us. No dashcam; air compressor; backup camera etc. without it. I'll check the bolt holding down the reservoir tomorrow. Love your content and straightforward delivery.
I appreciate your feedback. I assume you're suggesting a wire from the 12 volt battery into the vehicle. If that were the case, wouldn't it make sense to just power the monitor from the truck battery?
Thanks. No trips to dealer in one year? Incredible, as a past Ford owner. Even though your coolant bottle nearly fell off 😅 that’s minor workmanship issue. I’d sacrifice better power and cargo numbers of Ford I believe, if it doesn’t require 6 trips a year to the dealer. Three for recalls and three for warranty. Agree with your likes such as the size and looks etc.
I have the 2024 gas 3500 Denali. In nine months I’ve put 15k miles, and everything has been trouble free, with only oil changes and a software update being necessary. I bought this because I only tow 10K pounds occasionally, and was coming from a F150 3.5 Ecoboost. The difference in towing is huge, and I’m happy with the choice, and having not chosen the diesel. I wanted gas, but not with the problematic Active Fuel Management or Displacement on Demand that is present on every other GM V8 engine. I’ve had no issues with oil consumption. I only wish the column shift didn’t block part of the infotainment screen, and also wish that there was a numerical gear indicator. Also, it’s super annoying that these trucks don’t come with HD radio, and it’s pretty much not disclosed anywhere. Every car I’ve bought in the last 10 years came stock with HD radio, so it’s annoying not to. Also, the manual steering wheel adjustment feels cheap, and should be motorized in a truck that costs this much. That also would allow it to be memory set for different drivers.
My 24 has 30,000 on it and does not burn oil. My suggestion is change oil at 50% if you work your truck. I love mine and pulls great! 8,000 lbs frequently and hardly tell its behind you. Great combination on Chevrolet tradition. My only complaint is the winshield washer tank screw was loose causing a rattle that sounded like it was under the dash.
Same thing here with the push to start button. But for me it’s both turning on and off sometimes it doesn’t register. I have to just line it up and press down directly. But it doesn’t happen often.
Hey Justin Great video We have a 2019 Chevy Silverado High Country 6.2 gas 10 speed 1500 We had the door rattling and the dealer fixed it I’m still going to look at where you found the issue That strobing is and was a pain in the ass We bought the dog bone, which we didn’t know about, after spending a hundred hours trying to get it fixed The dealer tried 3 times They also told me to add a incandescent light to my trailer to get the camera to work What moron thought that is was a great idea 😮 The best mpg that I have gotten was 25 on a flat I-5 drive in Oregon
I would like for GM to display what gear the transmission is always in. My friend had a Ford with that feature I liked.(however, he has since traded it for a Chevrolet).
Love mine. Only complaints are minor.. Hood scoop should be functional Wish i could use task lighting on mirrors while driving ( back roads/off road) With cameras and computers, there should be a dash cam feature to record while driving
I have one mystery sound in the dash, or at least that is where it SOUNDS like it is coming from. Only happens from time to time, usually at low speed. Weirdness. Sort of sounds like a fan that is rubbing or has a dirty bearing or something.
Thank you for reporting on the oil. My truck had a loose screw on coolant resevoir and it was driving me crazy...took me a while to pin point it there. Others have mentioned the same, so apparently it gets loose easily.
Great video but I have to disagree agree on the Allison 10 speed transmission. They have a known issue with the valve body. My 2024 Sierra Denali 3500 with 28,000 miles has been at the dealer for 3 months waiting for the replacement valve body. Apparently they are failing so frequently the part manufacturer has fallen way behind.
That’s not good. I just got my Denali 3500 and only have 1000 miles on it. Were you going any towing with the vehicle? Is yours gas or diesel? Not sure if that makes a difference or not.
It’s a diesel and I do tow a mid-size fifth wheel with it (gross weight of the trailer is 15.5k - not at all close to the truck’s rating). Now that the gasser has the same Allison 10 speed, I doubt there is any difference between gas and diesel.
I have owned all 3 diesel brands (bought new and used). I don't need a diesel but I like them. However, I have been considering the gas version of this truck. I can buy a 1/2 ton gas. But why when the 3/4 ton is not much more. Anyway, I love your truck and am considering the double cab in the same variation.
We have a 2020 3500 . We bought it brand new and ever 500 miles we are adding a quart . GM says it is acceptable to burn a quart every 1500 miles!!! We have 61000 on it now and still burns oil like crazy!
Great video! 👍🏻 - are you hearing pretty much the same solid praise for the 2024 Trail Bosses as well? Just thought to ask becuz you seem well informed, thanks 🙂
Thank you. Yes, I like the 2500/3500 HD with Trail Boss package. It's a sharp truck for sure. GMC and Chevy do their packages differently with options, so just depends on what you're looking for there if it makes a difference for you. But, I really think they have a strong offering right now in the HD space.
Thank you for the comment! I hear you on all the chatter with the transmission issues. Sometimes I wonder if it is more hyped up online with social media and influencers seeking views compared to reality? Mine has been flawless btw. As far as the Allison branding...my understanding is GM collaborated with Allison on the transmission and the brand is more or less their stamp of approval on it for a lack of better explanation. I've really enjoyed the transmission so far, but time will tell how it performs in the long haul. I've had a few with the Duramax comment on trans issues in a couple videos, but can't recall anyone commenting with the gasser/L8T yet.
Thank you! I really like the color. When I first got it, I did a super thorough washing to get anything off the clearcoat and then I did a ceramic coat (last coat brand). There are a lot of good options out there. Then I just use a pH neutral soap for ceramic coated vehicles and come back and do a light ceramic coat every few months. It seems to hold the shine very nicely.
I have a 2022 2500 HD, two wheel drive, LT. I got a rattle in the passenger door. Turning up the radio, you would not hear it. Radio off, and it was a low, annoying rattle. I finally took the inside door panel off, down to the metal. Drove the truck and it was still there. I shook, beat, hit, on everything in that door. Nothing. Finally, after a week of driving the truck like this, I put the panel back on. On the trip to my Montana cabin, I told the wife, when I get to the cabin, that door panel was coming back off. I was going to find that rattle. I let the wife drive on the trip for a while, so I could listen, around the door, to see where the rattle was, and it was toward the mirror area. Well, on the trip, I had to fold the mirrors in, at a hotel. The next morning, I folded them back out. NO MORE RATTLE, as of today, and that was last summer I did this. I don't know if it moved a cable in the mirror or if the mirror was not in it's locked position properly, but the rattle has not returned. It was like having a new truck.
Great truck. Love the color. What is the “official” color gray to pick off the color chart? Is there leather as an option or what’s your thought on that? Does it have heated seats and steering wheel in the STE trim? I’m impressed with your build. I currently have a platinum f150 with a ton of stuff. I won’t miss it.
Thank you. It is sterling metallic. No leather on SLE, but leather is standard on SLT and higher. I actually like the cloth on SLE and it does have heated seats and steering wheel, but those were part of a package. Here is the build video if curious on the full details: th-cam.com/video/t7rDx0RlJ1M/w-d-xo.html
Thanks! I’m looking for a 24 now. I like your color so will search that specific color. Thanks for the help. I don’t mind cloth at all. But the wife likes leather and all the extras I have now but the cost becomes insane real fast. Thanks for the link. Just starting to look. I’m old school and like the chrome of yours. Matches my Harley :).
What tonneau cover did you buy? Also watched the link you sent of your build. Thank you. Great help. I agree 100% on your build. Question on you options; you mentioned some are in a package? Not sure what you mean. As listed on the sticker as you built it. How would one find the packages they are in? I want to build and purchase the exact truck. Maybe find one. Prob not going to be easy. I’m an engineer. So I appreciate your clarity and thoughts!
@@highpeaks6542 Here is the tonneau cover: th-cam.com/video/kNJT7NEOq1k/w-d-xo.html On the options, one example is the SLE Convenience package that includes things like dual zone cliam, heated seats, and various other niceties. If you go onto the GMC site and select build it'll walk you through the choices there. It takes some time and trial/error to get a grasp for all the options and packages, but once you settle on a configuration a dealer can take that build and get it official for you.
I just traded a 22 ram 6.7 ,great truck but heard so many horror stories about the 6.7 and chrysler going down the tubs . I got a long bed like yours . Ram seats better,2 12 volt plugs ,gmc none, under rear seat storage ram. The gmc drives nicer . My ram ave mpg was 18.5 but fuel is always 80 cents higher .
Thank you for the comment! My Pinnacle 5th wheel was a bit too heavy on the pin/tongue weight @ 4,400 lbs vs the GMC 3/4 ton @ 3,300 lbs payload. But, based on my towing with the GMC 3/4 ton with L8T gasser over last year, I'd likely enjoy the towing experience up to about 13K with weekend warrior outings before I'd be looking at a 1 ton diesel. HD gas trucks have come a long way for sure, but when going heavy nothing beats a diesel. Here's a couple towing videos featuring my L8T gasser: th-cam.com/video/wSBg0DW0eFg/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/qVVJkoaVkK0/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the comment and idea. I've heard a lot of discussion about that, specifically that they come completely dry from build leading to a lot of chatter. I didn't find that case on mine. Seemed like they were greased...not in excess or to the brim, so I did add to them. I plan to check mine once a year and add grease as needed. I want to be careful not to overdo it and pop a seal out. I found using the lock n lube fitting made it fairly easy to reach all 9x of them without jacking or removing anything.
Indeed. Basically all the trims that have previous interior still get the 12V such as W/T, Custom, and Pro. Hoping they'll add it back into the refreshed trucks.
Do you find the power steering to be noisy? I bought a 24 2500 Custom 4x4 and I first noticed it as soon as I got it home when it was new. Checked the level and it was below the empty line. And had shaving in the fluid. Took it back to dealer and they replaced the pump but was still noisy. Took it to a different dealer for the first oil change and they also saw shaving in the power steering fluid. They flushed and purged it but still noisy. Will take it into a different dealer soon.
Yeah, now that you mention it...a little initially on the power steering. And the transmission has a slight whine once in a while, but gotten used to the normal sounds I guess. And the Borla exhaust covers a lot of it :) Thank you for the comment.
I can't read my 2019 1500 Z71 gear position on the dashboard cuzz it is in red and not bright. You are not alone. While my wife's 2018 Equinox is bright white and easy to read. Maddening!
Are you regretting not getting leather seats because of your previous ram? Or do you not mind the change with cloth. Or do you feel any change at all with the comfort in the interior?
No regrets yet. I actually really like the cloth seats. The material GM used has a nice black "denim" insert and they look brand new even after a year of use. Some have complained about comfort on the front seats, but I don't mind them. They have adjustable lumber and some decent bolstering on the sides. Even after all day trips I am perfectly content with them.
Thank you for the comment. It is the BedRug: amzn.to/3ABXACX I really like it. Have used it in last few trucks and much nice on the knees. Also provides just the right amount of traction for hauling stuff.
Thank you for the comment. With my driving habits 13mpg overall seems to be about average for me. Here is a more in-depth discussion: th-cam.com/video/2h1l5FIDPkM/w-d-xo.html
I have 2019 2500 wt Silverado 140,000 miles. I do you use this truck to tow and work. Have replaced brakes and rotors numerous times have replaced the dipstick for the oil the steering column. The starter three times. All of the front end parts. The entire rear end. And the Cadillac converters two times. Also the O2 sensors . I’ve considered switching to Ford, but everyone says that they’re in the shop more. This is my fourth Chevy and kinda at odds with what to do from here. I couldn’t imagine a truck being in the shop more than the current truck. Any thoughts?
Thank you for the comment. If I'm not mistake I think 2019 was last year for the 6.0L V8. I think with the L8T whether initial 6sp trans or current 10sp seems to be a very robust gas engine and platform overall. I am lower mileage of course, but a lot of commenters have chimed in with well over 100K mi and it seems like the L8T is delivering so far. But, I guess only time will tell.
Mine only showes the top locked out gear. Not the actual gear. Meaning if mine says 8. Doesn't mean I am in 8. Means I can't go higher than 8. Locked out at 8.
I wish it did. I'd be perfectly content with it only in L. Oddly GM does it differently than the others, so the L is the highest locked out gear. RAM does it where it'll show a display like 4/6 or 1/2 or 3/4 in realtime on the manual/lockout mode.
@@AdventureRocks When I put my gear selector to L. I get the numbers of the gears 1 thru 10 that show up on my dash on the right lower corner. I have a 2024 Silverado 3500 HD LTZ. When in low I use the +/- on the shifter handle to shift thru the gears and I can see what gear I am in.
Don't get a diesel you will pry your eyes out the transmission has recalls and they cannot get the parts to fix. The tailgate does not want to stay closed because they say the inside switch shorting out because of the moisture getting into the tailgate mechanism. I love my Denali diesel but we're having all kinds of problems at GM is not working with us to fix
The 6.6 gas is a good work engine tharmt turns low rpm when towing. I just wish they gave a 4.10 option gearing. I have a 24 3500 crew cab 8ft bed. I have a gooseneck trailer i tow a few times a year. I have been gross out to over 25000lbs a few times. The truck handles the weight just fine. Just would be nice to have 4.10 on the hills
So those that are watching this and own ether a Chev refresh interior dash or the GM similar to this or instead what might be referred to as the "premium" refresh dash that only the GM brand trucks such as the AT4, Denali, Denali ultimate have, what are your thoughts. By eye the upscale dash comes off as a fancier system with the vents where they are positioned, the center console design and where they place the row of switches etc on the center dash ... brake controller on the console rather than the dash and so forth. The one complaint I have heard is that the gear shift lever gets in the way of the infotainment center since its set lower in the dash, but there may be other pluses aside from the visual as well.
on the upper trims the screen sits lower so the column shifter does block the screen....the interior is a little nicer and repositioned a bit different....tbh it wouldnt bother me much and I almost bought an AT4 or Denali.....SLT popped up though with a far better deal so I purchased this one instead.... you would have to go sit or drive in one to see what you think....but yeah it does partially block left side of info center where shortcut buttons are I kind of lean towards the right side anyway while driving so it probably wouldn't be an issue
@@kirkdunn1379 I never did get around to test driving one or for that matter barely sat in one to see what it seemed like compared to the regular refresh dash you also have in your SLT. Exterior wise I like some looks and shapes of the Chev, while other items better on the GMC. As crazy as this sounds I decided on the Chev because I could still get it in a color that I wanted that they were also making in 2024 for the Denali but no longer do for 2025. I had the chev dealer search for a 2024 with options I was after and he came up empty handed as higher optioned gas engine HD trucks are not nearly as common it seems around here than the duramax. Basically the the attitude for years around here has been either you drive a diesel and your "somebody" or you are nobody and drive a gas truck. I'm ok with being a nobody !. Of course the high country comes with painted bumpers and am not hot on them but it is what it is, I plan on spending even more to have the paint protection film put on the bumpers and so forth as rocks are a part of life up here with gravel roads everywhere and gravel tracking onto the paved roads, that and also substantial mudflaps.
Fantastic review buddy! I appreciate the time you took to post this. I’m looking for a truck right now, but torn between a 1500 diesel or 2500 HD…any thoughts?
Thank you for the comment! I just posted an MPG comparison on the 1/2 ton LZ0 diesel: th-cam.com/video/1HzdIiPA3bY/w-d-xo.html GM got so many things right with the LZ0 that I can't fault it like I could with Ford or RAM's version (no longer available). But, that being said for me personally, here's what would sway me: I'd buy the GM 1/2 ton truck with LZ0 diesel if I was infrequently towing under 6K lbs or something very aerodynamic like a boat and I had a lengthy daily commute of 100 miles round trip. Goal: Efficiency/Range & potentially $$ at the pump I'd buy the GM 3/4 ton truck with L8T gas if I was towing a 6K+ RV and wanted to have a very "planted" and "secure" feeling while driving while having LOTS of future capabilities in terms of larger RVs/trailers or just general hauling. Goal: Stability/security while towing & future capabilities Hope this helps!
Thank you for the comment!
I basically have the same truck, I’ve had it for 11 months now and have 34,000 miles on it already and it hasn’t burned a drop of oil.
damn, 34k in 11 months....thats some driving
That's great news, thank you.
Same for my 2500 l8t not a drop burned
Just wait lol overpriced garbage is for fools
34,000 11 months, gas engine, hope your lookin for a new truck!!!
Bought a ZR2 HD Gasser because of your channel. Love it! Been my favorite truck I’ve ever had so far and looking forward to many years with it.
I’m strongly considering that exact truck for my next one! (Zr2 HD gas)
The ZR2 is such good looking truck, love that package.

@@AdventureRocksHad a 2018 Colorado ZR2 gasser and it was very nice for a smaller pickup truck
Have u replace the transmission fluid and filter (don’t flush) yet and at what mileage? What about the spark plugs and other fluids? Thanks
@@jimmyneutron3055 Plugs and wires will get replaced every 100,000 miles. Transmission gets flushed every 50,000 miles. Front, rear, and center diferentals get new fluid every 50,000 also.
Very nice, thank you for the comment. I am with you, it's just a really enjoyable truck.
@@StephenMadden-b7d thank you sir! This is helpful and I assume 50-60ish u also flush the coolant too as that fluid break down as well over time
I was looking for the same little rattle as my truck is otherwise really quiet, low and behold, the same bolt was loose! Thank you sir!!!
How crazy is that! Thank you for the comment.

Very nice on the MPGs. Thank you for the comment.

BEST TRUCK EVER ...... added a catch can to help the valves.
Solid engine and trans. I gravitate towards the gauges and work dashboard . Can't imagine being on the highway and getting trouble with your dash. Will trust analog over digital for reliability. However, very few people had that problem.
I hear you. Great points. Thank you for the comment.
What are you referring to when you say a "Catch Can"?
@sam-68-56 super easy to remove anytime. I KEEP the oem part in my truck just in case.
I also own a 2024 Chevy 2500HD and I had the same exact rattle and it was the coolant bottle and I just tightened it down and I have not had the problem since. Awesome video...
Thank you for the comment. It was driving me nuts till I found it.

Great point. Thank you for the comment.
Very nice! Thank you for the comment.
Great points. Thank you for the comment. That's some solid mileage.
Thank you for the comment! I'm with you 100%.
Beautiful truck. Would purchase it as is. Thanks for the review!

My Xmas gift is a 2025 Chevy 2500 HD LTZ 6.6L L8T Gas Truck, love it. Tough to get over all the electronics from my 2013 2500HD 6.0, which my son now has.
Congrats! Merry christmas!
I hear you. Great points and input. Thank you for the comment.
I agree on the gear idea. I also wish our trucks showed the the actual numbers on the gages. Oil pressure, volts, temp etc
Great point. Thank you for the comment.
I hear you. I wouldn't mind the messaging seats, that sounds nice. Thank you for the comment.
You can lock the tailgate so that it doesn't open when receiver is on just saying
@@domfalson1561 Not going to pay for a feature I can’t use. We use our hitch so frequently, it rarely comes off. This is just one situation where the Ford step tailgate is superior.
b&w makes the correct hitch won’t hit it
@@jaytaylor7508 True, but I didn’t want a B&W hitch. My Shocker Hitch is far superior to any other traditional hitch I’ve ever used.

King George! You nailed the correct soundtrack for that truck! Hello from Amarillo TX!

Thanks for bringing up the rattle. Been looking for one that I thought was in door but turns out was the same bolt you showed !
Great points. Duramax is solid and I think one of the best sounding V8 diesels. 20mpg is very respectable. Thank you for the comment.
Your trailer lights flashing is the anti theft option you have turned on. My cargo trailer does that when anti theft is on. It won’t when turned off
Great review!
I hear you! Thank you for the comment. I am very optimistic about the longterm reliability. Time will tell, but I am really enjoying the truck.
Along with the current gear I would love to see numerical temp readings for oil temp coolant etc… I liked it on my ram power wagon I had
I actually like the previous gauge cluster better than the new one, like that on the Chevrolet Custom trim. This GMC is a beauty, and functional too!
Thank you for the comment. Great point on the numerical readings.
I have a 1500 Crew Cab and I’m thinking about replacing it with a 2500 gas just for that engine. No start stop, no turbo, no cylinder cut off. A normal iron block engine.
I hear you. I really am enjoying the truck. GM got so many things right.
Thank you for the comment.
The recalls should resolve your 7 pin concerns - i had them done and i have no issues with my 2023 TT. Also there is a toggle in the android auto setup that allows you to start up in android auto on the truck.
Thank you for the comment. I hope to get schedule for all that soon.
I had the same coolant bottle rattle, looked and looked then saw the bolt backed out 3/16” lol nice truck, I have same one in white
Thank you. Sharp looking truck and color.
I had the coolant bottle rattle too.. 24 custom L8T
I had the same issues with the rattle on the coolant overflow…same bolt it was loose and I just tightened it we will see what happens
Interesting. So far mine has stayed tight. Several others have mentioned same source oddly.
Great points. Thank you for the comment.
Hi Justin. Omgosh, I’ve had the same rattle (I believe) and also took the door off and found nothing. I can’t wait to see if that’s it. And I’m with you on the gear indicator. That should be included for sure. Thanks bro.

Thank you for the comment. Basically on the 2024 trims that feature the previous interior, they still get the 12V port, so GM Pro trim too. Just not on SLE and higher. It's crazy how they just aren't on the new refrshed trim. Hopefully they'll get added back in future.
that silver is beautiful and that wheel pkg is perfect for stock truck...GM has best overall HD imo though not perfect....almost nabbed one but was a lil to far away, really hard to find a gasser when I was shopping....was in between 24s being mostly sold and 25s still coming in
it is actually amazing the ratio of diesels to gas produced in this segment......
the multipro is a gamechanger...same as you didnt think much but then had it on half ton, went to a 3/4 without and missed having it so much it was a big reason I got another one, especially how tall these trucks are...tthey make a special hitch for it and you can lock the gate so it wont function if needed.
great truck should last you along time, obviously with the computers they are bound to have glitches....mine has been really good so far aside from the first week of ownership......

I had the same rattle issue. Coolant screw. Drove me crazy 😅
@@prisrubv9635 you must the 5th or 6th to mention the same source. How crazy.
Thank goodness, those rattles drive me nuts. Thank you for the comment.
Thank you for the comment! Hopefully all that Furrion stuff can be sorted out. Always something to troubleshoot, right?
Power your Furrion camera from the 12v from the trailer itself. Problem solved. Put in a switch to turn it off when not needed.
I appreciate your feedback. I assume you're suggesting a wire from the 12 volt battery into the vehicle. If that were the case, wouldn't it make sense to just power the monitor from the truck battery?
@@tommarsh5878 Just run it off the trailer battery.
That's why I like this channel. Like-minded people can share their experiences.
Thank you for the comment!
Great points. Thank you for the comment.
The only thing I wish was an option on the SLE is to opt for front buckets, purely for storage.
Yes, you can totally do that. The bench is standard, but you can add bucket seats if you build or if dealer selected bucket seats on the lot.
How many miles are you changing oil at? Also, what’s your experience pulling that load through mountains/steep grades?
Great tip, thank you for the comment.
@@blakel6242 50 percent no matter the amount of miles. Pulls great has good torque and holds power on long hill hauls

Same thing here with the push to start button. But for me it’s both turning on and off sometimes it doesn’t register. I have to just line it up and press down directly. But it doesn’t happen often.

We have a 2019 Chevy Silverado High Country 6.2 gas 10 speed 1500
We had the door rattling and the dealer fixed it
I’m still going to look at where you found the issue
That strobing is and was a pain in the ass
We bought the dog bone, which we didn’t know about, after spending a hundred hours trying to get it fixed

I don't tow as large of a pull behind as you but I do tow and I have not seen a drop of oil loss.
@@msteenwyk thanks for the info. I have the exact same truck. I’ll keep an eye on mine.
Sorry to hear about the troubles. I hope they can get it all fixed up for you. Thank you for the comment.
@@msteenwykI’ve read somewhere that the Gas and Diesel 10-speeds are different. They have the same code name but different part numbers.

But why when the 3/4 ton is not much more. Anyway, I love your truck and am considering the double cab in the same variation.
Thank you for the comment. I'm with you 100% on the 3/4...super versatile.
We have a 2020 3500 . We bought it brand new and ever 500 miles we are adding a quart . GM says it is acceptable to burn a quart every 1500 miles!!! We have 61000 on it now and still burns oil like crazy!

Thank you. Yes, I like the 2500/3500 HD with Trail Boss package. It's a sharp truck for sure. GMC and Chevy do their packages differently with options, so just depends on what you're looking for there if it makes a difference for you. But, I really think they have a strong offering right now in the HD space.
Good looking truck
Thank you for the comment.
Control valve in transmission alright?
They say that in 2019, they stopped using the real Allison transmission. There are many issues with these transmissions that are being reported.
Your truck looks awesome ! What do you use on it to keep it shining like that?
@@AdventureRocks Thanks for the info. Really looks great !
I hear you...the rattle can drive bonkers!
The tail lights flashing are because you have trailer security alarm turned on.
Here is the build video if curious on the full details:
th-cam.com/video/t7rDx0RlJ1M/w-d-xo.html
@@highpeaks6542 Here is the tonneau cover:

On the options, one example is the SLE Convenience package that includes things like dual zone cliam, heated seats, and various other niceties.
Great points. Always a give and take, right?
Have I missed a video where you compare towing capabilities? Did you ever pull your 5th Wheel camper with this truck?
Thank you for the comment! My Pinnacle 5th wheel was a bit too heavy on the pin/tongue weight @ 4,400 lbs vs the GMC 3/4 ton @ 3,300 lbs payload. But, based on my towing with the GMC 3/4 ton with L8T gasser over last year, I'd likely enjoy the towing experience up to about 13K with weekend warrior outings before I'd be looking at a 1 ton diesel. HD gas trucks have come a long way for sure, but when going heavy nothing beats a diesel. Here's a couple towing videos featuring my L8T gasser:

At what interval did you grease the front end fittings (tie rods, pivot arm etc.)? That would be a good video for you to post.
I went brand used (off lease) 2023 Chevy Silverado Z71 2500hd Duramax 6.6
Very nice :) Duramax is so powerful and strong. Love the Z71.
@AdventureRocks 8k lbs. of get out the way! 🤣
Video idea. Do the "gm all lights mod".
Thank you for the comment. And idea!
The pro wt trim has a 12v outlet.
Indeed. Basically all the trims that have previous interior still get the 12V such as W/T, Custom, and Pro. Hoping they'll add it back into the refreshed trucks.
they should put led lights all the way around!
I have a 2023 Denali and does not tell me if the tailgate is open.
Thank you for the comment.
I honestly can lease it but I’m not sure if it’s a good investment or not…
It is well on its way on becomming my favorite truck, yet.
If you got a center console you would have a 12 v outlet in the center console
My 2024 Sierra Denali 3500 with a center console does not have a 12 volt outlet.
not on the 24's
Only 24 with 12v outlet is the PRO
My 2018 6.0 wt3500 has never been back to the dealer either!!!! Im sticking with Chevy. My Ford's went back all the time.👎
Thank you for the comment. I always dread the fixing or repairing daily routine.
@@AdventureRocksdoes the SLE trim have seat height adjustment for passengers?
@@inspiringrex1198 No, just front to back sliding. It's at a pretty avg height that I'd say works for most though.
Is your truck bed the minimum size for 2500?
For the HD trucks there is 6'-9.75" and 8'. Mine is the former. It's a nice length, Goldilocks so to speak.
What bed mat is that?
Thank you for the comment. It is the BedRug:
amzn.to/3ABXACX
I really like it. Have used it in last few trucks and much nice on the knees. Also provides just the right amount of traction for hauling stuff.
What is 6.6 gas average fuel range unloaded on a single tank?
Thank you for the comment. With my driving habits 13mpg overall seems to be about average for me. Here is a more in-depth discussion:
th-cam.com/video/2h1l5FIDPkM/w-d-xo.html
Just for fun I'd like to try the Whipple Super Charger for this gas engine. They just released the software for the 10-spd.
Don't give me ideas :) Thank you for the comment.
If you drive it in gear selector L it doesn’t show the gear? Thought I saw somewhere where it would.
Thank you for the comment btw.
Just to clarify the gear indicator when put in low is right next to the letter L.
I hear you. Great points.
Except GM forcing all EVS to not have android auto or Apple carplay sadly. So hopefully gm gas vehicles will continue to offer these things
I hear you. Carplay and AA are the way to go it seems. Not perfect, but best experience overall perhaps.
Nice Truck !
@@MikeL-vu7jo thank you
That’s the best truck that. I been trying to buy SLE with a double bed cab for 4years they keep raising the prices plus interest like buying a home,
Does that truck have afm.
No AFM on L8T
The 6.6 gas is a good work engine tharmt turns low rpm when towing. I just wish they gave a 4.10 option gearing. I have a 24 3500 crew cab 8ft bed. I have a gooseneck trailer i tow a few times a year. I have been gross out to over 25000lbs a few times. The truck handles the weight just fine. Just would be nice to have 4.10 on the hills
I hear you. Thank you you for the comment.
I just can't get past the waxed frame. You can peel it off with your fingernail to bare metal. Up here in WNY any bare metal rusts very quickly.
I hear you. Pros and cons to wax vs e-coat. Gotta choose what is best for you.
The one complaint I have heard is that the gear shift lever gets in the way of the infotainment center since its set lower in the dash, but there may be other pluses aside from the visual as well.
on the upper trims the screen sits lower so the column shifter does block the screen....the interior is a little nicer and repositioned a bit different....tbh it wouldnt bother me much and I almost bought an AT4 or Denali.....SLT popped up though with a far better deal so I purchased this one instead....
you would have to go sit or drive in one to see what you think....but yeah it does partially block left side of info center where shortcut buttons are
I kind of lean towards the right side anyway while driving so it probably wouldn't be an issue
Of course the high country comes with painted bumpers and am not hot on them but it is what it is, I plan on spending even more to have the paint protection film put on the bumpers and so forth as rocks are a part of life up here with gravel roads everywhere and gravel tracking onto the paved roads, that and also substantial mudflaps.
..
Fantastic review buddy! I appreciate the time you took to post this. I’m looking for a truck right now, but torn between a 1500 diesel or 2500 HD…any thoughts?
Thank you for the comment! I just posted an MPG comparison on the 1/2 ton LZ0 diesel:
th-cam.com/video/1HzdIiPA3bY/w-d-xo.html
GM got so many things right with the LZ0 that I can't fault it like I could with Ford or RAM's version (no longer available). But, that being said for me personally, here's what would sway me:
I'd buy the GM 1/2 ton truck with LZ0 diesel if I was infrequently towing under 6K lbs or something very aerodynamic like a boat and I had a lengthy daily commute of 100 miles round trip. Goal: Efficiency/Range & potentially $$ at the pump
I'd buy the GM 3/4 ton truck with L8T gas if I was towing a 6K+ RV and wanted to have a very "planted" and "secure" feeling while driving while having LOTS of future capabilities in terms of larger RVs/trailers or just general hauling. Goal: Stability/security while towing & future capabilities
Hope this helps!
Allison does make you're transmission, I retired from Allison.
Thank you for putting the nay-sayers to rest :) I am enjoying the transmission.
