Glad I could help. Do double check that your nozzle is not clogged, and the PTFE tube has not become really deformed on the end either. Those too can lead to filament extrusion issues.
Thank you for your video! Just got a Genius printer for the fam for Xmas and trying to make our first print, but the filament isn't feeding. Your video is a straight forward explanation on how to adjust the filament feeder tension.
I have a Sidewinder X1 and there's a real fine line between the gear not grabbing the filament and it being too tight and it all binding up and the gear stopping from moving around..
Thanks for the quick, informative video! Some calibration guides say to start with this, so but it sounds like I'll move on to the next steps. Your video made it really easy to see HOW to actually adjust the tension, perfect for a beginner!
Did you check the temps are right for the material, nozzle isn't clogged, the PTFE/heat-break are not clogged, extruder gear isn't full of crap, the end of the filament isn't binding on something???
@@mitchelsumrall1307 clicking noise if you discarded belt tension i'd check that the screws aren't too tight, i read that could be a culprit. Then make sure there isn't a clog. then make sure both gears are in good condition, then make sure the stepper motor is working properly, then i dont know.
I think what happened is its way too lose and not biting the filament. To compensate they have the gear spinning way faster then it needs too in both feed and unfeed so they get constant pressure not correct pressure thru the nozzle. I find mine squeeks when it retracts because it switches directions way too fast and slipping. If its possible lowering the exceleration of your extruder should stop the squeeking when feeding to retraction. This is completely wrong and it should bite more, however they tuned it really well from factory and i am not sure I want adjust the flow and tension to fix the noises. The correct fix would be to adjust tension and fix the gear speed likely lower the exceleration a bit
Thanks for the tip..... Good info as always... I have two questions though... 1) when you were doing this did you have the nozzle out. 2) everyone always talks about how quiet the X1 is... And for most travel my X1 is very quiet however on the infill and retraction it seems to be quite loud is this normal?.... Or could it be to an over tightened idler arm?
Unless otherwise noted, nozzle in. Uh if you think this is loud I will do a video in the future with my Ultimaker and Thingomatic. It will make your ears bleed...
Hi Calvin. That's a good tip, backing the tension all the way off and then getting it back to "just right". Thanks for sharing! 👍
Thanks Brian! I figure starting at "0" and working your way up is the best way to go!
Thanks a lot I´ve been strugling with this filament not extruding for days, and this might be it

Thanks, it is one of the few "out of box" things I say is worth doing as it just takes a minute and can save a lot of headaches down the line.
Thanks, awesome video! Very helpful
Well done bro
Thanks for doing that video, nice explanation.
Thank you so much!
What happens when you do this and it still won't grab it at all . Like it makes clicking noise and can't grab it to pull it in .

@@MakeItWithCalvin oh yea i have
Hmmm, at that point I am not too sure. Maybe try feeding filament without the nozzle in, just in case there is a blockage in the PTFE?
@@MakeItWithCalvin man, you are crazy helpful for owners of this printer

Thank for tips it help me , but istill have proplem that the big gear isnt rotating and it make very noise sound ,do you know how to fix it
Hey Calvin mine has this annoying clicking when feeding filament. I have tried to find out what is causing it and can't figure it out. Any ideas?
Same, did you find the cause?
