It's not a shield. It's a coil or solenoid valve that is then pulse width modulated for adjustment of pressure. The IPR is a pulse-width modulated valve operating at 400 Hz. The pulse width is modulated from a duty cycle of 8 to 50% to control injection control pressure from 3.4-20.7 MPa (500-3000 psi). The IPR is mounted in the high pressure pump and achieves injection control pressure regulation by discharging excess oil through a shuttle valve into the front cover and back to sump.

I bought a 2001 F350 a few months back. The gentleman who sold it to me said it didn’t leak oil but it needed new injectors. He was correct as I found lots of oil in the fuel filter. It also stalled at stop signs and at lights randomly while consuming massive amounts of oil due to a bad o-ring on the #7 injector. Lots of oil mixing with the fuel.
So I resealed all the injectors with new o-rings, new wiring harness for the injectors and glow plugs, new valve cover gasket, cleaned out the fuel bowl and installed new fuel filter and changed the oil. Took 4 cranking sessions to get it started and when it started it ran like shit until a few minutes later the idle would kind of even out. Well lo and behold, I look in the valley of the engine and the spacer to the IPR valve is just laying there in a small pool of oil. Tinnerman nut nowhere to be found. I’ve got one on the way and hope that after reinstalling the spacer and tin nut I will have the same results as you guys did. Wish me luck

Great troubleshooting video! I am interested in the Tech Pro app for my 1999 Ford F250 7.3 engine. I clicked on the OBD2 link but when I follow the link, it says "no longer available". Do you have another recommendation for an OBD connect and app for a 7.3 diesel engine?

Hey Guys, Thanks for the video! My Dad and I have been re-habbing a 95 Powerstroke 7.3. We have run into some intermittent issues (no start, stalling, etc). We narrowed the issue down to a bad wiring harness. Upon wiggling wires on bank 2 side, we could duplicate the issue, by means of having the engine shut off. So, we replace the harness with a brand new one. After, running the truck for a full day we are feeling VICTORIOUS and cocky. no more than 10 minutes from HQ, the thing gradually loses power as we coast to the side of the road. Again, we are in that no start state. Sadly, upon running ForeScan, we discover all of the same codes from before the harness replacement. 5-6 codes, mostly related to a short spanning several cylinders on the Bank 2 side. My Pops seems to be convinced our problem is in the IPR, but why would we be getting these same codes? Also, I'll add that our ForeScan seemingly doesn't have the full spectrum of functionality, I'm guessing is due to his PCM being re-programmed. The truck was built in Nov. 94. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Take care!
