- How to set up Torque Pro and ForScan using a cheap Bluetooth OBD2 reader on your 7.3 and 6.0 Ford Powerstroke Diesel Trucks. I've had so many questions about how to get data from the 7.3 and 6.0 Ford Powerstroke Diesel engines I decided to make a video covering the basics, plus how to get those nifty dashboard views on your phone or tablet.

My uncle bought his 7.3 brand new in 2002. He’s had it ever since and it’s been babied and very well taken care of. He is selling it to upgrade to a fancy new one and I couldn’t be happier that he said he’d make sure I get to buy it off him. This thing is pristine! Only 75k miles, lariat trim, crew cab, and already leveled with 35’s! It’ll be mine here in a couple months and I am so stoked!
Man, that's a great deal right there. I can only hope your uncle's new one lasts as long as that old 7.3
@@ProjectTimeGarage Dumb IT question alert: I don't have a data package with my cellular phone provider, only talk and text on my Android device, can I download and run Torque or Forscan strictly off my homes wifi in my driveway to scan engine issues on my 02 Nissan Frontier? Thks.
@@MasterArmedforces I realize this is old, but yes, this would work.
Awesome! Another person in the club!! Glad to have ya. You say it had a leveling kit.. I also did one but it sent the front of the truck higher than the back(opposite rake). Anyways, didn’t like it, called SD springs and they sent me the heaviest dutiest springs I could get. Now the truck looks great and hawls even better. Just thought I’d share
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and I can tell you that this video is going to help so many people in need of necessary information about this application there's no other video that goes into detail like this one believe me I have checked and been waiting for this one you have done a good deed for the powerstroke community keep up the great videos keep them coming thanks again
Thanks, hopefully it helps many many people. That was the goal.
Can i keep obd plug in whole time when my vehicle not in use? Will it drain battery or make any effect?
Thank you brother I'm an old dog and I appreciate people like you more than you know I've been in the field for a long time but I have been disabled for 10 years. Maybe I can get my truck running again correct way now. It was always so expensive and unobtainable for me to use a diesel scanner it was just so expensive so thank you for helping me catch up do the new world and may God bless you again
Thanks my friend. It's like anything else, once you get involved in it things start to get easier.
It’s about time!!! A video for the folks out there that may be rocket sicientsis by day but 7.3 Lover. Really really appreciate you making your videos!!
Thanks bud!
Thanks for taking the time to produce an entry level setup to monitor our money machines. I have a 2001 E450 7.3 and a 2016 F350 6.7 very helpful! Thank you!
Glad to help
This is awesome thank you so much! This is like 100+ hours of research distilled into a single hour.
Glad to help!
Been fallowing your videos for years, Just got two new to me diesel trucks. An 89 f350 IDI +T 4x4 flatbed dually and a 95 f250 7.3 4x4 with 199k on it. Went to the Amazon link and bought the Bluetooth dongle. Thanks for the videos
Great score on those trucks. That old IDI is a tank.
@@ProjectTimeGarage
Thank you, got both trucks for $7500 total. Plus a zf5 to swap in the 89. Couldn't pass them up
Did the 95 connect and function on the dongle
FORScan is 7 bucks for the main but so worth it! I’ve downloaded it from your other videos it was invaluable to figuring out my excursion with a 7.3! Very nice video going through gauges and whatnot!
Yep, very worth the small investment!
@@ProjectTimeGarage man I installed a new hpop, icp, ipr and the truck ran great but now it surges at idle 🤦🏻♂️also icp on FORScan saying 3000 psi at idle goes to 1700-2800 when driving …
@@Lonewolf23-26 When you're full throttle, what is the IPR Pressure, and what is the IPR %?
@@Lonewolf23-26 Basically, if the ICP is calling for 65% duty cycle and the IPR Pressure is that low, then you may have another failing HPOP.
@@ProjectTimeGarage man I hope not, ill take it for a spin and see what each are. when cranking ipr % goes above 15. Full throttle if i remember right my ICP was 2400 psi or so, ipr % locked at 4.69.
This app helped me figure out my trucks poor running condition
Glad it helped!
This is a great introduction, I'm also a tech guy by trade and just popped my diesel cherry with a high miles '02 F-250 7.3. It runs great so luckily I don't have to diagnose anything engine/drivetrain right now, but I'm sure in the future I'll need to and these tools will be indispensable. In the mean time I can set up cool gauges on the Android head unit I'm putting in!
Cool. Glad to meet a few fellow techno-nerds who are also gearheads.
You do a great job explaining and videoing you post.
Thanks!
Thank you for doing this
Hope it helps!!
Thank you for this video you haven’t saved me a few hundred dollars already
Great to hear!
Dude!!!!!! Nailed it!!!!! Thanks!!!! Big story behind my 06 6.0 short bed dually 4x4 lariat and it means the world to me

Sweet, thanks!!!
Just catching up on all your videos. You are the best thank you!!
Thanks Wyatt!
Great video. I would add that OBD2 extension cables are available so your scanner isn't hanging down into the foot well. After kicking my scanners a few times I got a 90 degree cable that I ran behind stuff to the glove box where my scanner dongle is out of the way but easy to get to. Different lengths and orientations cables can be had inexpensively...
I really need to order a 90degree cable. Off to Amazon!!
@@ProjectTimeGarage Be sure to check the orientation of your OBD2 port. Some are backwards to others. You can get cables that go left or right, depending on your port (look at pictures, all that). They'll still work but you'll have to loop the cable 180 degrees.
Really appreciate that video, I was curious about the apps you used and that answer all my questions.
Glad to hear it!
Great video you saved me tons of time

Agreed. Nice and cheap!
Thank you for doing this . I really appreciate
No problem 😊
I would strongly advice getting (FORscan) I got my OBD2 reader and in a rough 30mins found the problem with my truck. for me it was a $37 investment over a $2000+ Scan pc/Program Thank You #ProjectTimeGarage!
You are 100% right. It's a tiny investment compared to what the "parts cannon" can cost to fix these things. Thanks for watching!!
Excellent video, very informative thanks
Very welcome
Thank you for the amazing video on both apps.
No problem!
You're testing my patients!! I can tell your information is invaluable, I just wish you made a separate video for Torque and another for Forscan. Or at least marked the video for each. I'm waiting patiently for forscan, but naturally you're doing Torque first. I'm going nuts!! I need Forscan. Non the less, thanks for your work.
Yeah, I understand, but I really made the video to show how to get them installed and talking to the truck since I've had so many questions in the past. No worries, I will make a more in-depth video on each of them, though.

Thank you for creating this video. The information/knowledge you have passed on is extremely helpful. I was successful installing and running Torquepro, great! FORscan not so fortunate. Have downloaded the correct file but when I attempt an initiation, by selecting FORscan icon, I receive this error "Unable to initialize application". I have been to FS forums, there are posts concerning this error but no solution?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy your channel. Thank you.
Thanks, I've actually ran into that same error message on other apps not related to ForScan. Usually it's an issue on the device itself. Most likely the version of Android.
I keep getting unable to initialize application on forscan lite. Pixel 6 pro. Any idea?
Thanks,Jim
i'm having the exact same problem samsung Galaxy A03
No idea. It seems every device is different in how it handles side-loaded applications.
🤣 that's the nickname I've always used for forscan lol
lol, I say it that way every time.
Great info!
Glad it was helpful!
Great job

Thanks.
Looks like the Bluetooth dongle isn't available anymore did they stop making it
I've tried to find another one with no luck.
Thanks!
Thanks man!!!
Is there another obd bluetooth you reccomend? The one you listed is unavailable.
Man, I've bought about 5 now from Amazon and I cannot seem to find one that works like that one. I'll for sure update you guys if I find one that does work.

Hello. Thanks for making so many informational videos. They really help. The link you put for the obd2 reader is currently unavailable and is android only. I already bought one and it didn’t pair to FORScan. Is there possibly a way you can put a link in here for a currently available port for iOS. Thanks!
So far, I've bought about 7 other OBD2 readers and none of them work. I'm still looking, so stay tuned and I'll let everyone know when I've found another.
Thank you for this awesome video. I can’t find the obd2 bluetooth diagnostic interface for sale. Do you have suggestions on which other one to get?
I don't have any experience first hand, but any ELM327 compatible interface should work.
Dear brother kindly guide that how to see iac valve position in torque pro app for Honda city idsi 2006?
No idea
I can't find the BAFX Brand OBD2 Bluetooth or WiFi interface anywhere. Do you have another brand you recommend?
No I've tried a bunch of others and none of them work.
What can FORScan be used for with my 2006 F350 King Ranch 6.0l diesel?
An absolute TON. Check out their website, it's an awesome app for anything Ford.

I have looked on FORScan website and google searched but cannot find anything helpful to use FORScan on my 2006 F350 6.0l diesel.
Great video. Thank you. The plug in bafx obdII reader you recommended is unavailable on Amazon and every other place I found. Can you tell me where to buy it? If not do you have a second choice?
If I ever find another model that works, I'll update everyone. So far, nothing....
I had a quick question for you and everyone else who would chime in....
The OBDII you specified on your link thru Amazon. Show unavailable or not sold anymore...
Is there another OBDII you would recommend or use?
Basically any ELM327 compatible adapter will work fine.
Looks like they no longer offer it on Amazon or their website.
Yeah, I've been trying to find a suitable replacement - nothing yet.
Need a new amazon link
Your videos are excellent I tried finding the OBD2 reader and the link says it's no longer available any suggestions I have a 2000 F250 7.3 powerstroke I've already downloaded Torque Pro and forscan I need to find an OBD2 Wireless reader that's not too expensive
Man, I wish I had better news but I've bought a BUNCH of other versions and none of them have worked at all on the diesel stuff. Still looking though.
Can you reset the engine light with this? Please let me know. Have a question. My engine light is blinking real slow. Can you help me with that? Give me some ideas
Yes, it will reset the CEL. It will also tell you which component is failing, causing the CEL to be set.
Which app do you suggest for 2006 f250 superduty 6.0 can either of them monitor high pressure oil psi?
Forscan Lite would be my choice.
Forwcan is a .22 not .16 now and it wont run on my samsung. Any advice?
At the time of making this video it was .16 - a LOT of time has gone by now. Not sure about your specific device, but my current tablet is a Samsung with current Android and it's working on that one.
i downloaded the one for android play store addition.. says "unable to initialize application" after opening the forscan app. any ideas?
Same
Mine too why
Me3 I can't download it
I downloaded the demo on my Samsung android and it did not say unable to initialize application what's the difference?
@@murphyliving6640 do you have the dongle connected to the vehicle?
Is there a way to change the gauge look in Forscan to get a different look like you can do in TorquePro?
I've never seen any skins or themes for Forscan before. Only Torque Pro.
I’ve got a 6.0. Currently use Torque on a Fire tablet. Does FORScan read FICM voltages? Is that in something other than the PCM?
Yes, FORScan will read pretty much everything on these trucks, including both FICM voltages.
What's the thing next to the obd2 port? I bought a f350 recently and I have no idea. Mines black with the same moving thing like I said I have no idea for my v10
Trailer brake controller.
Ok, i was all set to buy the independent version of the Forscan , but the odb BT connector is the problem now..Android . Has anyone found one that's compatible ?
Man, I've ordered a bunch of them from Amazon so far. None of them work. I'm trying to find one that does. Stay tuned
Can they be used if you have a Hydra Tuner installed?
Yes they sure can
Does it matter or do you recommend an obd adapter the one in description is no longer available. Bluetooth vs wifi
I've tried to find another one with no luck.
What screen/head unit was that in the video for while driving monitoring? Just an android?
Yeah, just a cheap Galaxy Tab.
The bluetooth scan tool is unavailable are the other brands still compatible
I've tried a few others and none of them work.
have you ever used torque pro on a touch screen radio?
I have. It was actually pretty cool.
Ive had my 6.0 for 12 years and it just rolled over to 160K. Im replacing the injectors, oil cooler, IPR, ICP, and what ever else I find that may need it. I figure its time to start monitoring it. Im using torque pro and forescan on my indash hopefully.@@ProjectTimeGarage
What is the PID for HPOP for a 7.3? I can’t find it on my forscan app? It is a 2003
It's called ICP Injection Control Pressure.
My 2000 7.3 won’t pass smog n no check engine light on ?
When I put a scanner on it, it shuts off?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Mine does that too with some of the OBD2 readers. The BAFX one is the only one I've found that works 100%
@@ProjectTimeGarage Are you referring to the WiFi Bluetooth ones? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Is there another obd2 other then what is linked in the description? There is none in stock
Thanks for letting me know. Give this one a try. amzn.to/3FeLM8y
Does anyone know which PID you select for oil pressure in FORSan lite for the high speed oil pump on a 6.0?
FORScan should automatically have the HPOP PID in it for the 6.0. I checked with mine and it works right out of the box.
Is there a different obd2 interface that you know will work with the for scan app? The one that you are using is no longer available. I need to do a buzz test on my 7.3
I think any ELM327 compatible interface will work just fine.
My vans not following the standard, my vehicle speed is either zero or 258mph as soon as the wheels turn. My rpm is 1/4 of real. Turbo pressure goes up in 16lbs steps....
Vans a citroen..... Even code reading is a nightmare, but all codes clear every ignition cycle so fix the fault and light goes out.
Wow, that's really really strange. Never ran across that behavior at all.
So dumb question but will any Bluetooth obd2 port with with theses apps? I got a 97 7.3 that I have a check engine light on for and kinda runs rough so trying to figure out what’s going on with it
Most of the ELM327 OBD2 adapters *should* work, but I've found more that a few that don't. Amazon is out of the one I recommend, so I'm trying to find one that works.
What did you do when the code came up for high low side I have the exact same thing
Honestly, nothing.

Check this thread: forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23412
Downloaded FORScan on android, I get copy of the application not licensed. Unable to access from phone.
Did you use the APK or from the store?
So to download Torque Pro onto my laptop Ill need an Android Emulator Platform? Which is safe?
The official Android Studio Emulator is probably the best known, plus it's directly from Android.
developer.android.com/studio/run/emulator
On my phone it says unable to initialize forscan application
Seems some phones don't like side-loaded applications.
Am I able to adjust the fuel pressure on my 2006 6.0 on the forscan without needing to get bigger injectors because people love riding on my tail thro town in Aiken sc
No, I don't believe ForScan will let you change pressure. The "blue spring" kit will increase pressure, but without oversized injectors, or a tune, you probably won't be able to increase fuel.
@@ProjectTimeGarage yea I got the blue spring the truck is still pretty stock except for exhaust it has a 5inch straight pipe on it still has the egr and still has the stock air intake
Will any obd2 readers work
The one on your link said for android only?

@@ProjectTimeGarageNot sure if you or TH-cam keep deleting my comment about a OBD2 connector that actually works
What I don't see and can't find is oil pressure. Got oil temp, and HPOP-- Torque lite
Yep, Oil Pressure and Engine Coolant Temp are not reported to the ECU. The temp sender and oil pressure sending units go directly to the gauges on the dash. The truck uses oil temp to gauge how warm/cold it is.
Also, there's no compelling reason to worry about oil pressure in a HEUI injection system. If the low pressure pump fails, it will stop sending oil to the HPOP and the truck will die immediately. Basically, no oil pressure, no start/run.
F-ing AWESOME brother what's your LTC address need to send ya $10 bucks worth. THANK YOU
