    I only recently started watching your channel with consistency. And frankly, I’ve got a built-in skepticism when it comes to anything on TH-cam that’s sponsored. But I’m setting aside that knee-jerk reaction/viewpoint as of right now… at least as far as concerns your channel. The more I’ve seen, the more impressed and heartened I’ve become. The content you put forward is exceptional. Most impressive is its demand that the viewer actively and intensively ENGAGE in order to derive real benefit. Your credibility abides in the fact that there’s nothing simplistic or dumbed-down in what you present.
    With that said, a valid litmus test of the integrity of a manufacturer / distributor of supplements is what they put in their basic magnesium composition. What I believe to be the largest supplement marketer in the USA sells two general magnesium products. The most substantial component of both is magnesium oxide. It’s an embarrassment and a revelation. This sort of indifference and opportunism ultimately breeds justifiable contempt for an industry that should recognize credibility as its most vital asset.

    There's magnesium and potassium in bone broth which ought to be fairly bio-available. On the plus side it uses as source material something people usually throw away bones from chicken wings an ribs. Canned sardine, salmon & tuna also often have the bones in chewable form likely from how they were coked.

    I think it’s dangerous to start taking vitamins and minerals in high doses, especially when no deficiency is present. Take for instance zinc. People take loads of it thinking they are bolstering their immune system, when in fact they could be creating a deficiency in copper by taking excess amounts of zinc. Be careful folks. Correlation is not causation. Just because there is a connection found between 2 things does not mean one causes the other. Increasing insulin sensitivity is done through fasting and eating low carb. There’s no getting around that.

    • @ashdgee
      @ashdgee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      He's talking about magnesium, which is an electrolyte, not a trace mineral, so your zinc/copper example doesn't really apply. But you're right, overconsumption of one mineral can lead to a deficiency in another mineral. This is especially true for trace minerals (iron, zinc, copper, selenium, iodine, boron, manganese, and chromium being the most utilized) You can be more liberal with electrolytes than with trace minerals without fear of generating a deficiency. This is why all the hype around zinc as an immune booster is so dangerous.

    Here is how insulin resistance was explained to me. The cell has too much glucose in it so it starts to resist insulin that wants to pump more into it. It is like trying to put more gas into your car when you car's tank is full. The car is not gas resistant it is just full.
    EDIT: Now that I watched the video. I take Magnesium to help me sleep. It is one of the effects you mention in another video. I got the Jigsaw brand you mentioned. I have a subscription. The sad part is they are out of stock or was the last last time my auto order was to go through.

    • @TheEnigmaticmuse
      @TheEnigmaticmuse 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This isn't entirely true. Plenty of dumb people including myself did long term vegan or plant based diets and experienced serious calcium depletion which resulted in bone and dental problems. And there are an increasing number of people with a dairy intolerance. Another reason people have problems with calcium is because they're missing the cofactors like mag, K2, silica, boron, etc if you get kidney stones supplementing with calcium, it's probably because the calcium is binding with oxalates either in your diet or oxalates stored in all of your tissues. Oxalates are the real issue when it comes to 80% of kidney stones. Minimize oxalate intake or ramp down gradually if you eat a high oxalate diet because your body will start dumping them and the result can vary from very uncomfortable to painful or even deadly. If you find yourself with kidney stones, consider chanca piedra. Better and quicker relief than you'll ever get from a doctor.

    It's crazy how many people are magnesium deficient, along with vitamin d3. If you think about it, we went from eating magnesium rich foods, the soil was full of magnesium to now. It makes sense that if you lower one thing such as magnesium, it can have a huge impact. I am interested in your opinion on the RDA of 400mg for men. That's the minimum to prevent illness or disease, so shouldn't we have optimal RDAs ?

    I don't understand what goes first, is the cell rejecting the glucose, are other organs producing too much glucose, or are we just not burning it while over consuming glucose generating foods? It looks to me like we eat too many carbs for the amount of energy we burn. It is also obvious to me that most people's diets lack nutrition. Could it be that our farming methods are poor, and we are depleting our soils due to overuse? Is there enough magnesium in the soils we grow our food in? We can't keep increasing our population and continue to overburden our planet, while expecting a beneficial lifestyle. Also, too much salt in our diets means we need to supplement with more potassium to keep our kidneys working, and we all know what too much sugar does to our liver, refined or otherwise.

Supplementing these two minerals is probably not necessary unless specifically prescribed by a health professional. Magnesium levels on the other hand, are low due to depletion in the soil from overfarming in the last 100 years. Supplementing magnesium is vital for health especially as we age.
