I really enjoy your channel! It is so refreshing to see someone I can really relate to! Yay for mature ladies who love good books! If only you lived closer so we could meet for coffee lol. Love your calm and intelligent vibe, thank you.
I can't read more than one book at a time either -- it's like going out for coffee with a dear friend and spending half the time talking to someone you know at the next table. Both conversations end being unsatisfying.
I can actually do it if the books are very different, but I still think my attention to one always suffers in favor of the other, so I love your coffee with a friend metaphor.
Here’s how to select what to read next from your TBR: 1. Blindfold your husband. (I promise this isn’t going anywhere kinky.) Ask him to pull two books from a stack of books, at random. 2. Place the two books in front of one of your cats. Whichever book your cat nudges is the book you read next.
Ha! I love this! Although it will never work because he'll pull two Robin Hobb books because he's all over me to get on with the Realm of the Elderlings series. He can't understand how I can read other books and not plow through. Maybe I should just do the part with the cats!
I had not heard about that challenge. But since I’ve recently been trying to organize my unread books, it sounds like an excellent idea. Please do, however, purchase The Bee Sting before you stop buying books. That book will cure any reading slump!
So I've been digging into my kindle spreadsheet project and found out that my intention to read more of my long-held kindle titles was a delusion! I've read THREE old books and bought many new/new to me titles. I will say that I am more thoughtful about the books I've bought; i.e., Will I REALLY read this? and it's helped. But the anxiety. The most generous conclusion I can make is that at least the author received a royalty of some kind for all those books. The least generous is that I am unlikely to change. I enjoyed your take on the tag and I still remember sobbing my heart out when that thing happened in LD way back in 1987.
Oh yes, the anxiety about the Kindle list. I'm not sure how to tackle it, even with a buying ban in place. On the one hand I think it will be fun to "shop" my own books, and on the other hand I feel slightly panicked at the thought (and of missing out on new and new-to-me stuff). I've bought a lot of Kindle books over the past few months. But I too have been asking myself: will I really read this? I don't know how much things will change but I'll give it a shot. Back in my blogging days I used to do a challenge every year where I read only the books on my shelves Jan-April. That worked really well, but my TBR was much smaller and the rest of the year I used the library, so...
Yay! So glad you have done this tag. My other issue about bookstores is that they don't have many backlist titles in hardcover. I have to go online if I want a new copy, in hardcover, of a book that has now come out in paperback. How's that for an esoteric reader problem? I didn't love Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I felt a little guilty about how much I didn't like Sadie in that novel but she was so aggravating. You've already heard the sad tale of my loaned out copy of The Secret History. Neither a lender nor a borrower be. You're going to do the challenge for a whole year!? I tip my hat to you. I need to seriously slow my buying roll because of space issues but if I do it I'm going to start on the lower tier and throw in a few grandfather clauses.
Thanks again for tagging me! I hear you on the hardcover books. So many of the new books here come out in paperback that's the size of a hardcover but somehow feel cheap. And backlist books (since I tend to want to buy hardcover versions of things I read and love on Kindle, especially) in hardcover--my only option here really is Better World Books. I actually teared up a little when you told that story about The Secret History, even if it isn't your favorite Tartt! What is WRONG with these people? And yes, a whole year. That's the plan. We'll see how long I actually make it! I know for sure I can do 25 books...after that it may get tricky.
I finished _Troubles_ very recently. Started _The Siege of Krishnapur_ (which you said you have read) but set it aside almost immediately. If I can finish _Silas Marner_ which I’m on now I will pick it right back up. So what I’m saying is that I hope you will talk about _Troubles._
I am half laughing half crying at this video!!! I have always had a book buying problem... so I thought until I found booktube a few years ago. NOW. My collection is out of control. I am on a no buy month for not only books but anything that is not a necessity. I know inevitably there will be a book that I will want to buy!!! I know it is a silly series but I had a lot of fun reading the Finlay Donovan series. So I await Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice: by Elle Cosimano. ARGH! I have all of them on Kindle so it won't be so obvious if I buy it. (sign of a true addict) A few more of my answers to the questions: I have mentioned this before. Hated The Shack. Still can't understand the appeal. Many loved it. Yes, My actual mother loved it. I lend out my books all the time. I guess I would not lend something I really cherish. I want to share what I enjoy and figure may as well have as many people enjoy them as possible. I tend to get into a reading slump after I read something very impactful. Just read Even If This Love Disappears Tonight by Misaki Ichijo and my heart still hurts. After buying books, they can sit there for a long time. I wanted to kick myself when I read Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. It was on my shelf for ages. I really enjoyed it. I have so many wonderful books recommended by my favorite booktuber's so I know if I read only from my shelves I will not be disappointed. And Yes! I like by books to match. I have all the Wallander Series by Henning Mankell and only one does not match. Such a offensive look on my shelf. 😜 LOL Say good night Evening Reader! As always a fun video to watch. BTW I should do a Read the books Priscilla recommended for the next month or two 🙃 Bye.
Ha, buying books on Kindle because it's not so obvious! Been there, done that! I managed to dodge reading The Shack for my book club many years ago. Well, maybe not "dodge"--I just refused to read it. I've also gotten to where I lend out books quite freely, but I do have some I won't lend (or else I get another copy, often because the one I have has all my notes in it). I too get into a slump if I read something really impactful. I usually want to stay in that universe...pre-booktube I would just read it again right away. That's funny about the Gillian Flynn--I suspect I will also find myself reading books that have been on my shelf/Kindle for years that are wonderful and I'll be kicking myself, too! That happened to me just a few months ago with Station Eleven, which I had since 2014. Loved hearing your answers, Marcia!
@@EveningReader I really enjoyed station 11 and of course I have two of her other books yet to be read. Too many books but fortunately for me I could pretty much grab anything on my shelf and have a wonderful read on my hands! Thanks for all you do to bring Joy to people's lives.

I bawled my eyes out reading Lonesome Dove. I hadn't cried like that over a book in a very long time
Yes, full ugly cry! But so worth it.

I can't stand the pressure of someone all over me to read a certain book or series. Leave it up to the cats.😄 @@EveningReader
Great video! Welcome to the challenge!
Thank you! 😊

I am planning to buy it this weekend! So happy to hear you loved it.

This is such a fun tag and I love seeing all the responses!
Do the tag, Melinda! I tag you!

I will talk about Troubles! I'm looking forward to it.
I always get a bit claustrophobic when I visit the Book Exchange. I think you are talking about this store in Amsterdam.
Yes, Annie. I do, too, especially if it's crowded.
