    Morrowind had so many unique creatures compared to later installments

    • @cafelatte1124
      @cafelatte1124 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      They just replaced every deep lore details with "go pick this up" or "go kill this". A lot of people claim that the design philosophy of later installments is more geared towards world exploration, but imo they fail at that too because of fast travel. The world feels smaller when you replace transportation systems like silt strider or intervention spells with fast travel.
      So they not only butchered lore and deeper, diverse story telling, they also cut out open world exploration. So making the map bigger does not equal more exploration.

    I love this game SO FREAKING MUCH, and I'm so privileged to be able to play it and enjoy it such a gem, even though I didn't grow up with it, the atmosphere, the world building, the lore, the great antagonist that Dagoth Ur is made Morrowind one of the greatest experiences I had in video games! I can't imagine how magical it was to experience Morrowind back in the day.

    • @boreanknight

      It looked very realistic. My pentium 4 processor could handle it decently (but struggled with Oblivion few years later so I had to update it lol). I was still kinda new to pc, in the 90s I was a console gamer, had it all from super nintendo, sega genesis to first playstation (which is still my favorite console). Moving to pc in early 2000s was mindblowing. I never played an open world game before (and we called them "open ended" back then), and realizing I can walk anywhere, enter every house, talk to anyone, pick up anything... it was the most amazing moment in gaming for me.

    Dreugh and House Dagoth enemies always gave me chills, but I personally found the Winged Twilight as a personal top for me. The eerie pained and fury-filled wail when not in combat could always be audibly heared and especially within darker environments. And when they see you, theirs hate filled eyes lock onto you with a single-minded focus to tear you apart. Also their screams following their devastating attacks really bring fear to lower level adventurers

    I'll always remember the first time I ever encountered a Lame Corprus. I was on my way to the Urshilaku camp for the first time, and thought I had a handle on the game and what was in it. I was on an ash dune and someone had come in to talk to me. I was telling them about the game I was playing. I turned back to my computer to show them something, and suddenly there was a Lame Corprus in my fact attacking me. Massive jumpscare combined with "What the hell is that thing?!"

You fight it and kill it to find yourself too diseased and weak to actually leave and you are left to die there. You become the next bag of fettid meat for protection of the tomb

In the imperial legion one of the forts had a soldier come back and die, but divayth fyr says that the corprus people are immortal. About the corpus stalker, they are mostly former imperials or other Nwah. Its pretty simple actually, dagoth ur follows his goals and for those he sends the touch of the divine from the heart of lorkhan in his blight winds across the land. If Dunmer feel the touch they end up sleeper, then ash slaves, ash ghouls , then either ascended sleepers or ash vampires dependend on what they are good at and how devout they are. if they resisted, failed or are not devote enough? to his goals they turn into ash zombie, with their face and brain and partly mind gone. Everyone else he wants to purge from vardenfell and as such the blight winds turn into a disease turning those touched into corpus stalkers and even more deformed lame corpus not much more than beasts with their minds lost and their bodies deformed by the disease. SPOILERS: As an interesting point in the course of the game we end up with corpus disease and while we deal with it, its never really "healed", the negativ effects are taken care of but there is no healing. The disease actually turns the player immune to age and other diseases, but we still have corpus disease.

    Oh wow, that ascended sleeper artwork is amazing! Do you happen to have a link to a good quality copy of it by any chance?
    And on the subject of the video, I know that this is going to get some raised eyebrows, but what gets my vote (& I specifically mean the Morrowind version) is the scamp.
    There's just something that is so sinister about their faces that every other version of them has failed to capture. They're the type of creature who I have no problem imagining slipping down an unsuspecting family's chimney in the dead of night and absconding off with the children to subject them to all manner of sadistic and horrible things.
    Great video dude and the perfect example of the outright superior design work at play within Morrowind's development. It's just so obvious with retrospect how the game was more than just a job for so many of the people involved. It was a labour of love that's showcased in so many aspects of the game, from the world, to the creatures and the freedom from so many of the conventional trappings of a fantasy setting. They managed to create a world that is at times truly alien.

    • @boreanknight
