One of the cleanest mixes I have heard in awhile. It’s 2 things… the mix itself but the instrumentation is master class as well, intentional, clean dynamics, very nice soundscape and distinct parts and all meshes so well. Great stuff and Praise God!
Lee, a huge thanks for this video! We recently purchased the Wing and have had some struggles with it but seeing this video and being able to get your template it will surely make our job a lot easier! Bless!
It has no business sounding this good on that console. Fantastic job brother. Clearly you guys did a good job capturing everything. The only question I have is did I miss where there's some type of saturation on the lead vocal? There's a little distortion and it almost sounds like something's overdriven but in a really good way. Once again, great job. I rarely have anything nice to say these days with Church audio guys😂
Thanks so much man! There’s no direct saturation effect happening anywhere but the 1176 compressor definitely adds some nice harmonic grit. I could imagine that, along with the Distressor parallel bus might be what you’re hearing!
Amazing work man. I went back and listened to your video from a year ago and it’s awesome to see how you’ve improved! 🎉 Making me want to pick up this board.
29:53 This is awesome! The production of the video is amazing! The mix sounds phenomenal! It’s just an amazing video!! Now my question that I time stamped. How do I figure out how much latency is added when running FX inserts? And is the amount of latency that is added determined on what fx you are inserting? Just trying to wrap my head around this.
Thanks for this video Lee. I'd like to know more about the configuration. I see two MacBook's and a USB Stick. how exactly did you configure them? What software are they running? Are you doing Multi-Track from the SD Card? Or MacBook? Also, can you expand further on the latency issues caused by the FX plugins? Since not all channels and buses were using Fx, does the console calculate the latency? How were you able to figure out 28 samples? God Bless.
We started recording tracks and playing em back for training new people on our team. It should be possible over USB, but since we’re also live streaming we decided to use Dante. In the future we’d also like to use it for the band during rehearsal, so they can configure their in-ear mixes without playing.
Hi Lee. I bought the Behringer Wing package on your website. Are the macros for the Pitch Fix included? Can you a video to explain how to work with this? Thanks
Thank you so much! Yes, they are included. Check the downloaded zip for the presets, also here is a video explaining how to use them. th-cam.com/video/uD3mqpGNmHM/w-d-xo.html
Oh this wasn’t even the half of them, there’s several EQ and Compression emulations all built in to each channel. It’s a little absurd to have this much power.
The mix sounds fantastic and you've definitely given me a couple of ideas to try on my Wing! Also, having Brady on your staff I would imagine helps you tremendously in terms of making sure everything sounds good at the source. One thing I will point out (and there's a TH-camr by the name of Guillaume Lortie that explores this more in depth) is that the Pitch Fix plugin doesn't work the way that traditional AutoTune works (that'd be too convenient lol). By highlighting a note red, Pitch Fix does not pull a note to the nearest available note on one side of it or the other like AutoTune would. Instead, you're telling Pitch Fix which notes to pull to the grid and which ones to simply ignore (i.e. the note highlighted red would not be corrected at all). Ideally you would want to run Pitch Fix "chromatic" where it would pull everything to the nearest note. You would highlight a note red if there's a note that needs to be ignored because it's consistently doing more harm than good.
CORRECT - This is TC Helicon's Chromatic pitch correction found in the Voicelive, Mic mechanic etc, it is not autotune, eliminating notes just ignores the singer from being helped and tuned by 100% at a speed of 60% in your settings. The correct way is to use it Chromatically all the time
Hey Lee. Great mix. Thanks for the Video. One question, why do you “waste” a bus and an fx slot for your dry wet buses. Why not just use the dry wet percentage on the compressor? Let’s say all the drum channels on a bus, there you insert the smash compressor and set the mix to 25%? Or do you eq them differently? Thank you Felix
Lee, I was interested to see you manually adding delay for insert compensation...i thought the wing (and other digital consoles) automatically had delay compensation built in?
Great video, thanks so much! Quick question, why do you not have an empty FX insert on the vocal dry bus like you did on the drum dry bus to help for the delay compensation? Does the Pitch Fix FX on the vocal channels not introduce latency?
Thank you! Yes, Pitch Fix does introduce latency, but each vocal has the same processing, therefore delaying in time together into each bus. Vocal channels are sends only into the busses, which then are sent to Master. Hope this explains!
@@alexleebataller Awesome, thank you!! Could you maybe quickly expand on the delay compensation you did to the drum channels that don't have an insert on them, that stuff is still confusing me a bit. Are you doing that to only the drum channels or to every channel in the entire mix(guitars, vocals etc.) that doesn't have an insert on them?
@@alexleebataller Actually I think I get it now. You're just adding the delay compensation to any channel within it's own subgroup, like the drums, that doesn't have an insert on them so that they're in time with the other channels that do have inserts by the time they hit the drum subgroup bus?
thanks for another video Lee. Hey on the guitar panning tip, I think using the tilt feature on the wing would accomplish the exact same thing that you are doing and allowing you to go back to one channel strip per guitar. Im not talking about the tilt EQ but the tilt pan which compensates one way or the other to the left or right channel of a stereo pair. Its not a pan, but takes away gain from one side or the other. Also I think you mentioned, but on all of your vocal channels, are you unassigning them from all the main outputs and having only the reverbs and delays assigned to the main outputs? Thanks.
Great Work! Congratulations! Can You kindly say how did you conect the Mac to the console for multitrack mixing? Is it through built-in USB connection? Dante? Ethernet? Best!!
