in offshore accounts. Petro-Dollarisition generated over $200T in the last 45 years, mainly booked offshore and subject to no jurisdiction/no regulation of standing. Private wealth gobbles up the

@@quentinjalapeno1344 Speaking at a march is _not_ the same as organising effective industrial action by the RMT to prevent the flow of weapons and parts to the genocidal State of Israel. Lynch talks much, does nothing. Compare British trade unions' blowhard inaction with, say, the UK-based Palestine Action who have been illegally entering the premises of companies and banks associated with Israel and creating rightful havoc, resulting in Israeli arms factories being forced to close. Or the Houthis in Yemen who, at enormous cost and no benefit to themselves, have been interdicting Israel-bound shipping in the Gulf. No, making a speech at a rally is one thing. Doing something about it is another.

Government to blame above all for low wages since 2008 and arguably way before this, obviously. Public to blame for looking the other way when they know full well of the suffering in supposedly the sixth richest economy in the world ( where is all that money? Oh, yes, it's hidden away by the rich). Most people don't want to be in a union because they only care about themselves and want the approval of their boss, and many who are members are still apathetic and do nothing. Many unions are weak and have stood by while wages have declined, which is why living standards are plummeting. Average workers in France and Germany earn £8000 more than in the UK. Watch the unions cave in with paltry pay awards that will continue to depress living standards. The TSSA has just accepted a deal that includes a no compulsory redundancy agreement until January 31, 2025, and a minimum pay rise of at least £1,750 or five per cent (whichever is greater) backdated to January 1, 2022, which it is said is worth at least seven per cent to staff earning £25,000 or less. Around seven percent- utterly ridiculous in the face of rampant inflation, which will still remain too high even if it decreases. Only two years for a no compulsory redundancy agreement. A rubbish deal. The workers will be betrayed by the union movement and have no support from the Labour Party.

My father was a staunch blue collar Conservative, yet two people he had the greatest respect for were the late Bob Crow and Tony Benn. In fact if anyone mentioned Ted Heath, you could always hear my dad mutter 'silly old fool'. I'm an ex CWU member and rep, and I cannot believe the desperate way our government is seeking to erode even further the ability of trade unions to represent their members. I am also shocked the the Labour party has forbidden their senior MP's from supporting picket lines, when it was unionised workers on pocket lines who created the Labour party. Mick Lynch is a shining example of how people in the public eye should conduct themselves. Compared to our politicians and the vast majority of mainstream journalists, he stands head and shoulders above them. Mick Lynch has more concern for ordinary, working people in his little finger than the entire cabinet. We live in a sad world when people who care are cut down by politicians who are only there to feather their own nest, when they should be in politics to make the world a better place for all.

Dead right Mick, I am 68 years old and never would have believed that workers could become so poor in real terms as they are right now, in 1979 I brought home approximately £105 per week, after tax, factor job in Hasslinden.
You could buy 7 or 8 pints for a pound, a loaf of bread was less than 13p a council flat about £8 per week, so my wage was worth 735 pint of Bitter or 807 loafs of bread or enough to pay for 13 council fats. How much is a pint now £4.00 --£4.50, therefore I would have to earn at least £2950 per week £12,000 per month in a semi skilled factory job to be as well off, no wonder all the pubs have shut.

I think the reason the pubs in Wales are struggling because of our Labout Government banning smoking in all pubs. They could have instead have a food license and smoking license but not both. Twice the license fees for no extra work required. I never felt very positive about Mick and Unions in general, I joined the military at 17 so never went through my early working years in a Union. This video has really made me question my beliefs so going to do more research. I think my vote just flipped!

Right now we need people like Mick who can deliver a clear, factual talk like this to help people see the obvious.
I’ve lived through times of bargaining power and solid conditions for employment to today where the whole workforce has been deregulated into casual labour. Well, look how that has worked. Falling wages and abysmal working standards that beggars belief. When my daughter describes her working conditions, I just shake my head wondering how the hell this could have happened. It’s obvious. Lynch is neither a Union Baron, or Union Boss. Barons and Bosses don't get democratically elected. He doesn't tell his members what to do, he polls them, and they move forward together. The RMT has as many members as some constituencies, making him more like an MP, but he gets paid less than an MP, but represents the working class in his union. Maybe local MPs should represent the working class in their communities, while getting paid less. Then they might have a point, but they don't, and we all know it.

MPs should be paid less. Some on the left ( very few) have led by example by taking an average worker's wage. Dave Nellist is a good example ( former Coventry MP in the eighties and early nineties). He is principled and articulate, yet was demonised by the media. Union leaders should be paid less. Never mind pay being set fairly via a process- it is not the point. MPs and union leaders are paid excessive salaries and no-one should be fooled into thinking they are not an integral part of the establishment. Let's not forget the much bigger picture is the unseen and overlooked salaries of the mega rich in other sectors.

No, I for one do not "know it". His end goal is right, for the poor to get richer, but his system of getting there will do the opposite.
When you increase taxes for the rich, you get mass unemployment. They want to make more money therefore they will cut wages, fire employees, decrease expenditure of their businesses, etc. All of these things are bad for the employees.
The minimum wage laws are absolutely terrible. The job market, as any market should be competitive, this means if I can offer my labour at McDonalds at £5 an hour, far under the minimum wage of for example £9 an hour, I will be able to get work extremely easily. Minimum wage laws objectively decrease employment. You only need to look at the unemployment rates and the mimunum wage laws being put into place, there is a direct correlation.
What we DO need is the government to fuck off out of our economy and especially our money supply. The single leading factor causing this cost of living crisis is inflation, and that is DIRECTLY caused by the UK government adding more money into circulation. @saf let me explain how a union works.
Workers decide they need representation, so we all vote for a spokesperson in a democratic vote to be our leader, someone who will represent us at the highest level in our field of work.
When they get voted in, they then get a salary that comes out of our union subs, not the taxpayers' pockets but from our own pockets from our own hard earned money.
This person is effectively our employee, and we can remove them if we are not happy with their performance or we can just leave the union all together and not pay their wages at all.
So basically, in a nutshell, we don't care if the leader is getting paid whilst we are not because we are paying them to represent us and get us a better deal long term from our employers.

I'm not in a Union now, as I work in security, and they did nothing for me when I had a grievance, but I'm all for Unions that get worker's rights passed in employment law, and whilst I was working at Fords UK in engineering the union was strong, they got reasonable pay deals, and until the closing last few years before the foundry shut down, they did manage to refuse management taking on new employees as 'Temporary Workers' without contracts and every worker had to join, because it was 'A Closed Shop' they also stopped management from introducing 'Corridor Hours.' Although the 'Minimum Hourly Rate' helped thousands of lowly paid in the UK, it has unfortunately kept wages lower than what they would have been, especially in the lower paid sector, what the Unions need to do, is make and enforce inflation linked pay rises attached to the minimum hourly rate wage, in the UK the real living wage in London is £14:40 per hour, the rest of the UK it's £13:70 per hour, this is what the Unions could and should introduce.

Having been a trade union member from age 20 to retirement I fully support the union movement and the current industrial action. Trade unions are a force for fairness and good in our society, they must be allowed to operate legally. Let's train and properly reward British workers, stop importing cheap foreign labour, stop incentivising asset speculation over manufacturing and services, and rein back the excesses of the rich.
