Lunch is clearly not too clever or playing some populist corrupt game. He is a Brexiteer... And the reason? He opposed FOM.. A right he & his Brexit friends have taken away from us. . That's despite the evidence was FOM had very little effect on wage depreciation and that was outweighed by the positive advantages. There is a difference btwn a labor shortage and a labour surplus. Many Australians, including trade Unionists, in the 1950's objected to their government promoting immigration. They thought it depressed wages but there were too many vacancies.. Stopping immigration would only have meant wages rising in one area creating vacancies elsewhere as employees swooped jobs. Result? Wage inflation and if inflation is the answer to prosperity then Zimbabwe would now be mega rich.
Secondly, the surge of East Europeans here was caused by the UK voluntarily letting them when the other major EU countries didn't. Poor from the collaspe of communism, of course many came but they overwhelmingly all worked, so we needed the labour. Now the East Europeans are richer & facing demographic decline. The surge was a one off. Voting to Leave to stop 'poor' East Europeans supposedly depressing wages was not so much bolting the stable door too late but burning down the stable. Brexit is bad for the UK and particularly bad for the North of England where people are poorer and will be made even poorer by Brexit..Already the country is trillions worse off... 🙄 🇪🇺 🇬🇧

The British taxpayer should not be paying for working tax credits so employers can get out of paying a living wage. Blair made three mistakes. Minimum wage, Tax credits and allowing flood of Eastern European workers in. No I'm not racist. These same workers ended up being exploited and treated badly as well. Not quite sure using the doctors and nurses as a good example of how other services are reacting to the train strikes, have a look how many times doctors and nurses have actually threatened or took industrial action since the Torries came into power fighting for a decent wage increase, and don’t forget during Covid19 it was due to public pressure that the Government had to give the nurses and doctors a financial bonus for all their hard work during Covid and that was after Bojo made his historical message “Let the bodies pile high” so at a guess the NHS workers will be right behind Mike !!!!! As for train passengers blocking stations etc I think you’ll find that the majority of people that were questioned by the MSM actually backed Mike, many said it’s about time someone actually stood up for the working man as Starmer certainly wasn’t going to !!!
As Mike put it, people are sick watching the man at the top getting big fat bonuses and these owners making vast amounts of profits when the working man’s denied wage increases for years !!!!
No, Mike will be put to the front of the cue if he has a heart attack and I’m prity certain rail travellers will wish they had a union rep just like Mike, especially the low paid that only get the basic pay and are having to use food banks to survive !!!!
Let’s not forget these owners intend implementing redundancies across the whole of the train sector, do you really believe that these train passengers will be taking their anger out in this sectors workers or where the real troubles are implemented from, higher up the chain, I think we will see more and more public sector workers follow in the footsteps of Mike !!!! This is what the working public see as “Levelling Up” not the vision that Boris Johnson and his Government keep pumping out to the public as “this is what the public want !!!”

      Great point.
It's tempting to be cynical, and unhelpful to make comparisons between two different countries. However, when I lived in Britain, it felt like the same story only worse.
The pay was similar between Oz and UK, only living costs in UK were horrendous. In the past 20 years though, the Oz Tories did a great job aiming towards a fractured, unequal US model.
We just had a heap of independents elected, so I see a disillusionment with the Labor party. But the Labor leader, thankfully, ultimately prevailed because the alternative was so despicably rancid.
Lynch made a great point that labor has lost its fire, and in moves populists. He is a breath of fresh air, and the best thing to happen to the Labor party. A wake up call.

When people stand together and unite it can lead to change. Our media have done everything they can to divide people over minute issues in order to prevent people standing together and uniting. If people are in a position to join a union, then it’s the best thing they can do.

"I remember the picket lines of the 1980s"
If you're older than you look, you'll also remember what the police did and how the media were complicit in covering it up. Did she not actually do any journalism in the 80s because according to Wikipedia she was a radio/tv reporter for much of the 80s.

Kay Burley comes across an even more unhinged Edwina Currie! She's so egotistical thinking that her 'journalism'(!!!!!!!) benefits the 'public'. What a sad low standard. It's tragic.

This was deeply satisfying. We need someone like him leading Labour. Someone actually willing to just be honest. I hate how slimy Kier often comes across. It's a huge shame how disappointing he is, but establishment politicians generally are.

A Labour leader in the 2020s has to appear cautious...he knows exactly what happens if he takes a position on a major strike and what happens if he manned a picket line.....the press would be in full rabies mode...The Mell would be trying to chew its own face off. Keep it cool...you are the adult...don't fall into their trap...He is the PM in waiting...........by the way it's Keir, not Kier and if you want slimy, Look at Grant Schapps..........(Grant...lol......should change that to Darren Twocker..lol)

Labour and Conservatives are both Blairites and entirely unrepresentative of the British public. We need a strong adversarial system in which both parties actually represent the electorate. Hopefully both parties die and are replaced with such parties headed by the likes of Mr. Lynch. No nonsense, direct, articulate.

Agreed, but I guess the right wing media would try and discredit him with a bunch of misinformation for showing honesty, integrity and accountability the way they did with Corbyn. There seems to be no room in our politics for honest people.

@@southney7211 He's a different animal to Corbyn. Corbyn was toothless while this guy is armed to the teeth. He'd be superb in PMQ. He's already had such an impact in winning over the public against all the odds there's no telling where his future lies.
