@@MrLondonGo Get real, the tories have been massively underfunding the NHS since 2010 along with other public services here in the UK. They want to privatise it and deny healthcare for millions of people here in the UK. Unfortunately governments for years have been held by the cahunas by the monsters that run the trusts. A friend of mine used to be a senior manager in the NHS and tried to report millions in fraud, and was hounded and gaslit until he resigned. This was over a decade ago. Stand strong - you are not alone and the same controlling forces have their fingers in all pies and are gradually being exposed. It looks to me like we can only change this from the ground up, and these mass strikes play an essential role in creating this shift. Thank you for your service and best of luck. 🙏🤗
@@BibtheBoulder But how is it going to help? Our economy is in the shit and instead of letting it recover and grow the whole country seems to be desperate to claw every last penny from it. If we keep allowing inflation to spiral as it is by ever increasing pay demands, then any possible economic growth will just be eaten up.

Been a postal worker for 36 years. Never known anything like this before. The greed at the top of the company is eye watering. Thanks Jonathan for the support. We appreciate it when someone sees through the tory media crappie and calls it out as it really is. Cheers mate and merry Christmas.
RM has gone to the dogs since it was privatised. I’m glad posties, rail workers, and nurses are striking. If it were up to me, I’d shut the whole goddamn country down until the breathtaking greed at the top is tempered and hog-tied.
Have to keep telling everyone at my job that even though we ship a ton of orders through RM daily and have to deal with people blaming us for orders arriving late, that we shouldn't be blaming any staff at Royal Mail besides the top. Most of you are doing your best, especially in a situation like Christmas. Even though my work is dependent on postal workers, I wish only the best to them and hope they get treated like the hard working people the majority are.
Wishing you the best @captainbimble like all things the Tories privatise the little guy always gets shat on. "Been a postal worker for 36 years." Why? Why not get a better job that pays more? Are you telling me you do a job that pays crap, and in 36 years you never once looked for a better job that pays more?
This will probably be far to far down the list of comments to ever be noticed but as a rail worker this is spot on. RMT dispute isn’t about money, it’s jobs and security. No one is going to accept a pay rise where one of the conditions to accepting it is that you’ll be made redundant (and that isn’t a joke). Well done Pie, keep telling it how it is.
Exactly the same as the Royal Mail dispute, yet the media and the company are desperate to spin the line that greedy posties have turned down 9% pay offer , we have not been offered 9% and the offer we have had would mean saying goodbye to pretty much every term and condition we currently have , thousands being made compulsory redundant , yet the company would keep thousands of casual workers.
I noticed. You and others are standing up to keep hard-won rights; won over decades of people standing together. This govt is just bulldozing through these rights (incl peaceful protest) to fund their mates. Keep on
@@simonevans5576 Think its the same with most of these disputes, the NHS is a shambles overmanaged, under resourced and understaffed at the frontline - has been like this for last 20 years but nobody does anything........ their is 'no loyalty to workers' anymore from these companies and organisations -whilst they 'expect it in return, but then treat the workforce like shit on their shoes, to be disposed of in the nearest bin.
The Daily Mail (and their readers) hate you all and your “greed” but then threatened the govt if they didn’t give pensioners an inflationary rise. (And benefits recipients too) Those who work, pay for all of those increases but are also villains for wanting a near inflation pay rise and a job next year. 🤔 Still, removing the cap on city bonuses will definitely trickle down and kick start the economy. As ever, JP calls it about right
A comment one up from yours from @Sugar Puff that explains the horrible conditions her husband has dealt with working as a rail worker. Its very shocking stuff. Someone should also point out that the Daily Mail's workers went on strike for better pay and yet they're spreading hate against others for doing the same. Hypocrites 😡
As a postie going through a disciplinary for calling out bullying and lies in Royal Mail, I'd like to thank you for sharing support. There's always more to the argument than the public knows and we need people like Pie to call it out and open some eyes.

Well done melanie! As a fellow nurse working in Australia and trained in the UK, I am with all nurses striking for better everything. It is long deserved!!! Merry Christmas
You deserve a MUCH better deal for yourselves, not just your patients (although they deserve a nursing profession that's fully staffed, motivated and well-paid, too).

Yep. Although it is funny how people walking past are paying no attention to a guy going apeshit. Used to laugh at him. Now I want to vote for him. Still great.
Ok here is my thoughts on the problem: "So why should workers get wages that allow them to live a reasonable existence and avoid poverty? Well, workers produce the goods, build the houses, build the roads, transport the goods, heal the sick, repair what's broken, provide the services, work out the balance sheets, fight the wars, manage, clean and protect society. We provide the dual roles in the economy of worker and taxpayer, producer and consumer, service provider and service user. We are collateral, taxpayers, cannon fodder and consumers. Why do we live in poverty while the rich siphon our taxes to their offshore accounts and provide little use to society other than investing their inherited wealth for their own profits? Corporations, politicians and the media think they have all the power to control and manipulate us. But without workers there are no profits, without voters, politicians are impotent, without viewers and readers the media are powerless. We give them profits, potency and power, we should always remember that...
Spitting facts once again Pie. It utterly disgusts me how the Tories villanise striking workers when they have themselves to blame for this. I cannot wait for the next election, I hope they get stamped out for good
@kevone That's what the Tories want you to believe. They're praying that enough of the people who oppose them will give in to despair and not bother turning up to vote, because it's the only way they will remain in power. Everyone eligible needs to show up and make their voice heard if we want to kick them out on their arses, or better yet into prison for a lot of them.
I rather think the tories know which way the next election is going and will be happy to let labour take over for a few years. They've created a pile of sh*t for someone else to clean up and are already making their way to the exits. So many tory MPs have already said they won't be seeking reelection.
What I worry about is that when (or if?) we do vote in a new government, whoever it is will be blamed for the Tory's mismanagement over the last 12 years, that whatever they do 'won't be enough' and so people will go back to the Tories :/ Cynical, I know, but I worry.
Who you voting for then? Labour and the lib Dems are also being run by the world economic forum....it doesn't matter which one of the main parties get voted in these days, they will all do as their WEF overlords will tell them to do.....and it won't be for our benefit!......
But to be fair we shouldn't strike. We should just accept the low wages, increased cost of living the lack of food and heating. The reason for this is that wealthy people are special and deserve every luxury our poverty can provide them!
What was once simply a satirical parody of modern times has now become a singular voice of reason in a world gone mad. Quite frankly brilliant yet also greatly tragic in a sense when you realise we’ll all living in the joke. Welcome to Pie’s world.
I have never seen a finer piece of journalism. At last, the truth has been presented to me, in language appropriate for full expression. Imagine going for a pint with Jonathan Pie. Then imagine going for a pint with Sunak. Many thanks, Jonathan! You are the star of 2022, and an inspiration.
Sunak would be the richest person in the pub but would be the last to buy a round I bet. Very true that the country, and no doubt the world, just revolves around shares and profit margins and the individual workers are of little importance. I'm concerned that Community Carers don't have a union. They're not registered Nurses. Some experience in care is desirable, but really all they need, to qualify for the position, is to pass a DBS-Check, be willing to learn & have a heart as big as the Earth. They work long hours, are out in all-weathers, contrary to some people's ideas of Community Care, they are not sat down all day, gossiping with grannies, drinking tea. They're dealing with what comes out the other end. Their work allows & facilitates the dignity of their service users, most importantly, it helps them to remain independent, in their own homes. I'd like to see the Community Carers represented, in order that they can have their issues addressed. The agencies able to pay that bit more, that are able to show that they value all of their staff & the difference they make every day, for the elderly, disabled, physically & mentally-ill, are increasingly few & far between. Some are on zero-hours contracts, not paid for or even given travel-time, get little to no downtime on their shift, they get a poor return on their fuel expenditure, they're needed to cover absences on their days off, meaning they don't get adequate rest, have no energy for their housework, unable to spend time with their friends & families, as much as they'd like or need to. There is a high turnover of staff in this sector, for those very reasons. These amazing humans are not in it for the money, they do it because, as difficult as it is, it is one of the most rewarding jobs. The same goes for Nurses, Doctors, all of the grafters in the NHS that have been drilled into the ground, they've not only the need, they've a right to strike, not for barely-adequate pay, for their right to commensurate remuneration. The fact there are MANY workers, not being paid what they're worth, not being paid enough to subsist on, never mind to save for one holiday a year, is beyond disgusting to me, it's reprehensibly deplorable. Strike is the very last thing they want. But they have all been backed into a corner & to back down now would mean that all that fighting, for what is only fair, would be in vain. The fact there are so many striking Unionised workers is that their Union bosses smell opportunity and can sell a narrative of poverty to the public who aren’t questioning the reasons behind it. Why set national pay scales? Isn’t it more important to ensure basic pay meets basic living needs in each location a public service operates? It isn’t pay per se that’s the issue. It’s that some public and private sector workers, on the same pay, are in poverty, whilst others are in clover. Set pay relative to the location the work is performed. Ensure that workers are localised not travelling in to exploit good pay thereby depriving the local economy. Property inflation caused wages to decline in their disposal income. Low mortgage rates helped that inflation but rises in tandem with the costs of living have made things even worse. Pay increases simply add to the lunacy by pumping more money into inflating property, the major problem. But hey, let’s give more pay, even to those on higher pay who’ve seen diminished lifestyles, a major social burden, to solve the problem. And let’s do it again after everyone has got one and no one is better off.
I worked for 27 years in the meat industry here in New Zealand. Whenever we had to strike to get the employers to see reason, we were always vilified by the media and the rest of society. We were looked down upon in our community and shunned by so many. Now, the nurses and doctors are having to learn the lesson we learned all those years ago, that as long as you are prepared to keep working, the employer does not have to confront the reality of the situation. For nurses and doctors the pressure is incredible, because they have people's lives to consider. Unfortunately, the employer knows that too and they exploit that fact which is why they have been able to pay nurses and doctors so little for so long. It seems to have escaped some people's minds that unless these workers are paid what they are worth, then, there will be no one to care for them when they need them.
It's still happening in the UK. Striking workers are vilified here- Pie's voice is an exception in the media, the norm is government (and corporate) propaganda
Here in the US the beef industry has been taken over by just four bidders at cattle auctions. That may sound like a healthy number in NZ, but it amounts to a conspiratorial trust in a country as large as the US. And we have antitrust laws here and have broken up a beef trust before. Yet somehow small plot calf finishers are depicted as greedy for having meetings to talk about how auctions don't work like they used to. Local Sinclair Media owned TV station media station made it out this was some kind of socialist plot to destroy the mighty companies that keep beef affordable. As if working people eat beef anymore.
Government: we can't afford to pay nurses a few more pounds per hour to pay bills. Also Government: Spends hundreds per hour on emergency nurses when there is an inexplicable nurse shortage for reasons we can't figure out.
This exact thing happens all the time. In the USA workers went on strike for a pay rise, they all got fired or quit, because the US is even more corrupt and corporate than we are somehow. Anyway a few weeks later they had to raise the pay because they weren't attracting new employees. And I believe they even had to raise it beyond initial demands.
@@tankie9997 Sooo many nurses quit their jobs to become emergency nurses during covid to be paid 3-4x more than they would have otherwise for doing the same work.... Problem is that the Tories are equivalent to the Democrats, not the Republicans. The US doesn't have a centre left party like the Labour party. The Democrats are right wing and the Republicans are extreme right. You've had plenty of Democrats in power but you still have privatised healthcare and the death penalty (just a couple of examples of right wing policies).

Spare a thought for carers looking after the elderly on barely £10 an hour, and all they had to endure during covid. No one gives a sh%t about them. By and large carers go into that profession as a vocation never expecting to earn good money because that sector has never paid good money. They work extremely long hours in order to earn a salary that they can barely live upon. The same has always been true of the nursing profession, hasn't it? And don't nurses these days generally earn a lot more than they used to. I'm certain that relatively speaking they do. So I'll just put this out there: Nurses worth their salt should never go on strike and nurses of old would never have contemplated taking any form of industrial action that was to the detriment of their patients..
while we had to work other companies and small businesses got handouts from the government....now those small businesses are complaining the parcels they sent are delayed. It's beggar's belief.

EDIT: I'm keeping the original comment here for integrity because I still feel very much in that frame of mind. Injustices are still happening. It's a fact of life. HOWEVER, due to recently looking further into Tom Walker (who is a very good actor in terms that he can play a pissed off presenter quite well) and Andrew "So Left Wing I joined GB news as a panelist and detest the 'woke mob' (which just means women) and supported Brexit that is currently taking us around the back to shoot us in the skull for breaking all our legs on purpose like a psychotic suicidal racehorse on glue" Doyle, I did a bit of digging. ...And it's depressing because Walker and Doyle (not to be confused with the poorly recieved remake of Miami Vice set in the North of England) are entertainers who like to latch onto the disaffected and populist tract of reactionary horse plop. Which I fell for, hook, line and sinker! I will be honest and say that they tricked me. Say things angrily enough from a centrist perspective and you win both sides of the debate enough that you can start off on RT (not to be confused with RTE which I assume hasn't been complacent in assisting a dictatorship? I dunno, I'm out of the loop on Irish telly) and then slowly worm your way into GB News and BBC Radio 4 by saying "Yeah, both sides suck am I right? BUT at least the right wing part actually pays a bit better". Same old story. Anyway, here's the original comment: The moment I realised the major divide in this country was the day of the Queens funeral. Couldn't stay at home and watch it so I took a walk. An entire country shut down again. I eventually walked past one of the churches close to my house and I saw people there and it was the only place open. It was operating as a food bank. There was a line out of the door and I've never seen it so busy. These were families of people. And nobody saw them because we were too busy looking at a corpse of someone "important". You see the divide in real time and good lord it's harrowing. And yet our PM is a multi Millionaire who has never had to use a food bank. He can put that on the expenses. I worked for the Royal Mail and that job is absolute back breaking work for nothing. Zero hour contracts through Angard Staffing which is a company THEY made after privatising in 2013 because they don't need to pay an outside agency and can pay themselves but not give any of their Angard Staff the benefits. They can have zero hours ever since the shareholders invented Angard staffing, because it means they've got their own agency and can tell people to piss off if they don't want to spend the money. They privatised the "Royal" Mail and the whole operation is now a complete shit show. They want to do the same to the Police, the Armed Services, the Civil Service, the NHS, Libraries, city Council services... They don't want public spending because that means no profits and no bonuses for shareholders and CEOs. That's a YOU problem. Them? They can afford private! Javid even said that he wants to introduce an Insurance style health care service like the US into this sodding country. THAT'S lovely isn't it? Broke your leg? Tough shit, your insurance only covers retinal damage. We're watching in real time what they want to do. They're not even subtle about it anymore. You're poor? Sod off. You're poor AND working? Sod off. You're rich and diamonds erupt out of your arse when you sneeze? COME IN! You're one of us! I have to laugh or I'll just vomit with sorrow and anger.
Very well said, but one thing I take issue with. The proposed health system changes were like Germany/France (both of which have a collective-insurance component in the health funding system but it still covers everyone for everything), not like the US (which is all insurance and ailment-specific and a terrible system). There is a huge difference.

So if you all starve, or die of covid, it does not affect me at all. Post is irrelevant, as I have a private courier. Potholes don't matter, as I fly. Climate change does not matter, as I can simply move somewhere nice. None of this affects me. So it's not really a problem. So shut up and make money to give to me.
It's a fucking travesty here, NHS gutted for 16 years, face such intense stress as 'essential workers' in pandemic time, given a George Cross and then told to go back to business as usual. It's a joke.
There are spooky similarities here in Oz with the past behaviour of the Morrison Federal government and the current NSW Liberal (~ conservative) governments!!

"Been a postal worker for 36 years."
Why?
Keep on

The way he yelled "The BASTARDS!" has got to be my favourite part of the video.

Everyone eligible needs to show up and make their voice heard if we want to kick them out on their arses, or better yet into prison for a lot of them.
I rather think the tories know which way the next election is going and will be happy to let labour take over for a few years. What I worry about is that when (or if?) we do vote in a new government, whoever it is will be blamed for the Tory's mismanagement over the last 12 years, that whatever they do 'won't be enough' and so people will go back to the Tories :/ Cynical, I know, but I worry.

Sunak would be the richest person in the pub but would be the last to buy a round I bet.
Love the way Jonathan hits us between the eyes.
I concur!
So true. They squander billions here and billions there yet can’t give the nurses a decent pay rise. It’s disgusting. They need to be voted out of power.

So what are you going to do about it?
@Gary Walls
They are selected not elected
Or just admit that the NHS is unworkable and bring in a private insurance based system.
I actually gave that a standing ovation in my own home. Bravo sir!
Thank you, Mr Pie. This is powerful and I have shared this with everyone I can think of.
@@neelubird the propaganda is being force-fed worldwide by corrupt media and self serving RW politicians.
My girlfriend here in the states, who is an RN by trade, approved the last tirade.
The nurses have *always* had that crap thrown at them. I remember it during the days of Thatcher.
Also government: why aren't people spending money? We'll end up in a recession at this rate!
Now *that's* proper market pressure, shows what they're really worth. Sucks for the people needing healthcare though, especially since it did nothing for nurse burnout, which will only make things worse in the future...

What Republicans don't agree with what Pie just said? Except the politicians of course.

Anyway, here's the original comment:
The moment I realised the major divide in this country was the day of the Queens funeral.
Damn Right!
Ever word.
Time to remember where the pitchforks and torches are.
Well very said. Thank you for writing that!
Very well said, but one thing I take issue with. The proposed health system changes were like Germany/France (both of which have a collective-insurance component in the health funding system but it still covers everyone for everything), not like the US (which is all insurance and ailment-specific and a terrible system). There is a huge difference.

Hello. Rich person here.
Let me explain.
You see, I don't actually live in your country. I fly over it. Sure, my body might be in the borders, but if I get sick, I can go to a private hospital.
