Yooo! I’ve been trying to find that Fate game forever ! I couldn’t remember shit about it other then it was a free default game but I had no luck finding it. Can we still play it?!?
Fate 2, Blackhawk 2, Virtual Villagers and Plants vs Zombies all on WildTangent created memories I will never forget. (As well as running out of free coins, so I would not close the game until the timer expired xD)
Really wish they milked Fate more and made a real multiplayer fate game. That was my dream as a kid was to play fate with my cousin, going deeper and deeper into the infinite dungeon, taking down bosses together and find rare unique items
I remember going to the wildtangent website and was looking for polar golfer, i ended up stumbling on fate and since then i fell in love with it, my fondest memory was fishing and make a ton of gold in a matter of minutes and ending up buying weapons that i couldn't carry due not having enough mana, nostalgia was hitting pretty hard
Some of the wildtangent games were released in a physical form on PC, being published by Mumbo Jumbo. I happen to have one that contains Polar Bowler, Polar Golfer, Polar Tubing, and "Penguins!". These versions didn't need tokens to play. This is primarily how I experienced games by WildTangent. Polar Bowler also surprisingly received a Nintendo DS port (also published by Mumbo Jumbo).
Was just trying to show my homie gameplay of the polar bowling video games and found your vid. Dope as hell and you took me way back, keep up the good work💯
I remember playing Plants vs Zombies, Bounce Symphony and other games on my brother's laptop It was so good back then (2012 or so), I'll never forget it
You’re on point. I messed up my parents pc after messing with it for a couple of years. Borrowed my sister GPU as well😉 Made my own fan configuration and a vent out the window at night when it’s cold as shit outside.
Great presentation, fun to watch and listen to, excellent building of context to the early 2000's. Fate came with my HP laptop and was mind-blowing fun for a laptop of the day. Flash forward, Fate is still mind-blowing from a fun gameplay standpoint, even if the graphics are obviously classic now.
Yeah. That's a nice comparison between WildTangent and Valve/Steam. Both started by ex Windows employees. But I would think they were following in Valve's footsteps, what with Half-Life 1 already being released and then they started their company, etc. Well we know who won big in that fight
Thanks! Yeah, they both had potential! I think of GlaDos' quote "...Although great science is always the result of collaboration, keep in mind that, like Albert Einstein and his cousin Terry, history will only remember one of you."
I'm glad that the Fate series is available on Steam - I played the demo more times than I can count growing up - but it's a damn shame the rest of their games aren't on Steam. Hell, finding them on abandonware sites is a crapshoot.
Damn. It was 2009. I was playing Fate demo on my mom's Vista desktop. I would go play on for hours each because there's limited free coins - and I want to go as far in the game as I can.
I remember getting home to the good old windows xp pc to go online while mams on the crt watching grate British bake off and I'm to high on the chair playing roblox that hot wheels track builder or crazy chicken kart OR POALER GOLF the good old times it's on my top 10😢
Do u maybe have any clue about some other game launcher (late 2000s, early 2010s), something similar to wild tangent, where you could play games for free but it would expire after some time (idk if it was free trial or u wouls have limited free playtime every month). I remember playing some platformer which I have just a picture of in my mind, the background was black I think, you were a very small character, and I think, if I am not wrong, there were some mine carts as well. It bothers me for a few months now and I cant seem to find a single clue about what that could be. I just think it wasnt WildTangent.
I vaguely remember what you're talking about! But I can't remember if the minecarts were on a single level or if it was the theme of the game! I'll let you know if I think of something! :D
I'm surprised this is the only true retrospective I've seen on this company who was the Rovio or Gameloft of their day. Also really not, lending to the fact its brand was marketed as casual, family games. When I look back ( guess to the days of Circuit City and Compusa) kind of associated them with the games found on cheap compilation packs that even made it to the local pharmacy. I was out of their demo either via age or budget wise but for young children and less tech savy people this was their first doorway to gaming. An added plus was the shareware model, not being a social portal for pedos or edgelord youth and a general wholesome approach is something that's missing for early middle school demographic today. Especially compared to Fortnight and minecraft. The average 8 yr old today is either learning to curse, using the parent's CC topurchase in game currency or install some type of malware/phishing program. That being said, they're kind of the progenitors of mobile gaming with a lot of their titles eventually getting sequels or remakes in the early iOS/ android game scene. Didn't help the old model introduced introduced annoying trends like ads, monetization schemes and a glut of shovelware to wade through. Factoring in as well was back in those XP and vista days of bloated oem launchers, these games along with other manufacturers' "convient" pre-installs would tax your cpu/ram and had to be killed via task manager. Eventually you would uninstall them all or face 10 minute startups, watch the computer turn into a flip book or just BSOD. Such an odd curio of a company that's not technically dead just like newgrounds but that era of gaming is a void that never will be filled due to specific early pc/ internet tech era. Yes, twitch, youtube, netflix ... 100s of social platform, media and tech companies have tried with little fanfare. Can argue consoles and cell phones/tablet but they had to up their games over the years, there's so much competition and besides who playing browser games in 2024?
Yo wait PLEasE! I AM BEGGING YOU TELL ME WHATS THE CHICKEN called. I completely wipe my memory over this. Been tracing back my childhood anyway I wanna play the chicken again please
Not sure which chicken you're referring to, but the chicken game in the frame around 3:56 is called Crazy Chicken Tales, and is part of a Crazy Chicken franchise all starring that character. Looks like the character's name is Moorhuhn, as that's what the franchise's original name is in Germany, where it was developed. You may also be looking for the space invaders type shoot-em-up franchise Chicken Invaders? Hope any of this helps!
I remember playing Fate for the first time on my 2005 Dell prebuilt desktop. good times...
Yooo! I’ve been trying to find that Fate game forever ! I couldn’t remember shit about it other then it was a free default game but I had no luck finding it. Can we still play it?!?
@@6Iack Yeah we can still play it search It on internet !
@@6IackCurrently available on Steam. Along with its sequels. Most of their other classic games are unavailable, except for a few in their Website.
its on steam @@6Iack
All the Fate games are at least available on Steam
Fate 2, Blackhawk 2, Virtual Villagers and Plants vs Zombies all on WildTangent created memories I will never forget. (As well as running out of free coins, so I would not close the game until the timer expired xD)
Yup Sooo TruE!
Tornado Jockey anyone?
Virtual villagers I still play to this day and fate and sherwood dungeons
Really wish they milked Fate more and made a real multiplayer fate game. That was my dream as a kid was to play fate with my cousin, going deeper and deeper into the infinite dungeon, taking down bosses together and find rare unique items
From what I understand the final FATE game (The Cursed King) originally had multiplayer functionality, it just never got included in the Steam port
Same it was all our dream
The designer of Fate is also the designer of Torchlight. It's no wonder the game was a standout amongst the other WildTanget titles.
Hah! Yeah, those were the days! :D

I actually know someone who worked for WildTangent for a long time. If your interested I could get him to answer some questions probably.

Thank you! Excited to produce more in the future!
Fate was the first game I ever played on PC, and I've been playing it and the sequels ever since

I miss Wild Tangent ❤
Childhood memories
Not to mention that their earlier catalog of PC titles prior to the mid-2000s are now lost media.
I'm glad that the Fate series is available on Steam - I played the demo more times than I can count growing up - but it's a damn shame the rest of their games aren't on Steam. Hell, finding them on abandonware sites is a crapshoot.
I have not even thought about WildTangent in 1.2 decades...
