Hard to believe it has been almost 15 years since his passing...*sigh*...Rest in peace, Jerry. Thanx for the gift of bestowing your talent and good-nature upon us.
I still remember this song, Im 27 I remember sitting on the old mans lap on a hot summer day listening to this in between him and his buddies jam sessions. I can still smell the Budweiser and pot on him. Short shorts and tye dye shirts. Hair in a pony tail...oh the good ol days. lol
"I know the rent is in arrears The dog has not been fed in years It's even worse than it appears but it's all right." Jerry smiles throughout, but especially as he sings this verse. The man battled his demons. Thank God for Hunter giving Jerry these words to give him relief, even if for just a few moments.
Thanks for posting. I don't know much about him but he looks so warm, like a grandfather. This song made me realize that rock is not only for the strong.
FANFUCKINGTASTIC JERRY. HE LOOKS SO HAPPY!!!! THE WHOLE BAND IS JUST CLICKING!!!! THE ENTIRE SHOW IS CLASSIC TOP NOTCH. YOU ARE GRATEFULLY MISSED CAPTAIN TRIPS
Well, From 1987 to 1993, I was a Bluecoat at shoreline amp. For those who don't know what a Bluecoat is..I was security. We worked directly for Bill Graham. R.I.P Bill AND Jerry AND Brent! I was at this show working and enjoyed it big time. I always had a good time with all the deadheads!
thankssssss for the jam!!!!!!!!!!!!! denver 2009 . wanted to go to the forum the 9th then shoreline the 10th but 3 shows in 4 days little expensive but shoreline the 15th is looking good now
I love the crowd-shots, especially at approximately 4:40. It's downright festive to see the unanimous bobbin' and jammin' going on in the audience. Great video!
@Riv0606 its heartwarming to hear u say that, ive been to 10 Dead/Further shows with my dad. ive never seen the greatful dead because i was born in '97.
Darn It, I should have seen this earlier. Had a caravan going from Fresno. Could of got ya in. First show here huh. This was about my tenth. I worked next door to the shoreline, in the navy at Moffett Field. Those big ass hangars were home to me, now sitting in Clovis remanisin
Nice, I actually think the 11/3/91 is a little better. Not complaining though. I would love to see more from this show. I remember my cassette and bobbys exploding amp in the 2nd set before Scarlet fire.
They need to dig up ol' Jerry and go out on there post-mortum tour...use the same technology from this music video and I guarentee that people will show up.
They say you need to offer somthing or someone of equal or greater value to get him back. Well none of thoses wannabes can measure up to the awesomeness of Jerry.
you can tell jerry cleaned himself up a little bit aroudn this time he sounded great, look at him smiling. I think if Brent hadn't died Jerry might not have gotten back on heroin and the Grateful Dead might be touring today with this lineup instead of The Dead
@ThatKrookedVulture Jerry was often stoned, out of tune etc. but on his WORST day he was 10 times better than all the "artists" you mention put together..RIP Jerry.
@Supertramp1966 I agree with you to an extent. If anything I would say their intervention was too late. I believe jerry should have died around loved ones but lesh and weir were just looking out for a friend. If you read some of their interviews you would realize how much the heroin use took over his life. I am not against an individual choosing to use drugs and not hurting anyone but who knows what jerry could have done with a few more years in the tank.
The Dead started from the acid tests, there were any and all drugs at Dead shows and everyone was free to do whatever they wanted, that being said Jerry caused alot of young people to pick up heroin, not his fault, but he found a drug he loved, he couldnt stop, drugs were a major part of the scene in those days lsd was legal, but all who use hard drugs makes that choice for themselves I went to 35 + shows but I stayed away from the hard stuff, then a few years later the crack got me a bit!
I think his weight problems had a lot more to do with his death than heroin. He ballooned up to 300 pounds at one point, and every person I've ever heard of who did that died in their 50s. The body just can't take it. But the real problem was the incessant touring. He couldn't take it anymore, not physically or creatively, but the juggernaut was too strong for him. Everyone wanted the money, and put their desires first. That's the really sad thing.
I have to say, I think it's very sad how Jerry's life ended. He went into "Rebab." in 1995 and died among strangers. With all due respect to Lesh and Weir I think their "intervention" was totally fucked! Jerry should have been left to do what he pleased. He should have died natually, of a heart attack laying in bed beside his wife, not in a Rebab. center. Sad to think that he died at 4am, alone. Just my 2 cents, but as Frank Sinatra said so well, " You die your way, and I'll die mine."
Hard to believe it has been almost 15 years since his passing...*sigh*...Rest in peace, Jerry. Thanx for the gift of bestowing your talent and good-nature upon us.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile..... Watched this on pay per view and all I could do was think about how freaking happy Jerry looked.
I still remember this song, Im 27 I remember sitting on the old mans lap on a hot summer day listening to this in between him and his buddies jam sessions. I can still smell the Budweiser and pot on him. Short shorts and tye dye shirts. Hair in a pony tail...oh the good ol days. lol

Saw them twice at Soldier Field. No show beats a Dead show.
the awesome thing about jerry is that he was so humble, he wouldn't want to come back to trade places with them
Thank you for sharing.
Cupertino, Ca

I saw a homeless guy that looked just like Jerry taking a SHIZ in the woods off I-75 in FL
Jerry wouldn't diss any of them. Peace
Are you saying that Jerry only toured for the money? Dude, he toured for the love of music and the fans.
Don't forget to miss Brent Midland too he was so nasty on Keys.
