Great to see Jerry and Brent smiling at one another.
Rest in peace brothers.
Yes, I think both of them were used to each other after close to 10 years, plus I think they both were a bit lighter on their drug addictions. '89 was a really good year IMHO
Seen many Grateful Dead shows and met Jerry once in Oakland. Dennis McNally hooked me up for a magazine article I was writing. Had a huge mushroom cap that I gave Jerry and thanked him for his influence on my life. While that Oakland show might have been the crowning moment of an incredible experience as a fan, there was just nothing that compared to being at a shoreline show. Something about it that cascaded deep into ones soul. Jerry is sorely missed, but the music never stops...
Boy, do I love it when Jerry's On. He's definitely On here. I giggle when I see him having fun while he's playing so well. When Jerry was On, no one could touch him-- one of the best, if not the best, rock guitarists of all time. There was no one like him. And I sure can't forget that this entire band is made by fantastic musicians. There will never be another band like the Grateful Dead. Even my friends who CAN'T STAND the Dead admit that. They were absolute originals. Thank you Jerry!
Jerry and Brent!! I always love to watch their interactions.
...Smokinest middle solo ever....I remember listening to this live (simulcast) that day and thinking the boys are in peak form here! 21 years later, still one of the hottest shows in my collection!
Brent Mydland always reminds me of the character Oddball played by Donald Sutherland in the film Kelly's Heroes!
another peak year for the grateful dead. Jerry plays like a waterfall dancing down smooth stones and sparkling in the sunshine :)
"They're not the best at what they do, they're the only one's who do what they do", Bill Graham
I miss Jerry sometimes so badly that it just aches deep inside, thank you for posting and sharing this.
I was there on the grass man. So much love going on!! Mt.View,Ca. Great times. Great people. GREATFUL DEAD 😍☝️
My favorite place to see any show. Bless Bill Graham.rip.

i am grateful I got to live this as a part of my life....it gives me chills....still
Definitely remember attending this show. Jerry was grinning ear to ear the whole second set...
I was at this show!!! Such a great time!!! Shoreline was so much fun, especially on the lawn!! Thank you for such an awesome video and sound!
I am smiling now. Great tune
Love the connection between brent and jerry....just awesome
@HippieBuddah ,Hey now! I remember when they had that posted on the Warfield theater when I lived out there! Being a kid from the east coast it was pure heaven to see those gigs there! I miss those times so bad that I could cry, and indeed I have sometimes when I'm really getting into their recordings! Peace!
LOL at the Jerry flub:
"From the other direction,
I was calling your eye"
What a great end to 3 shows over 4 days. Was worth travelling 2000 miles to see them...
Don't know how you guys ever got your hands on this stuff ---but because of good people like you who post we will always have Jerry with us
I swear to God, this band is the best part of my life. Brent singing Donna's part......YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
killer clip man. Its the best when Jerry smiles, nothin better
When Jerry smiles the sun shines again
Great video, thanks for posting this. Jerry looks like he's having so much fun
SO happy to have been there
My B-Day. Great show!!!! Glad I was there...
What a great show, 2400km by bus to be there. Great times...
JG your memory will not fade away - we knew without asking you were into the blues. Play on brother.
I have shared this before - it is imminently worth sharing again!!
i agree with andy...I was at this show and had a great time!
awesome energetic jerry, 89 and 90 were good years for him
sigh.. I was there.. great times.. maybe the greatest times..
oh man west coast 89 tour surprised i made it through!!
Brent & jerry RIP
Oh Hell, what could someone dislike about this?
At 2:47 Brent Midland is giving Jerry a "I told ya I could sing that high" moment
Got to see them at buckeye 88 , Riverfront coliseum 89 , deer creek 89 and cardinal stadium 90 for my 1st 4 shows. I took Brent for granted.
Man didn't we all. Brent was so unreal!!!
HEART-OF-GOLD-BAND
wasn´t this one of the rare dead mtv performances???
once in a while... i could cry!!
Phil is just owning this Scarlet... particularly the transition... he is just jamming... some of the best jams are when Phil leads and everyone else follows... Jerry used to say that he can have an off night and they can still sound good... but Phil has to be on for them to sound good... this is the proof.
This was one of the last great shows in grateful dead land i am not sure what was up on this night but the band was in fine spirits.Did you notice how jerry changed up the line in scarlet? As it turned out anytime that clarence sat in the music got looser whether it was garcia"s band or the dead. I thought it would have been cool to have a horn section in the band from the beginning, well a little to late for that now.
The view from behind Jerry at 4:53 PRICELESS.......happiness
This show was absolutely one of the last of the ''great nights''.those cat's dug deep and man did it pay off.clarence clemons played with them this night,i am pretty sure, and does it bring back some nice memories.because shortly after this was the 90's and we all know the music went down hill real, real, real fast.brent checked out on us and that was the day the music in deadville died.sorry but it is true.
Summer solstice! I think my friend Danny Allison (from Ohio) saw this show. Love the mid and late 80s shows and pretty much most dead era’s. Where are u Danny ?
"there ain't nothing wrong with the way she moves...with scarlet begonias and a touch of the blues"
the peaceful warrior walks with rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes.
"From the other direction, I was calling your eye" Sing it Jerry!
at 2:43 there is an exchange of glances between brent and jerry after brent does the falsetto part. something like brent saying 'ha i *told* you i could do it" !! jerry seems to smile acknowledgement. maybe before the show jerry was wondering whether brent could sing that high?!!
Me too... I guess we were late to the party, but we had fun, eh?
I know someone else already aluded to this earlier, but I laugh every time I watch this and see Brent give Jerry that look of "how'd you like that?" at around 2:43.
a touch of the blues...
its the triangle approach or was it with a liquid bumper car effect with us all building up to a note struck by all at the same time that becomes a rock thrown into water with its rings thats color thats dragon chaseing his tail seeing wow one gets things done than my mind was pulled east the first place i felt family the first place i died and was reborn lifeaum
Awesome
I remember watching this @Derek's mom's house with beer bongs
AWSOME
Mickey laying some serious rolls down.
@qquark99 power.. when the grateful dead were on fire it was like they were the engine driving some kinda stadium/arena spaceship.
Jerry declined horribly between 89 and 95. It's amazing. He has so much energy left here. But by 95 he was an empty shell. He kept asking for a hiatus, but the rest of the band wouldn't do it. I can't believe they would perform with him in 95. He was so not capable at that point. Some rest woulda done him good. His best years came after hiatuses.
so pretty much 3 years or so after they started up then....
@CaptainFantastik1 You are so right my friend............
Once in a while you get shown the light
In the strangest of places if you look at it right.
i have a dumb question: why are two drummers needed? yes, i know its a dumb question but although I love the music I have very poor musicality so i am trying to learn. thanks!
he loooks down in beginin but i love papa bear
remember how it felt to melt?
he looks down in beginin but love papa bear
Whaadya know. I found it. Except, we didn't get to hear Bobby's exploding amp.
RIP Clarence.....
Who wears short shorts? Bobby wears short shorts ;)
@coyote023
WORD'S WELL SPOKEN
he looks down at beginin
he did look down in beginin watch papa bears eyes
Brent vs. Donna on the harmony vocals - no comparison. Donna comes in a poor third.
Brent was far superior in every way.
Mydland was awesome and so great to hear Begonias without Donna butchering it with her insane screaming.
who is the bearded keyboard player?
I wish Brent and Jerry could be more connected -
oh jerry... all those drugs really did a number on you..
OMG 2:41 look at his face
Brent Mydland
I went to over 500 Dead shows and felt like I wanted my money back every time they had a horn sit in, I absolutely hate the hors, doesn't matter who is playing it. Some swinging horns in the rhythm section is one thing but one lone horn making a bunch of noise ruins it for me every time
You have no idea how much we loved one another unconditionally. I want to come to Oregon for Thanksgiving, I am dying here and they want to throw me out of myown house. I mean this. This is not a joke. Nancy is all done. Laurence is n Paris, Your mother is dead, please communicate to me about the dog video I sent you. I am your lifeline and you are mine. Dad////
Soon as jerry put down the SG I lost interest
Jerry's on fire....Phil's bass sucks.....I can't stand those types of basses..he's still a bad ass..but, damn, that bass sucks.
