BYD does have the lowest tariff but thats additive to the current 10% EU duty on Chinese imports. Note that PHEV are not covered in those tariffs. The new BYD Generation 5 PHEV will be very attractive in the EU with 1300 mile range, 80mpg and a very low aquisition cost.
Thanks Sam. yes, if this was made available here in Australia, I would likely buy it to accompany our current 2 year old Atto 3. I'm pretty sure my next vehicle will be a BYD rather than a Tesla for instance. I'm very impressed with the Atto 3 and likely will be with the new Seal 06 GT.
As a current STI hatchback owner, I have been looking to go to an EV for sometime, but haven't found anything I like enough. I've been seriously thinking about the Seal Performance, but it is too long for my liking. I'm also not particularly a fan of the boot either given how convenient the hatchback is when you need to carry big items. The Seal 06 GT could be the car for me. However, it seems crazy not to put the same motors as the Seal Performance in it. They could make a seriously good EV hot hatch. Range isn't a big concern for me and I'd happily pay a premium and go for 390 kW over 315. The MG4 Xpower just looks terrible. However, it is only 4.3m long weighs 1800 kg and has 320 kW. The Seal 06 GT is bigger so is likely going to be heavier and thus slower with its 315 kW.
The picture of the car in this video does not have the same impact as the Ocean M at the Shanghai motor show. Hope the production version more resembles the latter.
Looks like a BYD version of slightly bigger MG4 to me. They probably grouped all the sedan/hatch etc into Seal naming as it's not a SUV BYD's new and updated EVs should be getting the updated 3.0Evo platform going forward, Seal update is also coming soon in China The claimed charging speed and energy efficiency improvements sounds quite practical. The former can be seen in test drive videos of Sealion 07 showing it charging at claimed speeds, for the latter there's not enough real world driving videos of Sealion 07 to know how well it does in hot/cold weather
IT'S NOT 18%, it's added to the current 10%, which makes it more than the original Trump tax in the US. China will need to expand right hand drive markets and Mexico Canada, South America and Africa, if they have any hope of maintaining production levels.
BYD may need better naming techniques, so many similar names Anyway no money except may be better dolphin extra Km new LMFP battery that will be excellent 😅
I would advise my EU friends to buy an MG4 before the additional tariffs come in. Living in England I hope the incoming Labour government doesn’t mirror those additional tariffs - but I honestly think they will. If I am right - I would advise my fellow Brits to follow the same advice….ie buy an MG4 asap
Is the paint on the BYD going to hold up in Australian conditions in the long run. The jury is out on the longevity of their cars as it is with the likes of MG and other Chinese Evs
It’s not racism mate, it’s protecting your own manufacturers and jobs. Australia does not have what to protect in this sector, in fact in any sector, since it relies on crude material exports. Hence no tarrifs…
Always lots of statements on this channel about faster charging times and more range. Some advice, if you live in a hot climate you will need to know how much having the aircon running continuously affects the range of your BEV. I live in the tropics and my car is 18 years old and the aircon has never been turned off. Running an EV with the aircon off in the topics is just too hot, especially if you have kids in the back, plus the wind noise and disruption to the aerodynamics. Get real world data if you’re buying a BEV, not sales & marketing hype.
The only real world data is obtained through reviews. The specs for EV's, Hybrids and ICE vehicles are not worth the paper they are written on. WLTP range is a farce as it is done on 45kmh speed. So reviews that run the car from 100% battery charge and petrol full to empty are the only way real world comes into play. The rest is dross.
Aren't these the type of BYD on the car carrier which caught fire in China ; you can see the video on TH-cam here- That would make for a very very hot hatch - like 5000 f ; nearly as hot as the surface of the sun when they burn up.

Chinese will offer plethora of plug in hybrids to offset pure impact in Europe
BYD might end up being the dominant car manufacturer in the upcoming decade. Other manufacturers should be worried!

Going straight for the MG4 X-power
Cyberopolis blend of cutting-edge technology, strategic partnerships, and a vibrant community is a formula for success. Excited for the future.
The tariff rates you mentioned for Europe are on top of the existing 10%, so 28% for Tesla and BYD and the rest at 48%.

Higher energy density does not always mean longer range. It could just be a smaller battery for the same range.
